Great place specializing in salt water and reptiles. Wish they had more fresh water! Workers are knowledge and helpful. Nice used equipment for sale at good prices as well. Highly recommended for salt water enthusiasts.

How to even begin... My first time going to Upscales-Fish & Reptiles will be my last due to many issues I had with the facility and the person running it. I went to go purchase a water dragon late July and called in to see if they had any available. He let me know they had one left. When I got to the store my friend and I immediately asked about the water dragon. When looking around the tank for the water dragon, my friend and I noticed there was inadequate lighting, an extremely dirty tank, along with grimy nasty brown water in the pond like structure. The lizard came out from hiding and my friend asked to hold him. When we took the lizard out, he had a scar seemingly from ear to ear across his mouth, only 2 fingers on one hand and all 5 on the other but one was necrotic and about to completely fall off. His spikes were burnt black. He looked skinny, malnourished, dirt brown and was shedding terribly. My friend asked the employee what was wrong with him and why he had so many health issues and he stated "well we got him like that about three months ago" The employee was asking $45 for the lizard but my friend offered him $20 because of the extensive care we would have to get him to keep him alive. I've included two pictures the day we got him. We let him bathe in water which helped clear the shedding a little but we could not find out what the scab was from. It ended up coming off with soaking in the water enough and the minute he was able to open his mouth he drank all the water he could. The scab was not allowing him to eat or drink for God knows how long. He has a huge appetite now, has gotten his rightful coloring back and is healthier than ever. The other two pictures are of my lizard 3 months after leaving Upscales-Fish & Reptiles. I would never recommend this place to anyone in a million years for reptiles or anything reptile related. If anything go there to save the reptiles from this poorly kept facility.

Aussie ultra feather duster rock. Never seen one like this before!

Always super helpful and informative. Very healthy and well taken care of fish and inventory. If you can stop by to look at the manta rays!

They have improved their selection of cat food and snacks (which was the biggest problem I had with them before), and now they offer considerably more friendly and helpful service than the competitors (Petsmart, Petco, and even Healthy pet). To be clear: their service always was good!, But their competitors have gotten a lot worse imo). One example of how their service is better: During the pandemic I was having trouble getting some of my cats their preferred food. I went to Mud Bay and found about half of the things I was looking for. The friendly cashier asked me if I found what I was looking for so I explained what food I was unable to find. He did some checking in their computer, and found that some of it was available in other stores in the area, and some could be ordered and picked up at their store (convenient!). That blew me away, and that's great customer service. There are still some sizable downsides to Mud Bay though. Their selection of anything other than canned and dry food, for cats, is, in my opinion, is the worst amongst their local competition. And shopping there is a pain due to the horrible parking situation there in that mall and some fairly short hours. Still, I hold Mud Bay in high esteem and all things being equal do much of my shopping there now.

They greeted us at the register and seemed to genuinely want to be helpful and attentive. My family and I asked for help picking out some Cherry Shrimp and Hunter happily walked us back to pick them out. The register got a line built up and Hunter politely excused themselves to check out the people waiting. We were more than happy to wait for our turn, as we understood the register mattered more. Unfortunately, all of our troubles came when Tara walked up suddenly to help us instead.... She immediately had an attitude with my curious [and respectful] toddler who was standing in front of the tank and interrogated us adults about the tank we had with "Is your tank established??" in a blunt snooty tone. Not wanting us to get off on the wrong foot, I tried to keep the tone cheerful and responded with a smile and a "Yes". Before I could even finish that one word, she interrupted with "How many days?" and waited in silence staring at me to answer. This began to feel less like a helpful interaction at a store and more like a bully relishing in a moment... I hesitantly answered "Three days..." SHE SNORTED AT ME and sneered "That's not established." She went on a spiel about tank cycling, bacteria loading, fish health, etc, etc. which would have been fine IF she was doing to teach and encourage.... instead she was enjoying making us feel stupid and herself superior. I was embarrassed, shocked, and totally caught off guard with her pompous attitude. I'm plenty used to dealing with annoying dog snobs online, but to have an animal snob be THIS bold and rude to a customer face to face, especially in front of our kids, was beyond my comprehension. I do not have a thin skin.... I run dogs in Agility and have been part of the purebred dog community for years where things can get a little cutthroat in certain corners. Needless to say, we left without any shrimp even with her huffy "I'll still get you the shrimp if you want..." She ruined what was a happy moment getting more supplies for our kid's birthday tank. Coming from an ex-animal snob, dog trainer, and ethical dog breeder: Caring about animals doesn't need to come at the cost of bullying people.
