Update from 10/19/18 - Went back to try the soups as the owner suggested and my thoughts on the butternut squash soup was just eh. It's unlike any butternut squash soup I've had before and I will say the texture is a bit off for me. There are strands of something crunchy in there...maybe apple(?)...but they are flavourless and make the mouthfeel of the soup very strangely chunky. Almost like having coconut shavings in the soup. The soup itself is flavorful but too heavy-handed with the cumin or curry for my tastes. I noticed that their soup options are not updated on their menu for daily/seasonal changes but the cashier was very kind in going over the options with me! They did not have the corn chowder the day I went but I wish they had some more staple soup options like chicken noodle or garden vegetable with these cold days coming up! Overall, this does not change my initial liking of the vast variety of sandwich options they have to offer and I will continue to get the lunch box special here. read more

Love this place! I can't go to Herndon without thinking of stopping in and I certainly can't drive down Herndon Parkway without making that left turn onto Exchange pl. Everything they have is FRESH. They bake their own bread, create their own dressings, pasta salads, etc, etc - the list goes on. Customer service is A1 and you can usually find the owner in the mix with the rest of the team. Great atmosphere, and you can tell how passionate people are to be a part of the Apple Spice Family (as they like to call it). It's refreshing to walk in and see people that genuinely enjoy their work and that are appreciated for it! Collectively, the team is always coming up with new ideas, dishes and themes, and it makes it fun to go in there and try new things. I've ordered office lunch for our team of 6+ about a handful of times now & it's been a big hit every time. Super easy online ordering with the option for delivery or pick-up & complete customization of each meal & add-ons. All of our orders have been delivered promptly on time by a courteous, smiling driver. Initially with my very first order I also received a follow-up phone call regarding my feedback on the food & service, which shows a high importance on customer satisfaction. Menu showcases a vast array of sandwiches with premium in-house roasted meats on daily baked from scratch breads, fresh ingredient salads & soups. Sandwiches are served boxed style & the ability to mix n' match combinations is almost endless. Deluxe sandwich boxes include choice of side, pickle, cookie & York peppermint patty. As if that's not enough, the Executive boxes include the above + chips, veggie bag & cheesecake treat. Salads are huge, fresh & served with a house roll w/Honey Cinnamon Butter, which is so addictingly good. The house made signature sauces, served on the side, for the sandwiches are quite good as well. One's thing for sure, you won't be hungry when your done with any of these options! Though there's so much to enjoy, I personally haven't had the freshest of bread options. I first thought perhaps it was just the type of bread, as I had the 13 Grain (on the Office Favorite) which just so easily crumbled that I thought perhaps they missed an ingredient. Then I tried the monthly special, Turkey Roma on a soft roll & it missed the mark as well. Same with the rolls that come with the salads, but that Honey Cinnamon Butter surely makes up for it! I used to enjoy ordering a tuna sandwich lunch box from apple Spice Junction on a weekly basis, until my last order arrived and I went to pick up my sandwich and the bottom piece of bread was soaking wet. I was really disgusted, and I threw the sandwich away. It was delivered via foodsy, but I take it that the sandwich was made too far in advance. I'm done with this place. Yes one mess up and I'm done because food handling is important and food contamination can kill you, so restaurants need to train their employees on the importance of handling food with care. read more

First time ordering catering from ASJ and have to say I was very impressed. We placed the order about 24h ahead of time not knowing of the time we would like the food to be delivered would work. Unfortunately, it didn't but we received both an email and phone call confirming that the 15 minute change was OK. The ordering process itself was very easy being able to select whatever you would like. The only complaint/suggestion I would have is that there is no easy way to say I would like this cheese instead of this cheese. While it was written in the instructions section, the end sandwich had two different types of cheese instead of just the one, not a big deal. The order ended up coming 15 mins early which aligned with our original request. Can't really complain about that, especially when you have hungry coworkers already waiting. Everyone commented on the awesome boxes everything came in and how they would make good building blocks for kids....no we did not build a fort afterwards. Everyone was also pleasantly surprised that we received a variety of Utz chips flavors and could trade with a willing coworker for a different one. We also liked the added touch of the Peppermint Patty and actual pickle sized ziplocs to contain the pickle juice. All the sauces were delicious, most were reminded of Chick Fil A sauce with the signature sauce (did they crack the recipe code???) and no one went away hungry. Everyone also appreciated it was REAL meat and not just some deli meat. Majority of the end comments were - that was a really good lunch. We will likely be doing business in the future and might even try out some of the other hot entrees that are offered. read more

Had a day packed with meetings so decided to order lunch from Foodsby. This is my $11 Cobb Salad ($13.77 after tax and fee). It's 1/2 a salad at best. Mostly romaine lettuce (cut into 3" strips), 2 chicken strips chopped, a slice of avocado, 1/3 of a slice of chopped bacon, tsp shredded cheese, one sliced egg. Didn't know it came with a roll and didn't want one but will eat it out of hunger :( Will not order again. For the money I could have ordered a fresher and more substantial salad from nearly anywhere else. Bummed. read more

Inside the amazing lunchboxes the staff stuffed so many Goodies from fruit to cheesecake with blueberries to carrot and ranch snack pack. Cannot say enough about this particular location of Apple Spice. Wish I had pictures to share but today's event was too busy for that. Will be sharing more of this towards the end. We regularly enjoy the executive box lunch delivery from them (their premium salads are impressive just as much). Their delivery is punctual, customer service is thorough and attentive, and they always go the extra distance beyond what we experience with other service providers. Today we had an extra special event of hosting the executive leadership team at our regional office and we called on Apple Spice to do our catering. The delivery and setup by Moises was white glove. Our people also raved about the quality of the food and couldn't believe that it was a catering delivery service. It was as close to home cooked gourmet as you can imagine for 25+ people. Folks that don't normally enjoy dessert even couldn't help but try the desserts that included things like French macarons, perfectly portioned cake slices, and cookies. Apple Spice Junction is pretty money, when it comes to catering (I've only had ASJ when my company's paid for it for in-office catering). They come in to set things up for you (so you don't have to) and everything comes in a neat box (literally). The food on the other hand, could use some work. I've had different sandwiches from there (to name a few: the roast beef and the turkey) and many were memorable for the wrong reasons. The roast beef sandwich's description boasted roast beef that is "piled high", which was not the case. The turkey sandwich was a similar let-down: it was literally a piece of sliced turkey with a limp piece of lettuce. One of the most disappointing parts of the sandwich was the most important part: the bread. In all instances, the bread has been overly soft, soggy and unsubstantial. Perhaps ASJ should re-think their bread choices if sandwiches continue to be a big part of their menu offerings. Another odd thing about ASJ is how sides are portioned. I've had pasta salad and fruit which were portioned in little plastic cups. That was good for those who are looking to control their portions. However, with every sandwich order comes a pickle... IN A BAG. Literally, a labeled bag that says pickle. Just seemed odd. Not to mention the pickle juice gets all over the place... Other than that, the food is generally palatable and affordable. Would I go out to ASJ if my office wasn't paying for it? Probably not. But if their bread changed to something heartier and the general sandwich selection were a bit more imaginative, possibly. read more

Overview: Offers box lunch delivery and catering This is one of my favorite places to order lunch for the office (especially when you tire of the let's-order-pizza mentality that seems to be a default sometimes). They offer a variety of sandwiches and salads that, in my experience, have all been fresh and delicious. Ordering online is easy and I like that there is pretty much something for everyone. Personally, I love the mandarin chicken salad. The sweet spread that comes with the accompanying roll is amazing. The deluxe sandwich box lunches come with a cookie, pickle, and either fruit, potato chips, or carrot chips (and a York peppermint patty), which is very satisfying. I realize that ASJ is probably more known for their catering options, I decided to stop in for a soup and salad. I didn't even know this place was in the area. I went for the 1/2 soup/salad -- the tortilla soup was very tasty and came with a nice bag of corn chips and sour cream. The salad was very fresh and green and was accompanied by two fresh slices of bread. The whole meal came to $9 without a drink. It was pretty good and I would consider coming back here again...though i would likely get a different salad on its own, it was a bit plain. read more

I get catering from Apple Spice pretty often, and it has always been reliably good. The sandwiches are full of flavor and the fresh baked bread is moist and delicious. Their pasta salad is light and perfectly salted, and their salads and homemade salad dressings are really satisfying. I am a big big fan of the taco salad bar. The shredded chicken is really tender, the guacamole and nacho cheese are aphrodisiacs, and the Spanish rice is super yum. Their lasagna was very filling, but the best part of that meal was the herb butter spread on fresh baked bread. To die for if you're a carb hound like me!! Desserts are soft and fresh, especially the rice krispy treats and brownies. The reason why I took away one star is because the drinks can really add up, especially when I am cater for 10 or more. It would be much more convenient if they offered gallons or 2 liters. That's my only beef, but really, this place is da bomb. read more

I have found Apple Spice Junction excellent for individual lunches. They are slightly more expensive than your average deli but they give good portion sizes. Catering however ... don't believe their catering menu pricing. They catered an event for 30 people which included 1 meat, 2 sides and a cookie / brownie dessert. The menu shows that 2 sides (potatoes and roasted vegetables are included with each meat) - however they billed separately for each. The cost exceeded $900 for the group - that's over $30 / person! We could have taken the team to Morton's steak house for a similar cost. read more

Headed a little downhill. My office used to order from this location or the now-closed one in Reston on a pretty regular basis, but we stopped because delivery was a challenge at times. (If you want delivery around noon, make sure to have your order in no later than 10:30 AM.) We recently ordered lunch from them for the first time in several months and were kind of disappointed overall: - The slices of avocado in my Turkey Avocado sandwich was not ripe enough; mostly yellow. ASJ used to use mashed avocado in the perfect shade of green (like guacamole-green). - There was significantly less turkey in my sandwich. Like, half what I remember, maybe less! Sadface. :( - The pickles are much smaller and... sad looking than they used to be. - Cookies are much smaller and not as tasty as they used to be. - Mints in the box lunches have been replaced with York Peppermint Patties, which is a small perk I guess, but a cookie and York is a little much. I'd rather have a better sandwich. - Prices have gone up since we last ordered from Apple Spice, and I'm not sure the sandwiches are worth what you're paying now. If you've never tried this place before, feel free to give it a shot, just don't have high hopes of finding your favorite sandwich and salad place. My experience with Apple Spice Junction: I plan events/meetings for executives at my organization and I had a catering "emergency" in which I realized 2 hours prior to a meeting that I did not place an order with our regular catering company. In a panic I called multiple catering companies that were unable to cater that large of a meeting (40p) on such short notice (understandably so). Thank goodness I called Apple Spice Junction! They were able to whip together a delicious meal and delivered in time for my meeting - total life saver! Their food was delicious and the executives asked that we order from Apple Spice in the future. It's so close by to my office that it's no surprise that when I'm starved I go there. My go to is the chicken cashew that they put on wheat bread for me (it's usually on sour dough). What I love about this sandwich is that they have yummy chicken salad that they top with PLENTY of cashews so that they stay crunchy. The southwest soup is also good, and I do love the cookies. I'm a rep that does a lot of lunch and learns and ASJ is my go to in the area for the past 5 years. Everything that's included in their boxed lunches are delicious. You can taste the freshness. The bread that they bake is so good and when you add their honey butter, it's heaven. To prove that they are still as good as when I first started, I got compliments from everyone at the lunch I did today. One person loved her chipotle chicken sandwich, my fav, another loved the honey butter, and one raved about her soup and dessert cup. I hope not too many other reps read this because I like being the only one that brings ASJ but that's just me being selfish. I've had mixed experiences with Apple Spice in the past but it seems like the company is taking a step way up in a positive direction. I had them do the catering for breakfast and lunch at my company for a Sales Event and was very pleasantly surprised. They were early and never late. I've actually never been to the physical location but the client I work with in the area usually caters lunch from here. I've had salads and sandwiches here and I think they do a decent job with everything. I dig the other options for sides (carrots and ranch, genius!) and that they make all of their own dressing for the salads. Since this place is right across the street from the office, I end up here once every week or two. It's basically a lunch time catering business that also has a dine in area. Their menu consists mainly of sandwiches, soups, and salads. While nothing on the menu is anything I'd consider to be amazing, everything is for the most part pretty solid. The main reason I keep coming back is the freshness and quality of the ingredients. Standouts on the menu are the Office Favorite, Turkey Avocado, Chicken Tortilla soup, and my favorite, the Chicken Noodle soup (the noodles are so thick it's unreal!). Avoid the Cashew Chicken sandwich as it is dry, flavorless, and lacking all of the usual chicken salad goodness. I personally avoid the cookies since they taste like they came from a can. read more

Let me first start off by saying Apple Spice Junction has AMAZING food. Their customer service is phenomenal! From the owner to the managers to the cashiers, they are all truly amazing. Their customer service is out of this world. I ordered a breakfast spread from Apple Spice Junction for my office, about 15 people. When the order arrived I noticed the food didn't look like it was enough to feed 15 people, the driver advised it was for 15 so I didn't think too much into it because we had gotten more than breakfast, we ordered pastries and all sorts of things. A little later into the day, the catering manager stopped by explaining that there was indeed only enough food packed for 10 people and she expressed her apologies. She bought a dessert plater and a salad for my office for lunch. We truly apricate customer service like this because she did not have to come back and explain what happen. However, she did and they took full responsibility. It was no inconvenience to my office because everyone loved everything. We will defiantly be ordering again. read more

REDEEMED THOROUGHLY! I originally ordered the "Creamy Crab Chowder", first off Do NOT order this unless you like to eat shells! Seriously - every bite I had, which was very few, had some form of crab shell in it. It wasn't creamy and it was ridiculously spicy! Onto the redemption.... I called after the crab soup disaster and the Deli Manager Daniel bent over backwards to make it right! He asked if I'd like to order something else free of charge, so I asked for the Tuna Sandwich box lunch. He sent it to me the next day, free of charge, the potato salad is yummy, it comes with a pickle, cookie and peppermint patty chocolate but the SANDWICH - OMG SOOOOOOOOOO YUMMY! I asked for Provolone cheese instead of swiss but WOW! The bread is as soft and fresh as you can imagine, the tuna is done just right....I don't even want to eat to fast because I'll be sad when I'm done LOL! I love their Chicken Curry and Southwestern salads. The vegetables in the salads are fresh and crisp plus they give you a tremendous amount. I'm not looking to snack in the afternoon after eating there as the salads are much larger than what you would get at a Panera and they are priced about the same. My wife had the chicken curry sandwich which she liked a lot, though it included mandarin oranges which are a surprise if you don't realize they are included in the sandwich. The cookies hit the spot too for dessert. Being mostly a catering restaurant we arrived around 1 o'clock and the place was very quiet and the dining area was empty. Plenty of room for our six month old and we weren't disturbing anyone. The staff was also very nice. read more

We use Apple Spice as our primary office caterer. They've got a great menu with well-rounded boxed lunches (I recommend the curry chicken), and their homemade honey wheat bread on a sandwich is delicious. While the food is good, the reason we continue to return is the customer service. On the one or two occasions the order was not filled right, the staff corrected it and made sure we were happy. Last time there was confusion about the delivery date (from an error on our end), but the owner himself came by and delivered a fairly large order on short notice. On a side note: While I love the lunch menu, I wouldn't recommend the Thanksgiving catering. But if you're looking for a great, hand-made lunch and good customer service at affordable prices, this is the place to go. read more
