My husband and I are regulars here. We've been to Apple Villa for breakfast nearly every weekend for the three years we've lived in Batavia. The owner knows us, greets us, and remebers which waitresses we prefer. The food is not the most creative, but it is incredibly consistent. The coffee is the best I've ever had at a pancake house or diner and they serve it with real cream. Yum. I've tried just about everything on the menu at this point, and the only real miss was the Hawaiian omlette. But, maybe other people like the eggs and pineapple combo? The prices are a tiny bit higher than your run of the mill pancake house, but the friendly, speedy service and high quality products they use more than makes up for it. My favorite breakfast joint in this area. Excellent service and the woman who is the owner/manager is crazy about customer service, cleanliness and keeping her staff watching the tables. (Watch her when you visit this place, she has the busboys and waitstaff running around when she wants something). Usually a wait after 9:45am, but not longer than 15 minutes. Love the scrambled eggs (ask for them with cheese and they mix it in while cooking - they don't just throw cheese on top). The eggs + cheese cooking techique gets the five stars, alone. Taking off one star due to heaving 'powdered sugar-ing' of pancakes and the price of juice (seems way too high). Pancake-wise, no matter how many times I ask for no sugar (and it's been everytime I've been here), they come out coated. read more

We tried this place for the first time ever. The food was good (4.5 stars) the host/seating was not (1 star). When we arrived there were people in the vestibule waiting so we could tell it was busy. I walked in and told the host my name and number in our party(3). She said it would be about 15 minutes and we decided to wait. As I looked around the dining room I could see a few empty tables so I figured it would not take long to be seated. While waiting, after about 10 minutes, a group of six asked to be seated in one of the larger booths. Which by the way was empty when I first walked in. After about 20 minutes we got our table. One thing we found out when ordering the house specialty pancakes which are baked is that they take about 45 minutes. We decided to order something else and take that home. Breakfast portions where very filling. No complaints with the food or our waitress. She was always making sure our drinks were full and food was satisfactory. As we sat there for about an hour I could not help but notice the amount of people that were kept waiting for a tables. All while I could clearly see there was at least 8 tables open just on our side of the restaurant. I have worked as a host in a restaurant before and that would not happen on my watch. If a table is open you have to sit people right away and get them away from blocking the entrance. I also noticed things/people seemed to move at a slower pace here. Maybe they are not used to the busy restaurant culture. I can say for a fact that if I ever returned here and saw this operation being handled in this manner I would turn right out and never come back. read more

I enjoy eating here. Today I had one of the absolutely delicious specials. Avocado toast it was delicious. The food is usually very good. Love the Apple pancake, one time we even got the banana nut pancake. Both are amazing. I am always irritated by the fact that there are several tables open yet they make the customers wait I'm not sure what they're thinking is but they have a system there that doesn't make sense to me. This last time we went we brought our check up because we were ready to go we need to get out right away and we had to wait over six minutes while the waitress rang it up in the back. The hostess Bobby said that they didn't ring up anything upfront only carry outs. When my friend mentioned that we were in a hurry that that doesn't make sense to make us wait here she just looked at us like we were crazy. Never coming here again. We were fortunate enough on this busy Mother's Day to get a reservation for 9 at 10:30am. I wanted to take my in laws here for our brunch because their cream of chicken and rice soup is insane! So good. And we could also get breakfast or lunch, depending on our taste at the time! Well we check in a few minutes early and I noticed there were about 30 people waiting outside and in the foyer for a table. But while looking around, a quarter or more of the tables were empty. Very understaffed, especially for a holiday. We get seated. Our waitress, Shirley, greeted us promptly with her dry sense of humor, which we loved! She was very attentive and accomodating to the children in our party who wanted to order themselves. She should have had a second server helping her though with the size of our party. It's usually standard to have 2 servers for a 9-top. She definitely did her best, though. Food was decent but... I couldn't order what I wanted! They said because of the busy holiday they weren't serving lunch items until noon. I was looking forward to the soup and bacon and bleu burger. I was legit sad when she informed us of the temporary dining schedule. She still brought me the cream of chicken and rice soup that was available with my breakfast. They must've changed the recipe because it tasted very generic and from a premade package that was heated up. So dissapointing, as that soup was the whole reason I wanted to come here... Just overall didn't feel hreat about our experience. We will choose Lumes next time, long wait or not. read more

Review update still pretty much the same. They do seemed to have changed to different coffee which at least to me now is undrinkable. The other stuff although probably more expensive for the restaurant was very good. Overall the wait here has declined, probably because of the new Dennys down the street taking some of their business. I still enjoy their Omelets but just drink water now. After two hours at Lowe's picking out EVERYTHING for our basement bathroom, we were famished and decided to hit Apple Villa Pancake House (03/09/08). Found out later that we had JUST missed newly elected Representative Bill Foster (D-IL) who was out thanking the public for electing him the day before. I've always been fascinated by these "breakfast restaurants" that only are open until 3:00pm as a business model. I wonder if they just have "bank" on the weekends and then struggle during the week when they could be open for dinner and probably make some coin then. Eitherway, although crowded we were seated within 10 minutes and they had an available highchair for Aidan. We each had a large fresh-squeezed OJ ($3.50 a piece, ouch!!) and although I opted for breakfast, MK decided to do lunch. I had the Crisp Bacon Pancakes (bacon baked inside the cakes) with an appetizer of a cup of the cream of chicken rice soup. MK had the Patty Melt w/fries and also a cup of the soup. Soup was good - I prolly should have ordered a bowl. My pancakes came and there were 6 huge pancakes on the plate. Far too much for even ME to eat!!! and they were very good even with bacon in them. I don't think I'd try that ever again, but it was an interesting combination of pancakes and breakfast meats that made me try it. MK enjoyed her fries and said the patty melt was made properly. Aidan LOVED his bottle of Similac (we snuck it in - tee hee). Good meal, quick service, decent price (except for the OJ). Although not our favorite weekend breakfast/lunch place, it's not bad. I'd be curious to see if the ever would do a dinner how well it would go. If their sandwiches are good, I'm sure they could do it. We've visited Apple Villa maybe ten times now and have yet to have a bad meal. It's non-dinner hours are somewhat frustrating because we like the food so much. A favorite is their turkey club sandwich, it's HUGE (far too much lettuce, ask for less). Soups are good as are the other sandwiches we've had there. We love Apple Villa on Sunday Mornings. The food is fantastic, rarely is there a miss. It lacks a greasy spoon flavor, and I appreciate that. The food is served pretty fast and it's always good. The coffee is good, the juice is great. The only down fall to the Villa is that it costs the price of a dinner out for my husband and I. It's definetely more expensive than what you'd expect to pay for breakfast. But on the flipside of that, the food is really tasty and the service is pretty good. If I could give this place 0 stars I would. To start, the staff seems very incompetent as if no one has worked there very long or has a clue what is going on. The older lady who is seemingly running the show is one of the worst things about this place. I have been here several times and have personally witnessed her being incredibly rude and downright mean to staff and customers alike. The restaurant is very dreary and uninviting and this is all before you even get your food which is average on a good day. Stopped in for the first time today. Nice little diner set up. The waitress was very friendly and the host let us choose between a booth or a table, which I always appreciate. The food was excellent. I had an omelette with hash browns and chocolate chip pancakes. There was a small up charge for the chocolate ones, but well worth it. My wife had the berry French toast and a side of sausage. Poor customer service, even from owner. Went there to eat with family today. We had a new waitress, which we cut her some slack. The food was delivered at very different intervals so we couldn't eat completely together and we have her a coupon from my phone which she didn't take off. That is when the problems started. She asked to take my phone to show the coupon to someone, which again, since she was new I said OK. I watched her because I didn't feel entirely comfortable with this. She brought it to someone else and they appeared to be using my phone. So I walked over and they told me that they were emailing the coupon to their headquarters. I told them that they were wrong for doing this without my permission. Nowhere on the email did it say you have to print the coupon or they would email it. Instead of saying sorry that they were wrong for doing this, they began to justify they were right. There were several employees disagreeing with me on this basically saying it was a policy and not acknowledging that they were using my phone without my permission. One of the owners then jumped in to back them up. Apparently, agreeing to show someone your phone means they can use it. This situation escalated because I trusted that this waitress was going to "show" the phone and I said they were wrong for using my data and my email without my permission. Again, the owner saw no issue with this and continued to complain about me after I walked away from the situation that I could hear him across the restaurant. I will never go back here given their attitude. Lack of respect of customers like this is inappropriate as well as staff ganging up on a customer when a simple apology was in order. I have had my identity stolen before and feel this lack of respect of privacy is disturbing. read more

Ordered a meal that the menu indicated you got to pick a side. Waitress said the menu is wrong and would not honor it. Then the meal I always get came with only 3 bacon stripes instead of 4. I have been frequenting this establishment for 4 years. Obviously someone new has taken over. I pre ordered my apple pancake before my arrival, and still waiting 45 minutes before my food came to my table. I asked for a manager they sent me a little girl to say no manager available, and the owners was busy serving a party of 30. The owner looked out at me and saw that I was an African American and told the little girl to tell me he'll talk to me when he can. The owner finally came to my table 20 minutes later and asked me what my problem was, I said did it really take you this long to come see what was wrong, he said yes cuz I'm busy. I told him then get lost and beat it and let me enjoy my food, he said in return, you beat it and don't come back to my restaurant,he said your kind of business is not welcomed here. What a shame. This used to be a respectable place with great food and friendly service. The lady that ran the place valued her customers. In fact, we had gone there countless times since they opened in around 2002. Went there recently on a Sunday morning and ordered their famous baked apple, which they say is their specialty. (Actually pre-ordered to get a jump start on the 45-minute wait.) We actually waited longer than usual and when it came out, it was burnt - black on the bottom. Waitress even pointed it out to us when she served it and said they are making us a new one. Waited over an hour for the replacement and eventually told the server to take if off the bill as we had to go. We had been there almost 2 hours. She then brought it out wrapped to go along with the bill, the FULL BILL. When I asked her to remove it from the bill, she argued that we ate the first one and said they actually gave us a free one to take home, so we should be thankful. (We actually ate the apples off the top as we waited.) I asked to speak with the manager but he refuses to meet with customers. Instead he sends his young hostess to do his dirty work. So sure enough, she stood in front of all their customers arguing with my family. 18 years of patrionage and they fight us over $14? With the cheap so-called manager hiding in the back room. Needless to say we will not return. Lumes is happy to take the business. Such a shame. When his Mom ran the place, you could never walk in at 10am on a Sunday and be sitting within 2 minutes. I would have given more stars because the food is good but they advertise fresh squeezed orange juice which is a big deal to me. Before ordering I asked the server if it was squeezed on site and she said it was. The OJ tasted pasteurized or processed in some way and definitely not Squeezed on site. I asked the hostess to confirm that the juice is squeezed in house and she also said it was. I told her I didn't think it was and I have never tasted fresh squeezed on site OJ to taste as this did. Two things besides good food that make a breakfast wonderful are Fresh Squeezed OJ and pure maple syrup offered for an extra charge and Apple Villa has neither. read more

The experience that we had with the owner (actually the son of the owner) of this restaurant was something that I will never forget and never return to the restaurant because of it. When trying to settle a dispute on my final bill, he became a rude, belligerent, rage filled bully. He yelled at us loudly in front of other customers, he wouldn't let us get a complete sentence out without interrupting angrily. I couldn't understand what was going on until I read other reviews from people who had negative experiences with him as well and they saw what they describe as steroid rage and that makes perfect sense now, thinking back to what we saw. I'm sad that I'll never be able to go back here again but I can't support someone who teaches his customers so poorly. read more

I've tried Apple Villa quite a few times because it's so close to home, but I always feel like I'm missing something and could have gone somewhere better. The food is cooked fresh but the ingredients taste like they'd been frozen, so flavor is a bit lacking. It tastes like everything you expect from a chain breakfast joint, with absolutely nothing more. It doesn't fall below expectations, but if I'm going out for breakfast with the family, I'd like something a little better than "eh". If the prices were around $2 less for the meals I'd be a lot more OK with Apple Villa. For now, I'd rather wake up early and make the drive to Harner's. read more

I had lunch here one day. It was fairly standard diner fare. The BLT was decent, and much bigger than I thought it would be. It came with an unexpected bowl of soup too. I ended up leaving with leftovers, which was nice. I can't say it was very memorable beyond that though. read more
