We had a furnace that was over 20 years old. Appolo replaced it with a more efficient model that qualified for a rebate from National Grid in a very timely manner. We were very impressed with customer service and installers. read more

The only positive thing I can say about my experience with Appolo Heating is they sent a service man out the same day. Three years ago i replaced my Carrier Air conditioner (which worked great for 25 years without repairs.) with a Lenox furnace and a 5 ton Lenox Central Air conditioner for $13,000. Two days ago, my Lenox Central Air stopped throwing cold air. I called Appolo, since I bought it from them, realizing it was under warranty for 5 years.I was told by the repairman that there was no coolant in the system and I would be charged to diagnose where the leak was. He informed me the pin hole was in the evaporator coil and would need to be replaced. I was told I had to pay for today's charge and would be notified with the total amount for repairs. My charge for the technician to come and diagnose the issue was around $500 (no repairs included).y I shared the price with some friends only to discover how ridiculous the price was. This company wanted to charge over $3000 in addition to repair my unit. The warranty did not cover any labor and would not cover the $3000 part because I did not have the annual cleaning. BEWARE of Appolo Heating. Their labor costs are insane and there isn't any support for the customer. I will NEVER do business with this company again nor will any of my friends and family. Reprehensible price gouging They were professional and responsive when I called about my central AC breaking down. However, the tech stated that the fan motor than broke would be $1,100 to repair. He also said that replacing our entire system would be the best thing to do as it was "old". That would run anywhere from $4,000 and up. I researched what a fan motor costs and found it online for $259.99 with free next day delivery. I also found another tech that would do the install for $100. Took him 30 minutes to get it done. So I saved myself $740. Wouldn't trust Apollo to give me a fair deal and certainly wouldn't recommend them. read more

Appolo installed the HVAC system when our house was built, and we have had a contract for regular maintenance with them ever since. Three years ago, the tech who came to do the Fall heating checkup found a serious problem with our furnace that required that it be shut down and replaced. That was on the coldest day of December! Obviously not a happy situation, but the kind of thing that can happen, and Appolo was able to get a new furnace installed in about 36 hours. More recently, our AC system stopped working (on the hottest day in August - starting to feel like Charlie Brown here). The technician arrived an hour earlier than promised, and it took him all of 15 minutes to get the system back on line. Their technicians understand HVAC systems, get the job done, and are really pleasant guys to deal with. Couldn't ask for anything better! read more

This is a terrible company. My air conditioning unit was not working and they were the installer. I called them on a Sunday and they said it would be a minimum of $178 to come out and check. Fine. They came out and said it was electrical. The technician said he had to go to Home Depot to get a breaker. Fine. He comes back with the wrong breaker and says there is nothing he can do. Then he charges $300. I later fixed the issue myself. I asked Apollo to call me to discuss the bill as I thought the extra amount was unjustified since the technician bought the wrong breaker and still charged me. I never heard a response. I will never contact them again and will tell all my neighbors about the poor service. read more

Our hot water stopped working at 5pm on a Friday night. I noticed when I tried to give my 2 and 3 year old a bath. I called Appolo since they had a 24 hour on call service. I got an operator who said a technician would be in touch shortly. Joe called us back within minutes and was able to help us over the phone. Bought a house, first night we stayed here the furnace was out! Called several different places, none of which answered phones despite being theoretically 24hours. Appolo was the first to answer the phone promptly after hours, and the technician showed up when he said he would. Ed was very fair and helpful and solved our problem that night - had the right part in the truck, which was a blessing I couldn't believe! He was very chill with my hypercurious 6yo too for which I am grateful. He did his best to save us money too, though the total was quite a lot (it was an emergency though). My thermostat went out during the night and when I awoke it was chilly in the house and the thermostat was not longer lit up. I checked the breaker box, but that seemed to be in order. I called Apollo, and within the hour Michael Neale from Apollo called to let me know he would be over within 15 minutes. He came, he looked the heating/air conditioning units over, and within a few minutes, found the problem, fixed it, and my thermostat and heat, once again were in working order. read more

On January 27, we had Appolo come to give us an estimate on heating our unfinished basement. We already had several other professionals under contract to do other aspects of the work (electrical, plumbing, painting, etc). We were told at that time if we quickly signed up and made a large deposit, we would "get on their schedule for February". We made it well known that we needed the work underway in February and that this was essential to us, as other contractors needed access to do their work. After we signed the contract and made a $6,075 deposit (well over 50% of the overall job, in retrospect I should've questioned this), we called Appolo to "get on their schedule". We were told (and still have the voicemail) that we were now "looking at mid-March" at the earliest. We had already given them over $6K of our money, and we had to contact them, and then we were told we're already being pushed. I checked with our other contractors and "mid-March" would not work for them AND I was extremely disappointed with Appolo's customer service at this point. So I called to cancel the contract. Appolo did not want to hear that, and could magically now schedule us for the end of February. I did not trust them at this point and I also did not appreciate their rudeness, so I wanted to cancel. The sales rep was clearly angry and told me that he had to talk to his boss. He called me back and said they decided a 15% "restocking fee" needed to be applied. Appolo kept $1,661.25 of my money for doing zero work (they provided one estimate). It would've been understandable if there was a nominal fine for canceling but this absolutely obscene. I STILL was never given a real start date and I have no evidence that they re-stocked or ordered anything, not to mention the fact things get returned all the time, they could likely use some parts for other jobs, not sure if any of it even shipped yet. $1,661.25 to order or return some parts for job that was yet to be scheduled. I did not even get to find out if Appolo is actually good at what they are supposed to do. This experience was one of the worst I've encountered from any business and I will be repeating this story to anyone I know looking for HVAC services in the area. read more

Recently our forced air unit started making a strange sound, so I decided I should probably have somoene come out to take a look at it. Our unit was also due for a cleaning so I figured I could kill two birds. Our house is very new and the unit was installed by Apollo so I figured I'd give them a call first just because their phone number was plastered all over the place. When I called the receptionist informed me that I'd need to have two separate service visits (one for the sound and one for cleaning) and that they couldn't take care of both at the same time. When I asked why, she didn't really have a reason - just said it was how it was done there. Fine. So I asked if someone could come out to take a look at the unit and make sure the sound wasn't something catastrophically wrong. Since my wife would be the one at home, I made sure to give the woman her cell number and she even told me they would call when they were going to be coming. I made an appointment for 10/23/09 with a window of 9am-12pm. My wife sat around waiting, and waiting, and waiting... They never showed. Never called. Nothing. At about 12:30 she called and they didn't even apologize. She asked if we could get a discount and they said no. Great customer service! We'll be calling someone else and avoiding Apollo in the future. read more

GREAT JOB! We were staying with my family and the hot water heater locked up...on a Saturday evening. The options were limited so we called another company (Bass) for after hours assistance. First, the Bass person repair person shows up with ONE tool and muttered something about being new. Then he went downstairs for 20-30 minutes, upon return, he said that its going to cost $250 for his visit plus another $700+ to get some part he needs to order and install... Here's where a 2nd opinion can be your best friend!...we then had a second company, Appolo Heating Inc come out on Sunday, this guy comes in, cleans off the filter and whatnot, 30 minutes and $200 later, problem solved, hot water reactivated and pointers given on how to prevent or repair this in the future. I had a problem with my home's furnace. The home was built 7 years ago, and we bought it this summer, so I wasn't familiar with the furnace's history, but I called Apollo Heating because they were involved in the install when the house was originally built. We only moved in this summer, so I knew nothing of the home's or furnace's history. Apollo wanted to charge their normal price to send a maintenance guy out, mentioning that they had *never* been called out by the previous owner for any work on the furnace at all. I knew there was another place locally that had $50 off service calls and that the service call was free if they did any paid repair work, so I figured I'd try my luck with the cheaper route. Turns out you get what you pay for. The other company's "service expert" showed up later that day and told me the reason I wasn't getting any heat from the furnace, despite flashing "system OK" with the LEDs on the circuit board was because the circuit board had gone bad, telling me that that wasn't unusual. He also told me it was going to be $532.00 to repair, and that since they'd be able to order the part first thing next morning, he'd be able to get our heat on by Monday. (It was Thursday evening at this point.) That company wasn't available by phone, as it was after 4PM, but Apollo was. I figured I would call Apollo to see if they could give me a quote on the circuit board, in hopes that I could get our heat working Friday instead of Monday. Turns out that if I'd need them to, the technician could have come out for an after hours call *that evening*. I told the technician, Greg, what I was looking for a quote on, and he sounded very surprised. He started asking some very common sense questions, such as: "How did the technician deduce that it was the circuit board?" "Did he try testing with a different thermostat?" "Did he check your voltage level?" There were other common sense questions that showed me that Greg had a much better grasp of troubleshooting a furnace than the serviceman who'd told me he "knew enough to be dangerous", and was lamenting the poor guy he'd visited earlier who'd replaced one part, but found out he "also" had to replace a valve to get his hot water heater back up and running. Greg walked me through some troubleshooting that proved it wasn't the motherboard, and that he could do more by phone than the other company could do in person. Had I needed the circuit board, I could have gotten it that day. Had I needed Greg to come over that evening he could have. In my experience with Apollo and the competition, it became immediately clear why Apollo charges a fair price for their service calls, and why their competition is advertising "$50 off" and "Free Service Call with Paid Repair" offers. Trying to save a little almost cost me a lot. If you need a reputable, highly skilled engineer for heating issues or servicing, I'd highly recommend Apollo Heating. I can't guarantee they're all as good as Greg, but he's the kind of person I want when I need to reach out for help. He can explain things clearly and logically and definitely knows what he's talking about. read more

Upon a maintenance cleaning, tech broke a part inside the furnace. Two hours later, part was brought out and installed at a cost of $325 just for that part. After research the next day, I found the part listed from Lenox at under $50. Was supposed to have hot water tank serviced, opted out before any other issues. Extremely over charged for the part. an Appolo service call left us with a bill for $600+, a service contract for a NON-WORKING system, and advice further expense would be required to get the system working. Appolo stated unit was obsolete and the coil in the existing unit needed to be replaced ( an additional $2400 job). We looked elsewhere and found a competitor who would replace the entire indoor ahu for $ 2100 with a 10 year warranty and 1 year service contract. we asked Appolo for a refund on 6/27 and received a check for $59 (we which we never agreed to, and find entirely insufficient) six weeks later, only after making numerous follow-up calls, e-mails, and faxes. We believe Appolo's charges were excessive, their demeanor unprofessional, and the tech's primary interest being to sell us a service contract. We would never recommend Appolo to others. read more

My furnace went out at 5:30 am the day an arctic weather front moved in.This was not the first time.. it had happened several times over the last year and a half and to their credit apollo did manage to get it back on... see below for details. As they were opening in a couple of hours, I left a message and asked them to please call me back. I could have called on the emergency line however the last time i did that, it cost me $350.00.... when i asked what he found i got a shoulder shrug. " I turned it off and back on and it's working now but i don't know why it happened." Frankly that's about all their "service" team is capable of.Hint here... save yourself a lot of money and try this trick first. Sadly ,when we tried this trick this time the furnace locked itself out. . Well i never heard back from them that day. I tried calling after they opened and got put on hold. After 10 minutes i had to get back to work. I called sales around 2 .... they are the only ones who answer the phone... and expressed my displeasure. She was unnecessarily apologetic, she just sells them doesn't she. How in the world this company manages 2.5 stars is beyond me but i guess even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while. Run. The service is great and if Brian Hartman shows up at your door you are in good hands. I have had a couple of major issues in the past few years and Brian always explains what needs to be done, speaks to the manufacturers tech support to make sure the I's are dotted and T's are crossed, and gets you back on track asap. The only downside was with the most recent issue the phone system was not working and the on-call tech was not getting any on the weekend messages...which meant no heat for 2 days. Installed a new water heater. We thought it was over priced and the billing process is a total smoke screen. A lot of fuzzy math.

I called for service call on Friday at 5PM. My furnace had a bad ignitor and was replaced. I believe the $435 price to repair was excessive. The retail price on the ignitor is $61.36. The tech was only there 20-25 min. I understand this call was after hours but price qoutes from other heating companies were estimate in $340 range. The company never returned my call to discuss. Apollo installed our HVAC system so I contracted with them for service. The a/c unit is a Goodman and is a piece of crap: the least efficient unit currently on the market. It takes about 30 minutes to cool the house 2* F. The service technician who did the checkup a few months ago said it's working fine so I presume its just undersized. Could be the fault of the builder cutting corners. This is the third year of operation, it's had 2 checkups & had freon added both times. The furnace on the other hand (Also Goodman) works fine & can recover 6* F in 15 minutes. It also sits near the median efficiency wise. Had our service checkup yesterday, no problem. read more

Just a follow-up to a previous review. I told the owner of of the company that installed my AC system last week that Apollo Heating charged me $140 for the Y4609 universal capacitor that Apollo installed in my old system that had to be replaced. They then refused to take the part back and refund the amount I paid. Needless to say, he was shocked - he guessed that the capacitor should cost $10-$15, so I looked online and, sure enough, the price was $13.75 (and it could probably be bought for even less, but I didn't look further). This just reinforces my negative opinion of Apollo Heating in Schenectady, NY. I just wanted to put this out there so people are aware of the way these people do business. This is a total shit show! AVOID these losers! We are now in October and I have just gotten stood up for the 3rd, 4 hour time block (yes, 12 hours total) for air conditioning preventative maintenance. They have been cancelling since July and its now October!!! They have also told me that when/if they do show up for the next appointment it is unlikely that they will be able to service the furnace at the same time due emergency customers with "no heat" issues. Really? This is the time of year when you do service the furnace (not the air conditioner) to ensue that there a no eat issue does not occur. Idiots. Not only are service agreements with this company flat out lie, but the staff is not at all customer service oriented. Jen in service is a total bitch and she will put you on hold until you are disconnected. She must be the bosses wife and that's why it wouldn't matter if she missed a half day of work and pay. On March 8, 2019 our furnace stopped working so I called Appolo since we have a service contact. The tech who came told me up front that there was a $178.00 service call to come to the house. He discovered that a switch needed replacing but that he did not have it on his truck but had one that he could use for a temporary fix. As he left I gave him a check for the service call plus a $50. deposit on the part. He assured me that I would not have to pay a second service charge since he did not have the correct part and thus could not complete the job. During the week that followed I called Appolo several times and was told the part had been ordered and that they would call me when it came in. This week I was rather upset that a common switch was not available locally so I called and asked to speak to the Service Manager and was told he was on vacation. The woman I spoke to was very obliging and put me on hold and came back and said they could come that afternoon to replace it. I had a doctor's appt. thus it was not convenient. I found it interesting that no one had called to say the part was in and to schedule an appt. so she set me up for today 3/21/2019. When I asked the tech where he got the part he said he picked it up at a distributor in Clifton Park. I find it interesting that it took from 3/8 until 3/21 to get a part in a location not too far from Appolo in Schenectady. What really bothers me is that we had to pay another service charge plus the part and yet we have no idea what the switch cost as the Work order shows under Work order Items a date of 3/11/2019 (today is 3/21/2019) replace pressure SW $228.00. plus tax of $15.96. What county tax % is used and how much did the part actually cost? Needless to say I am not happy with our dealings with Appolo. I know you will probably tag our name with a mark but at least I had an opportunity to let you know that some internal housekeeping is necessary at Appolo if you wish to maintain a good reputation. Had after hours emergency, no heat from a furnace they installed. Was informed that the price of the service call would be $150, versus the normal daytime rate of $100 and agreed to the charge. After finding the problem, was told that the part had a 15% upcharge after hours and would cost $583 versus the "list" price of $502. The next day, after having the part number from the repair receipt, I found the "list" price was around $330, but was selling for $180-200. Attempted to get them to lower the charged price, but after failing to return multiple phone calls, they finally said no. Find another repair service. I understand labor costs often escalate after hours due to overtime pay, but parts prices aren't impacted by the time of day, particularly when the "list" price is inflated and the final price is almost triple what others charge. read more

The worst service I ever had on gas furnace repair. The issue is simple, gas blower down. Appolo sent 2 gentlemen spent 2.5 hrs but can not fixed the issue. They asked me to by the inducer package and pressure switch for $689+tax and $190+tax, respectively. I let them go and guess what? Amazon sell same parts for only $178 and $50. Do the math... I ordered the inducer and installed myself. At the end I found they intentionally mixed the pressure switch inlet/outlet. I think they were not expecting I can DIY with such damn trick. Anyway, to sum up, I paid $200(waste of time/money anyway) for their service and $200 for the part. Fixed the issue by myself. If I go with Appolo, they will charge me $1000+. Not recommend their service. read more

Appolo installed the Lenox heating and air system in our home 20 years ago and among other issues installed a "Frankenstein" Lenox air conditioning system. It seems to be a blend of several Lenox models but the contents don't match any documented system (including the one called out on the nameplate). Perhaps it was the builder. When it came time to replace the furnace last year their sales staff gave my wife the "little lady" treatment and came in with a high quote. We wouldn't use them again. Check into other locally rated HVAC companies and one will stand out. read more

DON'T BUY THE "PRORITY" SERVICE AGREEMENT - the only priority they have is taking your money. I have had them tune up the furnace and AC a few times and the service was good - got the maintenance agreement because it wasn't much more than two services. However, they really screwed me this time. Bought the maintenance agreement in November and they couldn't get me in until middle of January. Between then, we decided to buy a new house. Apollo told me the agreement couldn't be transferred to the new house because it's different equipment - that wasn't obvious when I signed up for it but I guess it makes sense - however they sold it to me before without ever looking at the furnace of AC so it's also BS. Anyway, I decide to just get the furnace tuned-up for the new owner and at least get some value out of the $200+ I paid. Well...just got a call that they are canceling my appointment (in the middle of the appointment window) and want to reschedule to a time that we will already be gone. They said it can transfer to the new owner (like that helps me) - however the person buying the house works for a heating and cooling company and likely won't use them. So, wasted $200+ on the contract and the morning from work. I will never, ever use them again. read more

I give 1 star only because the techs were friendly. In the middle of December I had appolo come out to clean and tune up my 6 year old furnace. I had purchased a service agreement when I replaced my central air in July. The tech replaced my heat filter and humidifier filter for almost $100. Said everything was cleaned and checked out good. A couple days later I woke up to the inside of my windows being frozen, I called appolo the first thing the office said was there would be a service fee, I said check problem and if nothing they did fine. Same tech came back said he didn't notice there was no way to adjust humidity and the problem was his mistake. The office still insisted on payment.2 weeks later I didn't have heat, a different tech came out, he said the furnace was not cleaned and a $1000 motor was leaking which you noticed the moment you toke the furnace cover off. Luckily he said the motor was covered by warranty but I was charged $180 to submit paperwork.couple days later a 3rd tech had to come back for no heat said the condensation drains were clogged causing the motor to short out from moisture.10 days later back again for same moisture problem but said if it happened again he would custom make a drain and I would be charged. 2 weeks later with the same problem I called the competitor, their tech cleaned all the drains and a month later I've had no problems. read more
