Hot dog all the way with fries. Fries could have been crispier, hot dog was good.

Pretty good hot dogs, REALLY good fried pickles, cheap prices, and a long tradition make this one of the more interesting places you can go have a meal in the small town of Archdale, NC. In fact, it's the only time you can tell your mama you're going out for some A.S.S. and not catch a whuppin'! Keeping it simple is the motto of the century at this place. All you'll find are traditional lunch favorites like hot dogs, burgers, grilled cheese, etc. served alongside some deep fried goodness. If you like, they have ice cream and shakes available. Overall, the general vibe here takes you back to a time long before the internet and it's cache of Yelp reviews existed. Thank goodness the food holds up even today. Everything here is just O.K. in my book. Hot dogs are simple, decent flavor, wish the chili and slaw were a bit more robust... the fries I've had the last couple of times I visited were not crispy enough for my liking. They do have one big time standout though, and that is their fried pickle chips. Man are they good. Do not shy away from ordering them, especially at the cheap prices this place offers on everything! The building itself has seen better days, but really for the price you are paying, it would be hard to find a lot better food wise. I recommend if you are ever looking for lunch in this area, you can't go wrong getting some A.S.S.!

The wait staff at Archdale Soda Shop is doing curbside service during our state's lockdown! I have always heard great things about this place and enjoyed my first meal there today. Great prices, super friendly service, quick and well prepared food, and their tots are stars! Definitely a cheat meal worth the steps :)

A classic hole in the wall (in a good way) grill serving soda shop food to a loyal local following. Hamburger was cooked perfectly and tasted good, hotdog all the way (toppings perfect) was excellent, and fries were fine. Service was outstanding--very nice, helpful server who checked on me regularly. Price was about right. But a warning: if you are a snowflake of the environmentalist or anti-gun ilk, prepare to have your delicate sensitivities assaulted, for they use a lot of paper--your food will arrive wrapped in it--and the establishment is heavily decorated with pro-gun trappings (see photos). That said, definitely worth a stop if you are in the area.

The bottle-cap tables, Grateful…read moreDead memorabilia, vintage signs, exposed wood beams, and eclectic décor give the restaurant so much personality. It feels welcoming, relaxed, and unlike your typical burger place. You can tell this isn't a chain restaurant, it's a place with character. Our server, Hannah, was absolutely fantastic. She greeted us with a smile, knew the menu inside and out, made great recommendations, checked on us throughout the meal, and somehow managed to be attentive without hovering. Great service can make or break an experience, and she absolutely made ours even better. We started with the Brisket Tots, and wow...these are a MUST order. Crispy tater tots covered with tender smoked brisket, creamy beer cheese, scallions, parmesan, and chipotle lime aioli. Every bite was loaded with flavor, and honestly, this appetizer could have been a meal all by itself. The drinks were just as impressive. I started with a perfectly made Manhattan, then switched to a Long Island Iced Tea that was properly strong without tasting overpowering. My husband ordered an Apple Tini, and we even had a funny moment when our drinks almost got switched at the table. We topped it all off by sharing a tequila shot together, making it the perfect way to kick off our date night. For dinner, I ordered the Jam Session Burger, and hubby ordered the Black & Blue Burger. Both burgers were cooked perfectly, juicy, and piled high with fresh toppings. My burger had incredible flavor with bacon, grilled onions, pepper jack cheese, bacon jam, and just the right balance of sweet and savory. Hubby loved the Black & Blue! The portions were incredibly generous. Between the Brisket Tots and our burgers, we were completely stuffed and ended up taking nearly half of our food home. That's always a bonus because lunch the next day was just as good. Before we left, Hannah recommended the Peanut Butter Cheesecake, and I'm so glad I listened. Rich, creamy, decadent, and the perfect ending to an already amazing meal. Everything about this place was on point. The food arrived hot and beautifully presented. The cocktails were excellent. The restaurant was clean, the atmosphere was fun, and the service never slowed down even though they were busy. My husband even ran into an old coworker while we were there, which made the evening even more memorable. The prices were very reasonable for the quality of the food and the portion sizes. You can tell they put pride into what they serve, and it shows. Whether you're looking for an amazing burger, smoked brisket, handcrafted cocktails, a casual date night, or just a fun place to unwind after work, Frady's absolutely delivers. We'll definitely be back, and next time we're bringing friends.

We've been a few times but I've been too busy eating to do pictures or a review in the past. Tonight, I had a craving for a good burger and knew Frady's would hook me up. Despite the restaurant being packed, we were seated within a few minutes of arrival, and greeted with a smile. Service was kind and prompt our entire visit. I started off with a glass of whiskey, which is a nice treat since they have a comprehensive and fairly priced list of options. It's a nice way to try something (especially among the allocated options) that you might not have at home. For food, we got the Frady's ultimate cheeseburger and the All-American cheeseburger. Both were huge, served fresh, and fantastic. They really use fresh high-quality meat here and it shows. My wife also had had a side salad which was delicious and fresh, and I enjoyed the perfectly crispy tots. I've never had a disappointing meal here, and continue to recommend it to friends. They could use a larger location (a good problem to have because their popularity is well-earned) but otherwise I have nothing but praise!

Magnolia Blue was one of my favorite High Point eateries. Whether I went for weekend brunch or New…read moreYear's Eve dinner, I never had a bad meal there. It closed in early February for what were supposed to be renovations, only to reopen months later with a new name and a new concept, trading slightly upscale Southern for more upscale Italian. In some regards, this makes sense - it fills a void created by the closure of Lulu and Blu - but in other ways, it's a massive gamble. My wife and I went for our anniversary dinner, and while it was an overall pleasant experience, it also made us miss Magnolia. The higher price point is the chief culprit. Otto and Blue offers pastas in the $20s and entrees starting in the $30s, bread and olive oil not included. While we were celebrating an occasion that merited such a splurge, it's hard to imagine the restaurant remaining competitive at those prices once the sheen of newness wears off. Look past that, however, and Otto and Blue shines in both ambiance and service. It's classy without being stuffy, and the dark turquoise tones suit it well. Allison, a Magnolia Blue mainstay, was personable and attentive and provided excellent service throughout the meal. Otto and Blue's menu offers apps, salads, pastas, and entrees. It's predominantly Italian albeit with a few options for the steak-and-potatoes crowd. The dishes range from recognizably classic (rigatoni Bolognese) to conspicuously elevated (halibut piccatta). After mulling over several offerings, we went with the bread service, tagliatelle, and duck cacciatore. The food ranged from fairly good to outstanding. While $9 for bread is a tough pill to swallow, they executed it as well as they possibly could have: a hot, fresh ciabatta with tasty herb butter, olive relish, and a quality olive oil-balsamic combo as accompaniments. The cacciatore boasted a pair of duck legs confit, and while I'm usually no fan of dark meat poultry, these were prepared well with crispy skin and plenty of meat. For a typically hearty dish, the sauce seemed light (and a bit subdued), but that could be a consequence of serving atop polenta (more absorbent) rather than pasta. Speaking of pastas and sauces, the tagliatelle hit a nice balance of creamy and zesty without swimming in its white wine lemon sauce. Surprisingly, the highlight of the meal ended up being the dessert that Otto and Blue kindly offered as an anniversary gift. A scoop of vanilla bean gelato came adorned with a Biscoff cookie, a drizzle of olive oil, and a dash of salt. If salt and especially olive oil on ice cream seem vaguely blasphemous, don't knock it until you try it. Each bite was thoroughly delicious. It's a given that good food doesn't come cheap, but even so, Otto and Blue has no margin for error to justify what it charges. On food alone, it was close but not quite there. However, the overall experience made it worthwhile, and I have no regrets about dining here.

In general the place was basically clean. The servers were speedy and brought drinks and silverware quickly. Refills came quick and buffet plates were removed swiftly. Four of us got buffet and two ordered from the menu. The menu orders seemed to take a long time. The salad bar was the old fashioned kind with all the old fashioned fixin's. The hot food was plentiful but I can't say that the quality was especially wonderful. It was good but not great. Some things were not salted and others were overly salty. The flounder were especially fishy and flounder is not fishy fish. The dessert was grocery store leftovers. The "cobblers" were goop. And they only had vanilla ice cream in the machine (maybe on purpose). All in all, the experience was lacking. It wasn't awful but I certainly was hoping for better.
