11 months since my last review and every massage therapist that I've had have been amazing but my absolute favorite is Paola. I did recently have an experience I didn't like at another massage place and I suppose they are hardworking ppl not machines thank goodness and so instead knocking the other place I truly have to say all my massages here were more worth the healed experience, yes I highly recommend the 90 minutes, they truly get to do all the tricks they know when you specifically tell them you're pain points. I think I'm a veteran and yet I tell myself during every session, trust the process and, well, I do always consider myself one of the lucky ones... to even get an appt that moment that I wish I could do standing appts... One time I treated my dear friend here and we had amazing massaged but i actually didn't like how the male receptionist was so no chalant & our cash tips were gone the instant I put it down. He told me he put it in an envelope with their names and I get it I used to be a day spa FD. If you want to get a great Thai massage, do not come here. I came here a couple of times and enjoyed the massage so I decided to book one for my husband. I let the spa know that upon booking. The spa texted me 2 hours before the massage to confirm and then told me they would cancel my appointment if I didn't confirm within 30 minutes. Used to be a good place but had the worst massage experience ever today. The masseuse was using very light pressure with her hands but super hard with her feet. Kept the room really cold with air conditioning. Somehow feeling a lot worse after the massage. Used to like this place. Such a shame! Want to add a little more detail here: The masseuse wanted to turn on the air conditioning saying it was too hot. So it didn't leave me much of an option. I did mention I wanted a little less than hard pressure even after that, the feet were very hard and by hand it was very light almost as if the masseuse had no interest in massaging. I did had to ask her to increase the pressure. There was no acknowledgment. Another thing I noticed was she seemed annoyed that I booked 2-hour sessions. I've now been to Arawan twice - the first time for couples swedish massage which was wonderful and a second time for an office syndrome massage which was just okay. The couples massage was great! When we arrived, we were asked to fill out a questionnaire with a lot of detail around focus areas, spots to avoid, etc. I had specified relaxation with a little therapeutic massage, focus on back/shoulders, and moderate pressure usage. We really enjoyed the experience and both masseuses communicated throughout the experience regarding pressure, any pain points, and checking if we wanted a head massage prior to touching our hair with oiled hands. Note, the oil they use smells wonderful if you get a scented option but it is pretty thick so it does take some time to wash away- pick the lotion if you want something non heavy. The office massage was my second visit which i booked because of how much we liked the first appointment and I had some shoulder tension. This experience was very different. When I arrived I checked if I needed to fill out any forms like the previous visit. I was told that it was not needed as it wasn't my first visit. Knowing they were using the old forms potentially, I let the masseuse know as soon as she arrived that I would prefer lotion only instead of oil for this appointment. She promptly proceeded to apply oil to my back. When I reiterated lotion only please, she did not clear the oil but rather took additional lotion and mixed it all together. Also it seemed she was not aware of my preferences for moderate pressure from the questionnaire they said would be used from prior visits. The massage was actually slightly painful at certain points with heavy elbow usage until she heard me make a sound of discomfort. I will say she was good at pushing out certain knots in my shoulder blades with appropriate force but the pressure applied to my mid to lower back was not comfortable - especially given what massage preferences I had shared on the form originally. At the beginning of the visit, I was asked if I was okay with the masseuse walking on my back to which i had responded no. Despite this communication, she DID proceed to walk on my thighs and butt and tried to walk on my back until K had to stop her and reiterate no walking on my back. Lastly, without any communication, she proceeded to massage my hair with a combination of the oil and lotion she had used. Had she asked before initiating that, I would have said no. I actually walked away from the visit with some soreness on my lower back that was not present pre-appointment. I'd be open to revisit this spot in the future again but it may be a while before that happens due to my latest experience. I really enjoyed my first visit and experience but the second visit was not at all what was expected and the communication was not there. Cost wise, they are exactly the right price point but the experience can vary. I would say it's a hit or miss depending on the masseuse you are assigned. read more

I have tried all of the high-rated Thai Massage in the South Bay over the years and have chosen Arawan for my weekly massage because of their consistently high quality work and customer service. I have severe tightness on the right side of my body that require acupuncture and Thai massage weekly for the last dozen years. In my experience at Arawan, I have always been asked which area of the body to work more on, how much pressure to use, if the room temperature is comfortable and if there is "pain or tickle" when I experience sensitivity. There was aromatherapy and hot stones and some deep tissue work but in the end I felt super relaxed and loose afterwards so mission accomplished. Although the website advertises $93, they charged me $99, plus a minimum 17% tip. The massage itself was horrible. Halfway through the massager leaves the room without a word and is gone for several minutes while I wait in confusion. Then the lights come on and she brings her boss in. "Do you have an allergy?" the boss asks. I don't know, I said. "Your back looks really red." I don't know what she's doing and I can't see. I am not a massage therapist and don't know what she did since my eyes were closed and I was not in the mood for a "performance" during the massage. These massage therapists have a responsibility to ensure they are not using harmful lotions or harmful techniques. I am not a licensed massage therapist and should not be tasked with another responsibility during the massage. I have enough stress in my life already. This totally ruined the vibe and the massage was so horrible it should have been free. Don't go there, they don't know what they're doing and will damage your skin. read more

I've been here several times before. My previous experiences weren't amazing, but they were acceptable. However, today was very disappointing. I had this time was a Vietnamese woman, and unfortunately, she did a very poor job. I booked a 90-minute massage and specifically asked to focus on my neck and shoulders. Instead, she spent most of the time on my back, arms, and legs, and only a very small portion on my neck and shoulders. Halfway through, she asked me to turn over and asked if I wanted a head massage. I said yes, but it didn't feel like she had any real technique. She just rubbed my head and stroked my hair for a long time, which became uncomfortable. When I frowned, she asked if I wanted her to focus somewhere else, but even then, the massage felt rushed and careless. Near the end of the session, she stopped early and told me the time was done, while the therapist working on my husband was still continuing. It was awkward, and she even told my husband "thank you, you're done," which surprised both of us. Overall, it was a very bad experience. read more
