I'll have to come back for a sandwich, this time I got a breakfast burrito which was great! A big size and helped us load up before the long day of beach activities. Definitely recommend if you're already in Seacliff and need a quick bite.

I was coming home from Monterey after getting the Tesla's tires replaced and as I pass Castroville, I thought about some BBQ for dinner. Central Texas was gone =!8^{ but there are 2 Q joints in Aptos. Those would be Sid's Smokehouse and Aptos St BBQ (ASB). I've eaten Q from both and even did a comparison years ago with a group of people on a Yosemite trip. I decided that whichever restaurant has the most left over came in second. That was Sid's on 2 occasions. Fast forward to now and I decided to get an equal portion of ribs, brisket and hot link from each. I knew that would be 2 meals worth because I wanted to try the Q fresh and as leftovers. I arrived at Sid's prior to lunch and checked out the clientele. Sid's had a couple people correctly spaced at the bar but no one was waiting for take-out. I was asked how I wanted my brisket, fatty, 50/50 or lean, nice touch. I opted for 50/50. A couple more patrons came in while my take-out was being prepped. My order came out relatively quickly and I was asked what kind of sauce I wanted. I went for the hot. I paid and went to ASB. There where people sitting outside plus a line for take-out. ASB has been out of their 831 link for a while, I don't recall if I have ever had a chance to taste one. I received my order and proceeded home. No one asked me what sauce I wanted, and both styles were in the container when I opened it. I put everything on the counter and went about work until dinner. Each order was packaged a little differently. Sid's placed the ribs in the take-out container with the sides cut up in little cups placed in the container and ASB wrapped everything in foil. Prior to my meal, I unwrapped everything and put it all in the take-out box with the lid down which went into the oven at 125° for 15 minutes. Both of these orders looked really good. I love sausage and immediately went for the hot link. Sid's was a coarse grind while ASB's was a traditional hot link. Both tasted good but the texture and flavor of the Sid's link was a winner for me. Next up was the ribs. Great smoke on both but Sid's was a little more moist than ASB's. The meat was tender and not too loose on the bone on both. Hard choice but I liked Sid's better. Now to the brisket, by which many judge BBQ. I guess I should have spread Sid's brisker out to get an even visual comparison between the 2. Sid's was cut more thinly and the fatty texture shouted out brisket to me. ASB's was good, but was more like tri-tip. Sid's again. Hmm, they seemed to have upped their game. As leftovers, the result was the same. Not a large margin, but subject to individual tastes. The cost of each order was basically pennies apart. The service and attitude were very good. I will order from each again. ASB is closer to my domicile. The final score, 5 stars for each. Nothing to fault them on and everything to praise them for. Great job Sid's and Aptos Street BBQ. read more

I just saw the most messed up thing happen here tonite and I have to write this because I can't allow myself or people to support this kind of Trump behavior to happen in my neighborhood. Well I witness the blond hair old chick bartender tell, probably the only darkest fool at the bar to move because he was in "someone's seat" I saw there was a couple there earlier but they went to play at some machine for most of the time and there were two shots out ready to be taken but if the couple were really wanting to take those shots they would have already taken them the moment they got them. All of a sudden I saw two guy sit down and they were asked to move because they were in "somebody's seats." I thought that was complete bull that she asked them to do that. I mean if you're able to grab a free stool at a bar then it's fair game? right!. It was a pretty busy friday nite and if you're able to sit down at a bar man you take it unless you or your lady or something. Then the chick from the couple who had their seats stolen starts calling these guys in her seats Saudis which they then clarified as Mexicans. On top of that the man of the chicks man was getting all up in their face. where was that Bouncer? Taking mexican fools out. how lame! I saw in one night both of these guys get treated like sh!t from the employees and the he was asked to be moved by the bartender. The guys tried backing away but then that girls man got involved it almost fell into a fight and it was just a mess over some girl who felt privileged because these Saudi looking fools took her seat. Im not coming back because just witnessing that was ruined my vibe. read more

Get the tri tip sandwich with garlic bread and mashed potato. Spicy sauce got kicked up another notch since last time. Nice! Try adding some of the spicy sauce given with the sandwich to the mashed potato. What?! Sounds weird, but some may or may not like it. There was live blues music when we went . Although, we were taking out, it was nice to kick back and listen to some blues. There are a few other joints in the area that serve BBQ. This place has them beat with the tri-tip. Tri tip is there most popular item, so they definitely try to have plenty to dish out. Meat was juicy and tender, and the bread was soft and delicious. During our trip to Santa Cruz, my wife and I had the pleasure of dining at Aptos BBQ. The restaurant's location adds to its charm, nestled in a cool, fun, laid-back spot that perfectly complements the delicious food and friendly atmosphere. I ordered the chicken plate, and my wife got the brisket plate. Both dishes were absolutely delicious. The chicken was tender, juicy, and bursting with flavor, while the brisket was perfectly cooked. So in Santa Cruz we have Coles BBQ getting best of Santa Cruz for 2010...just ridiculous. Way to go Santa Cruz! I have been to Aptos st BBQ a few times and it's ok....certainly better than Coles or Bruno's. The meat is the only thing I can recommend. The sides are just pedestrian. This is basic BBQ and it's done well but lets not get too excited ok. I've never understood BBQ in CA trying to recreate "Texas Style". It's like pit masters in CA are admitting they don't know jack about slowcookin so they'll just imitate another regions BBQ. Try some originality and come up with your own flavors. read more

Tried another bbq place (which I will not name) because we forgot the name and location of Aptos Street bbq (ok it had been a couple of months since we were here). My bad- learned my lesson. OMG- the food here is so good, fresh, actually smoked well and long enough. Note: you can tell its the 'real deal' like Aptos St. BBQ when there is a smoker outside and its being used. Dining room is pretty basic, I liked the checked table cloths. Service is prompt and pleasant. The potatoe salad is to die for. Clearly the food sold here is made here and there are recipes involved. Our visit to Aptos was a mix of positives and areas for improvement. While cleanliness could have been better with our table being a bit dirty, the staff were exceptional, accommodating all our requests. The aesthetic didn't quite fit our taste, but the highlight was definitely the free jazz band performance, which added a delightful touch to our evening. I've been coming here for years bbq is great. The meats are tender , flavorful and juicy. Unfortunately it's not the whole package. The sides need some help. Potato salad is bland , beans need more flavor and the coleslaw taste like watered down mayo. The restaurant is clean has ample seating inside and out and service was fast and friendly. All in all I know it's a bbq spot which they do good but maybe just ordering the meat until they vamp up there flavor in the sides would be your best bet. read more

The beer selection here was just phenomenal! Really, I am just blown away. They have some beer here that I haven't seen anywhere else in Aptos. Rare Barrel?! Really?! Sign me up! Yummy BBQ. A lot of beers to chose from on tap and taste at beer counter. Super child friendly and great re-vamp for sitting outside. Every morning I drive by and smell the meat being smoked it makes my mouth water. My daughter in the back seat always comments when we drive by, mmmmmm that smell. Most nights I CRAVE Aptos Street BBQ. I think they put drugs in their BBQ sauce because it's absolutely amazing! My husband loves them too and he's super picky about what he eats. I usually get the BBQ Chicken sandwich but the Pulled Pork Sandwich is to die for too. The place is small and super down-home. Amazing and authenticate BBQ. Don't miss the ribs - meaty and moist, with just the right amount of sauce. Try the spicy or the original sauce on the side. Wow what a disappointment. After a $3 tip this was $31 on door dash. I've had appetizers with more food. The brisket was 30% fat, 20% dry bits. Two freaking ribs that were tiny and dry. The bread was barely heated and soggy. The Mac n cheese was cold and trash. The potato salad has bbq sauce in it? I also had really bad stomach problems later and from reading some of the reviews I'm not alone. 100% never again. read more

Each time I go I'm disappointed with the food. On one visit the meat was a large piece of fat covered in sauce. My son won't go again. They did replace the meal. The crazy thing is, we never tried anything else on the menu. We went for the first time late in our freshman year, got a dinner combo (3 different meats and a side) and never switched up. For reference, this was our order for the following 3 years at UCSC: Combination, choose (3): BBQ Chicken, Beef Ribs, Hot Links and Macaroni Salad as the side I don't recall the total, but back then (late 90s-early 2000) I believe a 20 covered it. The folks that worked there are always awesome and they were generous with the student population. I would certainly recommend this establishment to anyone looking for a filling meal at a good price. The dining area is small, but quite nice and fairly quiet as most orders are to-go. I'd also urge you to consider ordering an array of different items to see what you like; from what I heard, they make a pretty good cheese burger too

Not only does it have my favorite breakfast burrito, but the staff are all so so so nice. It is the perfect ambiance - casual, fun, just incredible vibes. Everything I've ever ordered has been divine. We live about an hour away but always make a trip out for brunch.

This spot has been around for years, and when my boys were younger, we would come here after a day at the beach. It has gone through a few owners over the years, but the improvements they've made are awesome. The place still has that classic beach-town chill--lots of laughter, good food, and people enjoying life. Parking? Let's just say Santa Cruz and parking have never exactly been best friends. But once you get inside, you have the choice of indoor or outdoor seating, and it's worth the effort. One of my favorite things about this place is the history. For years, a group of local fishermen have been coming here. Two of them are still regulars, sitting around telling fish stories. And if you know fishermen, you know those stories have probably gotten a little bigger every year. My wife and I split the all-meat omelette, and it was delicious. They also do a fantastic job with the hash browns--crispy, hearty, and exactly what you want with breakfast. The coffee deserves its own paragraph. Bold, flavorful, and strong enough to make you believe you can conquer the day. Our server was wonderful. She has worked here since graduating from high school, and you could tell she genuinely cared about taking care of people. Friendly, positive, helpful, and the kind of service that makes you want to come back. There's a wonderful selection of food, but honestly, part of the experience is simply being there. You can almost feel the decades of stories in the walls--families, fishermen, beach days, laughter, and countless cups of coffee. This isn't just a place to grab breakfast. It's a place where Santa Cruz history is still being served--one omelette, one cup of coffee, and one slightly exaggerated fish story at a time. I think you can make the wrong choice on your 1st/2nd/3rd visit depending on your taste, but I also think you should come back and you'll absolutely find something that 100% tickles your pickle. I've tried most of their hot sandwiches: - Noni's Pesto Chicken: this is one of my favorite sandwiches of all time. It's not very complex but for some reason the combination of flavors just is *chefs kiss*. 5* for this alone, don't fight me - Surf City Philly: can be surprisingly spicy, heavy but SO good. This is my third favorite. - Chicken Cowabunga: not that great, would skip, but I also have a whole website on fried chicken sandwich rankings so I'm picky - Vulcan Mind Melt: sounds so good on paper but it's just heavy. I would skip - Crispy Cod Wrap: I've had a bite or two of this and I thought it was pretty good but not that memorable - Pork Belly Banh Mi: this was good, and I don't usually like pork belly - Chipotle Chicken Club: also kinda heavy but I really enjoyed this! This is my second favorite. - Cubano: not particularly memorable Not a sandwich but Beer Barnacles: ugh I enjoyed this more often than I should have, sorry not sorry. 5*

I believe it is made fresh for every order so it can be a bit of a wait, but totally worth it. The aguachile is delicious and you can also choose if you want no spice, mild, or spicy. It comes with a few tostadas, but they charge if you want extra. They make agua fresca as well, but they had ran out this last time. The service is okay, it can definitely be improved. There is indoor and outdoor seating available. There is some street parking available and I believe a parking lot in the back. Definitely worth a try!

If when ordering, you state "a small hot vanilla latte and whole milk is fine", the young girl will still ask you, "You want a latte? What size? Hot or iced? What milk?" Please listen the first time! I understand needing clarification, and that's fine- but when you have to do it on everything we order??? It takes 15 minutes to place a food and drink order only for half the time the food to come out incorrectly either way. We've come to this place more than once and the same issue happens with ordering food too. Anyone else?
