I ordered a gyros on a pita. I saw the meat come from a metal bin sitting on a plastic tray on a metal shelf. It is not on some warming tray. It is sitting in a container with no temperature control. When I asked about cooking the meat "well done." The cook insisted it was warm and cooked. I mentioned it looks soggy. He was worried about dryness of the meat. When I mentioned I was fine with the food cooked the way I wanted, he took the sandwich and threw it in the garbage. I didn't need attitude nor soggy or even possibly contaminated meat. My family and I tried Mr. Pita for some Mediterranean cuisine, and it did not disappoint. I ordered the Shawarma Beef Pita Sandwich, and it was absolutely delicious. We also shared a side of fries that were seasoned perfectly--crispy and flavorful. To our surprise, the staff gave us complimentary falafels with a sauce that had a unique, pea soup-like flavor. It was a nice touch and added to the overall experience. The place had a steady flow of people, but there was plenty of space for our family of four to sit and enjoy our meal. Did this place change ownership? Lots of issues with my experience today. I used to love this spot but today was just plain disappointing. Prices went up, that alone isn't an issue as everyone has had to raise prices recently. However, the quality has dropped considerably. The place had an odd flower smell, which I discovered was due to the bathroom doors being left open with candles burning in them. There were cleaning supplies out by the garbage bin, a possibly a health code issue? I got my usual. Chicken shawarma plate and some pita. The shawarma was dry, and the vegetables are different than they used to be. I was never asked which vegetables I'd like, and the new salads are an issue. One had chunks of lemon rinds in it!? Inedible and it blows out your pallet with raw lemon flavor. It literally hurt to chew it. It used to come with some hummus as well, but I guess that's not the case anymore. The sauces used to come on the side, now they were just layered on top of the meat and rice. That spicy sauce is a beast and really needs to be served separately. No onions, no pickled vegetables, no proper shawarma accompaniments. The pita was heated which was a nice touch at least. My friend got some of the new lentil soup, but I saw it come out of a microwave. Not flavorful, and apparently not even hot but barely warm. There was a coffee pot out filled with hot water but no coffee and a drink machine that looked unused sitting out as well. Not sure what's going on here but the place just feels sloppy and lazy now. The man working the counter was friendly enough but not half as inviting as the last guy. I'm not sure I'll be back at this rate, they really need to get their act together. read more

Stopped in for lunch to go. I got the chicken dinner bowl with chicken gyro meat. It was a lot of food and pretty tasty. I also got two falafel that tasted great, but were luke warm/not fresh. I can only imagine how good fresh falafel would be. (I dove right into the falafel as soon as I got in the car... if I waited until I got home I would understand the temp.) Food is ok, service and attitude is very bad. place is usually empty mid day lunch hour , when it's suppose to be busy. First of all, the inside of the business needs a facelift. It's confusing how to order and what you get with your order. They are big on price and low on taste. The meat was not cut (except the chicken). This place will not stay in business with the prices and quality. Stay away from the combo, it was horrible. The hummus does not come with extra pita....It's a lot (it should be for the price) but fell short on the pita. The desserts are packaged so you must by them for $6.99. Nope. The food is amazing. Many choices of salads. I really like the one with olives. I have not had their kinds of salads before. More unique than other Mediterranean restaurants. We stopped by Mr. Pita to grab a quick lunch while on our way up to Milwaukee for the weekend. Both are grilled pita sandwiches were delicious especially with the creamy garlic sauce. Also, tried some of the salads which were very fresh and tasty. Their falafel is some of the BEST I have ever had. It's so good dipped in the garlic sauce. On a scale of 1 to 10, the food is a 2 or 3 at best. Unfortunately, the customer service is horrible. The bald guy with the glasses is rude, unprofessional, and appears to not care for certain demographics. I've been here a few times, and tried to give it a chance because there aren't many (if any) Greek and/or Mediterranean restaurants in Lake County; but the poor customer service and borderline disrespect is a deal breaker. I'm not sure if this bald guy with the glasses is the owner, but he isn't the nicest person. I literally sat and watched him treat ten (10) people differently based on their race. Ok. The sandwich itself is like $6, which is a fair price. The sandwich was ok and the tahini and hot sauce were good. Hot sauce is quite hot - in a good way. For $4 extra I got the sandwich, drink, and fries. Should've stayed away from the fries, I know. Made the meal x bit too pricey for my liking. Not that.they skimped on serving size... just expected to be a bit less. Well, I think the fries were the frozen variety. Came out hot and crispy, though, which was nice. Mr. Pita is now under new ownership. The quality of the food is still top notch. The Jerusalem salad, Tabolueh salad, and the Mr. Pita Special salad were all excellent- super fresh, tons of great flavor, and just bright and satisfying. The hummus was citrusy and not heavy like hummus can sometimes be. The falafel sandwich was completely packed with various salads and was bursting at the seams- easily sharable as an app. The chicken shwarma was moist and flavorful and came with salads on the side. Again, a huge portion that easily made for leftovers for multiple meals. As someone else mentioned, the combination grill is actually whole cuts of beef and chicken and beef patties- I was used to chicken and beef shwarma with kifta kebabs, so that threw me off a bit. It was still very flavorful and a generous portion. One thing that caught us off guard was the fact they have a garlic sauce (it wasn't just toum, it may have had mayo in it?) they put on top of all the meat. I'm used to having toum, hotsauce, and tahini on the side, so that was unexpected. As with most restaurants, the prices have gone up as the costs to operate have gone up as well. We'll definitely be back again, but will make sure to ask for sauce on the side and stick with the shwarma and falafel. My boyfriend couldn't stop talking about this place and he finally took me for dinner last night! All I can say is BEST falafel I have ever had hands down. Normally, I'm not a fan of falafels as they are very dry and sometimes hard to eat, this one however had a perfect crunch on the outside and the inside was so good and perfectly moist. They have a wide range of sides and sauces to go on top of your pita. We purchased two pitas on the side and I was able to get 2 meals out of one platter. It was very filling. Not to mention, the customer service was awesome! We unfortunately did not have any masks on-hand and one of the employees gave us one each. They also had disposable gloves and a trash can sitting outside the door so we didn't have to touch anything! I will definitely be returning.
