They are a small private owned company so be patient with them especially during times of high demand for service , cuz everybody wants to be first and they do the best they can to accommodate everybody . Look no further for a competent heating and cooling company. 2 weeks ago, on a Tuesday afternoon, my furnace quit. The thermostat displayed 'call for service'. Obviously, a potentially serious problem during the middle of the winter. I checked Yelp 'Heating & Cooking' and saw nothing but 5 star reviews for J & S Heating and Cooling. I called and spoke to Kelsey who was very pleasant and knowledgeable. Kelsey asked me questions that helped diagnose the problem and assisted me in getting the furnace back on. Impressed, and grateful, I asked about scheduling a technician to clean the furnace and further investigate the problem. In the back of my mind I thought '2 weeks' - if I was lucky. Kelsey said she could schedule a technician for the next day (Wednesday afternoon)! During the technician's (Nick) maintenance routine, he discovered that the inducer assembly was failing and needed to be replaced. J & S ordered the part and had it expressed shipped. The installation was scheduled for Friday afternoon. This is the Friday that had wet snow and widespread power outages, plus a bitter cold Saturday forecast. Nick called me and told me had had completed the installation and performed preliminary tests - then the power went out. There was nothing more that he could do and he had another emergency appointment. We agreed that he should leave and hoped for the best. 5 hours later the power came on and the furnace was working perfectly. J&S, wanting to be thorough, scheduled a follow-up appointment for the next Wednesday morning. Nick, who had kept me informed every step of the way, reviewed the furnace diagnostics with me. J & S was responsive, helpful, and resolved my furnace issues despite difficult circumstances. Throughout this problem I felt that J & S had my best interests in mind. I truly do not like to post negative reviews on businesses but I can't recommend it because they never got back to me. They came to my home for an estimate. The owner was very nice and personable. He told me all about his daughter and how she lived in Brooklyn. I gave him some advice because I'm from Brooklyn and worked in the area where she currently lives. He seemed very knowledgeable about what I wanted done. He told me that they were very busy and that sometimes they take a while to get back with numbers for estimates. He was the 2nd company to come to give me an estimate. I like what he said and what he was planning to do. I had planned to go with his company as long as the price wasn't too much over the next estimate. A few weeks go by and I hear nothing from his company. I call his office and leave them a message. They call me back and I explain to them that they never gave me the estimate. He says, sorry and that he will give me the number within 2 days. I never heard from them again. I really would have liked to give them the business, but it seems as if they didn't want it. They could have just been up front and said they don't want to do it and I wouldn't have been upset. BUT: what we got was excellent pre-service communication, thorough, professional service from polite, knowledgeable young technicians, at a prearranged price from which they did not deviate. No hucksterism or doubletalk, no up-selling. They were here almost two hours for a routine service. Took time to explain different variables, ducting, etc. BEST furnace service we ever had. We have nothing but positive things to say about J&S! We hired J&S to update our electric heat to furnace/central AC split system. It was a large job that required planning and communication. From the start, Stu came over quickly and explained his plans. The estimate was the most reasonable we got and it came quickly. He gave us options for what kinds of furnace and AC units to pick and pros/cons for each. Throughout the job, Stu, Austin and Duncan were extremely professional, courteous and personable. They cleaned up and moved everything back to it's place at the end of each day. Julie was wonderful to work with as well, always available to answer questions.
