A chain isn't a chain if it's a local store with multiple locations, right? Well, this question turned out moot when I found out ApplianceSmart is in 4 states, so I guess this turns out to be yet another chain review. Chain review disclaimer included below, as well as my apologies. ApplianceSmart is a scratch and dent appliance store. You can approach it two ways. Find the model of appliance you're looking for at a "real" appliance store, and see if any ApplianceSmart locations have it. Being scratch and dent, their inventory changes often and different locations will have different inventory. If the appliance has been out for a few years, chance are, one of the locations has it. The second is just to walk in and see if you can find a deal. Do some homework and see what the "normal" price of an appliance you're looking for is. You'll likely find something at ApplianceSmart that you'll feel good about. This particular location is their warehouse location (take the Como exit right of Hwy 280), so it's bigger than the rest. But there is plenty of selection at all their stores because they are all sizable. You'll see fridges, washers, dryers, ovens, and dishwashers (and more) lined up as far as the eye can see (or at least until your eye hits a wall). We've had really good luck with the purchases we've made. The scratches and dents have been minor, and are in places that would be hidden once installed (like the side of a fridge) and they have all worked as if new (which they are, just slightly cosmetically damaged). All appliances come with the manufacturer warranty, so there's no reason to come take a look to see if you can find a deal. ----- Chain review disclaimer: I won't do 'em. You can't make me. Well, ok. Yes, you can. But not easily. I've sworn off chain reviews because chains are supposed to be the same wherever you go. That's the beauty of a chain restaurant. My family and I were looking for a fridge in our price range. Looking at fridges on line, we decided to lower our expectation to a run-of-the-mill ice box. We went to the Appliance Smart factory outlet store and were amazed to find an awesome side-by-side fridge with all the bells and whistles that had been discounted nearly $700! It's a scratch and dent, but it's not a bad looking unit. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. Although all staff were male, they did not make my mom and I feel like dumb women. Most importantly, the salesmen were honest about the refrigerator's condition and expected delivery. The delivery went off without a hitch, even with a freak snowstorm in April (thanks Minnesota). The delivery guys took out the old fridge, brought in the new and had a great attitude about working around piles of snow. tl;dr: Great price. Friendly sale staff. A plus service. Do not buy from Appliance Smart if you value your time. OR save at least $50 by reading this if you still want to buy from them. Appliance smart scheduled a 7:30-11:30 delivery window for a washer/dryer, which they missed. At 11:30 I called them and they had no way of contacting their driver. They then promised me a delivery window of 1-3:00 and that I would be at the beginning of that window. They couldn't deliver right away because the appliances were never on the truck in the first place (so why have a delivery window starting at 7:30 if they never could have met that window?). The delivery then missed the second window and did not arrive until after 3:00. Appliance Smart made $192 of net profit on me based off of their margin from the manufacturer (inside source) and refused to offer more than $30 refund which was their total delivery cost despite talking to a manager. I took the $30 and am now teaching you how to save from them instead. If you do still decide to buy from Appliance Smart know these things: 1.) They match delivery and disposal fees from all other retailers. Lowe's is $15 per appliance disposal and free delivery. You will save ~$50 by having them match this. 2.) Make sure you call their SALES dept at the beginning of the window to see where you are at on their route. I was unable to reach their delivery dept. They contract their delivery out, so they will tell you that they have no way of reaching their drivers, but they can. 3.) If their delivery is delayed vs your window, the sales department is authorized to refund the entire cost of delivery without much escalation. Generally, the company has no accountability to the results of their contract delivery company (at T&H delivery). They are rude, uncompromising, and unwilling to admit fault. You might as well buy from a big box store. read more

Bought a washer dryer front loading combo. The handle broke off the washer and the paddles on the dryer broke doing standard laundry. When I called for service and explained we could not use the dryer because the paddles were broke...they needed to send someone to look at the paddles first. After 10 days someone showed up...surprise they are broke...now to order the paddles...2 more weeks...stuck on stupid is now way to go thru life. read more

We were looking for a black, slide in range - which is a rare breed these days. Heidi didn't have anything in the store that fit the bill but she looked at the inventory at other stores and sent us here to see Lester. He was great to deal with. They did have the range and the top was kind of smeared so he cleaned it up - sharing that the person who was dusting the tops of the ranges used the wrong kind of cleaner - that was true. We also bought the extended warranty because if you never need to use the warranty at the end of the coverage period you can spend the dollar amount on anything in the store. That is not the case anywhere else so the value really never depreciates. We will be back. read more

Was sold what I was told was a brand new fridge less than two years ago. Fridge stopped working night before thanksgiving. Lost hundreds of dollars of food. Week later had repair man out who informed me that this fridge is used and has had a part replaced on not already! Not sure how that could have been unless it happened before I bought it. read more

We bought a dishwasher, and a stacking washer-dryer from them. Honestly, I can't even begin to go into all the problems we had but here are some highlights: 1) The installers that came to do the washer-dryer did such a poor job of situating it the units that the drawer for the detergent couldn't open because they had put it with a sink jutting out in front of the washer. The dryer vent was so poorly installed that it fell off and my husband had to re-do it. Plus they used about 30 feet of vent for what only needed about 6 feet. They couldn't even be bothered to cut it to size. 2) My husband picked up the dishwasher himself so he could bring it home. While the people at ApplianceSmart were "inspecting" it to make sure it was in good condition, they actually BROKE a part off of it! They assured my husband they would have a replacement part sent to him. About a MONTH (!!!) later, a part comes in the mail -- the WRONG part. Since then, we have repeatedly gone down there, called, been told that the manager is not there and no one else can help, been told that only the person who sold us the machine could help, and been told that there was no record of the part being ordered. This was FOUR months ago. Today I went there in person, planning to camp out every day handing out flyers telling incoming customers why I was there. The manager finally just went in the back and yanked the part off of another dishwasher. It was handed to me with a sour expression and not one word of apology. I would NEVER go there again for anything that required any service at all. And frankly, if I ever bought anything from them again and they broke off a part while inspecting it, I would instantly demand a refund, and buy another of the exact same appliance. STAY AWAY!! We purchased several products from here and will NEVER return! First they delivered a new fridge and they broke the handle and left! Had to wait for a long time to get a new one delivered, at which time they damaged our floors and walls when they put it in. Dealing with the delivery person to come out and look at the damage and pay for it- well we are still waiting! We have to bully and threaten a law suit in order for anyone to call us back. We also purchased a washing machine that works like crap- leaves lint film on clothes and clothes so wet it takes twice as long to dry them...among other issues with it- they said nothing is wrong with it- we have no recourse! DO NOT RECOMMEND!!!! Purchased washer/Dryer. First they said they would uninstalled old ones, install the new ones, then take the old ones away (no worries we'll take care of everything). When they got to my home THEN they said WE DON'T UNINSTALL ANYTHING! and they don't INSTALL any gas dryers at all. They left the new ones and said just call when I have the old ones uninstalled, they will come back to pick them up. Still have them! this was three weeks ago. I washed a load of clothes and the wash was so rough it damaged my clothes. I went to look up operating instructions then to realized they had not left any paper work nor a operators manual for the washer. Called the store and was told that their appliances DON'T ALWAYS come with manuals. I would have to look them up online and print them myself (100 page booklet). After much conversation, they reluctantly said they would print one, but that I would have to come back to the store to pick it up myself. Then again reluctantly said he would mail it out (never did). My husband went to the store to pick it up, and was told they didn't have it. Called the store again, they said they don't know why my husband told that, because it's sitting right here on the counter, yet no one felt kindly enough to mail it. Then basically I was told once I used the washer they could no longer return it. I would have to take that up with the factory warranty. That is their policy! Something we supposedly had signed at purchase but was not explained to, nor given a copy of, nor is it posted anywhere in the store. Then went on to suggest the problem sounds like the drum spin might be up too high, but yet did not offer to send someone out to take a look at it, even though they have a repair department. I then said how would I have know there was a problem unless I had used it. He repeated "that's our policy" Then went silent like "Oh Well! That's your problem now!" When I asked where the return policy was posted or that I would like to see a copy that we supposedly signed, then he says maybe we can exchange it. REALLY! I feel like I just got ripped off!!! Run don't walk - away from this company. If you ever have a problem with your appliance, their service department will screw things up beyond recognition. First of all you can't talk to anyone. You have to leave at least 3 messages before someone calls you back - 3 days later. Then they send a guy out in 4 days. He fumbles around and says he'll be back in 4 days with a part. After those 4 days the service manager calls and says the unit is unserviceable and YOU have to call the manufacturer. The manufacturer says they'll ship a replacement to Appliancesmart in 5 days. THEN the service manager screws up the paperwork and you sit for another week. You call the manufacturer and they say it'll be another week. After a MONTH you'll be scouring the web looking for forums like this to post your sad story. I'd be skeptical of any good reviews, it's probably just ApplianceSmart management doing damage control. read more

Well, WHERE DO I START??? First, I bought a refrigerator in Sept, 2008. It was a nice "looking" fridge, however, it has been problematic since. The "shelves" (on the doors" are flimsy and should never have been installed on something that never has weight on it, let alone a daily use product to hold stuff as heavy as gallon milk containers (yes, this was advertised as being made for milk gallon containers in the door). And, if you are wondering, NO, THEY DO NOT COVER SHELVES ON THEIR EXTENDED WARRANTY, even though they DO on the factory warranty--under their "extended warranty", they are considered "cosmetic" and therefore, are NOT covered. Cosmetic, really? Without the shelving, you have nothing more than a big KEG cooler. Read the fine print carefully--salesman told me it was covered, and the warranty company refused--said you need to read your contract--doesn't matter what salesman said. It was a choice between Appliance Smart and SEARS; I chose Appliance Smart due to them saying they covered everything SEARS does, at about half the price of the extended warranty through SEARS. IT'S A LIE!!! In June of 2011, it went dead. They ended up replacing the compressor to the tune of $450 for the warranty company. They were in NO HURRY to get me service. After all, it's not like you "need" a refrigerator in a house with kids, RIGHT???? Well, filed another claim 3 days ago. About a month ago, the ice maker quit working. I didn't think too much of that. Then, I would get milk out that seemed "warm", but looked at the digital thermostat on the fridge and it said it was correct. Finally, I started hearing a "beeping" that I didn't know where it came from. It's the fridge--AGAIN--NOT cooling. The electronics are intermittent on the fridge, and when it says it's cooling, I verified that it is not by putting two separate thermometers in the fridge, both of which read the same temperature. I filed a claim, and as any reputable company would do when you have a fridge and/or freezer go out, they stated there is NO HURRY in getting a fridge fixed. I now have to wait until Saturday to get my fridge fixed, when it went out on Monday. GGGOOOOOOOOODD service there. They said, IF it's a covered reapir (which, guaranteed it will be), I can buy new food, and when I do, I can submit a claim to be reimbursed. REALLY??? I have two kids in the house that need to eat, and need to have milk. Bottom line, do NOT go off of what the "salesman" tells you. Go off of the small print in the pages long agreement that says what they will and will NOT do. And, to this day, the salesman (most) say they cover the "shelving" on fridges on their $99 extended warranty, which is a LIE. Call the warranty company from the sales floor, on speaker phone with the salesman standing right there, to see if it's covered or not. And, just to make sure you cover yourself, I would record the transaction on your cell phone to ensure you can back up what the sales man told you about the product, what's covered and what is not covered, etc. read more

Long story short, we have purchased many appliances over the years at Appliance Smart. We bought fridge, oven, washer & dryer and microwave. We didn't have any issues. The washing that we bought from them broke and we were able to get someone to come out and fix it very quickly. However, it is different this time. We recently bought a new fridge because our old one broke. We've been without a fridge for a few days already at this point. We were desperate and needed a new one right away. We decided to buy an open box and we were told by the sale person that the product would be delivered by Tuesday next week. Be bought the fridge on Thursday. We called on Saturday to confirm the delivery and we were told again by the store that the unit would be delivered on Tuesday. However, we were informed by the delivery people that the delivery is on Wednesday. We were every unhappy with the situation and the inconsistency between the two companies. We called the guy who sold us the unit and complained about the situation. He told us that he would check and get back to us. He never did. I called a few hours later and asked to speak with the manager. I complained and made it abundantly clear that we were not happy with the service that we were getting. He said he couldn't do anything about the situation and would offered $ 40 for customer appeasement. I didn't say yes or no because I felt like what he offered didn't make me feel better. By they way, we spent about $ 1500 for everything. At some point, the manger got every irritated and told me that I am accusing them of not knowing how to do their business and asked if I wanted to cancel the purchase. Realizing that I wouldn't get anywhere with this guy, I told him that I would be waiting for my unit on Wednesday. I said thank you and hanged up. I wish I had a choice to cancel the purchase. The unit was delivered on Wednesday, finally. The delivery guys were nice and decent. But the fridge was too big for our kitchen door. It wouldn't fit even if the doors were to be taken off. He asked if we wanted out old fridge to be removed and said that we would have to pay if they take the old one away. He also said delivery fee would be refunded if they don't take the old one away. We decided to keep the old fridge since we didn't want to spend the money. We then called the store and let them know about the situation. We asked about the delivery fee and we were told that it wouldn't be refunded since they already made the attempt to deliver the unit. We were told it was our job to make sure that the unit can get into the house. We then told him what the delivery guy told us and he said that is not true. We asked to speak with the manager and he said that manager wasn't there. We demanded that the manager calls us tomorrow morning. The manager refunded everything. However, Appliance Smart lost our trust and we will never return there again. The whole team, sale, manager and delivery, is not on the same page. July 2018 read more

I agree. Avoid these guys. I ordered a "new" microwave and I was told it would take 10 business days to get it from Whirlpool. On the 9th day I called the store to check on progress and was told that it was on back order but they had a store model that was in perfect condition and that they would sell it to me at a discount. I called back to speak to the assistant manager who told me that he didn't know anything about a discount and that the item had been discontinued by Whirlpool. I told him that his staff member had called me a few hours ago and left me this message. This was a Wednesday and he told me he couldn't do anything and that I should call this staff member when he returned to work on Saturday. I asked for the store manager and he said sorry he is gone and will be in a seminar tomorrow. I got a hold of my staff member on Saturday and told him I wanted the item (the discount was fair 1/3 off) and that I would come over and get it. When I got there they were having problems getting it out of the display and broke a clip and told me sorry it would need to go to service; I was told that it would go to service the following Monday and likely return on Wednesday. I called on Saturday because I had heard nothing (except I called on Thursday and was told it was still in service per their computer screen) and it was back and so I went and picked it up. Whew....very poor service, no one seems to know what is really going on there. I would avoid them. read more

We bought several kitchen appliances from Appliance Smart Hopkins and it was the worst customer service experience of my life. They screwed up everything from the start of the transaction (incorrectly took down our contact info and never corrected it throughout the transaction, causing major confusion for everyone involved) to delivery (delivery truck never showed up while we waited for 6 hours for them with food spoiling outside, etc., and called every hour to see if they were still coming. Assured they were, eventually they told me that the truck w our stuff had been back at the store for hours.) One massive screwup and another, I was told they would refund our delivery fee. Guess what they did?! Charged me for delivery instead of refunding my money. This store, their managers and their ridiculously terrible delivery service deserve a big fat F. My fiancee and I bought a whole house worth of appliance from these con-artists and our "brand new" fridge failed within days of delivery, we called their service department and were told that the soonest someone could come out would be over a week later, so we called around and found another authorized Frigidaire repair facility who had an appointment in only a few days, well they came and found the fridge needs a new damper motor (broken) and motherboard (apperently they have to replace the motherboard on all this model due to programming error) well it will be over a week for the parts to come, so 2 weeks to get a brand new fridge working, NOT ACCEPTABLE. So we went back in to appliance smart wanting to exchange our fridge, or have them bring us some temporary fridge or even knock off a few hundred dollars for all the food that spoiled, well contrary to their signs claiming "100% Satisfaction money back gaurantee" we were told that the appliances, which all but the fridge are still not even hooked up or used, are now "used" appliance and we cannot return them, nor can they do anything to help us. Moral of this story, avoid these guys like the plague, go to a reputable store, like Sears, Home Depot, Lowes, Best Buy, anyone but these jerks at Appliance Smart. read more

I have purchased in the last year three appliances from appliancemart just off of 280. After a screw up with the pedestal for the front loading washer, the dishwasher has needed repair twice and now the washing machine is not draining water (the drain hose is not plugged) and they can't get here until Monday. Sorry to rain on your parade but I must add to your review. I found out a little something out appliance smart today that the people must know. I purchased a refrigerator that was delivered yesterday and it just did not work at all, hence I was out $200.00 worth of food. I had my frozen food, milk, cheese, ect in there for about 14 hours and it all went bad. I called Appliance Smart who refused to replace the fridge so I called Whirlpool and what an eye opener from there. Whirpool informed me that my "new fridge" had been registered to someone else back in 02/2007 and had been serviced several times and deemed defective. Here is the clincher it was under a different retailer that went out of business in 2008. Then Appliance Smart told me that they did not purchase the fridge until August of 2008. Then I went to another retailer to look at refrigerators and the rep told me that he worked at another appliance store that went out of business recently and they had sold all of their items (new and used) to appliance smart and he stopped in there the day after his store closed and he saw some of their used items on the floor being sold as new. Then while at another store I met another rep who told me a very similar story, so beware you may be getting a used appliance and they will tell you that it is new. After all of this and me getting all the way to a regional manager at appliance smart I finally got a refund and they picked up my very stinky fridge but it took about ten phone calls and me putting up a fight. DO NOT BUY FROM APPLIANCE SMART. They claim to match pricing but when it comes down to it, they will have every excuse why they can not match the price. I purchased a four piece kitchen appliance set. Two days after taking them home, Lowe's had the same set for $854.44 less and because the stove had one digit in the model number different they would not honor the price. Even though looking at the stoves it was the exact same appliance. They say they will give me only $200 back. Lets see if I ever do see it. If they would of credited the correct amount for the three appliance with the exact same model numbers it would of been $460.01 credit not including tax. They were very difficult to work with. They told me so many lies through the process. On Wednesday night I was told all I need to do was bring in the ad and they would credit me the money. I show up on Thursday morning and that was no longer the case. My salesmen said he would not be there on Thursday but anyone could take care of it for me. When I walked in the door, he was standing right there. I tried to return all the appliances and they told me that I could drop them off at any parking lot but I was not getting my money back.
