I have been here a couple of times and both the times I have had good service and food. In my two visits, the following is what I have ordered: 'What The Flame' burger Thai + Coconut milk tea with lychee & coconut jelly Cheeseburger Spicy BBQ wings Chicken Rice Bowl w/o their red sauce Hot Chick sandwich All the food was good. I liked all the dishes I tried. The What The Flame burger, Chicken Rice Bowl, and the Hot Chick sandwich were my favorites. The spicy bbq wings were well cooked, saucy, and had a good flavor but they weren't quite spicy. The Thai Coconut milk tea was decent. I like this place and will be going back again. The store's name Buns on Fire intrigued me, as there are many images that came to mind. I have to assume that it's because of the burgers, of course. This is a small place, maybe 5-6 tables, and decorated in a futuristic-videogame-graffiti-vibe. It's new, the manager told me it's been open about a week, and it's located by Mariano's. We tried the boba, because we already ate lunch. I ordered a coconut strawberry matcha with boba (one free topping) and my friend ordered a bobaholic, a brown sugar milk tea. We ordered at the counter but later noticed there was a self service kiosk on the side. The staff was friendly enough, the drinks took a little longer than expected, but we cut them slack because the place was new. My drink was nothing extraordinary--the label, contrary to the menu--was listed as mango strawberry. I did taste a slight strawberry but definitely no mango or matcha. I tasted my friends drink and it was ok, sweet but not strongly flavored. We both agreed that the tapioca was great, with a nice chewy texture. We did notice several groups come in as we were leaving. It's cute, it's new, it's freshly decorated. I would have to come back to try a burger. Tried this place on grand opening day as the name intrigued me, and the promo content I saw on instagram had my mouth watering. We ended up getting a plethora of items such as the gyro & chicken rice bowl, their chicken bites, the fries, and the banana pudding. Rice bowl had some great seasoning to it, and it all blended well together. The chicken bites had a nice kick to them, and it came with a mayo based sauce for dipping on the side. Seasoned fries were a slight disappointment, but I chalk it up to it the place being packed to the gills on opening day. All in all the food was good and I would be back to order more. As I had said previously, I came here on opening day, and the lines were long and a bit chaotic inside as you couldn't tell there were 2 ways to order. One was the guy at the register, and another was a kiosk off to the side. Food took a bit longer to get out due to the backlog of people in the vacinity. This is one of the best hot chicken sandwiches in the North suburbs. With some hot chicken sandwiches, you get just the hot and no flavor, but not with the Hot Chik. I will say, I always eat this at home because you will absolutely spill sauce all over yourself (or maybe I'm just a savage? who's to say!) Special shout out to the special they run with fries and a drink - the seasoned fries are also so tasty. The onion rings are decent. The breading is baked instead of deep fried (at least that's what it seems like) so it's easier to fall apart, but less of that straight up grease taste. Overall, for something that's more elevated than a fast food place, the prices are incredibly reasonable. The employees are always quick and get the order right - even assured me when I ordered the first time that I wouldn't burn my mouth off. This place is strange. They sell burgers and boba tea. I had a grilled chicken sandwich. I was decent. The crazy thing about this place is the ambiance. The walls a spray painted. The artist did a nice job, must the music they were pumping out in the background was Jazz music. Not like remixed jazz music, jazz music you'd hear in an elevator or a dentist office. It struck me as a very strange combination. When we walked in the server had said they'd been open for 6 months, but all of the Costco jumbo sized ketchup bottles they had on the tables were still sealed. Which means they've never been opened, for 6 months. The whole thing was just strange. The food was good for a burger and fries place, so give it a shot. Really appreciated the fact that the food is freshly prepared and comes out piping hot. The fries were really good, nicely seasoned and not greasy at all, actually a bit crunchy to perfection. My wife and I stopped by this spot after checking out "Everything Games" in the same plaza. We were looking for a spot to get a smoothie or something to drink, so we saw this place had boba and went for it. Unfortunately, our experience wasn't great. The store looks great as far as vibe and decor, but when we approached the counter the clerk was making some drinks. There was a QR code menu that we browsed, and the clerk stated we could also use the self-service kiosk. We told her we were new to the place and she directed us to the QR code menu. We ordered the lychee mango smoothie with rainbow boba and the pina colada smoothie. It took longer than anticipated for the clerk to make two drinks, especially considering there were multiple blenders to use but they only used one I get not wanting to clean, but there were only two other patrons in the store and they already had their items. After waiting for a while for our drinks, we finally received them and went on our way. When I tell you the pina colada drink I had was terrible, I mean it. It was bland, didn't taste like pineapple whatsoever, but a weird creamy mush. My wife was drinking her drink when she tasted something odd, and pulled a sliver of metal from her mouth. METAL IN HER SMOOTHIE. See the included pictures if you don't believe me. This is incredibly dangerous and we will certainly never be coming here again! An awesome hang out an 'after shopping spot' for a quick burger, fries and lots of snacks to munch on. For me 'WTF' burger sealed the deal with mouth watering fries. All the burgers are Zabiha halal so that is an added bonus. The cherry on the top is their breakfast special on the weekends 'the Halwa puri nashta' along with lassi or tea. I tried their strawberry lassi instead of the typical mango lassi being offered ( I find mango lassi to be too sweet ) Strawberry lassi is a great blend of just the right sweet taste. The service was wonderful and the person who took our order did a great job to describe the flavors and heat levels of things. It didn't take too long to get our food at all and it was picture perfect looking. The burger was super juicy and flavorful. We went with three boba smoothies (honeydew, passionfruit, and brown sugar) and all three met our expectations for $5.99/cup at a burger joint that offers boba. The food was flavorful and had a fun kick to it. There are so many odd things about this spot. Two stars because I genuinely feel they want to be good and their burgers are a 7/10 but ketchup and lettuce are your only toppings if you want a non-spicy burger. Here's my notes/opinion for improvements. You have wings, burgers and hot chicken as your main menu items but cocktail napkins to eat with. Your non-alcoholic drinks can be found in your mini fridge and your choices were Coke, Costco bottled water, and something else I didn't recognize. 3 options. You're in the suburbs and don't have anything catered for younger kids except the adult cheeseburger which may be fine but still an odd choice. There was no sound inside, just silence. For a fairly vibrant decor, no sound was just awkward. Your boba is made from powder, not fresh fruit per your website. When people weren't ready to order, you retreated to the kitchen. Being new, encourage your customers to try the menu or ask questions. Just a strange dining experience overall. There sure are a lot of first time reviewers giving 5 stars on google. read more

Love this place! The restaurant is clean, the decor is cool, and the food is fresh. I tried a cheese burger and a chicken sandwich. Both were delicious and wanted two more of each. They were also not greasy. The chicken wasn't breaded either, but was seasoned perfectly. The service is friendly and professional, and serves you as well as busses their own tables. I had a good (but really messy) chicken sandwich. The star of the show was the onion rings. It is difficult to find good rings around here but this place had them. I was the only customer here besides a large group of what appeared to be work friends. They were so loud that it was almost painful. I don't hold the restaurant responsible for that, but know the acoustics are less than ideal. My food took quite a while to come out considering mine was the only order pending. I think it was partially because the guy working the register, cleaning the tables, and doing the cooking were all the same guy. We were excited to see this coming, and after two visits have realized this is unfortunately not likely to last long as there's a clear lack of customer service. On the first visit we tried a couple of burgers and fries to go. The fries were excellent, however the burgers were just OK - better than McDonald's or Burger King, but not as good as Five Guys. They have options of white sauce or red sauce but no good description of what to expect with either one which is odd (it's what prevented us from ordering online closer to when they opened because we had no idea what to expect from those unhelpful sauce names.) we decided we'd try again, because we really want to support local restaurants and see them succeed. A month later i stopped by to give it a second try around 12:30pm on a weekday. There were several teens seated and eating at a large table, but no employees to be seen and another customer standing confused at the counter. When i approached the counter i saw a sign directing us to use the "self-service" order terminal. The other customer had been trying, but couldn't figure it out and asked me to try so he could learn from me. The terminal wasn't set to accept orders, but rather was on an employee check-in/login screen prompting us to enter our ID. When i told the other customer the terminal clearly wasn't in a mode to take orders, he shouted out towards the kitchen a couple of times to see if we could get a human to come out. After a couple of minutes, i gave up on waiting and walked next door to Mariano's for lunch. The other customer quickly gave up as well and followed me to Mariano's. With a lack of any front-of-house presence and a non-functioning "self-service terminal", customers have no choice but to walk out the door and try another place. I don't know if they're going to be able to get their act together if they can't staff appropriately at lunchtime. I really wanted to like this place, but alas, it's clear they lack adequate business acumen. read more
