It's true, I have a keen "ear" for rascally spots in every neighborhood of the world. it must've been the tuba, snare, muted trumpet, and hyena laugh of the Mexican Ranchero music that brought me here from my motel a mile away at the edge of Highland on a Sunday morning. I was the sole customer at 10 AM on a Sunday; even the waitress left for a back room. I became lost in a huevos rancheros/ ranchero music reverie, when the rest of Denver was either at church or at the A.M. happy hour at Baron's? Who knows. Anyway, I was lost in my solitary ranchero reverie when the chef himself burst out of the kitchen, booming "HOW IS EVERYTHING, AMIGO?" I spilled my OJ as if I had just been slapped on the back. The rest of the food menu looked very authentic- pastor and barbacoa as would-be yelpster favorites, "lengua" amongst the choices that most yelpsters would likely leave alone; and something called "sado" which even Google can't help me with. Apparently the specialty is the pibil/tacos yucatenos, which is shredded pork cooked in banana leaves. if i e'er make it back to Denver, I'll have to come back for that. Despite all these options, the chef, cashier, and someone else (ranchero DJ?) bypassed the menu and sat down to heaping plates of papaya. Despite the Sunday morning loneliness, this place looks like it has known some festive moments. Orange, yellow, and blue paint looks like it was slapped on the wall in about five minutes by drunk patrons. Happy "hour" extends from 4 pm until closing. Never go grocery shopping on an empty stomach. This place is conveiently located right next to Safeway. In the summer they have a stand outside with $1.50 soft tacos. They warm a little tortilla on a hot plate with butter and fill it with yumminess. "the cheaper the better" is usually a recipe for disaster for...just about everything. Surprisingly, their cheap-as-dirt breakfast burritos here are awesome! I'd take an Araujo's over Santiagos any day of the week. At $1.50 each, I don't know how they can stay open. Araujo's is definitely a breakfast joint. They're open until 2 for lunch, but it's not very memorable. The burritos are where it's at. Their green chile is really great and complements the burrito perfectly. I'd recommend getting 2 or 3 at most; they're surprisingly chock-full of goodness. Before you get in the 10-car deep line at Santiagos, head 2 blocks to Araujo's instead; you won't be disappointed. read more

Amazing neighborhood restaurant! We started going there for the delicious $2 breakfast burritos, and now we typically go once a week for dinner as well. Very casual, family run, delicious and authentic food. All the usual bottle beers you would expect (Pacifico, modelo, etc). read more

Their food is great but not this time, and very disapointed on how they handle it. The food was not close as expected, no chicken in the caldo tlalpeño, they were only bones and a whole lot of vegetables and no tortillas sent when I asked and payed for them. When I called to explained my concern, they said that they had sent tortillas and they didn't know why I didn't get them, and they did nothing in regards to that, nor to my concern of the food. I'm still loving Araujo's taquitos. All day Monday-Friday, 4 for $5, what's not to love? It's all good, but the pastor is best. The people are so friendly and attentive there. I love their tortilla chips, and of course the cerveza is nice and cold. Ask for the red salsa with your tacos -- it's homemade and to die for. I took a group of out-of-town friends there -- they all enjoyed the dinner plates they had -- Araujo's does some interesting, authentic things with chicken, etc if you're not in the mood for taquitos. I should preface this with the fact that I am no mexican food connoisseur, as much as Doug has taken me to his favorite picks, and the fact that I live two blocks off of Federal. I tried the breakfast here last year and was not too impressed. Typically, on my laziest of evenings, it's a Chipotle burrito. Since they've started putting up the tent out in front of Araujo's, I find myself stopping by and picking up a few tacos to go... I don't necessarily know what I am ordering. I don't know what they're asking me to put on the tacos, but I continue to comeback, shake my head, "yes - sure" and have settled on a few "El Pastor to go". At a buck fifty a piece, it makes for an easy, quick dinner that is pretty tasty to me. The hot green sauce is just about the hottest I've had. Too much and it renders the tacos tasteless, so don't overdo it... read more

If consistency is your thing, this might not be your place. Their breakfast burritos are decent. However, when you ask for it to be hot, that's pretty much a crap shoot. I have have had some that were somewhat hot. Have always had some, that tasted as if there was no green chile (hot) included. This after asking for "hot" green chile. This happens almost half the time. Almost as if the "chef" just reads the ticket, and says to himself, "I'll make it however the heck I want to make it". And it's mostly good. Just not always hot when you request. For fifty cent more, if you can endure the wait, Santiago's around the corner, will make it hot (lots of HOT green chile). read more

We went for a relatively early lunch before the Rockies game on Sunday. When we got there after finding parking on a nearby street that didn't have a permit restriction, we found an interesting mix of other restaurant patrons. There was a large family of seemingly Hispanic people, which I thought was a good sign, but there were also a few tables of people that looked like they just wanted cheap beer and maybe didn't have regular residences. Anyway, we sat down and were greeted by a young waiter with menus. We looked over the menus and then wandered over to size up the buffet, which included food that I didn't recognize along with wafer cookies that a guy at another table was definitely enjoying. Chips and salsa were brought to our table, which was appreciated. I ended up ordering the chicken enchiladas suiza, and my boyfriend got a combo plate with a crispy chicken taco, pork tamale, and beaf and bean burrito with sides of rice and beans. Everything was ok. I was fairly happy with my entree, but the boyfriend thought his food was bland. I did taste his taco, and while I like crunchy tacos, I know there's not much to them--this one wasn't any different. His beef and bean burrito didn't have a lot of beef, but again, I didn't think it tasted really bad, just kind of plain. The other patrons were interesting if not outright entertaining, but I'll admit that I winced a bit when our food was brought out by a waitress that had obviously been assaulted. Her face was visibly black and blue even under her heavy makeup. She smiled and was friendly, but I can't imagine that she wasn't in some pain. I'm not sure we'd plan on going back, but if we were really hungry and in the neighborhood, we wouldn't seriously avoid Araujo's. Just so you know, it's now painted green on the outside! read more

Burritos with chile for $1.50?! Had my first Den-Mex burrito here. Went with bean & potato, although there were at least 5 options for breakfast (some with eggs/meat etc). Had half & half chile (half hot, half mild) which was a perfect balance of spicy & sweet. The portion was more generous than I would imagine for $1.50, too. The menu was expansive and affordable also. Kicker was the line ... there was no line ... as opposed to Santiagos, which wrapped up around 27th Street on the day we were there. read more

AMAZING! First and foremost, dont judge this place by its appearance. While not much to look at, it is worth stopping for! So far, we have only had the fajitas and they are just phenomenal! My brother has also had other dishes on the menu and finds them equally as good. Would - and do - plan on going back. Side note - while the dishes are amazing, the fried ice cream leaves a little to be desired. It more or less seemed as though the ice cream was rolled in stale cereal. Best breakfast burritos in Denver!! I've tried many. Was able to get an order of 22 by calling in 20 minutes before and they were incredibly helpful with the large order- even on a really busy morning. Everyone at the office loved them- meat, veggie and the breakfast bowl. Just ask for a burrito with no tortilla, in a bowl and your gluten free office mates can enjoy. We ordered 4 breakfast burritos to go and end up with two breakfast and two bean burritos (at least I think that's what they were). Definitely had way better breakfast burritos at other places. This place is right around the corner from my house and I've eaten here several times. The food is always very good as is the service. I did a side by side comparison of Santiago's and Araujo's breakfast burritos one morning, I think Araujo's are the clear winner. They are bigger with seemingly better ingredients. However, their 1/2 and 1/2 green chile isn't quite as spicy. They are also $0.50 less! read more

Delicious breakfast burritos. Better than Santiago's. The green chile is very authentic tasting. The menudo comes with actual beef feet on the side. They give you lime instead of lemon, which is even more authentic. The prices are very reasonable. I got 1 large menudo, 2 burritos, and 2 tamales for 14 bucks. You can' t beat that. It's not close to South Denver, where I live, but I am willing to make the drive. They are also so nice. Not sure why anyone would say a bad thing about these guys, unlike Santiagos, they are made to order and you can see them frying up the eggs and potatoes while you order. It's awesome. read more

2 for 1 house margaritas every day 3pm-6pm, the time was extended to 7pm the day I went. The street tacos are amazing! I ordered the Taco de Pescado with beer battered tilapia and the "Alhambre". Time and time again I come back here and it's not because I live 2 blocks away. Their nachos Araujos rocks and so doesnt their chile relleno plate. Funny that one Yelper said this place sucked. There's an old saying that goes.. "When it's everyone else, it's you". The best thing about this place is when you order something for takeout and show up at the prescribed time, its ACTUALLY READY. As a note, only been here for breakfast. It's a small restaurant that does the breakfast burritos a la Santiago's. However, unlike Santiago's, they do a great job of making them taste great. The menu varies during the week for the $2 grab and go burritos, but it seems like they have a good selection as well as non-meat selections.
