With so many (better than average) Mediterranean options around town, it's really hard to decide which one should be considered good vs. average vs. bad. Nikkos offers a wide variety of food, not just Greek. Burgers, dogs, Italian beef, etc. I know from experience both Mediterranean and Middle Eastern places generally offer very good burgers, but I haven't personally tried Nikkos'. I must try them soon. What I *have* tried are Italian beef, gyro, and chicken, both in plate and sandwich forms. Gyro and chicken dishes did not disappoint. Their chicken kebab plate is my daughter's new go-to Greek dish, and I can personally attest to their gyro and tzatziki sauce. Super legit. Also, French fries are good. I've tried their Italian beef now twice, but both times I thought they didn't do a very good job getting rid of beef taint. Gravy was okay; nothing special. I'd personally put them right at the same level as Portillo's. It's got a very old-school diner feel to the place. Menus are displayed with pictures over the counter, making it super easy to read and order. As far as friendliness of the cashier goes, I'd rate them 3 of 5. I was greeted and tended by a very nice lady once, but it was two grumpy dudes the other time who were all business and no play. Nothing wrong with their work ethics or order accuracy or anything. They were just unpleasant. Just so I'm clear, these encounters don't usually deter my star ratings. More so an FYI. All in all, I'm happy with my Greek plates at Nikkos. I'll probably go back to try rest of the other menu items like shish kebab or even a burger. read more

Five star food and service. This family owned place delivers fresh and hot food so quickly every time. I am always leaving super full and satisfied. I highly recommend the Greek potatoes as a side. They're so lemon-y and buttery, and come as a large portion. I also really love the chicken kebab sandwich and I'm always so surprised how quickly they put it all together. The fresh pita bread tears apart in beautiful layers, the vegetables are rich with flavor, and the chicken is so juicy and well seasoned. I literally can't help but finish my entire plate when I order from here. The kebab sandwich also comes with a generous service of Tzatziki which balances out all of the rich grilled flavors. Having recently lost my go-to Greek place, I saw a lot of people recommending this spot. I go past here often enough so I decided to finally give them a shot. It's a nice big space, it definitely feels old but it's clean enough. Pretty decent menu. They offer the usual Greek style options as well as your typical American fare. Order at the counter and grab your food there as well. Self service but with no tipping pressure... I appreciate that, so many places asking for tips without any service these days but not here. Bonus points for using an actual spit to cook the gyros, it's how it should be and we love to see it. I ordered the gyro plate and a spinach Pie. It all came out pretty quick and I've got to say, not bad at all. The gyros are sliced perfectly, giving each bite the right balance of crispy and tender. They load on the sauce, and it's pretty good. It's a strong flavor so I might have liked it on the side more honestly. The tomatoes were just sad, seemed like not the best quality so I ate around them. The pita was okay, I've had worse at similar places but I've had better too. Fries were surprisingly good! I like this type of crunchy battered fry. I'd definitely grab these again. The Spinach Pie was a bit spinach heavy for my taste, I like a heavier cheese balance personally. That said it was prepared just right and I finished it all anyway. It's listed as a side but it could be a main dish with its portion size. Good thing I was hungry! Price point wise, It felt a bit high. Maybe that's why my old favorite place went out of business though. This was a pretty good meal, and I see some friends recommending other things here so I'll for sure be back to try the chicken and potatoes. Side note: they have "gaming" if thats your thing. I ordered the chicken souvlaki plate and avgolemeno soup. I also ordered a full tray of pistachio to go. The chickens were lucky plate was plenty full and flavorful. Priced right and a joy to eat. The service was equally as good as Costa, the owner, and I shared with each other which parts of Chicago we originated from and where, and when we moved out to the suburbs. Been coming here for YEARS and I've only ordered 1 thing because it's so good - pork Kebob plate. Hands down one of the best meals I've ever ate. The portions are HUGE, the flavor is AMAZING and the staff is very nice. I always tend to go eat here by myself but the staff always makes it feel like I'm eating a home cooked meal. The half chicken plate was Meh. It was drenched in oil. The chicken while moist had little flavor. The rice was just rice in a ton of olive oil, same with the Grecian potatoes-these were drenched in a pool of oil. And it came with a whole fried and oiled bread split in half. Where are the veggies? So being in the thralls of a pandemic and being as sick as a dog has ensured that I stay home, it will not stop me from finding out about great food. My boyfriend and I were trying to figure out what we wanted for dinner and we were craving Greek food. After seeing all the stellar reviews, we decided to check out Nikkos and boy! Did it deliver! It was so delicious and yummy! We both got a Nikkos burger which was piled high with delicious and tender gyro meat, a perfectly cooked medium rare patty, succulent onions, lettuce, tomatoes in between two toasty buns. Oh! I like this restaurant. They have good food here. I really like their gyro, spicy (grilled) chicken sandwich and ribs. The service is good and the prices are reasonable. They have a nice dining area with multiple TVs for your viewing pleasure. They have counter service. They offer bottled beer along with soft drinks. What I like about this place the most is that the quality of their food is consistent. Their gyros aren't like some other places that are a hit or a miss. The gyro meat is cooked properly (not over or under). It's quantity is big. This one time we decided to get their ribs and one of their chefs or managers (can't remember who) recommended we try their ribs prepared Grecian style (olive oil, lemon and certain herbs) instead of the traditional bbq style. We went with it and was worth it. Those ribs were really good. Also, I like how they recommend to you different items they have on their menu based on your liking and preference. Nikkos is a good restaurant and one of my favorites in and around Mundelein area (that part of Lake County). Go check them out if you haven't before. read more

Went here a few days ago when our go to Gyro spot closed early. They were helpful on the phone and were happy to switch our sides at no extra charge. We got two gyro salads and two gyro plates for four hungry people and had a LOT of leftovers - 2-3 portions would have been plenty! The Greek potatoes were delicious, and they provided a lot of delicious tsatziki and pitas, as well as plenty of meat. Admittedly, when I walked into this restaurant -- I had no expectations at all, looking for something quick and in the fast food genre. This restaurant isn't situated in one of the busy malls and really never caught my eye in any of the Yelp searches. But this restaurant, like Tasty Spin, is simple, quick, good-priced, and good at what they do. One of the interesting things that's immediately noticeable when you walk into the restaurant is that the dining room actually resembles that of one of the full-service Greek diners. This allows you to sit more comfortably and in a nicer setting than you would get at most fast food chains. The food selection is pretty good and includes everything from gyros to chicken to pork chops to skirt steak to burgers and more. One word of warning before you get too crazy in ordering -- the portions are HUGE. This is especially true if you're getting any of the non-sandwich dinner orders which come with large plates of meat. Here's a few notes on all the items I tried: Fries: Fried very well, minimally salted. Chicken kabob: Tender, not overseasoned and had a good amount of char on it. Gyros: Tender and tasty, great flavor. Oven cooked potatoes: Meaty, not too sour or salty... went fairly well with other dishes. Grecian chicken: Huge surprise, crispy skin and very tender and juicy chicken -- probably the best dish I tried. Porkchops -- A little on the lean side for my but great price for less than $10 for two and was cooked just about right. It had just the right amount of seasoning and char -- better than many other local restaurants' preparations. Mac and Cheese bites -- deep fried dough filled with mac and cheese -- pretty good flavor but not super special. Italian beef -- Pretty similar to the preparation you'll find at other local restaurants, stick to the Grecian specialties and grilled items here instead. Hamburger: A nice char flavor on the beef, but the beef was a little bit lean and overcooked for me. Still, a good and tasty mix of ingredients. Overall, this is a great place to visit if you're in the area. You'll get a great value and there's something for everyone in the family. read more
