It occupies the previous site of the Market at Big Springs at Slatyfork, (it was absorbed by the ParMar next door) and the entire square footage of the former super market - sans a small kitchen - is the Subway store. With all that space, and being the only rapid food within 30 miles, it is well equipped to handle the Winter ski/board crowds as well as the cyclist crowds in the Summer. And it will get mobbed once the ski crowd gets going. Even though it's a Subway, it has the feeling of a modern restaurant with accouterments I've never seen in a Subway or in any other fast food outlet for that matter. Soft leather tufted chairs offer views of two large flat-screen TVs in a lounge-like setting, and next to a waist-high wall behind the chairs, there is a large table sitting area. Very inviting. And to top it off, Subway is about the healthiest rapid food you can get. About the only one I enter too....

The setting is lovely -- Snowshoe Plaza had a car show that day, and the surrounding area is worth exploring. In winter this is a ski hub, but in summer it's still a great spot to visit. We waited about 20 minutes for a table, and the food took at least 30 minutes to arrive. I ordered the full rack of baby back ribs with baked beans and sweet potato fries (sharing with someone else). The good: The baked beans were fantastic, and the sweet potato fries were some of the best I've ever had. Most of the food tasted great overall. The bad: The ribs were completely blackened and burnt throughout -- not just a little char, but fully charred. I've attached a photo for reference. Burnt food not only ruins the flavor, but it's a sign of poor execution and attention to detail, and over time it can be unhealthy. Overall, the location is great, the service was decent, and most of the food was solid. Unfortunately, the ribs knocked this experience down for me -- enough to take off two stars.
