Service was bad. They were polite, but incredibly slow and it wasn't even busy. It took forever to get our order well over an hour. Our appetizer was boneless wings and were served on a small metal cookie sheet looking thing instead of an actual dish. It didn't come with celery like they said it would. On this night, management and staff were very unprofessional and degrading. (My party and I arrived at 10:10, and was cash out at 12:45 05.18.2019, check 9068-1329174) The server, who was apparently taking care of 8-10 tables, finally approached our table and I asked for another beer. She stated " you've already had five and I can only bring you the check" I agreed and cashed out. Still in the establishment with my party last call was announced, I then approached the bar and paid for my drink in full. Management then approached me stating that I had been cut off. However, I never told that I could not drink in the establishment for the remainder of the night. He continued to raise his voice and became verbally aggressive. I explain I was never told I was cut off and that paid for my drink in full, I then asked for a refund as he attempted to grab my drink. I asked again for a refund, he then yelled " I'm not giving you a fucken refund" loud enough to have the entire establishment turn to our table. At this point the server in question opened her folder and throw money at our table while she was standing on top of a short staircase. My partner then stood up and stated " do not be taking to boy that way" management then said "ma'am sit down" clearly make a homophonic pun, causing the manager and the staff to laugh. After the unprofessionalism and Childishness that was displayed by the servers in question and manger involved, I nor my loved ones will be dinning at this establishment. I could just write warning you to stay away if you value the money in your pocket and that would be enough, but I am compelled to detail a few reasons why. First, please know that 20 years ago I actually liked going to eat at Applebee's.. 20 years later, however and I find myself taking another route home from work so I don't even have to look at the building. We've tried going back a time or two in the last couple of years, but it's always a mistake.. a horrible, horrible mistake.. So where to begin.. Ok, the food quality has tanked; portion sizes are never consistent; food served cold; steaks not cooked to order at ALL recent visits. Service is lacking; forever to get refills and everyone seems like they are working there as some kind of punishment. You know, like when you make your kids do chores because they spilled grape Kool Aid on the carpet even though you've told them 100 times not to drink grape Kool Aid in the living room? Applebee's is so consistently poor that you should only eat there ironically.. seriously. Take the family out to eat there as a goof.. Where good food and good service would actually RUIN the time because you went there in the first place to have a fun (and expected) horrible time.. That would be a way to get people in the door for sure if Applebee's started advertising "ironic" dining at their restaurants.. So much to denigrate them for (although not unfairly). After eating at Applebee's dozens of times in the past five years, we have finally given up. The food is mediocre and the kitchen is VERY slow. The wait staff is friendly, but the high turnover shows. And they cannot compensate for the very slow kitchen. Speaking of turnover, it seems that there is a new manager every few months and they hide in the kitchen rather than walking the floor to check on customer satisfaction. Their attractive lunch menu -- two of three among 1/2 sandwich, soup, and pasta -- gave them a short term advantage until Chili's matched it. Because Chili's is only a few blocks away, we no longer frequent Applebee's. And despite Harlingen's lack of good restaurants other than Mexican food, there are much better options for lunch and dinner. The irony of this Applebee's is that I have tried three or four Applebee's in Pennsylvania and this one isn't in the same league. What a shame that is in a market desperate for good restaurants. SUGGESTION FOR APPLEBEE'S REGION MANAGER: You should investigate why your Harlingen store is so poor, and try to hire a good manager who will stay a while to earn a healthy performance bonus for cleaning up this mess of a restaurant. Sadly, today was the worst experience that I have ever had in an Applebee's restaurant. We were greeted promptly by a hostess and were directed to sit down. We waited for over half an hour before someone even offered us a drink of water. Thankfully 'Silvio' was able to ask another server to come and wait on us. His name was Joe. Joe was both courteous and willing to help us out as much as he possibly could. We counted six waitresses standing around talking to each other and not waiting on customers. It was very frustrating because we came here on business and were looking to eat before we entered into our night shift. Both me and my associate had been accustomed to excellent service with Applebee's in various other parts of the country. I researched the restaurant once we had arrived on yelp.com and the reviews were as accurate as my experience was. I should mention that the quality of the food was poor. The appearance of the food was not anything near what was pictured on the menu. There were thumbprints all around the rim of the plate, and the food looked like it was just 'plopped' down onto it. The food looked gross. It was not appetizing at all! To make a long story short, it was a poor dining experience and much less than I had grown accustomed to while frequenting other Applebee's establishments throughout the United States. Had the worst experience last night at this Applebee's. I had a paper due at midnight so I just wanted to go eat and get home. It was 9pm, so I expected to be home by 10. My paper was pretty much done but I still needed to revise it and write a conclusion. Upon arriving they sat us down without providing us any menus. The server came 5 min later to ask us for our drinks. He came back 10 min later with the drinks and menus. 5 min later he took our orders. 30 min later the food still hadn't arrived. The other party we were sitting with left because of the wait. 5 min later the food arrives along with the canceled meals (from the party that left) and a meal that we didn't order that was apparently for me. I had asked for chicken strips and they brought me a grilled chicken breast it seemed. Waited 10 min for my strips to arrive. Started eating. Two strips in and a couple of fries I noticed a hair. I'm hoping it was a beard hair because it was pretty thick. The server applied a discount but that didn't make the experience better. After the entire process with the check I got home at 11 with only an hour till midnight. The people at the bar seemed to be having a good time and didn't look to have an empty glass, but I certainly don't recommend dinner at this Applebee's. Please note that I don't go to Applebee's for great service but calling this a horrible experience is an understatement. read more

We have gone here on weekend nights a couple times and it was packed and crazy. So we decided to try it out early on a Saturday afternoon around 3 pm. They were promoting burgers so I ordered a bacon cheeseburger, which is one of their basic, everyday, always on the menu burgers. Waited awhile and enjoyed dressed draft beers (lime and salt). The burger comes out with bacon and cheese only, no garden. I like pickles and onions... just sayin. I requested the garden and when it came out, I opened up the bun to add mustard. The burger was in about 6 pieces on the bun. I sent it back because really what is the excuse for that. Whoever cooked the burger (warmed it up) saw how it looked going on the bun and still sent it out. We waited awhile for a manager, requested and spoke to a manager. The burger was replaced but no discount was given. I'm through with that Applebee's. They were promo-ing burgers and the burger came out like garbage! 3 pm on a Saturday. Everyone in the place was freezing cold. The manager said the the thermostat said 78, and he said he could not do anything. We left.

I've tried most apples in the valley and this has to be the best one yet!!!!! This Applebee's used to have horrible service, but I think within the last year they've made some serious changes cause their Food and service are excellent! Wings are a must have every time!!! Food is prepared rather quickly. We went during my lunch hr one day and asked the server if the food would take long cause I only had an hr lunch and she said not to worry she could have our food out immediately.... Which she did! She brought our drinks, and within 5 mins or less our food was out!! On another occasion we even witnessed an act of kindness on a cold night after a homeless lady walked in to stay warm in the waiting area. The staff quickly check up on her and welcomed her to a booth while one of the shift managers brought her some coffee and offered her food ( that he would pay for). The lady accepted the coffee and squeezed in a little cat nap. After witnessing that , there's no doubt in my mind that the harlingen staff cares for their customers!! read more

First off the restaurant was freezing! We had 3 people in our party and we all were super cold. Secondly we waited almost an hour after we ordered , not once did our waitress come back to offer anything or tell us she was sorry about the wait....then they brought us the wrong entree twice.... we ordered a bacon cheese burger and the first time we got pasta and chicken. We sent it back and you could tell our waitress was irritated ( she wasn't super friendly to begin with) two of us tried to wait to eat for the third person to get back the correct food... our food started to get cold so we started eating. We were done when they finally brought the food out.... again it was the wrong order! We tried to explain to the waitress we didn't get the cheese or the bacon and could she just pack it to go? She got down right rude and started arguing with us... she respond " well it's not my fault and I will go back and just put a piece of cheese on it!) I was very nice and told her we never said it was her fault and we just wanted her to box it to go etc... she continued to be rude and argue over the situation... she finally went to print up the receipt and she brought us the check . she did deduct the chicken pasta( that we never ordered) but didn't say anything to us as she left... she put the check down and walked off. The restaurant wasn't super busy so I'm not sure why the food took so long ......the waitress was the rudest I've seen in a very very long time! Slow service. Host sat other people at our table for 7 people with a high chair. Their party only had two people in it. I went up to the host and asked how much longer and he told me that he just sat my party of 7. I look at him dumbfounded and say "No, we are sitting right here." Him and the other host start yelling in Spanish at each other and kick the other party out of our spots. We then sit for 5 minutes waiting for a server. When we finally order and get our salads, we don't have any silverware. We ask our server for some and it takes him a long time to find some. Started out with the artichoke and spinach dip and my girlfriend said it tasted like cum. Now I don't know I've never tasted cum, but she said so. I guess I thought it was alright but totally microwaved due to the steam coming out from the center of the dip. But what do you expect from a corporate restaurant am I right? After that we got boneless wings that were some Asian spicy flavor and they were GROSS. I've never tasted a wing sauce so disgusting like that. I asked our waitress, who was nice, if they were any good and she made it seem like they were great but they weren't! Not her fault she was just trying to upscale, I get it. We got our main entrees and they were alright. I ordered ribs and there was hardly any meat on them bones! I didn't even get full because my girlfriend ate all my fries!!! Anyways, service is great but I heard the management is not so well. I'll probably never be coming back here because the food was so disappointing and not worth the high prices. read more
