Purchased item. Received in good time. Reviewed the item on Aquarium Co-Op's store page. Item didnt meet all the praise that Cory gave it. Review was removed. During a live stream I gave Cory $5 Superchat to know why the review was removed despite saying he never removes reviews (He may not himself but someone sure does). He acknowledged the $5 and ignored the question and moved on. I called the store the next day and wanted to know why the question was ignored but he still took the $5. Employee asked me what the youtube account name was and I gave it so they could find out why Cory didnt answer. The response was me being banned from the channel. I really like the great customer service that was provided to me. I ordered some fish supplies online but I never got it. Candi was kind enough to work with me and we were able to resolved the issue. The package was delivered to the wrong house and a gentleman was kind enough to drop it off two days ago. Candi was very understanding and didn't make me feel bad about the situation. for starters: this is not a consumer cooperative. you cannot purchase a share. it's a privately-owned business that is confusingly branded as a "co-op". i've spent a few weeks reading and watching as much as i can on planted tanks and was excited to visit this store, especially after seeing so many great videos put out by them. their websites even proclaim "We'll be sure to get to know you and your aquarium personally with our small, tight knit team. This helps us to support you better with all of your aquatic decisions" & "We are a store solely dedicated to Planted Community Fish Aquariums". perfect! i hopped on the E downtown and then walked (make sure to take 205th, it has sidewalks!) however, it didn't take long after i entered the store before any excitement i had was gone. the employee that opened the door asked if i had questions, and when i gave a brief disclaimer about being a beginner and wanting to check out some fish before i bought some plants for my new tank i'm setting up. almost instantly the employee became cold and walked off. the same employee came up to me three or four times as i was walking along the fish wall and asked if i had questions, which i did, but this person became visibly annoyed with me every time i asked something and started interrupting and snapping at me. i really didn't get any information out of them because they really didn't seem to want to help, e.g., when i was told "that plant needs root tabs" i asked "if i choose a decent soil in a dirted aquarium, do you think i'd still need tabs?" and they replied, stonedfaced "i really have no idea, that's on you." at this point i spoke up and said, "hey, i'm just excited. i've watched a lot of videos and done a lot of reading, and i was hoping i could come in here today and have a conversation with a human being about this for the first time. i actually only came here because the videos on your channel were so helpful, so i'm sorry i have so many questions." at this point, i should have just left (or, asked that the other employee help me), but i let this employee know that i was ready to place my plant/snail order. every plant i picked out or had a clarifying question about was met with unhelpful condescension, e.g. i asked if a 'red' cultivar was any more challenging than the 'green', i.e., co2 injections, ph, light, whatever. the employee stared at me and then was like "um, they both have green labels. if you pay attention, you can see we have a sign that says green labels mean 'easy'" well, last i checked, the natural world doesn't arrange itself into neat bands of difficulty, it's a continuum. is this plant a "true green" & SUPER easy, or more of a "chartreuse" that's "easy" but almost "intermediate"? i'll have to find out on my own, i guess. i went in excited and ready to learn (AND SPEND) and i left deflated and bummed out. THANKFULLY, the 373 goes from aurora/200th RIGHT to roosevelt/65th and i decided to check out AQUARIUM ZEN . holy moly, y'all! first of all, they keep the door open so it's not a friggin sweatbox. secondly, it's gorgeous shop filled with planted tanks of every sort and the staff were SUPER welcoming and willing to have the sort of workshopping/brainstorming conversations that i'm used to having at plant shops like Indoor Sun Shoppe. i left with a few new plants, a bunch of new ideas, way fewer questions, and a renewed feeling of excitement about this learning experience. i stupidly took a bus 90 minutes both ways & spent money here, and that's on me. but, i'm a customer service industry lifer; i know everyone has bad days, but this was straight-up embarrassing behavior and really poor service. did i leave satisfied? no. delighted? no. did i feel welcome? no. hobby communities need fresh members to thrive & the more active members the better crowdsourced learning, general supply availability & pricing will be for everyone! i don't understand the gatekeeping behavior i experienced here. it was my first and last visit to this shop and i'll bring it up whenever i can if i think it will save a bright-eyed beginner the displeasure of an experience like this. read more

As my love for the hobby grows and my significant other got into it we've been to co-op along with many other local fish stores. (Co-op is the closest so it tends to be the one we frequent the most) They are definitely one of the cleanest stores we've been too with a wide variety of decorations, plants, nano fish, and food variations. Fish are well taken care of and I haven't had one fish from here die in one of our tanks. They offer free water testing if you bring a sample and can tell you a specifications for certain fish/shrimp. As for customer service I can speak a bit more to this. They know their stuff. It may be hard to get help when they are packed (like during big holiday sales) but on any other day/weekend the staff is amazing. Ali is the queen when it comes to what to feed fish and variations. I think this is the big trade off when you compare a lfs to chain stores. The employees are knowledgeable and seem to love what they do, but you need to be patient if the store is packed during a giant sale! read more

Ordered a couple of times so far including their new sponge filter along with several plants. Plants are thriving and have tripled in size within 4 weeks. I plan to visit the store when I get the chance, but for now I would give their website and shipping at 10/10. Their youtube channels and podcasts have been very helpful. Went there for the first time last weekend and was amazed at not only their healthy, cleanliness of aquariums and fish but their overall selection. We had three people help us and all 3 went above and beyond! They answered all our questions and were patient and thorough. After a less than adequate experience at our local fish shop we were excited to bring home our new aquarium, entire setup including plants and next weekend our fish! I will only go here for any future needs, and enjoyed recently watching the informative YouTube videos which I've learned a ton from. I love this shop! The videos they post are super informative and helps the amateur hobbyist immensely. I especially enjoy the hands-on reviews of products. Their shop is clean and the employees are super knowledgeable. Cory's recent advice to use Ick-X was on point. I had Ich in a tank with 2 Asian stone cats, 2 pygmy corys, three Amano shrimp, snails, and 8 lampeye killifish. I was terrified I would loss the shrimp and the snails but so far, after four days of treatment, nothing has been lost. Thanks for recommending a good product. read more

So I'm reading some of these reviews and there's one in particular that makes me think this person wasn't actual AT THE AQUARIUM CO-OP! Perhaps it was another super small, super clean, super well stocked shop on MARS? Not only are the good folks here knowledgeable, they're nice too. My questions are answered, products are suggested - whether I buy them or not is up to me. I always leave with something in the bag that I feel good about getting! Cory's videos aside -- what a treasure trove of info -- it's worth the drive to me and it's part of my new "Sunday FUN DAY Schedule"! Edited to add: the only thing that could really improve this place is tons more room and tanks and stuff and a legit taco truck parked outside. I placed an online order and was notified via email later that day my transaction was marked as being fraudulent and needed to reply with a photocopy of my driver's license along with a piece of mail with my address before they mailed my purchase. In times of internet scammers everywhere I replied saying I wasn't comfortable sharing that information. I also stated, since I paid with PayPal and not only did they approved of the purchase my bank also approved the purchase so there is no fraud involved and I would also be the first to be informed if so. I soon received an email from them saying how when they get a fraud notification (and where exactly they get this???) it is rare that it is not fraud. I am an honest, law abiding, hard working person. Two different financial institutions approved my transaction AND I replied to email account associated with said institutions and was told I am a criminal. This place is a joke. I found a better place to spend my money since. read more

Between the YouTube channel and the superior quality of their aquarium plants and products, I couldn't begin to thank them for making my fishkeeping experience one filled with enjoyment and reward. This place has a great selection of healthy fish and plants as well as some nice rocks and driftwood and aquarium lights. I only gave 3 stars because, like others, I experienced sub par customer service during both of my visits here in the last month. Today there was a woman working that was pleasant but her male counterpart was not. He even insulted me about a lighting change that I was looking to make. I'll likely return for supplies that are harder to find elsewhere but if the customer service does not improve I'll just have to buy online. However, Id like to support local business. I'm only reviewing in hopes that positive changes are made. :) Edit: I have returned several time since this review and am giving 5 stars. How does this place have such a high rating? Not only are the staff unfriendly (mainly Cory) - which can be forgiven - but they're not helpful. That's not to say they're not knowledgeable, they seem to know a bit, but getting useful information out of them is like pulling teeth. When I came in, I was the only paying customer (besides me, a father and son there to just look at the fish) and they chose not to acknowledge me. How do I know this? As I was walking in, I heard them ask the father and son if they were finding everything they needed. When I finally engaged them and asked questions, they were terse and unaccommodating. I asked a few questions about the types of plants they had and what types could work for my tank and they "couldn't really think of anything" until I found specific plants I wanted at which point they said "that could work". Why does it have to be a chore to get help? There is no reason to come here if you're looking for any type of service. If you know exactly what you want and just want to buy something specific that they actually happen to have, that nobody else has, then sure, come on in. Otherwise, I'd rather go anywhere else, where I might get treated like an actual person. read more

I wish I could say good things about this place because I like to support small family owned businesses. My intention of this review is for the owners and employees to read this review and use it as a tool to improve. Please know that I've been visiting Aquarium Co-op since they opened and have given them the benefit of the doubt far too long. But I can't hold my tongue any longer. Strengths: 1. Location. They are up north where fish stores are far and few between. Opportunities: 1. Customer service. I've yet to be greeted and always have to initiate the transaction first. Even when I'm the only customer in the store. Please acknowledge your customers when they walk in, just say hi or say you'll be right with them. A smile would be novel in this place. 2. Professionalism. I overhear passive aggressive tone and words to other customers in the store as well as those in the phone. Wow. 3. Inventory. What's the use of a great location if you can't keep simple supplies in stock. Yes, I've called ahead and got a earful of attitude. See point #2 above. 4. Clean your tanks. I see dead or dying fish in a couple of tanks every time I go in there. 5. Attitude. Again, see point #2 above. Incredible store with passionate and intelligent people. I've always been interested in owning fish but have always been intimidated because I never knew how to start this magnificent hobby. What size tank should I get?, what fish should occupy the tank?, how do I get appropriate levels of pH? - those questions and many more plagued me. However, thanks to the folks here, they helped me above and beyond AND without pushing their own products (which seems to be rare)! Their selection of live plants and fish are outstanding. What a great find. It's a bit out of the way, but compared to the box stores such as Petco and Petsmart, Cory has a way better selection of HEALTHY & HAPPY fishes as well as some of the best plants I've encountered. They are extremely helpful, knowledgeable, and I'm addicted. A drive well worth going. Update: 3 months later and I find myself coming here on a weekly basis. 4 tanks later, and 99% of everything I have is from Cory and no complaints. read more

I am an online customer on the east coast who has ordered plants from Aquarium Co-Op on 4 separate occasions now. Despite the plants traveling cross country, they always look healthy on arrival and have always done well in my tanks. My last order was here so quickly it made my head spin!! I love the fry feeder food/bottle it is genius! I can't thank Cory and his staff enough for the wealth of information I have learned in all the youtube videos. It is priceless. For example: In the 70's I kept guppies and they always lived and without a heater. Now, I know that today's strains need heaters. Recently every time I put a guppy in my heated tank it died. Now, I know what they go through in transport to the big box stores. I also know that they need crushed coral. I set up another tank and they are doing great! Don't even get me started on sponge filters!! I love them ! Also, the sponge filter which goes on the intake valves made it possible for me to keep African dwarf frogs again! I could go on and on. I really enjoy this store. Started coming here a few months back when I heard Edmonds had a new fish store. I was so happy to find such a great store. Heathy fish in clean tanks with live plants and a great variety. The owner is always there and very helpful. He has quite a few of his own fish there which are fun to watch. There's a school of clown loaches that are huge and have to be over 10 years old and a fresh water puffer that's incredible! Remember this is a fresh water store so no salt water fish and its really not the place to buy tanks and other tank supplies although there are some there. There is plenty of kinds of fish food, even live blood worms. If your a fresh water tank person you've gotta stop by here. read more

The night was moist.....it takes place in the Yukon...(Name the movie) In my youth, I never did understand why fish stores had to be so dang hot and humid, then I realized, that the fish are "tropical" afterwall... Here the store is hot'n humid, but in a good way, it can get a bit stuffy in there, not due to the staff, just the warm water in all of those tanks. They have a great selection of locally bred stock, which I like, I'll even pay more for these healthy home-grown types. Never, and I do mean NEVER, will I buy stock from those big box stores!! Staffing was limited the night we visited, 1 guy. A couple was hogging up the staffer's time, with a ton of questions, but he was polite with them when he realized a couple of us were in line to pay. Prices are fair, I mean these are very healthy looking fish, clean tanks, nothing dead or dying in them, can't say that about other places! Products are high quality yet priced fairly. Selection isn't huge on tank products, plants, or lighting, but the choices of stock were very well represented. From the looks of it, available stock changes as they are sold off, so if you see something, you'd better pick it up. My youngest and I spent a fair amount of time in there, looking at all the show tanks, it was a treat to see such a nice presentation of tanks and beautiful fish. Keeping fish does seem like a lost art, the hobby doesn't have that many quality stores around anymore, I'm glad these fine folks are here to represent. Nick is amazing!! Expectations were defiantly exceeded with the knowledge of marine life. We have a tank that looks pretty ugly with zero idea as to how to improve it. My 1st time in I didn't know what fish I could safely add, or what would be the best option for a 200+ gallon aquarium at work. Nick gave clear suggestions and helped me navigate the store based on our company's aquarium budget. Cory can help you find the species to fit your tank or the personality you're looking for in fish. Not to mention his knowledge of tanks, plants, filtration, lighting, decor and foods. Prices are better than the PetCo down the street, and his stock in infinitely better. Not to mention deals on groups of certain fish and items the other stores simply don't carry, like rimless tanks, blackworms, and incredibly rare plants. This place is amazing!!! I know sometimes when you think "fish store" it is kind of depressing idea: some stinky, damp place with poor fish floating at the top of the tanks and a person behind the counter who is mad that you're asking questions. Aquarium Co-Op is exactly the opposite. All fish are happy, healthy, and loving life. The owner Cory has a great team of helpful and incredibly knowledgeable people who just want you to get the fish that is right for you that you know how to keep happy. Cory also does amazingly helpful videos on YouTube. That is how we found the place, then we thrilled to find it was located close by. Well worth the drive from Seattle, blows every other fish store, um, ahem, out of the water. read more

He show-cased the LED's that he had running on a 40B with HC and Dwarf Hairgrass, and a bunch of other plants, and THE GROWTH was Awesome! Pricing on LED's are as low as possible, he really gives good deals to hobbyists, and Greater Seattle Aquarium Society members! He has this crazy thing where.... if you buy more fish... IT GETS CHEAPER!!!!!! The quality of the fish are great! They're happy and that's what matters! I'd rather drive two hours from LACEY, to buy from here rather than go anywhere else. The store owner knows what he's doing, the workers know what they're doing, and the store is GREAT. You can't find a better price on L.E.D's at any other local fish stores, nor will you be able to find good quality fresh-water fish like his for that price! read more
