But there was one kid I remember, he was very sweet and loves aquariums that's why they get the 4 star instead of 3. He recognized me almost immediately after our first interaction and said hey, you're from Hawaii right? Awesome guy, lots of knowledge and most importantly, genuinely kind. You don't find genuine and kind now a days. I spend a good amount of money on Aquarium supplies from time to time, and while I don't normally go to the bigger stores because I rather support smaller business, these guys always have majority of what I need and it's hard not to shop there. I bought a 20 gallon visi Fluval tank and inquired on testing the tank for leaks because I wouldn't set up for a while. The manager just told me I had 14 days without hesitation, while I asked if we could just test it she made it sound like it would have been a hassle. So no problem, I pick up the tank and pray for the best since I know how to silicone my own tanks if anything goes wrong. While the tank did not leak, I didn't set up until almost 2 months later. Had it leaked, could have lead to a serious customer complaint especially after being told they are not liable once the tank leaves the store, they make you sign a paper saying you agree to that has well, I just wish she wasn't so brash about not wanting to fill the tank for testing and the 14 day warning.

The fish here look very healthy and happy and I always see multiple people cleaning and organizing the store. It's very kid friendly and, again, the staff are super sweet to kids taking a look at their tanks. Not sure about prices compared to other stores - but they definitely see fair and not overly costly. Betas go from 10-40 dollars from what we saw depending on the type and rarity.

I love her selection of fish, and her shop gives me the real deal fish keeper hobbyist vibes. She mentioned that when people donate fish they normally go to a nice reservoir and I couldn't be more thankful because we have donated some oversized comets due to lack of knowledge at another shop telling my old friend that they will stay small and be perfect for a 10 gallon tank. Definitely not the case. Caye took the fish, gave us store credit and also had other customers but made sure to try and balance everyone without struggle.

I can also tell you that I paid 1/3 the price for each of those fish that I would have paid if I went anywhere else. One more plus is supporting a locally owned and owner operated business. Secondhand Pet Supply is a new store for discount pet supplies…read more Think of it as a thrift shop for pet supplies. They have all the collars leashes, play toys, coats and beds for catos and dogos. They have pet crates for companion animal travels near and far. They have empty aquariums ready for fish or small reptiles. Hamster and mouse cages with exercise equipment. Do you need a cat tunnel shaped like a purple alligator, they had one! They don't have used pets, just used and new pet supplies. Everything is clean and nice. The live things they had, in partnership with Rabbit Advocates, are actualy live bunnies. They take donations, explained on their website. They are a nonprofit, so if you do tax deductions, they can write a receipt. They are on the lower level of the Lloyd Mall just West of the ice rink and across from the circular stairway. They are trying to save surplus pet stuff from the landfill. They are part of the zero-waste Portland community.
