Black Bear Diner on Alma School Road in Chandler delivered a classic diner experience done right…read more The atmosphere felt warm and welcoming, exactly what you hope for when sitting down for a relaxed breakfast. The service stood out immediately--our server was attentive, friendly, and made sure everything arrived quickly and exactly as ordered. The food itself was hearty and satisfying. The steak breakfast was cooked well and paired perfectly with the traditional breakfast sides. The Shasta Scramble was flavorful and filling, and the drinks were kept refreshed throughout the meal. Everything came out hot and well prepared, showing the kitchen clearly takes pride in consistency. What made the visit especially enjoyable was the combination of comfort-food portions, efficient service, and a laid-back diner environment. It felt like the kind of place where you can settle in, enjoy a solid meal, and leave happy. A great stop for a dependable, satisfying breakfast in Chandler.

Always hoping a local recommendation turns out great. *Service: the service was fair. Our waitress spent most of the time sitting in the booth across from us on her phone and checked in occasionally. A few times we had to ask for things we needed. Nothing rude, just not especially attentive or engaged. Definitely didn't feel like her #1 priority. *Food: I ordered the tuna *melt*. It was alright, but nothing to write home about. The tuna itself was relatively cold (should have been warm on a melt) and lacked flavor, the cheese wasn't melted (it's a "melt", right?), and the bread was good. I dipped and drenched in salt, pepper, ranch and hot sauce to give it some flavor. The fries were good, hot and tasty. Overall, it felt like a mid-level café sandwich made by a basic "cook", not a well curated restaurant sandwich. My lunch buddy ordered a smothered omelette that looked great, and he said it was very good, so that was good. *Ambiance: the atmosphere was decent. Very basic, a bit cold feeling, café-like, casual, and reasonably comfortable. Nothing stood out strongly other than it seemed pretty clean and bright. *Value: my tuna melt and fries, with no drink, was $16. Not great, not terrible. It felt like an $8-$10 sandwich max for what I got, not a standout value. I posted a picture of their specials board so you can get a feel for the value. *Overall: everything here was fair, food, service, and ambiance while value was not great. Nothing bad, nothing memorable. A three-star experience for me. I wouldn't rush back, but wouldn't avoid it if I was in the area and others wanted to go. *Update: I have a strong reputation for detailed, honest, and trustworthy reviews. What we experienced is accurately and honestly captured in this review. There were no misunderstandings, our experience is captured exactly as reviewed. Any responses attempting to paint a different picture are not accurate.

It was a holiday weekend so probably a factor but we were fine because we didn't have to wait and got seated immediately. Our server, Brittany, was quick to come over and ask for drink orders. We both just had water today as we had already had our coffee for the day! I ordered the Farmhouse Hash, which is (from the menu): Two cage-free eggs any style atop fresh, seasoned potatoes, bacon, avocado, house-roasted onions and tomatoes, Cheddar and Monterey Jack. Served with our whole-grain artisan toast. I had to ask for some other avocado as the slices I got were brown and yucky. Brittany apologized and brought a small plate of additional slices but they really weren't much better. Avocados are such tricky little things and when they have brown spots, I pass on them. Overall the dish was good and didn't miss the avocado. Wife got her favorite Million Dollar Back and the Lemon Ricotta Pancakes. Both were great and perfect and if you like lemon...try these pancakes. They are so good! Overall a good breakfast experience.

He ordered the healthy turkey omelet and I went with the blueberry pancakes. I definitely got the better deal. The pancakes were fluffy, soft, and super satisfying. With the butter on top, they really hit the spot and filled me up. His omelet, on the other hand, felt pretty small. It didn't quite fill him up, and we both wished we had ordered a little more. When I think breakfast, I want something that sticks with me for a while. The fruit on the side was fresh, and the service was great. We also joined the waitlist online before heading over, which made things really easy. We walked right in and were seated almost immediately. I'd definitely come back, but next time I'd encourage him to try something a little more filling.

The eggs Benedict were served on either untoasted or barely toasted English muffins that instantly became soggy due to the abundance of what was supposed to be holandaise sauce. Because it neither tasted or looked like hollandaise I inquired if it was made in house or a store bought product. Staff ensured me it was made it house. The hash brown potatoes, much like the English muffin, were undercooked and quite tasteless. I prefer supporting locally owned restaurants rather than chains but cannot recommend the Sweet Dessert Cafe to anyone.

MY good friend adopted 2 cats from here. It was a total hassle, horrible communication. And when we went to visit them before the adoption we were accosted by children at some sort of birthday party. The cats were STRESSED. WE WERE STRESSED. They scheduled our meeting with a birthday party for some young kids who were just flicking cat toys in our face and all the cats faces and running around so we couldn't interact like we would have hoped too. When we went to pick the boys up finally( 2 brothers who we were told wereNOT bonded but absolutely were.. thank goodness we took both)(..There was some sort of 'date' event going on and I had people swarming me constantly while I was trying to connect and CATCH the kitties we were taking home. It was a disaster. The price to adopt both was a Little outrageous as well considering you could tell they were fighting for food.... I appreciate what this woman is doing and please please adopt and don't shop, but be ready to spend some money and be frustrated trying to adopt.... Or even get a coffee from this cat 'CAFE'

Staff - friendly, helpful, very kind to children. Always a smiling greeting. Ambiance - they keep improving it. Conversation area, low or tall tables, lots of natural lighting. Pleasant. Food - I really really wish the menu had seasonal or monthly "special items" but everything they offer is tasty & fresh. Not their fault that I crave excessive choices and get "bored" with static menus. We appreciate this onsite service!

First impression: a bit confused I asked the gentleman working behind the counter if breakfast was served all day, and he responded by telling me they had already shut down the ovens for the day (and this was @ 6:30, and they didn't close till 7:00) so you say the cafe is open until 7:00, but people can't order food? The worker told me that I could only order a shake or a prepackaged food to go ... I am also not a huge fan of all the changes that have been made to the menu - I prefer some consistency, especially regarding some of my favorite items that used to be offered here. I ended up trying the bodybuilder shake with chocolate flavoring and peanut butter & banana ... It was good, but I wa disappointed that I was not able to order actual food, and last time I talked to a manger about this very same issue he explained to me that they are not supposed to shut down the grill/oven early (they are supposed to wait until close) .... Sooooo ???? I used to like coming here, but not if things close down early and I can't rely on the listed open hours ... I have seen this issue with lifetime workers before ... trying to close down the cafe early and refusing to make members food during the open hours. This has seriously got to stop. I hope the management sees this review and takes care of this issue because the cafe not only loses out on sales, but it's frustrating/annoying as a member to deal with lazy workers who just want to get out of work right on time instead of doing their job. The prices here are moderate, and as I mentioned in this post ... Staff here can be hit or miss. Sometimes they are good and great, other times they are nice, but slackers deep down ... The facility itself is very nice - clean, comfortable, and offers plenty of options when workers aren't claiming that its policy to turn off ovens/grills waaay prior to closing time ... I will try it out again to see if this issue has been resolved ... Be on the look out for my update ;)
