This place is a cozy hometown restaurant. Simple food that is comfort food is what you get here. The pancakes were light but filling, the soup hearty and the entree warmed and filled! It is not ritzy, but friendly and down to earth. The dessert case has some tempting treats ( we were to full from our meals to try them). We will be back here. read more

We have eaten here a couple of times for breakfast. The service is not the fastest but the food is good. I recently stopped off and allowed 45 minutes to eat breakfast as I had an appointment down the road. I used up the whole 45 minutes as it took a lot 30 minutes from the time we seated and got out food. got here about 7:40 a.m. and it was about 3/4 full. We did not have a problem Chowing down and paying our bill in the remainder 15 minutes but was eating faster then usual. read more

My wife and I stopped here based on reviews we read. Lexi was our waitress. We asked what was good and she said the Biscuits and gravy. I have been a patron of the Apple Tree here in my hometown for a few years now and enjoyed their service and food. One Saturday evening I came in around 6:30 p.m., there were a few people there, plus the owner who was in a conversation sitting at a table and the cook and 3 waitresses. I ordered a water and a 2 piece fried chicken dinner, including a baked potatoe and side salad, no beverage. Every time I get a baked potatoe it is undercooked, so I noted that to the waitress. I ate my salad, when the meal arrived the potatoe was undercooked. I sent it back and ate my chicken while I waited. I hadnt eaten since 10 a.m. so I asked if I could get some ribs to eat with my potaoe. I'm being very polite and patient, as I am a business owner (not in the food industry) and have 20 years Deli/Bakery management experience. The food was good, the waiting was horrible and I paid $26 (plus a $5 tip) for a half rack of ribs, a potatoe, 2 pieces of chicken and a salad. I messaged the owner the next day to which he held his ground on the price saying because I "changed my mind", I was charged with a chicken dinner and a rib dinner. NOT going back again! read more

OK, driving north on 151, not quite hungry when passing Madison and then Sun Prairie but starving when reaching Columbus, not attempting to push to Beaver Dam I ended up stopping for lunch and the big red apple appeared to be the only choice in town. I expected a typical low key diner with good food and friendly folks as there are many in any town in Wisconsin. I was first shocked within 5 minutes of seating when the smell of cigarette smoke came to me and I realized half the patrons in the place and a waitress apparently on break were puffing away on their Marlboros. Just a scene that is quite rare these days and I just didn't expect. Then came my waitress with a menu and a pot of coffee. She was smiling, friendly and the coffee was piping hot and strong. That was the good part of my lunch. The menu is typical for a diner: all day breakfast, salads, burgers, pitas, sandwiches. I settled for a turkey pita that came with a cup of soup (choices of the day: chicken rice or broccoli cheddar, picked the chicken one). The food arrived literally within 5 minutes of ordering. The only flavor I could get from the soup was salt, salt, salt. The pita was nothing like a pita: basically more like a thick wrap with some turkey meat and some melted swiss cheese. All pretty flavorless with again only one tastant: salt, salt, salt. On the bright side, my lunch set me back only $8 including tip. On the other positive side, as soon as I reached my hotel room, went for a run on the treadmill to get rid of the smoke and get some oxygen in my lungs and to lower my blood pressure based on this sudden surge of salt intake. Next time, I'll make sure to stop in Sun Prairie or push to Beaver Dam for food and I recommend you skip Big red apple, unless you don't really care about keeping healthy lungs and a healthy heart. read more

I go here more than any other restaurant in town. The staff is friendly. The food is good, rarely spectacular (it is diner food), but never bad. I order vegetarian items like omelettes, pancakes, vegetables, side salad, and baked potatoes, sometimes soup and pies. Most of what I order is simple food that I wouldn't expect they could mess up, yet when I visit other restaurants I'm surprised at how often many of them do. I feel comfortable in the dining room and leave satisfied, well-fed and not feeling like I spent too much money. read more

This place is absolutely amazing! Went here for the first time today and ordered a gyro(which I wouldn't normally do, most places don't do them very well) and it was absolutely delicious. On 7/9/2011 Nine friends were on a club trip to columbus antiques. We went to the Big Red Apple, and even thou they were very busy on this Saturday, we immediately were given a table to seat all of us. The menu was very complete, and the prices very affordable. We all ordered dinners and even a prime rib sandwich. The orders were complete with salad, soup, and even dessert. Alot of food, so we needed doggie bags. Waitresses were very efficient and friendly. Excellent Service, Excellent Food....Our club will return! Could not be happier. read more

Your basic family restaurant fare. Reasonable prices and portions. Nothing fancy but the curtains are nice. Quiet and comfortable.
