They catered our company lunch today and I cannot tell you how impressive it was that the meat was not fatty, it was juicy, and it was chopped appropriately for a variety of uses. Wow. I've been going to Aprisa for years, usually ordering the same thing, two breakfast tacos, each with a different meat, which was apparently the source of frustration. This morning when I attempted to order the usual, the lady straight up yelled at me that I could only get one meat. I could almost understand and sympathize with her position, but I'm not about to get yelled at for doing nothing wrong (and being a decent tipper no less). The breakfast tacos don't come in pairs, there's no requirement that they be the same meat. That felt personal and undeserved. While the service at this drive through was fast and the serving plentiful for the price, I found the burrito I ordered was lackluster. Beef was tough and dry, fillings unevenly distributed. All the hot sauce was at one end with the sour cream, unfortunately these were my last bites. Was neither offered nor given additional sauce. If you are into pseudo Mexican flavor and a big bite for the price this might be the spot for you. Personally won't be getting another to-go burrito from this spot. read more

We came to Apista for the first time today. The reviews looked solid and their website is clean. We arrived and placed our order of 2 carnitas tacos, 2 asada tacos, asada burrito and a side of rice and beans. The gentleman who took our order was very friendly and asked many questions to make sure the order was customized to our liking. There's an outside eating area with 5 or 6 picnic tables. Some of the tables were a little broken but still usable. We waited about 25 minutes for our food, seemed a little long but there were others there before us and you could see everyone was working. They let me know that my food was ready. I had to remind them that I ordered rice and beans, no big deal. We sat in the outdoor area and dug in. The carnitas tacos were ok, under seasoned for my taste and had no crispness to it. The asada tacos were also only ok. The meat was tender but, again, under seasoned. The asada burrito was good sized. The rice in the burrito was crunchy, under seasoned meat and really good guacamole. The side of rice and black beans was ok, nothing special. Obviously this establishment has a following as we saw many people coming and going while we were here. This is not the Mexican food I seek out or would come back to. read more

The Burrito Bar is the way to go when you want to feed a group of people ($13.50 per person). Super reasonably priced, comes with everything you need to please the pickiest eaters. (You can get breakfast catered for the same price, but I haven't tried that yet.) Mexican food housed in a former ocean container at an out-of-the way intersection is an invitation to try. The taste and feel is "authentic": not-mainstream like Chipotle, not a #2 taco platter with amigo chips like something you'd find in Beaverton, and not up and coming chef, bus your own dishes Portland fusion. The torta bread comes from Woodburn, an area known for incredible Mexican food. Maybe from a Mexican bakery, the taste is difficult to replicate. An excellent sandwich, but somewhat difficult to eat clean. I opted for the veggie, I'm sure one of the meats provides even more flavor. The breakfast taco for $2.95 is ample and delicious. A SUGGESTION for the owner: the nice lady asked us about six questions when we ordered the taco: pinto or refried beans, mild, medium, or hot sauce, do you want lettuce, etc. Just sell it in the way you think it tastes best and the customer can opt out of certain ingredients. When she was about to go through the list of questions again for the torta I just said "the same as the taco." Fewer questions will reduce the wait time in line. I consider this place a little gem with decent parking and good outside (but no inside) seating. read more

I'm here because of the 4 star ratings. But I'm providing a 3 because it was average/good not great. I had a soggy torta (sandwich) and the taco salad bowl was soggy, too. I suspect that was because they didn't use a slotted spoon when they put the beans on both. Couldn't pick up the sandwich it was so mushy. The hot salsa was thick and had a nice smoky flavor. And the guacamole was very good. The chips are homemade although quite different from what I've had. Different texture but good. So, perhaps a second trip will get me to raise the rating ; after all, I would like to try the tacos. We'll see. Now, this place offers outdoor eating at some picnic tables - and there is a covered "shelter" but it smelled of urine to be very honest. Unfortunately the homeless in the area have few options and I think this shelter affords them some privacy. Sad but true. read more

This is my second visit in about three weeks, and while this place has fantastic food, the customer service on both trips has left something to be desired. My previous visit I ordered a quesadilla, and after waiting 20 minutes during which people that had ordered after me were getting their orders, I went up to the window to find out what was going on. It turned out their printer broke, so my ticket didn't get printed to be made up. They were good enough to give me a filled-up punchcard (12 visits and your 13th visit is free, so it had 12 punches in it; keep this in mind), but it messed me up on being able to eat lunch between errands and appointments. Just this weekend I was in the area and figured it'd be a good use of that punchcard, so I went through the drive-thru, where I was told (via the speaker) to come to the window to place my order. There's no menu at the window, so luckily since it was just me I only had the one thing to remember and thankfully the guy taking my order walked through all the other options. When I went to pay, I handed him the punchcard, he punched a 13th hole in it (which was to indicate that it was my 13th visit and therefore my meal should be free), handed it back to me and told me my total was $8.something. I said this should be free because the punchcard was full, and he told me I could use it next time. I was pissed and should have driven off, but handed him my credit card anyway and figured I'd just give the punchcard to somebody else that needed it more than I did. My order was readied quickly but was handed to me by someone else, and when he said, "oh yeah you wanted a water right?" I went ahead and asked him about the punchcard again and explained why I had it and that it was the only reason I'd come in. He asked if I'd paid on a card and had the transaction completely voided. Bottom line here is that the food really is great, high quality and the portion sizes are quite generous, but I had two poor service experiences in a row. :-/ read more

I really like this place made out of a steel shipping container. This ain't no Taco Bell. Fresh ingredients and made to order. There is I walk up window, a drive-through and two areas with picnic tables, one is covered. Street parking for the most part but the area is not that busy so that shouldn't be a problem. Since everything is made to order it may take a little longer but it's worth it. It's perfect for those mornings when you're heading out of town to go do something for a quick breakfast on the go. They make their own taco shells, salsas and sauces. Their prices are reasonable too. Wonderful customer service and everyone here is always happy. They even have music in the drive-through! I drove past this place heading towards Voodoo Donuts and I was so intrigued by the paintings outside that I just knew I had to come back. I drove 30 minutes retracing my steps just to find it and I wish I would've just kept driving. First let me say that their ingredients are SUPER fresh and their meat is juicy and flavorful. But, unfortunately I have to judge it overall. I'm a huge fan of chips and salsa, so I was really looking for that authentic taste that Mexican restaurants use to reel you in with these two items in particular. I didn't get that, in fact what I got was something like fried pita chips and puréed overly spicy "salsa" if that's what they're calling it. That was definitely a let down! My boyfriends steak quesadilla was good though, I mean he only got cheese and meat but like I said earlier their meat is juicy and flavorful. I was contacted by the owner, Kirk asking if I'd give them another try which in my opinion says a lot about the quality of food this restaurant offers. I was very impressed with his professionalism and kindness. I returned to Aprisa and tried the steak burrito with the medium salsa (tomatillo) and the baja sour cream. The meat was tender and well spiced, tortilla fresh and the beans were perfect. The only thing different next time is not include lettuce. The burrito was so huge I couldn't finish it all in one sitting so the next day the lettuce made my left overs kind of funky. Having come from Los Angeles and having a very refined palate, this place is legit. Got the pollo burrito bowl with salsa verde. Typically, I have to use tons of lime to make most Mexican food flavorful, but this one was flavorful right out of the gate. The portion size is big enough to fill me up having only eaten half. You ever find a treat that you love and when the restaurant carrying it goes out of business, you can't find it anywhere else? Years ago - many years ago - there was a Mexican restaurant named Apatzingan in Burien, WA that carried a creamy horchata that was incredibly good. It was different than most other horchatas (that typically have a cinnamon flavor). Well, Apatzingan disappeared, and I had resigned myself that I would never experience that style of horchata again. That is, up until this week when I pulled up to coral-colored Aprisa for lunch. Lo and behold, here I found my beloved horchata. Aprisa is a drive-through, not a restaurant, though there is a canopy-covered picnic table or two on the corner of the property. This was the first time I've been through a drive through and they had a live image of the person taking my order. I don't know if they had a camera pointed at me and could see my mug. So in addition to the horchata, I wanted a torta (sandwich) but they were out of torta bread, so I went with a chicken burrito and a side of "Krustos". I love how all food is stamped "Aprisa". And I mean everything; each and every chip in the Krustos order was stamped! The burrito was very good. In addition to the spicy charred Cajun/Southwest-style chicken, the burrito contained white rice, pinto beans, grilled onions and tiny bits of lettuce. It was huge, and for the price, a great deal. JP wondered about the dessert's name "Krustos". When he snacked on them at home, he thought they were buñuelos. The Krustos/ buñuelos are tortilla chips drizzled with something sweet (maple syrup or honey?) and served with a most excellent almond dip (that really does contain sliced almonds). The krustos are a little messy to eat because of the syrup, but oh they are good! read more

I'm a fan. Good food, friendly service, no nonsense. I do have to admit that I'm not a huge fan of the tortilla chips, though. They're literally tortillas cut into strips, and they are very dense and pretty flavor-less. I prefer light tortilla chips, and a bit of lime and salt goes a long way. Food was OK. Kids liked their burritos, shrimp tacos were not very good. I ordered this from Amazon, and did not go to the restaurant. When we received our order, 3/4 burritos were wrong and and 2 items we ordered were missing (including missing items that involve an extra charge). Amazon kindly placed a second order for the missing items. I know that an incorrect order is not the end of the world, but I kept thinking that if they spent less time branding their name on every burrito and every individual tortilla chip, they may be able to get it right. Update: After my initial review, the owner kindly offered to make it better by comping a new order. This was very generous and we tried again. This time the order was right. Portions were large. We still didn't care for the food and won't be back but appreciate a business owner willing to make his customers happy. read more

A dainty restaurant in an old renovated storage pod, this place packs the burrito full to ensure you are leaving with a satisfyingly big burrito. I always get the vegan option for no other reason other than that it's delicious and the quality of the ingredients are just great. It's probably just me, so don't read too much into it. Okay....I've been going here since it opened around 9 years ago. I've always loved it! I'm a burrito fan! I work super close by, so it's an easy habit to frequent Aprisa! However, recently, in the last 4 months or so, I have found that the grilled veggie burrito is not my favorite choice anymore. I've ordered the breakfast burrito many times before, but the last few times I've either picked it apart to make it work (super messy to do) or tossed the rest. Now, I choose not to have it made with eggs or cheese, so it is a modified burrito. I even gave it a month before I returned. I love this place, and I hate wasting food! Today I ordered the burrito again with grilled veggies, but I asked them to remove the peppers, because the last two times I've noticed the onions and peppers were too crunchy and under cooked. This gives it an off flavor overall. It still came with carrots which is normally okay, but these too were waaaaay crunchy! So I ended up again, making it work by dissecting the burrito, and getting rid of the debris. Thank goodness for the guacamole and potatoes! The roasted tomato salsa also helped. Otherwise, this would've been my last breakfast burrito. I will go back eventually, just not for a while. I've talked to a co-worker of mine, and she agrees with me when I say, I think there's something different Aprisa! is doing that is changing the flavors. She says the meat is seasoned with something different than what they used to use, and it's not very flavorful now. Maybe it's a different chef? Different Seasonings? I don't see Pedro there very often anymore.....help! I miss loving this place! read more

This place is okay. Sometimes it's really good, sometimes it's just meh. Consistency isn't their strong suit, but it'll do in a pinch when I'm at work and not looking forward to what I brought for lunch. It would be cool if they would cut their peppers smaller. Sometimes I get chunks that are basically raw because they're too big to cook with the other pepper and onion chunks. The people are nice though! read more

We always drive by this place and today we finally decided to check it out. We were surprised to be greeted with a little drive through establishment. We got the tacos and the crunchy hard taco was amazing. The shell was tasty and crunchy and better than any hard tacos I've tried in a long long time! My review is for their stand (food cart?) in Old Town / Chinatown. It's across the street from work, so it gets high stars just for being so convenient. Regardless of convenience, it gets full stars just for being so delicious. The guys working there are great and super friendly. I call this place Chipotle without the fear of e-coli. ;o) One of my co-workers is a Latina and she goes over several times a week just for their chips. I love their guacamole.
