I used to go to CB's when they were on 181st and Burnside. So I rode my Mobility Scooter up there and found they had moved. They moved to 181st division. So I just kept going on my Mobility Scooter until I got there. Just to find out if it is not ADA friendly at all. They have a big curb that goes up to the door and no other way to get around. So although I'd like to give them a five star and continue where we left off, but I have no accessibility to their store and therefore are unable to review. read more

Visited here last week and while the cashier seemed very helpful to the other customers in the store, I couldn't help but notice literally 3 different diseases visible on the fish all in different tanks throughout the shop. These diseased fish were purchasable and not labeled in quarantine or anything. Safe to say I won't be back! read more

Attractive and well-maintained tropical fish store with absolutely beautiful saltwater display tanks and a wide variety of corals. Though I came in for a few fish for our freshwater aquarium I couldn't help but be impressed by the saltwater tanks and the dozens of corals for sale. We're happy with the fish we purchased, and the service we received was friendly and on point. Certainly worth a visit. read more

We've been visiting CB's for many years now! Located right off of 181st and Burnside you will find this little Local Fish Store/ LFS. Parking here can be challenging since there are not many spots. Being next to a liquor store there is quite a bit of traffic going in and out. The store is well kept and clean. They sell; freshwater, saltwater, tanks, filters and other aquarium supplies. The tanks are situated at the front of the store when you walk in. We come to CB's to browse their varieties of freshwater tropical fish in their fish room. Their fish selection ranges from; corydoras, Tetras, Cichlids, Discus, Bamboo Shrimp and Plecos. The prices are competitive and not overly pricey. The tanks are well maintained and their stock of fish healthy. You can tell that they do a good job of keeping their fish healthy and keep up with the maintenance. read more

By far one of the best and well maintained fish stores in the Portland area with a great selection of fresh water,Saltwater fish and my favorite a big selection of healthy well taken care of corals. We went to CB's Aquarium for fish for my son. Especially now, with distance learning, and classes on Zoom, he's spending LOTS of time in his room. Not only did he save a TON of money- we compared and visited two other stores- the staff WAS INCREDIBLY helpful. As if that wasn't enough for a terrific start, on day two, there was trouble in the fish community. We called CB's, and they eagerly offered an exchange to make it better. We came to Portland to check out several local fish stores as we have only big chain stores where we live. This place was easy to find and had good parking. The store was a bit small but it was well stocked with supplies and fish. We came in search of a few certain types of fish, which he had. They were in very good shape and very well priced. He said his stock was low due to him not taking shipments due to the heat. I like that. Even with his stock being low I felt he had a good selection of fish. The owner was helpful and straightforward. Another positive. We are heading back tomorrow to pick up several fish to take back home with us. read more

I really like the no BS approach this, they would rather not sell you something then to sell you the wrong thing. I have found this to be the case on all my purchases. Ive had 2 tanks (one small and one large) both from here and ended up getting all filters and equipment apart from plumbing here. I have had one pump fail on me and it was just replaced right away. The guy does ask a lot of questions in regards to what you have and what you know but this is just so he gives the right advice. Im now a regular that has been going in every few weeks just to see whats new as stock is always changing. read more

My son and I made the "Portland Fish Store Tour" today. I think we went to at least 4 or 5 Mom & Pop type stores (Cayes, A to Z, Wet Spot, etc). CB's was easily the cleanest one we found. May not have had the biggest selection of freshwater fish but certainly a nice selection and seemed very competitively priced. Will certainly be returning. read more

Great place! New to hobby of fish as pets. Initially just wanted to get a reliable small aquarium and help with set up to have fish for my younger children. Big pet chain stores have been disappointing with poor results and unfortunate outcomes with little to no customer service. CB's Tropical is a rare gem...great old fashioned personalized customer service that builds repeat, satisfied customers that are successful fish owners. Travis, owner, has made this process so easy, we're considering a second tank for our son. He was so enamored with the store on our last visit, he wants some peaceful cute fish like his little sisters. Regarding the store, its a terrifically clean, pleasant place. No smell! Fun selection of fish. It's like a visit to a little aquarium museum. Great place to just do an outing with little kids. Travis isn't a pushy salesman, so no worries! But the fish might still make their way home with you...he's a keen fish store owner. Highly recommend this store. It's worth whatever drive you have to endure. read more

So far I have been really happy with my service here, it was easy to navigate around the store and the guy who works here was helpful in answering questions. I ended up getting three guppy's and a catfish. He was nice enough to give me one guppy as a "Christmas present" unfortunately on the second day the cats fish died. I brought him back into the store to see if maybe it was something I had done. We tested the water I brought in with the fish to find out I needed to work on balancing out some of the Ph and things in my tank. He was super helpful and tested some water from one of his own tanks so I could see the side by side and compare. He set me up with the correct additives and said to come back in a few days to test again and that he could help me out with a new fish. I followed his instructions and things have been good so far. I need to still bring water back for testing but so far so good. One thing I did when I got back was look up the water treatments he has sold me to compare price. I was shocked the find out that his prices were actually CHEAPER than online which is crazy to find anywhere!! Hope to go back shortly and I won't hesitate to take advise or buy new products from them. read more

Anything we have needed in regard to equipment and livestock has been available and he makes every effort to keep our project within budget. If you are looking for a Tropical fish store in the South-East Portland area, you must visit CB's Tropical Aquarium! The place is impressively CLEAN, SMELLS GREAT, and has GREAT VENTILATION, as customers browse through their inventory. We have visited other stores and found that we had to step outside just to breath, while others are so scattered you feel like you're in a bowl of tropical SOUP. Travis and his Security dog (non aggressive), run a TIGHT SHIP, and although we are novices and bought a 75 gal. tank... WE KNOW QUALITY WHEN WE SEE IT. Travis was patient, attentive, and focused on our goals & budgetary limits even with multiple customers coming in after us (they are even friendly). Parking is plentiful, and the shop is pleasant to the eyes. Don't go to A to Z Pet Store (their great people), and don't visit Salt Water Obsessions (they're great too) - Go to CB and let Travis educate you, and support the direction you want to go in with your hobby. In addition, since we're so new to this hobby, we will return to YELP for a 3 month and 6 month review of how we feel about CB. See you all a few months, & lets hope its not a one time thing. Wonderful. Great stock of healthy beautiful and different fish. We were on our way home from a tournament back to Seattle area and stopped in to see what they had. We arrived right about closing and he stayed open without complaint. Very nice, knowledgeable and not pushy, let us take our time. Prices were good. We left with a gorgeous 5" porcupine puffer with a great personality and a blue Regal yellow belly Tang of equal size. Both traveled well and are doing great. For us it will be worth the trip to go get fish from this store. This is just the type of lfs the Seattle area needs. Keep up the good work. read more

I was In the middle of moving my 80 gal fish tank when I found out the I had to get a new tank stand for it asap. I knew how extremely hard it was going to be to find one that would fit and for a good price. I saw cb's and pulled in I didnt think they would have what I was looking for but. I was wrong when I walked in i was greated instantly by the manger, which was nice also he helped me find a tank stand that would fit just by looking a the pic I showed him. He was really nice a very helpful. Also he sold me the stand that was on the sales floor for cheaper then I would have thought it was going to be. I love this store and the coustmor service that they provided. I got to my new place put the tank on the new stand and found that it had fit perfectly. He definitely knows what his doing and what he's selling. I will be shopping there again. read more

I walked into this place after picking up my 10 year old from school.He was pretty excited to add two more fish to the tank he and his sister assembled the prior week. The man behind the counter was rude to the point of being confrontational. He turned what would have been a 40 to 50 dollar transaction into a hideous customer experience. Having visited a hand full of topical fish stores over the past week with my kids I have recognized some norms one of them being that topical fish sellers test a water sample from your home tank to assure they aren't selling you fish who will simply be killed by the composition of your home tank's water. This guy told me that he would need to charge me for this simple curtesy,justifying this by saying,"You should be able to go back to where you bought the tank and have them test your water!" Clearly this guy is mighty proud of his fish tanks, maybe a little too proud. read more

The only LFS in the Portland surrounding area that I trust for my saltwater needs. Other shops I've dealt with have been okay, but Travis is down to earth, incredibly knowledgeable, and doesn't judge your mistakes. His coaching me through a crash saved 2 of my 5 fish and restored the balance within days. When the skimmer that I bought from him failed to work out of the box, he was committed to getting it to work or replacing it. He is the first owner of a LFS that I've worked with who talked to me like a person and not like some inferior hobbyist. I highly recommend for those who are new and experienced. I travel from Beaverton/Aloha though I have closer options. He's honestly the only one I trust to tell it like it is. read more

I bought my hundred and 20 gallon aquarium from Travis at CBs, had it up for about a year, had to break it down because I was having some floors installed at my house and set it back up with Travis's instructions, my tank has never looked better thanks to Travis and his knowledge of the hobby read more
