Truly one of the best massages I've ever had! I'm a nurse who suffers from extremely stiff muscles and misaligned ankles that leads to bodily strain. Let me begin with parking. Occasionally, you can park right in front, but when that's not an option, there's a parking lot next to the Billy DeFrank LGBT Community Center, a block down the street. It's about a minute's walk. The overall ambiance is Thai-inspired, and the tea you get at the end is delicious. They accept NFC/Apple Pay, but there's a small fee. You can tip directly, put the tip in a small envelope when you pay, or add it to the total. Mon Siam has been my go-to massage place for quite some time now, and I've never had a bad massage. However, I must discuss my last three massages. Leonardo Da Vinci, Albert Einstein, Steve Jobs, and my masseuse, Nari, all share a common trait: they're brilliant. Nari, in particular, has a deep understanding of anatomy, drawing parallels to Leonardo Da Vinci. At 58, I've had massages at other places that were either okay or good, but Nari is an artist with her hands, feet, forearms, and elbows. She has a surgical precision that finds knots I didn't even know I had. After a massage with Nari, I'm so relaxed that I once walked out without putting on my shoes! I haven't been to Mon Siam Thai Massage in nearly 6 years. I previously wrote about the experience being fine but not extraordinary. That being said, Mon Siam Thai Massage totally redeemed itself during my most recent visit. I was desperately in need for reflexology. I took a dance class and was feeling the DOMS 2 days later. The DOMS was so bad that I could hardly walk, and gentle stretching felt intensely painful. I Googled for reflexology spots in the area, and Mon Siam Thai Massage popped up in my search. Rather than take a chance on a new place, I decided to give Mon Siam Thai Massage another chance. I booked a 60-minute session and was able to get an appointment right when they opened. I was expecting the massage to be like a Chinese reflexology massage where they soak your feet in a bucket of hot water. It was nothing like that, and I'm glad! I laid on the massage table the entire time, and Beam, my masseuse, did a fantastic job with my legs and feet. She applied the medium pressure that I was looking for, and she really worked on my tight feet and calves. I also did indicate that I wanted my arms and head/shoulder massaged too. They weren't necessarily my focus, but I appreciated that she spent a good 20 minutes on these parts of my body. Overall, the reflexology was exactly what I wanted. Due to my annoyance with the way Mon Siam was approaching cancellations and rescheduling (which I will say they have improved upon), I tried to find another massage place, but no other place can compare. The quality of the massages is the best that I have experienced, though I will say that they don't always get out all my knots in a 55-minute session, but the 85-minute session will do the trick. I really appreciate their intake form to understand my preferences before each massage as well as the tea they provide afterward. Plus, everyone here is super nice. My mom and I love coming here. Being a former massage therapist I can get critical about how different therapists work but Pam made me feel at ease and did a great job. When I arrived the front lady was nice and let me know there was goin be a bit of a wait and instructed me to pin point the areas I needed work on. When I went into the massage room the decor was nice and clean. Pam came in and instructed on what to do and after looking at my chart she said we're on everywhere you pointed out. I've been going to this Thai Massage place for over a year now and it's my go to. They are clean, quiet and tentative with their services! I always leave feeling so great. And the prices are very reasonable. I typically go for either the Thai massage or aromatics massage! If you have never gotten a Thai massage, it's definitely different than your typical. They will eventually put you in restorative yoga positions to get deeper with some adjustments. It caught me off guard at first but oh boy....it does wonders for sure! I just came back from two back to back weekends of Coachella so my body is wrecked. I thought the best way to recover would be an intense traditional Thai massage and I'm glad Mon Siam came to the rescue. After reading Yelp reviews and browsing their booking system, I decided to book with Janney. Process is simple: book online, they give you a call two hours out as a reminder, show up, and get started. You're asked to fill out a form and specify what areas you want worked on more than others, strength level, length of time, and some general personal info. From there, I was walked into a room, undressed, put on those big thai pants provided, and awaited my massage. It lasted the full 60 minutes and I left feeling very relaxed. Thai massages are no joke -- if you ask for strong, you'll get what you ask for. My body was walked on, contorted, stretched out, and twisted in every direction possible. If your pain tolerance is high, I'd definitely go for Strong. You'll leave feeling great. Prices are a bit high for me to return regularly, but affordable enough to consider coming back every now and then. It's also right next to my regular haircut place so it's very convenient. $80 for a 60 min traditional Thai massage at the time of this review, another $3 for credit card charges. The stamp had our names and expiry dates in it. We have been a regular visitor without even getting these stamps. What an experience! I had never had a Thai massage before and had no clue what I was getting into. I decided to get a massage at the last minute and googled a nearby location. It was super easy to book an appointment online. Upon check-in I was given a chart to point out areas I needed work on and choose the intensity of the massage. Because I chose the Aroma Thai Massage which includes some Swedish deep tissue massage they also have you choose a scented oil. They do have you strip down and give you some loose light cotton pants to put on. This may be because I did the combo massage. My therapist Susie was 5 star amazing! She walked on me, stretched me and pulled me in directions I didn't even know my body could go! She was very professional and always checking in to make sure the intensity was good for me. After the massage is over you go back to the reception and they give you a cup of tea and an envelope to slip a cash tip in for the therapist. Before the COVID19 shutdown, I stopped in with one of my girlfriends because we were in need of a really good massage. We both opted for the Traditional Thai Massage off their menu of services. Try to arrive about 15 minutes prior to your appointment as you will need to complete a questionnaire noting your problem areas and declaring your health status. Also, it will give you enough time to settle in and change into the slippers and loose clothing they provide you. My massage was so relaxing that I kept falling asleep -- the only reason why I would wake up was to the parts of the massage that included stretching. I love Thai massages. It is such a craft to be able to manipulate the body to various positions by using stretching techniques that helps the body remember whatever flexibility it once had. This place is not very expensive and the owner of the parlor has wonderful hospitality. Looking forward to returning once we are all sent back into the wild! read more

After my visit to Mon Siam Thai Massage for a prenatal massage, I left with a profound sense of disappointment and extreme physical discomfort that lasted almost one week. Despite the claims on their website promising improved circulation, reduced stress, and tension relief, my experience was quite the opposite. Far from promoting inner peace and calm, the massage exacerbated my discomfort, which worsened overnight. At 25 weeks pregnant and of a petite frame, I have had only three positive massage experiences, as many inexperienced masseuses have mistaken my bones for knots, leading to painful sessions. Unfortunately, my prenatal massage at Mon Siam fell into this same pattern. I was seeking relief from upper back and shoulder pain, as well as some lower back discomfort caused by the additional weight of my pregnancy. After reading the positive reviews and noting the proximity to my home, I decided to schedule an appointment, selecting Jan, a therapist who was described as experienced with prenatal clients. Upon arrival, I was greeted with a smile from the receptionist who handed me a clipboard containing a questionnaire. I filled it out noting my specific areas of discomfort--primarily my trapezius area and lumbar spine, with a request for minor leg work to improve circulation. I also requested medium pressure, anticipating that this would provide a balance between comfort and relief. However, from the very start of the massage, it was clear that my requests were not being considered. Using quick and rough movements, Jan applied deep pressure almost immediately, mistaking my bones for knots and dragging her knuckles and elbows along my spine and all over my bones. Rather than focusing on muscle relief, she applied undue pressure to sensitive areas, including my neck. I politely asked her to reduce the pressure and go "soft", which she did briefly, only to revert back to the same intensity shortly afterward. Throughout the session, I found myself tensing up, twitching, and breathing heavily in response to the pain. However, I refrained from asking her to adjust the pressure again, dissuaded by a sign in the lobby that instructed clients not to "tell them how to do their jobs," accompanied by a graphic of two stick figures with one hitting the other. To add to my concerns, I questioned whether the oils being used were safe for pregnancy. There was no mention of whether the products were non-toxic or formulated for prenatal care. Given the importance of ensuring that the oils used during prenatal treatments are free of harmful chemicals, I was left uneasy, unsure if the products were suitable for pregnant clients like myself. Upon leaving the massage, I felt sore and bruised, and the discomfort only intensified as the evening progressed. Simple movements such as walking, lying down and sitting became increasingly painful, disrupting my sleep and overall comfort. In hindsight, it may have been a mistake to seek a prenatal massage from a Thai massage therapist, as they clearly do not specialize in this particular service even though they offer it. During the session, my baby moved more than ever which was unusual, which, in retrospect, might have been his way of signaling that something was wrong. Though Jan seemed kind, unfortunately, the experience left me not only physically in pain but also regretting my decision to entrust my prenatal care to a practice unfit for such specialized needs. As much as I hoped for a great experience as everyone else, I was deeply disappointed and will not be returning to Mon Siam Thai Massage.
