Disgusting. Ordered on Grubhub.... Their pickle plate came without the pictured olives, so false advertising there. Sat down to try the rest of the meal and it was gross. Hummus drowning in a loose green snot-like sauce. Shawarma sandwich was cold and tasted inedibly disgusting. Gave it a few bites but something was definitely way off with it. This review is for carry out. 3.5 rounding up to 4. We were craving Mediterranean food and decided to try a new place by us. Looking at the reviews and pictures we decided on Shawarma King. We ordered online for pick up and arrived there about 15 minutes later as it said it would be ready. It was ready shortly after. We got everything we ordered in the bag with extra utensils. The portions are huge and enough to share! We got the mixed grill plate so that we had the opportunity to try a little of everything. Along with a side of the lamb and chopped salad. We loved that they packed the hummus on the side so that we were able to reheat and enjoy the hot stuff while keeping it cold. The chopped salad was great in flavor and a side portion is huge. Some of the meats were a bit dry along with the rice. But overall decent in flavor. I think next time we'll just get the shawarma and skip the rest. Overall a great experience, and would recommend for anyone craving Mediterranean. read more

My hubby and I were drivin' home from Michigan to Wisconsin and made it a point to stop at the Shawarma King in Gurnee (this was our second time, and y'all, it was just as amazing as the first). We had the chicken shawarma wraps with fries and that garlic sauce... Lord have mercy, it's so good I'd put it on just about anything. The falafel was tasty, and the tahini sauce was the perfect match. The hummus was smooth and flavorful and had their special sauce in the middle and was served with their homemade pita bread! It was that soft, fresh pita--like nothin' I've ever had. You can tell everything's made right there in the kitchen with a whole lotta love for their customers. The gentleman runnin' the place is just the nicest guy--genuine, kind, and proud of his food (as he should be!). We'll definitely be stoppin' by again next time we're passin' through. read more

So my old go-to shawarma place changed hands not long ago and it just wasn't even half as good anymore. Thankfully yelp knows all and I found this spot not far at all from the last one! I really enjoyed my meal here. I got the mixed shawarma plate which came with rice, "salad", and hummus. I also got an order of falafel. To finish I grabbed an imported drink from Lebanon. The pros: The chicken shawarma was excellent, exactly what I want and expect from a good shawarma. Well seasoned with the right thickness and texture in each bite. The rice was a perfect vessel for the shawarma and onions. The falafel was great! Definitely fresh as it was steaming when I bit in. Great flavor and perfectly fried. The drink was about 5 bucks, which is a steep price for 1 soda, but its imported after all and it's got quality ingredients. It was tasty and they have more flavors to try! (I got lime kiwi) The place is clean with complimentary water available. The guy running things, and all the workers really, have a great attitude. The way they interact with customers is top notch service, other businesses should take notes. The cons: I didn't love the beef shawarma, it was just a bit soft and not what I want texture wise. The hummus was fine but lacked seasoning. The "salad" was just slaw and pickles, which honestly works for me, the acid is much needed with the richness of the shawarma and sauce, but I don't think I'd call that a salad. Side of pickles is more accurate. The pita wasn't fresh or warmed, so it wasn't very appetizing. I ordered a falafel wrap with fries. We also ordered the hummus side and a piece of baklava to share (again--ravenous). Everything was pitch perfect and over-the-top delicious. The falafel was the perfect texture (not a bit dry!) and the fries were well seasoned. The hummus was also incredibly flavorful. The baklava was, of course, a sweet dream. However, after I tried the filet mignon kebab, I'm going to visit then each and every time I'm in the area. The meat was lovely and tender. The rice had great texture and was full of flavor. Came here in the evening after a long busy day at work. My sister and brother in law were both so impressed about this place and said I had to try it. We came in and it wasn't that busy about 3 people were dining in. Place is small with the front man and the cook. It was clean and the food aroma smelled good. We ordered a couple things including the baba ganoush which is one of my favorite things to eat. Everything was great but was not impressed with their baba ganoush, it was rather disappointing bland, I couldn't taste any flavor, and it looked very liquid or watered down. It is not the kind of baba ganoush I am used to, maybe it's the type of baba ganoush where they are from but it's a no for me. But everything else was flavorful.
