He knew I really just needed the most basic laptop option because it's just for personal use and maybe photo editing/email. Which is the conclusion I came to when I tried every solution under the sun to try to troubleshoot/fix it before visiting the Apple Genius bar (and after doing an online chat too) Bless the staff member who sat there with us for an hour as my parents debated which model to upgrade too...he also explained all the payment plans thoroughly to us and helped us sign up as well. I want to start by saying that the Genius bar at this location is great. They are friendly, helpful, and accommodating if you are just walking in off the street with no appointment. The sales department is an entirely different story, Anyone walking in here looking for help on making an apple purchase should be weary of who they are getting help from. I went in to buy a new iphone, a pretty big purchase for me that I researched before walking into the store with some specific questions that I expected an apple employee would be able to answer. This expectation was WAY too high. The people working on the floor who I interacted with were only able to answer basic questions that you could get from simply reading the display with the phone description. One guy said while rolling his eyes at me "i mean its not like we know about all the products here" I might expect this in a place like Best Buy, but apple is supposed to be a high end company and with customers spending $700+ on expensive high tech equipment I expected that they would be more familiar with ALL products (or at the very least every iphone available). Beyond that, the person who helped me was unprofessional and kept talking about how it was supposed to be his lunch break the entire time I'm trying to buy a phone from him. He was rushing through the process of putting the glass screen on my device and setting it up so he could leave, even though i suggested he find someone else to help so he could leave multiple times. There were also inappropriate conversations happening between employees in front of me that I don't think I should have been able to hear as a customer, and made me distrust apple and their treatment of employees. Every person working in sales at apple should be fully familiar with all the products - this is not their responsibility - THIS IS APPLES RESPONSIBILITY. This company has enough money and products to give their employees every device on the market so they are familiar with how they work in the real world and not just the basic descriptions that a layman could easily find on their own. I ended up rushing through my purchase because I was so fed up by the end and I went home with a device that I still have questions about and that I'm unsure if I want. APPLE needs to do better - take care of your employees and take the time to educate them on ALL apple products in the store - And have enough staff so that if someone needs to take a lunch break someone else can jump in and cover the customer they are helping. Took my iPhone 6S for battery replacement with an afternoon appointment. Easy check-in: Went upstairs to the Genius Bar. There were about 10 people in front of me but the line moved fast. Was told to have a seat at one of the tables at the end. Waited for about 10 mins and a tech guy came to my rescue. I was expecting to just get the battery replaced at no cost since my battery was dying fast the last few months. Was told to come back in one hour and forty-five mins. No big deal since there were many shops in the neighborhood and I ended up doing some reading at the Barnes & Noble in Union Square. Outcome: To my surprise, I ended up getting a new IPhone instead since the battery replacement attempt failed (thought I might be getting an iPhone X!) Lol! Was happy to just get the same model - 6S. The tech did ask if I had saved everything and knew my Apple ID and password as I might get a new phone if the battery couldn't be replaced. And boy I was glad I did the day before. The most terrible part is that I knew the exact parts I wanted and I even checked the Apple Store app to make sure the products were in stock. DO NOT SHOP AT THIS STORE - The will unload OLD inventory on you as the newest model! I never write review but you need to be warned when coming to this store. I purchased an iMac, kind of a big purchase, and the sales person deceptively sold me a 2017 model as a 2019 model. It was something I did not notice for the longest time because both devices look identical from the outside but are MUCH different when it comes to speed, processing, etc. The sales person flat out lied to me when I made my purchase. I told them I needed the newest model and they told me that is what I was purchasing. I have now spent HOUR and weeks on the phone with Apple for both tech issues that would have not happened on the model I intended to purchase and trying to get the actual device I was supposed to have purchased. On August 10, 2023, I purchased an iPhone 13 at the Apple SoHo store in Manhattan. I traded in my old iPhone SE3 as part of the exchange. The store attendant, Rachel, assisted me throughout the process. During the purchase, I repeatedly requested Rachel to transfer all the data from my old device to the new phone. I specifically mentioned that I had not backed up the data on my old phone. Rachel agreed to this and instructed me to complete the new phone purchase process before initiating the data transfer. After going through all the required steps, Rachel informed me that the data transfer would take about an hour. I agreed since I had the time. However, during the data transfer process, Rachel made a significant mistake. Without my consent, she inexplicably pressed the button to erase my phone, resulting in the loss of all my data. Upon realizing that my phone had been wiped, I immediately asked her why she had erased my phone when the data transfer hadn't taken place yet. She began to panic and sought help from other store employees, suggesting that I could restore the data using a computer at home. Yet, I had already informed her that I had no backups. At this point, upon learning from other employees that erased data could not be recovered, Rachel did something extremely infuriating - she fabricated a massive lie. She claimed she needed to check with technical staff in the back of the store and then hastily left. After waiting for around half an hour without her returning, we realized that she had left. We promptly informed other store employees about the situation. The store manager was called in, and after understanding the situation, he mentioned he would look into Rachel's whereabouts and left. After waiting for quite a while, the manager returned and told us he couldn't find Rachel, and her phone was also unreachable. The manager then brought in the employee who had interacted with Rachel earlier for us to explain the situation to them. They confirmed our account to be accurate. Rachel indeed erased a customer's phone without consent and irresponsibly fled after realizing her mistake. After negotiating with the manager, we reluctantly agreed to a compensation package consisting of AirPods and a phone case. Given that we were overseas customers and didn't have the luxury of time to deal with this matter extensively, and also considering our imminent return to our home country in three days, we reluctantly accepted the compensation offered by the manager. We believe Rachel might have been aware of our status as overseas buyers, which could have influenced her careless and evasive handling of the situation. All the vital information, particularly the photos of my daughter from birth to her current age of two, were lost due to this incident. We received no apology from Rachel and wasted nearly three hours of our time, only to receive a compensation of AirPods and a phone case, items often given away during promotions. I am truly disappointed with this entire experience. After contacting Apple Soho and further discussing the situation, their decision not to compensate for my losses has left me extremely shocked. read more

This was my go to store because of convince, but I just had a horrible experience where I felt like the sales person just wanted to make a sale but didn't take any additional steps to make sure my information/back up was correct. I am not tech savvy and I reiterated that throughout our conversation while I was trading in my old device for the iPhone 14. The sales rep didn't bother to check to make sure it was ok or anything and simply told me she couldn't help me with set up bc they were about to close the store. Didn't advise me to keep my device and make sure everything was properly backed up at home or come back just to be safe. Nothing. I lost all of my photos with the first year of my sons life and wedding photos from my deceased friends wedding. Her demeanor throughout the sale was off and I regret my purchase so much. Very serious problems: 1) Apple Soho suddenly shut down the line of 4 computers where I was standing and booking a Uber ride. 2) In Apple store on Bolster Street in Boston, some Apple staffs came to tell me that they do shut down computers from back office for demo computers. He also came to look into the contents I was writing on social media websites on their computers. I told him not to look. Then he said that because they are demo computers, Apple Store back office would look at them. 3) I just felt strange why Apple Store look at the privacy of their customers without telling us in advance? And why did Apple Store back office suddenly shut down only the 4 computers around me at 6pm, 2 hours before their close without any notification from Apple Store staffs? 4) When I called from hotel rooms in the center of city Manhattan to Apple Store Grand Central, I already called the direct line of Apple Store Grand Central, but still I was transferred to someone in Houston who asked me many detailed information about my lost item and my then location and city. But ONLY after he asked me these information, then he told me that he was actually in Houston. Then I was just wondering why he needed to ask me so much information, if he is not working at Apple Grand Central. I told him that I wanted to talk to Apple Store Grand Central's Genius Bar in the very beginning. And he even said that he is at Genius Bar. I just could not imagine why someone from Houston needed to get so much information from me, while he knew that I wanted to talk to Apple Store Grand Central's Genius Bar. Had some dude name Daquan start the repair, and then just straight up left in the middle of it to help someone else out. After he finished helping them out, he just left me for 45 minutes before an older dude asked what was up (after I complained to 2 other people who said they would "try to get a hold of him"). Today, I went to the Apple store at Soho, NYC to have my battery replaced and never would I have thought to received the most unprofessional treatment that I did. I had my iPhone 7 Plus jet black battery replaced and upon receiving it back at around 7pm it was returned to me with multiple and obvious scratches and tool like indents on the back of the phone and back of the bezel. I always keep my phone in a case and never had these damages before turning in the phone to Apple for a battery replacement. (the phone was checked and inspected by an Apple employee before submitted for a battery replacement at Apple) The whole back side was scratched and all four corners of the bezel was clearly damaged! It was "NOT" return to me in the same condition I submitted in. I raised my concerns after receiving the phone back and I was told to wait for a Tech to explain what happen. The Tech offered me a replacement that was a "like new" phone and raised the issue that I had about 2hrs to decide on whether I would accept the replacement per their managers words. Also, he suggested that maybe my case has caused the "tool like damage" around the bezel. It is clearly obvious a case cannot do damage that has clear indentations like that. I had an anxiety attack because I felt like I was pressure by the manager and the Tech to accept the offer in a LIMITED EXPIRATION TIME. I told them that I need time to think about it and when I wanted to asked more about what happened after I calmed down a little from my anxiety, the Tech person I spoke to has left for the day. I then ask another person at the Genius bar and he said he knew of the issue and immediate afterwards he interrupted me and ask 'so what is your choice" I kept on saying that I rather not have a like "new phone" and he kept interrupting me and saying its new, while I told him the Tech guy earlier said it was "like new". I repeatedly told him that it is not new and then he rudely wanted to brush me off and only then pressure me further by saying "so what is your choice" I never felt so pressure in a place that was meant to provide help. From all the time I have visited Apple whether for a purchase or technical help they have been professional and polite but NOT this time. I felt like no one cared about my situation and what this store did to my phone that I spent my hard worked money on to purchase it brand new. I only wanted a battery replacement but left with damaged marks on my iPhone. And only to be treated as if I never mattered and the resolution had a deadline. read more

What makes it so insidiously egregious is that it has this sheen of professionalism and gloss that to the inexperienced can hide the its complete dysfunction. Even on quiet days the wait is 3 hours for a walk in. When you arrive on time to appointments at the Genius Bar they make you wait 30+ minutes (except for cord replacements); if you arrive more than 15 late they just throw away your appointment; offering no reasonable accommodation (oh if you want to hang out around soho for three hours well text you and like a dog you have 15 minutes to show up from the moment we text you READY SET GO; one minute late and oh whoops it's another 3 hours). I work in customer service and this is by far the most unethical customer service experience I've ever had. Do not go to this Apple Store for Genius Bar repairs if you value your emotional and mental sanity. I came in today with my girlfriend at 9:05am to get my IPhone 7+ screen repaired. The customer service agent, a fashionable lady with cool rings and a buzz cut, walked me through the process. She said that the screen replacement would be $169 and $29 for a battery replacement which I agreed to. She had me sign something but rushed me through it saying that what I was signing was only an understanding that Apple was not responsible for data loss. She also said that in the case the phone cannot be repaired, they would replace the phone. What the customer service agent conveniently forgot to mention was that replacing the phone was a $350 charge. She also didn't mention that when the screen is removed from the phone for replacement, that the screen cracks would get worse. So I go to pick up my phone 2 hours later and am presented with a phone in worse condition than when I handed it to the customer service agent. Additionally that added a heavily scratched screen protector to the phone and the option to pay $350 or keep a now more broken phone. The agent removed the screen protector against the advice of her manager, removing more glass and further damaging the device. Apparently a water resistant phone had "water damage" meaning they couldn't fix the screen. I spoke with "Archie", the Genius Bar manager who was absolutely no help, other than offering his condolences for the misunderstanding. Archie also refused to give me the name of the customer service agent who worked with me that morning when I stated I wanted to file a complaint. I ultimately ended up paying the $350 plus tax because I needed my phone for an upcoming work conference. I have every intention of running this up the ladder and filing a report with Apple against this store. This level of customer service is grossly unethical and the actions made by both the manager and customer service agent should never be allowed in a company with the size and notoriety of Apple. read more

So all in all, this is a typical apple store from the inside. They don't have iPhone10 nor a Mac Robot from Mars. However what distinguishes this location is the the location, by tribeca in lower Manhatten. Very vibrant area. Also the store lives inside a historic post office building, which add to the personality of the store. I didn't witness it, but I understand iTunes sponsors artists to come speak and perform inside the store. Kindda cool touch. Everything else.... well, typical apple store. read more
