My massage therapist was Coco. She mentioned she couldn't do a hard pressure massage, and I was completely fine with that. 20 minutes into the massage, I politely asked if she could target the inner part of my back near the spine. She then blew up, said that she couldn't do that, ended the session, and told me to pay $55 for 30 minutes. As we were in the reception area, I calmly tried to explain that the session had only lasted 20 minutes and asked if she could charge me $45 instead, which felt more reasonable for a shortened portion of a $90 one hour massage. Unfortunately, she started yelling and even threatened to call 911. I reluctantly paid to avoid any unnecessary drama. As the other workers walked by, awkwardly smiling at me, I felt they may have seen this from Coco in the past. Her energy felt anxious and angry from the start. I understand people have bad days, but I hope the establishment looks at the video footage and ensures future customers are treated with more professionalism and respect. Rude and unprofessional. My appointment started late, so I only received 45 minutes instead of the full hour I paid for. During the session, I politely asked the massage therapist not to pull my hair, and she abruptly left the room without explanation. Despite this, they insisted on charging me for the full session. When I told the front desk I wouldn't be returning, the woman simply said, "That's fine--too bad," unprofessional and dismissive. I've come here for years. The receptionist at the front desk, her name was Sunshine, had the audacity to tell my husband that the tip gratutity we left was not enough. She kept saying, "other customers usually leave x,y,z amounts". I had to step in and tell her that a tip is a gratutity...a generous thank you and the customer decides what is appropriate. She was so rude in dictating the amount of the tip she expected...We left knowing after the many massages we have received there, we will not return for future massages. I must say...the tiping situation in America is getting out of hand. You can't go anywhere without the implicit implication that you must tip. Clean facility. Staff was friendly and attentive to our needs. Near Main Street so you can hear the traffic. Spa music was spotty due to bad Wi-Fi. Bed was squeaky and walls are thin, where we can hear someone vacuuming next door. We had a couples massage and it was originally at 12 but was pushed back to 1215 possibly due to prior clients being late. When the masseuses came in, they decided to switch on us at the start. Then my masseuse was unaware of some of my special requests. Massage overall was good with ideal pressure. My bottom was exposed a great deal of the time, it seemed, which was uncomfortable. There were some ticklish areas but she caught my cues. I was hoping she did more scalp massage and neck/shoulder massage, which are my most tense areas. Easily the best Thai massage I have ever received. Nestled into a small strip mall on Old Newport Blvd, this massage practice is as professional as it is authentic. Upon entering, I was amazed at how similar the place is to the many spas I visited in Thailand. The only thing different were the prices, which start at $65/hour. Fortunately, the service was well worth the Newport Beach price tag. I filled out some brief paperwork and decided on a combination massage to target the chronic pain in my upper back caused by working long hours at a computer. My masseuse was Peckey, who I highly recommend. She works here Monday-Friday. She lead me to one of the dimly lit private rooms, traditionally decorated with comfortable mattress and pillows on the floor. The massage began with Thai techniques, which combine elements of acupressure and assisted stretching/yoga poses. I stressed to her that she could go as hard as possible, and she had no mercy! It was amazing to receive the truly beneficial body work, after many recent weak rub downs. Her technique was perfected, with a seamless flow from one area to another. She transitioned into Swedish kneading techniques with oil, which relaxed my muscles after being unknotted. I left feeling like a new person, my pain diminished.
