Strawberry and Cream Crepes , Monte Cristo Crepe with hash browns.
    Amber L.

We were looking for a brunch place that had a variety of everything. Found this on yelp and decided to give this place a try. Coming in, the staff was welcoming and very nice. We got to sit anywhere. Looked at the menu and wow there was a lot of food to choose from. The food was a lot of delicious savory food like all kinds of croissant sandwiches and other brunch food to sweet food and desserts. I tried the strawberry & cream crepes and my husband got the Monte Cristo crepe with hash browns and we got a club sandwich to split. The crepes were so delicious, smooth and silky and delicious and creamy. Loved the way it was made and I'm very picky. I felt like these were better than we ones I get when I go to work in Paris. The hash browns were the my husband and I have ever had. The seasoning was so good and it was a nice and crispy. My husband loved his monte cristo crepe. The club sandwich tasted so good. I actually got full fast and took mine to go for leftovers and I never usually take leftovers. We ordered 3 waffles to go for our teenage sons. The banana and cream and mixed berry and strawberry Nutella waffles is what we brought them and all were so good. I don't like pancakes or waffles but the banana one was my favorite. My boys raved about how good it was. It was one of the best they had too. Our waiter was amazing and great at checking on us but not over checking on us. He was excellent !! The place is very cute and clean!! They had a nice water jug with lemon and oranges it looked like for customers. Highly recommend this place and will come back to try everything. Everything in that menu looked amazing. We are new to Arizona and this will be one of our 'go to' spots.

The server was very friendly. I really enjoyed the hash browns that came with the breakfast burrito. I'd say the crepe was fine but I'd probably skip it next time.

Great food but be ready to practice your virtue of patience! This hidden gem is a family run business in the place you would least expect, next to a barber shop and a Food City. From the outside I expected it to be just a small coffee shop but as I sat down and took a look at the menu I was absolutely shocked at the huge number of choices for all types of breakfast meals! From waffles to Phillycheese steaks and from Montecristos to chilaquiles. We had to start with the waffles because that was what brought us here in the first place and there was nothing disappointing about them! Everything was delicious! But patience is definitely needed because this place was fully packed on Saturday and although the staff was incredibly nice and working as hard as possible it was just not humanly possible to take care of all the customers they have with the staff on hand. So our food came out at different times and one of our drinks did not arrive until our meal was almost done but despite this still enjoyed the food and look forward to going again and trying different items on the menu!

First time visiting Sweet Desert Cafe, the reviews lured us in. Ambiance- 3.5- it's a small diner style restaurant. Nothing fancy but ok. Service -3 - There is one person hosting, taking orders, managing and checking people out. I would not be surprised if he is also helping cook the food. All of which makes things slow and inefficient. I gave service a 3 since he is very nice and friendly. Food - 5 - We all thought our food was excellent. The strawberry waffle was light, fluffy and not dense, the best. As another reviewer said, if you want good food, I guess you have to be patient and wait.

I was looking for a breakfast spot on my last morning in Phoenix and decided on this place after seeing the good reviews and the menu. When I walked in there were a few tables with people and the host/server greeted me immediately. I sat myself and he brought me a menu. I decided on the banana Nutella waffle with a side of scrambled eggs. The server took my order and pointed me towards the water dispenser that I could use to pour myself some lemon water. The food came 10-15 minutes later. The waffle was pretty good and was the perfect size for how hungry I was. The bananas were fresh and the cream on top tasted homemade and was really good. The eggs were a little overcooked and had some griddle gristle mixed in, so I got some bites with burnt something from another order mixed in. The waffle was definitely the star of the dish and I would get it again. The lemon water was nice and refreshing. The restaurant was fairly loud due to a family with several rambunctious kids sitting right next to the door. The kids kept screaming and talking loudly. Luckily I was dining by myself so I didn't have to worry about hearing anyone I was sitting with. Given how loud it was with just one family, I'm sure it's even louder during peak times over the weekend. The host/server was an absolute delight. I didn't catch his name but the receipt says Laf, that may be it? He was a tall Black gentleman with a cross necklace. He was so friendly and made me feel right at home. I was worried about it being awkward that I was dining alone as I had never done so in a sit-down restaurant before, but he made me feel completely normal and I was so grateful for that. I walked away from my experience here texting my friends about how nice and lovely he was. I don't live in Arizona anymore but if I visit Phoenix again I would definitely consider going here if I'm in the area. It's definitely worth a try!

S-D-C is a cute and homey cafe with a knock-it-out-of-the-park menu; seriously, if you can't find something on this menu that excites you, you need to have your pulse checked. The service is nothing short of top notch as are the breakfast items we chose. If you want a taste tour de force, do yourself a favor and get the coconut pancakes with mango topping. It has such an excellent flavor that it is impossible to put into words. A handful of bennys that cover the spectrum are available for you to try also. Be patient once your order is placed- this isn't IHOP, they are hand crafting tasty delights with care in the kitchen to order. Maybe have an old-school conversation with the person or persons at the table with you. There probably won't be time to say much more than YUM! when your meals arrive. Just go and give them a try- you'll thank me later for certain!

Had some time to kill before visiting clients have been in a mood for crêpes in a while. Ordered a strawberry and banana Nutella crêpe. It was delicious. Hit the spot. The decor inside is actually pretty cute. I like how they have this chalkboard on the top part with lots of drawings. I was able to seat myself, and I love the booth options. The server who served me was very nice He was friendly. Definitely next time I'm back on the side of town and wanting crêpes I know where to go

Our group of 8 ended up here when another Tempe restaurant had a kitchen emergency and cancelled our reso an hour before dinner. Alter Ego was able to accommodate us, and we were glad they did. If you enter from the street side you'd never know you're in a hotel restaurant. It's got an upscale, classy vibe not usually seen in hotel dining. The waiter and bartender were attentive and knowledgeable. The menu wasn't huge but it was a great variety of options. Table had some salads, flatbreads, burgers and a round of butter cake desserts. Each was really, really good. Way more sophisticated plates than expected. Also had a bunch of craft cocktails, unique and well made. Sometimes the best experiences are unplanned. But you SHOULD plan to give this place a try.

I got the bang bang shrimp and it was good (6/10). The problem that I have is the pistachio gin fizz was an absolute no! I am a HUGE fan of pistachio and gin so immediately I had to get his drink but it was beyond mediocre. Are we drinking only syrup??? My last complaint is the coconut tres leches dessert.... Do we actually know how to make tres leches or we just naming desserts however we want? Just curious. It came out super hot, steaming more like a molten cake. As a Hispanic woman, I was expecting a creamy moist cake to celebrate my graduation but this was not it as well. Last but not least if the bald manager with the orange shirt wants to eat in the back of the kitchen, not the problem I get it (I work at restaurants) HOWEVER shoving your two index fingers into your mouth to get your debris out was my last straw. Like I said I like this restaurant and never had problems but today felt like a fever dream there.

While the ambience is fairly simple, the overall experience is a positive one, especially once the food arrives. I ordered the lox and bagel and was impressed by how substantial the portion was. The lox was generously layered, with a large amount of arugula on top. The arugula appeared to be lightly dressed with olive oil, which added great flavor. While it did not fully align with my personal dietary preferences, it was well executed, and I would be happy to return to see if it can be adjusted. The dirty chai was another highlight in terms of flavor. It was well spiced and not overly sweet, which I appreciated. Although it was described as very hot when delivered, it arrived closer to lukewarm, but the taste itself was enjoyable. Service was efficient and attentive. The check was dropped off relatively early, which initially felt a bit quick, but our server continued to check in on us throughout the meal, creating a balanced and courteous experience. The fresh squeezed orange juice was excellent, and everything we ordered was well prepared. Parking in the area can be challenging, though the nearby parking structure behind Pedalhaus makes it more manageable. Overall, this is a reliable brunch option with strong portions, thoughtful flavors, and enough positives to make it a place I would gladly return to.

It was absolutely delicious and the best part of the dining experience. The BLTA (Bacon Lettuce Tomato Avacado) sandwich was way too heavy on the lettuce and the bread was quite hard, making it difficult to eat. It was moreso a handheld salad. Service was okay, though not especially attentive, as our water wasn't refilled. At the host stand there was some confusion when we arrived. She didnt realize we were standing there and then when my boyfriend asked a question about a menu item she didnt respond. Not sure if she was just not paying attention, the music was too loud, or didnt want to converse with us. Sort of awkward. To be fair, it was busy, but there also seemed to be plenty of wait staff, so I'm not exactly sure where the disconnect was. Food-wise: the spinach artichoke dip was definitely the table favorite. My caprese panini was ok, it was sadly lacking pesto which feels a little criminal for a caprese situation. Our friends loved the fancy French toast & I was absolutely there for the prickly pear mimosas The entire brunch honestly felt like it was one dropped plate away from becoming a sitcom episode. One poor new waiter dropped a plate on the floor, then later knocked glasses off the rack above the bar & shattered a couple right next to guests sitting there. They serve salads, bowls, sandwiches, all-day breakfast, protein shakes, fresh juices, and other healthy, fast-casual eats for dine-in or take-away. My kind of place! This is one of those spots that I'd frequent if I lived nearby (ChopShop, want to open in Northern California?!). I stumbled upon this spot after a little self-guided tour of ASU campus on a sleepy Sunday morning (everyone must have been asleep after the big football game the day before). I'd forgotten about this spot and it was such a happy surprise to find it again and to see that they survived the pandemic and are still thriving. First visit I ordered: -Cheat Day Wrap: scrambled egg, bacon, white cheddar, smashed avocado, tomato, brown rice (I ordered without rice), and turkey or ham (I skipped these too) *DELISH on a whole wheat wrap!!! Full of flavor and super easy to eat. This hearty breakfast sando fueled my active morning of hiking "A" Mountain (Hayden Butte Preserve) the running around the the IronMan course to spectate (30,000+ steps as a spectator!). We couldn't leave town without another trip. But my first experience was not that great. They had plenty of places to sit, whether you like to sit indoors or outdoors. I decided to try the "Glow Up Shake," which is their protein shake. The shake was okay; it didn't blow me away. Considering that it has banana, pineapple, dates, etc., I was hoping it would melt in my mouth with a galaxy of flavor--darn, no such luck. But like I said, it was an okay drink that I think others might like. Now, as for the $3 pre-wrapped Triple Chocolate Chip Cookie? The first cookie they brought me was hard as a diamond. I asked if they could heat it up to soften it a bit like they do at Starbucks, but he said they can't? Wow, I didn't realize that heating a Triple Chocolate Chip Cookie was so complex that it can't be done by some places. Anyway, the minor good news was he brought me a different cookie that was soft enough to bend and break off a piece and chew without worrying about breaking a tooth. But the big question is, will I be back? Of course I will; the place has a plethora of healthy food which I like. And I'm sure when I order something other than a diamond-hard Triple Chocolate Chip Cookie, my experience will be somewhat better. This place does have a fantastic Wi-Fi. That's a plus.
