This place is great. A little easy to overlook as its not on the main strip of stores but went in today and thoroughly enjoyed my latte. Husband ordered black coffee and it didn't have the bitter bite, nice taste and great flavor. Cute area for kids to sit and play with some blocks and toys, and they have a small room for what looks like could be special events. St. Charles is a quaint river town with lots of charm and Arcedium fits in perfectly. This place is a great option if you are interested in local roasted blends. There is even a helpful coffee board that lists all of the types of blends available from lightest to darkest. Pour overs and other standard hip coffee house options abound. The large amount of options did however leave me wanting a little more simplicity. I did not feel like they had a drink that is "so Arcedium" and I was so overwhelmed by the menu that I ended up with an underwhelming iced coffee. There is plenty of seating and the ambiance is nice but could use a little less late 90's cottage feel and a little more 21st century sleek that I enjoy so well in other coffee establishments. Perhaps more natural light is the answer (I sound so uppity right now sorry). The men's restroom was a mess as well. Hopefully it was scheduled for a cleaning soon. Overall this is a 3 star establishment that I will give 4 stars to because of a lack of equal or greater coffee options in the suburbia surrounding. read more

This was a quaint coffee shop by where I used to work. They had nice flavors, and their desserts were decadent. I loved to order however, their fresh made salads- they were really filling and wonderful combo of flavors. Great smoothies too. Nice quiet atmosphere. read more

A coffee stop in the burbs with it's own roaster and a hipster flavor all over the cafe? What else can a coffee loving gal ask for? Sad thing was that I wasn't in the mood for coffee that day, so I got tea instead. It was some combo tea and it was OK. I'd definitely go back to get the coffee. read more

I'll start by saying I love this place and will come back. That said, it won't be for a very long time. I've never been driven out by volume and behavior of staff members (usually it's other patrons who are the ones to be rude) ... but this was a massive exception. First, the music was too loud and completely not soothing cafe music. Personal taste, I'll admit. But turn it down to a 6 or 7. It was as if we were hostages at a pre-teen slumber party. And, to make matters worse, the staff - ALL of them - were loud and disruptive to the tune of a 20-minute long laugh & gossip fest (one of them was laughing so hard she started coughing all over the place MANY times without covering her mouth - awesome!). It's great that the staff gets along. I appreciate that they are friends and that they enjoy one another's company. I love to laugh. But my GOD. Hang out after work. It went on and on and on and on and ON and on. We literally had to leave because our heads hurt. It was utterly exhausting. read more

"Come for the coffee, stay for the attitude!" I've been coming here once a year for three years straight and the song remains the same. Coffee's good, gotta give 'em that. But the attitude on those baristas is incredible. Feels like making good coffee in the middle of nowhere bestows them the power to act like hipster upper class assholes. It seems especially true if your an out of towner, which is my case. Next time I'll probably hit the Starbucks on the other side of the street. read more

They have a vast variety of sugar-free flavorings/syrups--way more than the "other" coffeehouse about a block & a half away. So, if I'm willing to get off my tush (bc they do not have a drive-thru), this is a much better option! read more

Great coffee! Great atmosphere. They have plenty of space to spread out and do work. The staff is very nice and fairly knowledgeable (though not as much as Starbucks or Caribou employees). The drinks can also take a lot longer than the main chains do (4-5 min even with only one or no people in front of me). However the coffee and personal experience makes up for that easy! read more

I have eaten some tasty pastries and sandwiches here over the last few years. I love the smell of the in-house roasted coffee and I like that it is off the beaten path and just across the parking lot from the Blue Goose Market. My only issue is that they charge 3x the price of other independent coffee stores and they charge way to much for soymilk when I go elsewhere and not have to pay for Soymilk. read more

This has been our favorite coffee spot for about 4 years now. Unfortunately the service has dramatically gone down since the place has decided to hire a group of teenagers that are unfortunately more preoccupied talking and serving free drinks to their girlfriends than ensuring their customers get the right drinks and promptly. We will never come back to this place again, today was the day my husband and I got tired of getting the wrong drinks and their bad service was topped off when it took 21 minutes and a final complain to the only older person in the place, for my husband to finally get the right drink. Really? All while the young girl sitting next to me ordered and got her own free drink from the same barista kid, who had just told my husband he was taking so long because he was really busy (busy talking). I am so angry! It is a shame because their coffee beans are phenomenal and the house drinks and service were phenomenal before these kids! read more

I wish I could rate this higher, but it is so damn inconsistent. Some days a 5, some a 1, all depending on who is working. There are a few girls there who have no idea what they are doing, but I keep going back because some days the barista hits the nail on the head and blows my mind with deliciousness. I would like to start by saying that Arcedium is great! It was a great addition to the downtown St. Charles area. My parents walk there almost every weekend to get their tea and latte. Personally, I don't drink those so I go for the breakfast sandwiches. They are so tasty (keep in mind they do cook them fresh there so they take a little bit)! The only reason I give them 4 stars instead of 5 is because I believe their sandwiches are overpriced. I called and ordered a Tuna sandwich for lunch one day and when I went to pick it up, it was almost 10 dollars. I could've understood if this was a gourmet tuna sandwich with a bunch of veggies in it or grapes or anything, but it was just straight up tuna on toast with a slice of cheese. Overall, many great experiences just wouldn't recommend the overpriced basic tuna sandwich! read more

Was in search of a local coffee shop after moving here a month ago. Came across this really cute coffee shop located in a very beautiful spot. I used to work as a barista at a local coffee shop near my college so I would have to say I have become quite the coffee snob. I ordered a Mexico pour over and the steel- cut oats to- go. The wait time was not that bad for it being early in the morning and ordering a pour over. I was in and out in 8 minutes (I have waited longer in the Dunkin Donuts drive thru). The coffee was really good. The oatmeal was average, but all oatmeal tastes the same to me! The only reason I gave it 3 stars was because I plan to go back and try a few more things. Overall, very cute coffee shop with an even better view! read more

The service here is notoriously slow. I called ahead and placed a pick up order today and was told it would take 5-10 minutes. When I arrived the girl at the counter grabbed a styrofoam box sitting on the back counter and repeated the order back to me, which was incorrect. She then rang me up and advised it would be a few minutes. She left the box sitting on the counter next to the register and I stepped to the side to wait. I stood there for about 15 minutes before another male employee asked if I was waiting for anything. I said I was still waiting for a bagel sandwich and he then picked up the box that was originally offered to me and said this is your order. I let him know that the previous girl told me it would take a few minutes and that it was not the correct order. He confirmed it was. Why did they watch me stand there for 15 minutes waiting for an order that was ready after advising it was incorrect and would take a few minutes? Mistakes happen, but this certainly hasn't been the first time. For faster service and comparable/ probably cheaper prices I would just head to Starbucks down the street. read more

I come here all the time! The coffee delicious (I'm extremely picky. I am a very educated coffee-consumer, and I worked through my high-school and college years in coffee shops). It's beginning I get crowded (and WARM) as their popularity increases. I'm giving them five stars despite the fact that a dude was weird to my mom regarding coupons (he made up odd stipulations that aren't printed on the coupon). Since his odd behavior/ rudeness happened twice, we've been back several times, and he seems to bend over backwards to be nice. You won't find a better brew in the fox valley area, that's for sure. It's a great place to hang, study, knit, or just grab a cup and be on your way. I DO wish they had a drive through since I have two little ones and I have a hard time carrying them AND hot coffee. I like the ambiance and atmosphere, the large coffee and tea selection and quality, and the pastries that they carry from Cocoa Bean, in Geneva. Their almond croissants, chocolate croissants, and raisin croissants are as good as what you get in France and are a great alternative to the usual heavy, tasteless American choices. Their staff is young and very friendly. The only thing that I don't like is their Internet connection, which can be slow and spotty at time, making it difficult to work from there. On a side note, not sure why, but that place is way too warm, in all seasons. read more

Nice location, appears nice at first glance. The men's bathroom has dirt all over the baseboards, door and wall. There's no hot water in the men's room, the house beans for the espresso are okay, the foods don't seem to have any seasoning or much flavor (not for a $10 panini anyway) and there's no AC. The owner appears to just be in it for the money, I'll pass by from now on. read more

By far the best coffee I have ever had and I have had a whole lot of coffee! The atmosphere is relaxing and lends itself to small group gathering or privacy when you just want to be alone and enjoy a fantastic cup of coffee. My daughter has had the frozen strawberry drink and loved it. My son had the soup of the day and practically licked the bowl! Very wonderful place and great friendly staff! read more
