I have a confession. I've been courting a new lover, and I haven't told you about it. I just really had to know this was the real deal, that it was serious. So, to all my other loves, you all are not going to see me for a while. Yep, I'll be around, just too "busy working" to hang together. I'll be eating Pechuga Rellena- a chicken breast stuffed with good ham, and cheese, then wrapped with BACON, and griddled till the bacon is perfectly done, smothered in an awesome sauce. Or I may be gettin my hands dirty with the Tacos De Alambre, steak, bacon, ham and cheese, grilled all, and stuffed in soft corn with guac (Oh man this guac!) radish and cilantro. This is gonna be a long, slow affair. This is the kind of passion that they write about in those books I don't usually read. The chilpotle sauce on the Puntas A La Diabla, is......I just can't, just try it, you'll see.. The first time we met, it was a torrid afternoon full of beef, beer, and corn. 3 hours of bliss. There have been several dates since then, and several spontaneous rendezvous. But today on the way home from lunch of Thai food, I smelled those tacos 2 blocks away, and just couldn't say no any longer. i finally made it over here. i was starting to become pretty disgusted with myself for not trying it out, after all of these years and was excited after reading some of the yelps. however, i think araujo's needs to come back down to earth a bit here. i think a 4.5 yelp rating is a little carried away in my opinion. it was decent, but i've had better quite frankly. i know, opinions are like assholes. everybody's got one and everyone thinks everyone else's stinks. i just think that carboncitos or patzcuaros kicks the crap out of this place. it certainly wasn't a bad meal, but the comparables are just better. i did however like the restaurant itself. i was truly surprised at how nice and clean it was on the inside. you never know what you're going to get walking into a place like this... read more

Araujo's is like many other Mexican restaurants in West Denver, except that they serve cochinita pibil. This awesome pork dish from Yucatan comes in a radiant red due to the use of achiote seeds. Araujo's serves their cochinita pibil as shredded pork with a plate of beans, rice, tortillas, and a traditional helping of pickled red onions (which are actually pink). The pork is tender, sweet, spicy, and simply yummilicious. By nature of serving this one dish, Araujo's becomes a worthwhile stop. Not feeling the love for this place. I asked if they had hot green chili because I like it hot. I was told they did but my breakfast burrito had zero heat. The burrito was just meh, no wow factor at all. I also tried a taco, flavorless taco and flavorless salsa. The place seemed kinda dingy to me. Let me start by saying I reallllly wanted to like this spot. I came right after work, about 5:45 PM and I was the only customer. I ordered the Casero taco, al pastor taco, and the asada taco. Both green and red salsas were delicious. However, there was nothing fresh about these tacos. Everything was dry and just wasn't appealing to look at. The "Steak" was more like ground beef and I didn't finish the Casero (chicken) because there's no doubt it was canned chicken or at least resembled and tasted like it. Bland and zero flavor. The al pastor was ok, texture was a little weird but had decent flavor. Maybe I came at an odd time but mostly likely won't be going back unless for breakfast. read more

$1.50 breakfast burritos were the real deal. Nice spicy/heat level on the hot version. Exceptional for the price. Good value at a higher price if they raised it. They were the smaller size though, not the jumbo "burro" that you often get a mexican places. So, it's easy for a hungry person to eat 2. This place has the BEST $2 breakfast burritos in town! My boyfriend and I walk here on Saturday mornings to get burritos to go. Service is usually very quick and the breakfast burritos are to die for. They are the perfect size, wrapped in foil and the tortillas literally melt in your mouth. I usually get the chef's daily special. My boyfriend usually gets the daily special and adds chorizo or bacon to his burrito for a couple bucks more. They are closed on Sunday which is a bummer but sometimes will get a few extra to go and they reheat really well! read more

The customer service is frustrating (I always feel like a burden to the cashiers even when I'm just ordering a bean burrito), the credit card minimum is frustrating ($5-6), the 15-20 minute wait for one bean burrito regardless of how busy (or slow) it is, is frustrating (because there's always just one cook by the looks of it), this place just feels really inefficient, and makes me rethink going there again. read more

Excellent Mexican food here. I have only occasionally had trouble with the service, and that was due to that particular waitress having difficulty understanding English. Otherwise, the service is uniformly excellent. They put key lime juice in the guacamole! (I can taste it -- it's a distinct flavor). They use oil to cook the quesadillas! And they've got some great combinations you can't find elsewhere. Quite affordable, this is the place to go if you want primo Mexican food. read more

I really like this joint. The carnitas here are amazing! The tacos al carbon are not quite as mouth watering as a few other of my favs around town, but this is our fall back place for sure! This is a fantastic neighborhood mexican joint. I'm a fan of La Loma and Rosa Linda's etc. This place has great red and green chili. I judge most mexican restaurants by their Carne Asada and this place was no disappointment. I just parked in the Safeway parking lot and got some groceries after, which was convenient. I live 2 blocks from here, aren't I so spoiled? I decided to ordered carry out on a saturday night. I got the mexican plate because I wanted to try a bit of everything. It said it came with guac, tomato and lettuce, but it was missing from my plate. I also should have remembered to order sour cream. I wasn't crazy about the red sauce, can't really tell you why, it just tasted funny. I thought the beans kinda tasted funny to me too, but they were smothered in lots of cheese and I loved that. What I was crazy about is the chili relleno. Yum! I will get this again, but smothered in green chili. Now after reading the reviews, I would also try the carnitas. Good value for the money, sizable portions, walking distance from home, I will try it again for sure. read more

Came here for supreme breakfast burritos. Took 30 mins to get out horchata. Another 10 mins to finally order. Another 15 mins to get the food. Not packed at all. Only three tables were seated including my group of four. Food wasn't great what do ever, del taco blows them out of the water. There are two of these listed on Yelp with the same address and a few of us have reviewed this place with the same enthusiasim! This place is awesome. A truly authentic Mexican food joint complete with sponge painted multi-colored walls (although they are starting to change the decor a bit) and waitresses who speak limited English. However, don't let that scare you cause chances are, if you're anything like me (despite living on the Northside), their English is better than my Spanish. I usually go here for breakfast but have spent many a night eating and drinking into the night. My favorite thing for breakfast is the chilaquiles rojo with all the fixings. It is delicious! A awesome combination of freshly friend tortillas chips, two eggs, chicken, sour cream and all topped with their awesome chili rojo or verde (both are delicious)! I moved to 25th and Eliot in January, and why it took me so long to go here I have no idea. I do know that I've been damning myself for the past week for not going there sooner as they have the most delicious smothered burritos I've had since I moved to Colorado. I honestly can't even think of a burrito I had in New Mexico that was as scrumptious as the ones at Araujo's! Chicken, carnitas, carne asada, but the best is the chile relleno burrito. How can you go wrong with an entree stuffed in a tortilla with beans and more cheese? So freaking good. Pretty solid Mexican food with it's pluses and minuses. Plus, homemade corn tortillas. Minus, bland, funny tasting rice. I got the Cochinita Pibil, a nicely season pork dish with some bright, red, pickled onions. I recall getting this same dish at Taqueria Patzcuaro and it was much better, but still pretty decent here. I've got 30 more Mexican/Latin restaurants to visit in the Denver area, so I probably won't be coming back to this one. But if I lived down the street, I could see frequenting this place on a semi-regular basis. read more

Move over La Loma.... you got some competition!! I love this place! I noticed it directly across from Safeway and had been wanting to try it, but never had the time. But I made a special point to try it out with a co-worker a couple of months ago. We arrive to an empty house. THe waitress was very friendly. She tells us that they have a lunch buffet for $6.99. THe lunch buffet is splendid and everything tastes awesome!! Tamales, enchiladas suiza, sopas, etc. You name it!! THe lunch buffet changes daily so its never the same day to day. But that wasn't even the awesome part of it. The best thing is thier carne asada tacos. 4 very generous tacos with fresh lime served in homemade corn tortillas for only $5!! Yeah that's right $5!! It's the best tasting and best value Denver has to offer!! read more
