Khorovats (Armenian Grilled Eggplant, served as a cold appetizer)
Rick R.

This restaurant was next door to the Korean restaurant in my prior review. It features Armenian cuisine with a few dishes from the region in and around Russia. I counted 8 4-top tables with 4 more out on the patio. I was greeted by another diner who was friends with the owners that were in the kitchen cooking. One of the owners came out and gave me a menu and answered my questions. I told her I wanted a traditional and cultural experience. She told asked me what proteins I like. I chose lamb. So my order consisted of lamb kebab with Armenian style fried potatoes (based on their seasoning and garnish), as well as an Armenian grilled eggplant appetizer called Khorovats that is served chilled and an order of Georgian dumplings because I've never seen them on any menu before, so heck yeah I want to try them! The lamb was tender and nicely seasoned, the Khorovats was mostly one soft texture, but so savory, and some of the ingredients added life to the dish's presentation! The Georgian dumplings were amazing! The dough was perfect, IMO, because it wasn't too dense and it wasn't dry. The dumplings were filled with seasoned ground beef and garlic. This was one of the most memorable, beautiful, and delicious experiences I've ever had! I loved every moment, and I hope I get the chance to go back again soon! This is another restaurant worth going out of your way to visit!

This place has really good authentic Mediterranean food. Everything was made fresh to order. With that being said the food does take some time to come out. I walked in and waited about 10-15 mins before someone came out to take my order. I was the only person inside but could hear people talking in the back. When the waitress did come out and took my order is was about another 35 mins before my food came out. The meat was very tender and had great flavor. The chebureki was amazing. I got mine with chicken and it was mixed with cheese, mushroom, cabbage and potatoes. Again this was made to order and was very hot (temp) and fresh. I'll be stopping back here again on my next trip.

If I could give no star, I would. We ordered Lamb Kebob and Chicken Kiev to go. Waitress was absolutely rude from the beginning. She gave us our food and a bag without even bothering to make it "to go" ready. Looking at the check, the price did not seem right to me as it wasn't as advertised online. The owner and waitress kept arguing online info was pre-Covid pricing. I understood that may be the case, but all the menu's on the table indicated otherwise. Upon inspecting the receipt again (photo attached), found that it was a misunderstanding. They rang up Shrimp Kebob instead of Chicken Kiev. We were refunded appropriately while the waitress took all the menus off the table. Came home to eat our order, only to find out the Lamb Kebob was actually beef. Will not recommend this place and not coming back again. I don't know how they are fooling people and still in business.

The food was awesome. The khatchapuri (I.e., cheese pizza) was amazing. We loved the eggplant salad. We also loved the chicken stew - chakhokhbili. This was an out of the way gem. Show them some love. You will not be disappointed.

We ordered pierogi's on a Friday night and they were incredible. We ordered a plate of half potato and cheese and half spinach and mozzarella. They were simply just amazing. If I have to be super super picky, though, the potato and cheese pierogis tasted only a slightly bit doughy, but it was still great and I'm planning on paying Smetana multiple visits in the future.

Chicken shwarma wrap - delicious. mostly filled with mozzerella cheese and crunchy vegetables, seared in panini press. I would not describe this as schwarma wrap whatsoever. Coffee came out with 3 sugar cubes on the side of the tea cup. The hygienic part of me is screaming. Doesn't it make more sense to use a sugar bowl?

Wow! Perfection! My…read moresisters took me to this dollhouse of a restaurant for my birthday. From the outside in, the charm was everywhere. Cozy and sweet, every detail is thoughtfully planned. The bar area is adorable. Our bartender was so chatty and created perfect old fashions. The two dining rooms are equally adorable. The staff was fantastic and made us feel so welcome. The ladies at the hostess desk, the bartender and our server all offered warm hospitality. From appetizers to dessert, we loved everything. They offer classic supper club options as well as traditional German fare. House of Gerhard is not to be missed.

Low bar features comfy and accessible swivel chairs instead of bar stools. Very nice bartenders and top shelf beers and booze. There are no steps to navigate to enter restaurant itself (as well as the dining area), but there are two steps to climb to reach the small bar area. A railing would be helpful here. Dining is also a delight. A nice menu offers a variety of entrees and appetizers, German and American fare. Seafood is also very well prepared. Friendly waitstaff work hard and are very efficient. Water is refilled constantly. We had a schnitzel, scallops, house salad, and one awesome spinach salad topped by a perfect Strawberry Schaum Torte dessert on a recent busy Saturday. Can't wait to revisit to House of Gerhard when we return to Kenosha County.

It's so refreshing when a restaurant can do this! I wanted my family to experience a glimpse of Kyrgyz food, so of course we ordered all the things only a local would know about ! Shout out to our guide during our trip- he made sure we tried lots of cuisine that was all the way Kyrgyz food! The crispy eggplant is a must and is my favorite ! The eggplant is light and the sauce that is drenched on top is perfect to balance the fried crispy exterior. Next I ordered Samsa, Plov, and lamb kurdock. My husband ordered the beef rib and mash potatoes. Not the most Kyrgyz but he did try everything and loved it all! If you want a taste of central Asian cuisine please come to Jibek Jolu! Don't forget the honey cake!

He wasn't very helpful unfortunately other than naming some appetizers that we tried, though these came after some of our entrees came out. It was also very difficult to get water and refills on water but other than that we loved our experience. We over ordered because again, we were not aware of how big the portions would be and our waiter wasn't very informative: Carrot salad- even as a side this was a big portion to share with delicious light Asian flavors Jibek jolu salad- another great shareable with a tasty dressing and cuts of tender beef Khachapuri- one of the recommended apps, also a big portion to share though we didn't know what to do with the raw egg that came on the side. After flagging someone down to help us, we discovered that this was a delicious cheesy bread with egg mixed in. Crispy eggplant- another recommended app which was delicious and sweet Lamb kurdock- I didn't love this dish it was kind of dry and lacking in flavor but huge with lots of potatoes and veggies Combo skewers- so much meat that was all very tender and flavorful, though it came on one thin soggy tortilla. It would have been nice to have more tortillas on the side to make a wrap. I also tried the chicken tabaka, and this was delicious with a curry flavor. Overall, most dishes were so delicious, but it was a bit of a learning curve on how to order and what to expect.
