From the moment we arrived, the staff were warm and welcoming, offering champagne or sparkling water and giving us a full walkthrough of the space. The amenities really stood out. There's a cozy library area with unlimited snacks, water, and beverages, which made it easy to relax before and after the service. The women's changing room was spacious, clean, and thoughtfully stocked with everything you might need, like hair dryers, vanity stations, hair ties, lotion, Q tips, towels, slippers, and more. Everything felt well maintained and smelled nice. If you need to head out for any dates or event after receiving the service, you can do so easily here. I booked a deep tissue massage, and my masseuse Mila was fantastic, very kind, knowledgeable, and attentive. She asked where I wanted to focus and spent most of the time working on my back and shoulders, which I appreciated. The steam shower afterward was a perfect, relaxing bonus. There was a small mix up where my friend's fragrance allergy note got assigned to my therapist instead, and since many of the products used have fragrance, it made it harder for her to fully enjoy the experience. Every visit can vary slightly, but generally the service and atmosphere don't disappoint. I recently booked a Swedish deep tissue massage. It was good and relaxing, though I personally prefer a more intense, hard-core pressure session. That said, the therapist was professional and attentive. One thing I really love about this place is the thoughtful layout. I hadn't explored upstairs before, and I didn't realize how spacious it actually is. The individualized sauna after your service is such a great touch and really elevates the overall experience. Overall, I had an okay experience at the spa, and the staff and services were professional. However, I'm giving 3 stars instead of 5 because of the cancellation policy. As a first-time customer, I had to cancel my appointment just outside of the 24-hour cancellation window and reschedule - resulting in being charged the $40 fee. While I understand that businesses need policies in place, I was disappointed that there wasn't any flexibility to extend a one-time courtesy for a new client. A small gesture like waiving the fee for a first-time (unavoidable) situation would have gone a long way in making me feel valued rather than just another appointment on the schedule. It wouldn't have changed the policy for everyone, but it would have shown an understanding that unexpected circumstances outside of our control happen. While the service itself was fine, customer service is about more than what happens during the appointment. I hope they'll consider allowing a one-time exception for first-time clients in the future, as it's the kind of experience that builds long-term customer loyalty. My sister wanted to visit me, so I decided this would be a great time for a spa day. We stayed in San Jose on Santana Row, but I couldn't find any massages with a spa-like atmosphere with availability. After searching Yelp, I found The Spa. I sent an email requesting two appointments on 12/31 and I honestly expected no response because of the holiday. However, I got a call on Thursday at 9:42 a.m. letting me know my request was received and appointments were available for 4:45 p.m. on 01/03/24. Awesome! A credit card is required to book the appointment. This is a standard and understandable practice. The appointment booking was quick and efficient. My sister and I tried our absolute best to be at the spa 15 minutes before our appointment, but due to traffic, we got there right at 4:45. Argh. Still, everyone was polite and welcoming. After filling out the forms, we were walked back to the women's lounge/locker area. The locker area has all the essentials--blow dryers, lotion, mirrors, hair brushes, mirrors, etc. The library area has comfortable seating and a variety of snacks to choose from. If I recall correctly, you have access to infused water, tea, and coffee. Very cozy! I had a massage therapist named Kisha and my sister had Vera. Kisha was excellent. I like a firm massage and Kisha delivered. I told her I wanted her to focus on my feet, neck, and shoulders, and I thought she did an excellent job! The 65 minutes went by way too fast. My sister loved Vera and she was very thankful to have had Vera. My sister is a mom of four and this massage was important to her. After the massage, you have access to a steam shower. I didn't try it, but my sister did and enjoyed it. I look forward to visiting again. read more

It had been a while since I last visited this spa. Everything inside has remained the same for over 15 years, except for the staff. I recognize Patty, still the owner, at the front desk. My massage therapist for the day was Ruby. Ruby has been a longtime massage therapist, and her skills are clear. I only wish she hadn't talked so much during my 90-minute massage. Although she had a nice touch, I felt she lacked the precision needed to focus on the areas I asked for extra attention. The worst part of my experience was that Ruby started my massage long after I was on the table and finished it short of the 90 minutes. She managed to cut my massage by a full 13 minutes, which was a serious disappointment. The spa was not busy during the weekdays, especially in the AM. The highlight of my visit was the steam shower towards the end, which left me relaxed and made up for the shortened massage time. read more

Had a massage on Saturday. Had been going to this spa for many years. This visit was extremely disappointing. Early into the massage, there were small kids next door screaming and shouting and literally bouncing into the walls. Dads were participating and also having a great time shouting. The pounding and shouting certainly impacted the enjoyment of the massage. It was so bad, we moved to another room (which is very disruptive to the experience). The room at the other end was better, but about 20 minutes later, the kids and dads were running up and down the long balcony outside the window - screaming and shouting. The apologies and very small discount offered were not adequate for the disruptions and inability to relax. read more

First timer here. 90 min Signature Massage. My massage therapist Natalia was AMAZING!!! We checked in regarding aches & pains I've been having. She worked her magic, releasing so much built up stress in my neck and shoulders. I haven't felt that kind of relaxation in a long time! Thank you Natalia If you have aches and pains, ask for the Biofreeze and heat! Definitely helped ease some of those tight ones. The few times I went back to the men's changing room it had been reset, no dirty towels or robes, nothing on the floor, toilets clean, sink, counter top and mirrors clean. My husband came here after work because he wanted to surprise me with a gift. The moment he walked in a worker with an attitude said "are you sure you're at the right place" as if a younger Asian man can't buy gifts or want self care himself?? When he explained he wanted to buy a gift for me she just pointed to a wall. No empathy, no guidance, no help. He ended up walking out frustrated and empty handed. We are new to town and live nearby. Ladies, before deciding whether you want to visit this place or not - please read this. This review is a bit overdue, but it's worth sharing. The first thing that stood out about this spa is that this place is so old. It hasn't been renovated for decades. It feels dull and lifeless. Considering their prices, this is something you don't expect to see coming into a place like this. I came by to get a massage and a facial, so they took me to a room to get my massage first. I don't remember the masseuse's name, but it doesn't matter because the experience wasn't good. First of all, the lady was not nice or friendly to me. Definitely not your standard spa personnel attitude (like in Burke Williams or something similar). I'm not sure if it's the age difference, but I feel like she didn't care to be polite or respectful with me as I was much younger. The massage itself was mediocre. After it, the masseuse took me to a steam room and told me to use it for a couple of minutes. Let me tell you how unpleasant it was. Imagine a shower-sized "room" that you don't want to step in as it looks so old and gross. And it had no steam! I was so confused because why does a steam room has no steam? And why would they take me there knowing that? After I awkwardly spent a couple of minutes there, I left to the waiting area to prepare for my facial. Their waiting area has your spa-standard teas and snacks. During my facial, the cosmetologist (also don't remember her name) started asking me some questions about my personal life that seemed silly and unprofessional. She would repeatedly ask me about my private life, and I would just reply out of politeness. At the same time, she would not talk about the procedure itself. When she started applying one of the masks, I asked her what kind of mask it was (moisturizing, brightening, anti-acne..) and she replied: oh it's a good one, it smells sooo good. Uhh okay. If you are the one doing the procedure, applying stuff on people's faces, aren't you supposed to at least know what it is? Later on I asked a couple of more standard questions about the facial and realized she probably didn't know what she was doing/didn't have knowledge about cosmetology in general. The whole time I was taken aback by how bad the experience was. As a cherry on top, when it was the time to check me out the woman and a teenage girl at the reception did not acknowledge me when I came up and would ignore me for a bit even though no one else was there. Then, they acted like they were giving me a favor by checking me out. If you want your day to get ruined, waste your money, and waste your time this place is for you. Truly ridiculous... I got a hair mask here unopened and it says "The Spa Los Gatos" on the label. They wouldn't let me EXCHANGE it for the other mask. What a joke, really. I came here for years for my facial but they lost me as a customer and I'll be sharing this with the other 6 people I know who have been coming here as well. I understand if it was opened and used up that they wouldn't accept an exchange but it's wrapped up. About the place in general, the decor is from 1980s and crusty. Didn't take a photo as you shouldn't have your phone inside the spa for customer privacy. The front desk is a revolving door. They have more turnover than any place I've seen in this field. If you want a relaxing spa place, go somewhere more updated. I liked Jenny for facials so I kept coming here despite the decor and depressing ambiance. The paintings on the walls belong in Goodwill. Paint the walls a light gray, get some nice ocean pictures or something. This experience has officially ended me giving this place another chance. read more

I had a massage here with Debbie as my masseuse yesterday and it was truly such a relaxing and relieving experience. I have had many massages both locally and through my travels and I can whole heartedly say that she gave me the BEST massage I've ever had in my life. Not only is she professional, attentive, and aware of her clients needs but she really puts effort into the massage in a way that is one of a kind- she is a healer to her core. She intuitively knew what was going on in my body and I walked out of there blown away by her service. She was made to do this and has an incredible gift. Go to her- she will not disappoint! I forgot to write a review when I went here last March but wanted to be sure to give them credit for being a great spa! The entire experience, from the moment I stepped in the front door to the time I left, was exceptional. I received the 50-minute Signature massage which came with the steam shower. Upon entering, they checked me in and offered me a glass of champagne, which I gladly accepted. I was then taken to the locker room where I was able to change in privacy into my robe and then put my clothes in a secure locker. I then went to a dim room where I waited for my masseuse. While in the room, I had a selection of teas, juices and nuts to snack on. I poured some orange juice into my champagne to make a mimosa. Once I entered my massage room, they had 3 or 4 different oil scents for them. The message flew by so quickly and felt very nice - my masseuse used the perfect amount of pressure throughout the entire massage. I also appreciated that she didn't try to talk to me too much during the massage, as I wanted to be fully relaxed. After the massage, I was taken to my steam shower. I was given the choice to choose an essential oil in my steam room, which was a nice touch. I'll be honest, the steam room was intense and I probably won't do it again - you can't see much and it does get a little difficult to breathe. My mom & family decided to bring me here for a much needed girls spa day. We booked a few weeks in advance since it was 5 of us total looking to come at the same time. I was so excited to come here to relieve some stress & back pain/aches. I was about 10 mins late & the front desk employees were very nice and accommodating, she even rushed me to the changing room so I can get as much time as possible since I was late. Once changed into the robe I met up with my "massage therapist" I am disgusted to even give her that title. She seemed nice and pleasant at first asking me what I wanted to focus on. I specifically told her my shoulder and neck because I'm currently breast feeding and it's affecting my posture which is causing me pain. She said okay and let me undress and returned back to start her science experiment on me. While I was laying on the bed she told me she was going to use something called 'cup therapy' on me saying that it will help relieve the pain. I said okay because I did not know what cupping was and thought it was a massage technique. I have never heard of this service before and I thought I was in a "professionals" hands and that she had my best interest. I was so WRONGGGG!!! I am in tears as I am writing this review because I feel taken advantage of! The cupping & the massage was soooo painful, but I took it because I though it would be beneficial and help relieve my tension and pain. She was soooo rough and barely massaged me, instead used the cupping technique the entire time from my neck to my feet. I was not relaxed the entire time instead I was in excruciating pain and wishing it was over. Once the massage was over I was led over to the steam room and tried to relax, but I couldn't. I was in the steam and then went to the women's lounge where I met back up with my family. I looked in the mirror to my back and was in shock, so of course I started googling the service: cupping therapy & I did see all the supposed benefits it says it has so I just left it alone. I always was on a time restraint because I exclusively breast feed my daughter and I was planning to get back to her before her next feeding time. My mom paid for us and we left. Once I got home I started doing extensive research because my fiancé was so shocked by my back he almost cried he said it looks so bad and painful and was not expecting to see me return like that. What I found from my research is so disturbing. There are so many side effects & WARNINGS to NOT BREAST FEED AFTER THIS SERVICE. Are you kidding me????? My daughter has never had any formula of any kind and has only drank breast milk. I am appalled I am hurt & I am devastated right now. On top of that each massage ends with a steam shower, you are NOT supposed to shower or steam for 12-24 hours after a cupping therapy massage!!!! She did not warn me of any side effects before the service or after care instructions for after the service and there are so many! I've been coming to this spa for about 15 years and have always loved the experience. I still love the vibe and my massages have always been very good. I was shocked today by the 9% amenities fee for wine I did not drink, snacks I did not eat, tea, I did not drink. And although I did use the hairspray in the lounge, it was just the very last drop. I was lucky to get any out! I was mostly disappointed that I made a request on line for a 1 PM appointment. I received a phone message at 10:56 saying they only had 1:15 available and would I be OK with that? I called them back at 11:05 (9 minutes later) to of course accept the 1:15 PM start time only to find out that they had already given my spot away because they "do not save spots." The gal was short & curt when I expressed my disappointment with giving away this time away. My massage therapist was good. The spa vibe was, as always, excellent, but the now 9% amenities fee is ridiculous! I've been coming to The Spa for years, so I don't read the brochure, nor do I book on the website. The now 9% fee is crazy in order for you to offer wine, Costco snacks, and some tea! The cost of the services are already high and should cover the services you provide. At a minimum, the fee should be disclosed PRIOR to the services and when I call to make an appointment. Very disappointing that you expect customers to pay an exorbitant amount to cover your "extra" amenities. read more

TRIGGER ALERT: ABUSE, VIOLENCE Never written a review like this before. But I had a literal horror story here yesterday. The manager apologized, but unfortunately I still need to tell my truth here because considering what happened, far more should have been done (i.e. a follow up apology, communication about what action was taken, etc.) But that never happened, and so to hold them accountable, here's my story. A man named "Francisco" was scheduled to be my hairdresser, and as soon as I entered, he started yanking my long hair with a brush. It was so painful I almost screamed out in pain, but thought I was imagining it, since never have I been touched like that by anyone before. Holding in screams, I told him i'd like some layers please, after which he held my hair up and said, "your hair is a mess. Who did this to you?" I was speechless. My hair is healthy, long, and thick, me being a South Asian woman who's usually complimented to no end about my hair. I began wincing as he began his punishing strokes once again, which I also want to mention that you NEVER should do with long hair as it destroys the roots. Let me add here that i'm not one to ever complain or make trouble at shops/restaurants, and have had great relationships with all my hairdressers of the past, who were tender and even complimentary to my dense, long hair as a South Asian woman. (It's not like floor length either, just a little past my shoulders.) But it was clear that my thick hair was a total nuisance to him, and he took it out on me with painful strokes that made me squirm in my seat. It was flabbergasting. Finally after five minutes, I couldn't take it anymore, as it was clear the more I winced, the harder and faster he brushed, breaking my hair and pulling strands out. I politely asked if he could brush slightly softer. He paused, put down his brush, and said the following. "You have too sensitive of a scalp for me. I won't be doing your hair today." In tears and shaking, I lost it. I cried out about how horribly abusive he'd been to me, and asked him if he would have treated me this way had I been one of the mostly white women clientele who walked in to this expensive salon in an impossibly expensive, and obviously white zip code. How ironic, considering he himself is a Latinx man. He began to scream at me, and just then, to show him I wasn't going to take his attempts to terrorize me any longer, I called for the manager. A day later and i'm still shell-shocked, my trauma compounding, hoping justice is served and this man is fired and NEVER hired again. I invite the management to watch security footage to see what he did to me physically, where I legit am considering legal action. His behavior was the definition of "gaslighting", making a woman feel small and voiceless in the face of his toxic male ego, where for all his bravado, he didn't even know the bare basics of how to touch someone's hair that is long, thick, and South Asian. Shame on this salon if they enable this behavior any longer, and everyone reading this, do not condone this wicked man's actions by giving him business. I've been grieving and trying to dispel this man's words, but i've attached a photo here of my hair that has taken years to value and fall in love with, simply because of the way society demonizes the hair of women of color. My massage therapist was excellent and really listened to my needs. I'm sorry but I do t remember her name. I enjoyed the amenities while you are waiting for your therapist - cozy lounge with healthy snacks, fruit juices, water and an assortment of teas. We had our own lockers and given really fluffy bathrobes and slippers to wear. I was treated for the treatment but I know it was not inexpensive. But I think you get what you pay for. Ample parking but didn't know they shared spaces with Hapa's Bar so I parked in a city lot across the street. read more

Positives, the staff's overall friendliness & the steam shower is a nice bonus. The decor is a bit dated stuck in the early 90s. It could use a face-lift. I have been here multiple times and have expressed a few concerns at check out and to my therapists but no one addressed them. My first service was " the realm of roses" with an additional added deep tissue massage. My therapist was friendly and very informative. I learned that the products she was using were from bath and body works called English Rose. I'm sorry but why am I paying a fortune for this service and they're using cheap products on me instead of luxurious products I thought I would receive? I asked what product it was because I had previously received this same service pre-Covid and it smelled different. I don't use bath &body works products cause they tend to break me out, which did happen. Also, I booked a deep tissue massage and got a very light Swedish one. Not once was I asked what service I thought I was getting or asked hows the pressure. I felt odd to tell her myself as I felt kind of uncomfortable. My second trip I got the 90-minute deep tissue with a different therapist she did go deeper but still wasn't what I was expecting. During this second visit, I also booked a facial which was relaxing however in the room where the service was right below a bar. It was a Friday around 3-4 pm and all I could hear was chairs and tables screeching across the floor. I will never go at that time again It turned something comfortable at first into an uncomfortable one. Needless to say, I was a bit disappointed about the above situations. Especially because I did express my concerns while I was there and nobody addressed them. They really cared less because I think they knew this was a regular occurrence on Fridays/Saturdays at that time of day but I cared. I was advised by a staff member to write a review which is why I'm doing so now. I spent too much $$$ for the services I received the last few times I've been there. Went for a massage & was given a full spa treatment!! Aromatherapy was great because you get to choose what you prefer! The music & lighting are perfect! If I could give this place 10 stars, I would!! I booked a massage and facial for my mother as a birthday gift. The process, from start to finish, was super easy. Bailey was such a great help. My mother loved her gift. It was her first spa day ever and said she felt welcomed and comfortable with everyone there. Hello, Been a customer here for almost 20 something years, facials, massages, face products. The manager Jared Bartlet lacks customer service, and has a condescending attitude. After a few encounters with him I called the owner Patti to discuss the situation. Not only did she defend him, not offer any solution, she accused me of a conversation that didn't happen and didn't care about my business continuing and made that clear. I have not only been a customer I have brought tons of friends and family in as clients. Between the lack of parking, beach traffic and now SPA fee in addition to the prices I will not be continuing nor will my family or friends. If the actual owner of the business does not care about clients and business it sends a message to the staff below. Its disappointing the owner Patti Rice lacked any respect for me or my continued business. read more

Booked a 10:30am appointment for a massage. They told me check in was 10:15am so I arrived promptly. I changed quickly and was in the pick up area for my masseuse within minutes. After all the other guests got picked up, at 11am I decided to walk to the front desk and ask them why my appointment was taking so long to start. Turns out, the masseuse picked up the 11:30am appointment before me. How is this even possible?? They tried to tell me they could take me at 11:30am. This would mean I would have been there for a total of 2hours and 30mins for this 50min appointment. Since I had other plans I had to leave. To remedy the matter, they tried to give me $100 coupon - which expires by the way - which turned out to be really $80 until I pointed it out. The whole experience was unpleasant. Their attitude and solution to their mistake was really disappointing. I just wasted my morning and really the wasted time is worth more than $100. read more

Friend and I had appointments booked for facials, but when I called to confirm the aestheticians were vaccinated the answer was no. I then asked if they do some kind of testing for Covid and still no. How can a person feel safe having someone work on your face for an hour or more who is not vaccinated? This seems like a requirement for workers who are with another in a small room for an extended time. They say they are doing safe practices, but that is the minimum if you care about your clients. People get vaccinated to protect the people around them including customers. read more
