I lived in Newburyport for 32 years and always saw Dr. Appleton now retired. My visit 2 weeks ago I was thrilled with the newer eye doctor and reported to me I no longer had Macular Degeneration or cataracts.; i Thanks to the Partner I teamed up with in 2017. My appointment was about 15 minutes late but I felt the exam was very good. I had good advice picking out frames and I didn't feel rushed.

Doctor Raam was great, very kind and gentle when working close to my eyes and a great help putting my new contact lens in when the appointment finished. I see others with the same complaint - lack of response and poor customer service. I spoke with the Optician and he asked me to do some research and to call back the next day. I called back the next day and the day after and the day after that... and finally gave up when I received no response. I have had good and bad experiences here. I've been ignored in the retail eye glass area while trying on lenses and I've also had good assistance in the eye glass area. One thing I will say is that the optometrists (I've seen at least 3) are all excellent. But the retail area is not consistent and, as others have mentioned in reviews, are not responsive. read more

Two people in my family returned here after many years because Dr. Appleton was wonderful. Sadly, the doctor is now retired. Optometrists on staff now are decent, although not terribly thorough. Customer service is terrible, unwelcoming and unprofessional. Observed staff and doctor having a detailed personal conversation out in the open for several minutes before acknowledging any patrons. For a small local business, my family, including someone who just accompanied a patient on a visit, were surprised at the dismissive and negative attitude from staff on multiple occasions. I get it that lots of people are buying online now, so when we spent nearly a thousand dollars in a three month period here, we sort of thought maybe staff would at least make a mild attempt at assisting patients. They simply cannot be bothered and will make sure you know how much your presence inconveniences them. A tip: for small business and brick and mortar to survive, connecting with other humans is important. It's an optometrist, not a gulag. Consider SEEING your patients as such. read more

Just started a new job in the area, Appleton Eye is where we send our employees for their eye exams as I had little choice in this decision I was greatly surprised and happy with the visit, the doctor explained everything to me and answered all my question, the staff for the fitting was very knowledgeable and made sure that my choices were going to fit correctly and as I were progressives when I received my glasses they were great!!! all staff members were very friendly and there was no wait when I got there... This was my first experience with Appleton Eye as well with Dr. Rzepka. I was pleasantly surprised when she greeted me in the waiting room (not a medical asst)and she was running on time! She was very attentive throughout the entire exam and she spent more time with me than my own PCP does! At the end of the exam, I mentioned that I was interested in trying contact lenses. She explained all of the options that my prescription could work with as well as the different price points with various rebates that are offered currently. She also explained Appleton's contact lens policy as well as a national policy, which seemed more than reasonable to me (its comforting that she is compliant with nationally set standards). Throughout this whole process I was met with professionalism, undisputed knowledge, and a sense of understanding and compassion that seems to be missing in healthcare today. I have been and will continue to recommend her for the best eye care along the North Shore. read more
