I've seen some other reviews complaining about the neighborhood. Yeah, you're in North Anchorage next to a dead mall, a trailer park, and Home Depot, and it kind of feels like an industrial wasteland, but I didn't feel the least bit unsafe in any way in more than a week of staying here. We got a room with two queen beds. The room was clean and comfortable. There's a kitchenette and a table and chairs, which is nice considering how long we were staying. The room was quiet and contemporary and the beds comfortable. The staff has been super friendly and helpful in every interaction, and the security glass in the lobby I saw mentioned in some other reviews was actually removed during our stay. My only real beef is that we seem to have been in one of two rooms in the whole place where the only thing we can see out the window is other windows. That's not great but not at all a dealbreaker. read more

I visited a friend staying here 2 separate times. While a handsome building from the outside I was very alarmed & uncomfortable walking into the lobby. Felt like a prison.The 'check-in desk' was grossly impersonal, being separated by a ceiling high glass window with a small hole for communications. NOT welcoming at all. The floors & rooms were ok, clean & overall drab. I am uncertain why this hotel operates in this manner. read more

I only interacted with one staff member. She checked me in and out. She was very friendly and helpful. The room I stayed in was clean. I did not use the kitchenette in any way, but it would be helpful for longer stays. It's not in a great location. There was often someone smoking at the side door closest to my room. No one did anything concerning as I walked by, but I found myself going through the front door exclusively to feel safer. read more

The neighborhood is a little sketchy. It's right next to an abandoned shopping mall about 10 minutes from downtown. This hotel brand requires key access to get into hallways to rooms which is a plus. The front desk people are not around much, which is a con. We were given a room that was already occupied. The room had suitcases and personal items all over. We shut the door immediately and told the maid cleaning near by. By the time we got back downstairs we were give a new room. The elevator and the hallways smell weird and unclean. The bedding was uncomfortable instead of a mattress pad they used a blanket and a flat sheets. This hot mess caused a very uncomfortable situation. The blanket kept getting balled up and bunched. I was sleeping on a lumpy blanket. The top cover was 2 flat sheets with a blanket in between which also got balled up. I spent more time tossing and turning due to the weird sheet situation, it wasn't restful. On our last evening we got called by the front desk asking me to come down and sign some papers. Apparently when the fiasco happened with the double booked room my sign in paper work was misplaced. I asked the front desk person to come to my room. Very odd situation. read more

This place is well maintained, clean, quiet, rates are competitive, staff is friendly and knowledgeable, rooms are well furnished, all i need and wanted in a hotel is here. The management is always visible and making sure that guests are well taken care off. When it comes to house keeping staff is always willing to go the extra mile, Mercedes is always around to make sure we get everything we need, this place is definitelly the very best in hospitallity. No complaints whatsoever. read more

Have to stay here for work, my coworker had bedbugs, they have no do not disturb signs and despite my efforts to opt out of housekeeping, they've woken me up, entered my room, rearranged my stuff, touched all my things, RIGHT AFTER I talked to housekeeping THAT morning and asked the front desk to remove me from their housekeeping list. The front desk all just stared at me and proceeded to print out a misspelled sign to put on my door. If I didn't HAVE to stay here for work I would leave. But unfortunately my company has no other housing option for me to take. read more

Bed Bugs!!!! Despite what the manager said, which was wrong and an asshole thing to say, there is BED BUGS IN EVERY ROOM WE MOVED TO. READ THE REVIEWS, YOU WILL SEE MORE PEOPLE SAYING THEY FOUND BED BUGS TOO!!!!! Manager was rude and smelled real bad, he refused to pay for the laundry that got infested by this hotel for a 2nd time. There is a few good workers who was not surprised to hear about the bed begs. Not saying all the workers were as rude as the manager. He lied saying that hasn't happened, it had happened a month prior to us finding those BED BUGS. Do not recommend! read more

Overall this was an ok place to stay, we were looking for a place to sleep and not much else and it met that expectation. Our room was rather musty, it smelled like wet dog but wasn't too unbearable that we had to ask to move rooms, we just opened the window every once in a while to air it out. The front desk hours are also weird, I've never been to a hotel that has a front desk that closes, thankfully we had read the insert in the room about having everything ready for checkout when we checked in so that we knew it was ok to leave with no one at the desk. Maybe a heads up verbally at check in would be nice. For what we paid I was hoping for slightly higher quality but overall it was a bed and a place to stay read more

The website will tell you this is a modern boutique, but it is not. The rooms were clean but very bare with little to no amenities. It is much farther from downtown than they would have you believe. My biggest issue with this hotel though was in that I did not feel safe staying here. Yes, there is a security guard on staff at night, and you need your key to get in the hotel, but I am thinking because there is a lot of crime/ homeless in the area? When I arrived (late check in after a flight), there were two guests in the lobby in a yelling match with the security guard about a booking discrepancy. Once that ended, the security guard was able to get us checked in, and was friendly. The next day I received a call that I was late checking out (which was weird because I booked two nights). After explaining that I booked through a third party app and stating that I did in fact have another night, they were able to resolve the issue. It just seems like they have management issues and the employees do not know how to handle miscommunications, which happened frequently while we were there. I will not stay at the Aptel again. I would rather pay more to be in a safer and better equipped hotel. read more

I agree with other reviews that this hotel is not in downtown (it's in the Fairview area) but I actually liked this. It was very quiet and it's not hard to get there either. The room itself was more than adequate. Very clean and large (both the bedroom area and the kitchen area). Beds are very comfy. The bathroom was also huge and pristine! The kitchen is a full kitchen but no cooking essentials, we used the refrigerator, microwave and coffee maker. The Lodge Coffee was excellent. There was lots of parking and it is very secure. It is near the Northway mall (with a handy supermarket (Carrs)) and Subway and a Burger King nearby as well. The staff was very friendly. There is a washer and dryer area available as well. Just make sure you don't put your phone next to your room card it demagnetizes it. Overall, great experience. read more

The hotel was clean, the room was nicely equipped with comfortable beds, a mini kitchen and a clean and updated bathroom design. We used this as a place to essentially clean up and sleep each night before long fun-filled AK activities. We appreciated being able to easily change the heat/cooling. Plenty of parking. read more

We were traveling from California to Alaska, having booked Aptel Studio Hotel 2 months before the trip, this was supposed to be our first stop for an one week long trip but these guys cancelled on us without any prior communication. We tried to talk to supervisor but hotel gaurd told us that manager has told us how to handle these kind of situations insisting he can not call her. Finally, when he called the manager, she replied that they can not ask you to call someone in the middle of the night and sounded ridiculously arrogant. I wish there was an option of giving 0 star on Yelp. read more

We have stayed at the Aptel Studio before and again was pleased with the property and the staff. Lynessa, the manager was helpful in extending our reservation. Lynn, Natalie and Ray, the front line staff were pleasant and friendly. Enjoyed have the larger kitchen and table for eating in. Would be nice to have mini kitchen items in the unit. (Dishes, silverware, pots and pans). Will book this hotel again in the future. read more

We stayed here for the Anchorage leg of our trip. At a little over $100 a night, price is reasonable. The rooms are fairly large. There is a kitchenette with a small refrigerator, electric stove, microwave, and decent size sink. There weren't any silverware, plates, or bowls though. The room was clean and there were blackout curtains which are essential to block out the daylight since it never completely gets dark in Alaska in the summer. I have a bad back and usually wake up with back pain, but not with this bed, so the mattress was comfortable. I would definitely stay here again. read more

I booked 2 rooms for 3 people on Jan 29 for Aug 5 to Aug 7th. At 8pm on Aug 3rd while we were in Denali National park I received an email that the manager cancelled our rooms due to over booking. Leaving us stranded as every hotel in Anchorage was booked out. I guess booking over 6 months in advance they couldn't manage our booking. It was a total embarrassment to let our overseas guest see how poor the service is. read more

We stayed for ten nights back towards the end of September/beginning of October. I think there were two employees the whole time who weren't completely rude and unhelpful. When we checked in, the girl handed us our key and said, "There you go." and that was it. Didn't even tell us how to get to our room. Didn't offer to tell us anything at all. The young man at the front counter during the day was the only consistently friendly employee. The rooms and grounds are clean and in good condition but it's a new building so they'd better be. The amenities are, for the most part, horrendous. I knew there'd be no cookware or flatware but what I didn't know was that you only get housekeeping after a week of being there. What if I'm not there for a week? But housekeeping didn't come in after a week. We had to call and remind them that they're supposed to give us housekeeping. They showed up on the eighth day. When you check in you sign a paper saying that housekeeping IS NOT available until you've been there a week so don't ask for new towels, TP, etc., until that time. That's seriously lame and unheard of. Additionally, you're also asked to sign a paper saying that items that are left in the room and disappear are not the responsibility of the hotel. So basically they get your permission for them to steal from you. Thankfully it didn't happen. If you only need a room for a couple of days, it might be worth staying here, but any longer than that, don't waste your money. Pay a little bit more and go to a hotel that actually treats you like a guest instead of like a burden. read more
