Came here on a Friday for brunch with a friend that was visiting. It was basically empty. When we arrived we waited for about 5 minutes for a host to help us, we began to think it was closed. We quickly ordered our food and drinks. We had previously asked what the price of the truffle burger since the menu has "IYKYK" for its price. We were told 22 and then ended up being charged 32. This pricing doesn't seem appropriate as it resembles dynamic pricing. Additionally we ordered the burger rare and received a well done burger. The omelette was good and the food came out quick, however as mentioned before, the establishment was empty so quick service was expected. This place was not too memorable for a brunch/lunch location. I cannot speak for its dinner menu and service but I would suggest checking out other businesses in the area if it's lunch/brunch time. Some friends and I dined at Aquitaine last night after a wine tasting at The Urban Grape nearby. It's an intimate feeling space, although not small, and we appreciated that the venue was willing and able to accommodate one more person than we had booked the reservation for. I had the Duck à l'orange--was feeling I wanted something quite traditionally French--and enjoyed the dish. There was a good balance of meat to duck skin, and the accompanying spinach was a good complement. They also have exceptionally good truffle fries! Probably the best I've had anywhere. Our server recommended several bottles of wine to pair with the duck, and we went with the Châteauneuf-du-Pape, a fun and fruit-forward red. I finished with the pear and apricot dessert, which I basically gobbled up. The staff let us stay past closing time (thanks, y'all!) and I'd be happy to return here again. read more

We enjoyed a very nice lunch on a cold windy rainy/snowy "Spring" day before a matinee play down the block. The place was quite busy at noon, and would recommend a reservation for brunch service. After being seated our server gave us some time to settle in and review the menu. Cocktails were good and our waiter understood we wanted to enjoy a leisurely brunch. We enjoyed a delicious and classic French Onion Soup as well as a Croque Madame. The desserts all looked good and we settled for the bread pudding. Delicious! Served warm and very crispy, one of the better bread puddings I've had. Portions are reasonably sized, but there are no sides on the sandwiches and no bread service. Prices seemed a tad on the higher side, but the food, drink and service were all good. I've been to the Chestnut Hill location for dinner years ago, and recall enjoying the dinner entrees. Tasted my companions meals who did order off the restaurant week menu.....although I was happy with my selection their food was very good as well. We have been going to Aquitaine yearly forever. Always a professional well trained staff. Reservations only! Used to have valet parking, but we have parked on street repeatedly without an issue. The menu is terrific. All good. We had duck, swordfish, and sole. The sole was a bit over cooked. Drinks great, desserts good, no decaf lattes, just plain decaf. Tip: Not a fan of the tables across from the bar in a small room. I suggest declining them. We will continue to enjoy the restaurant. read more

Stopped in on the early side on a dreary winter night for some French onion soup, salad, and a glass of wine. It was quiet enough that there were only 3 other people at the bar when I arrived. The food was fine, but the bartender was pretty inattentive. I had to ask for a menu, I had to ask for a fork for my salad; she never checked in on me after my food arrived. I probably would have stayed for a second glass of wine, had it felt more welcoming. Also, totally not the fault of Aquitaine, but the woman sitting near me at the bar was chewing ice cubes the entire time - annoying AF! Too bad - I'm a huge fan of Metropolis, owned by the same people. Probably wouldn't bother to go back here though. read more

Moules en cassoulet were really delicious and came with many for the price. French onion soup was also phenomenal. nice cheesy layer that was not overwhelming or too oily and great caramelized onion taste with a nice acidity. The Duck risotto was good with a nice consistency of the risotto and mushroom taste. Duck a l'orange was good with a perfectly cooked seared duck breast and the orange sauce was flavorful but not too sweet. The greens that came with the dish were too salty though taking away from the overall experience. Service was great and the restaurant kindly gave us a complimentary coconut sorbet as a celebration of our anniversary. Sorbet was delicious and very refreshing after the rich meal. read more

Had a fancy Friday night dinner with some buds to kick off the new academic year, and my goodness did we kick it off... This was truly one of the best dining experiences I've ever had in my life. The prices are fair and the portions are reasonable. The only thing is that they charge you for what seems to be complimentary San Pellegrino, so be cautious about that. We dropped $40 on two bottles. We ordered a charcuterie board and escargot to start off with and both were truly delicious. The escargot was silky and not too strong, and the board had 3 really tasty cheeses and jams to pair with the toast. I enjoyed the pickled blueberry jam, which was new to me but ended up being a great compliment to the board. I wish we got a bigger piece of honeycomb, but other than that it was amazing. For the main course I ordered the truffle burger which came with French fries for a reasonable price of $24 and it was probably one of the best burgers I've ever had. I always order my red meat to be well done, which is risky flavor wise, but this burger came with such high reward. It was incredibly juicy and paired so nicely with the truffle. The truffle was not overpowering at all. The fries were piping hot and there was a generous serving. To top it off, we finished the night with some crème brûlée, which was silky and had a beautiful custard taste. The bill came out to about $160 with tip for 3 people which included 2 bottles, 2 appetizers, 3 entrees and a dessert. This was VERY reasonable for an upscale restaurant. I've been going to Aquitaine in the South End for about 14 years. Generally it has been very good. Five years ago, I was diagnosed with celiac, and had to go gluten-free. Unfortunately, Aquitaine is a bit behind the times. Wait staff, who are all very good, basically have no clue what is gluten-free or isn't. Most upscale and not so upscale restaurants put GF (gluten-free) next to the menu item where appropriate, and GFA (gluten-free available) when it can be adjusted. Aquitaine does not. I am starting to think that they couldn't care less about those customers. read more

All I can say is wow. I had an afternoon reservation today for Brunch, and I can definitely say that a reservation is the way to go, as it was quite full for Sunday brunch. I particularly appreciated their flexibility as we arrived five minutes late (thank you to the chaos that is the Green Line...). We were greeted and served by Alexis super quickly, who worked efficiently to make sure we had drinks and food ready in a timely manner. She was very personable and made our experience unique! As for food, my girlfriend and I could have ordered the entire menu. We looked at the menu beforehand, but we were both still in between options after we arrived - everything looked absolutely delicious! I ended up with the Croque Madame while my girlfriend got the crispy chicken sandwich and truffle fries. The croque madame was the best one I have had so far outside of literal France itself. It was packed with flavor and came with a light, refreshing side salad. My girlfriend's truffle fries were to DIE for, and I found myself periodically grabbing a few. We couldn't finish out our anniversary brunch without dessert, and after a difficult time choosing between the entire dessert menu, got the chocolate mousse. This was the BEST way to finish off our Aquitaine experience, with fresh whipped cream and dark chocolate that was the perfect level of sweetness. We're both college students, and so the reasonable prices for an upscale restaurant in the South End were the icing on the cake. After taxes and tip, the total was $70 for drinks, entrees, and dessert. Aquitaine, I will DEFINITELY be back. In a perfect world, Aquitaine would be my regular brunch fix! read more
