Went to Carolina's diner after having a rough start to the morning, and they made my morning infinitely better! I got their egg and cheese sandwich and added lettuce and tomatoes to it, the bread was toasted perfectly and I also got their Mac and cheese which was delicious! My friend got their bacon and biscuits with gravy and grits and everything looked good! The food came out quick, our waitress was very attentive and kept her area of the restaurant smoothly running! They had plenty of vegetarian options! read more

This is my second story. Look up my part 1 story there on the Eastchester diner..... I was at a friends and all decided to rent a movie and watch it because he got a big flatscreen TV and surround sound, etc. So, they convinced me by suggesting we just order out from Carolina Diner (opened just over 1 year). However, I drew the short straw to go get the food. This time there was only 4 orders simple stuff just straight off the menu items. I showed up placed the orders and waited. When they took my order they told me it would take 15 to 20 mins to fix and pack to go. So, I just sat on a stool after about 15 mins of standing. There were not many people there but that's when I started to get asked 2 or 3 times by different staff if I had been waited on and I told them yes. I was there for about 45 minutes and the staff had a shift change. A new couple of waitresses and a new guy at the register. At this time they asked if they could help me. I said, I placed an order when I first got here and still did not have my food. They looked all over and stated that there was no order and even asked the kitchen if there was a to go order. They said it was already picked up and showed them my order. I said no it has not. They wanted to know if I gave it to a friend and was trying to skip out on the bill. I told them no and the customer beside me said he saw me with no food and I had been sitting there exactly like I said. They had no choice but to believe me. Then I got a phone call from my friends asking where are you? I told them what was going on and that they were redoing the order. The manager entered the store and figured it out before the staff thought worse of me and made sure they did my order right away and gave me a glass of Tea for my troubles. At this point again they told me it would be 20 minutes. The kitchen staff changed shift five mins after the manager came in and so my order again was not processed. After 20 minutes the manager was asking the kitchen where is the customer's order? They were like what order we just got here and there are no standing orders. The manager proceeded to take my order again and told the kitchen get everyone on it and it needs to be out in 5 mins or else. In the mean time he told me it wouldn't be long and apologized again. My order came out and it was on plates not to go boxes. The manger took care of this immediately and then placed my order at the register. From the time it took me to walk from the stool to the register a customer rushed up there to pay in front of me so I at this time was there so long I was like what's one more customer. The manager saw I was waiting there but the lady that jumped in front of me called all her 5 friends over so she let them front in front of her. So by the time the 6 of them paid that was another 5 mins. I walked up to get the order and the cashier guy charged me for the orders and the TEA that was supposed to be complimentary. I was so tired of being there I just paid for it anyway instead of complaining, the manager came up to see what was taking so long and saw I had to pay for the tea and I thought he was going to have a fit. He asked me to check my orders and I did. I said well you have 3 orders but my order is not in here. He couldn't believe it. He looked at his pad and the orders himself and said what happened to the 4th order. Apparently, an inside customer ordered the same thing I did and a waitress saw it on the counter and took it while the manager was shifting everything to the to go boxes. Also the other cashier had charged me for that order too. He promised to have them remake it but I said no I'm not hungry now it was my order that was messed up. He said I'll take care of this myself. He then opened the second register and gave me back the money for the tea and food then said please come again. I said I doubt it and went to leave and he said why? I said, "Hold on my friends were calling again." At this time it was an hour and a half. I told them I was just walking out but the manger interrupted and said no wait I want to know something. So I hung up and said yes? He wanted to know why I wouldn't be back. I told him how long I was there and he said no way. He just couldn't believe it. I said I watched the waitresses change and now the kitchen change and he come in and asked him and how long have you been here.. He realized he had been there 45 mins. I said thank you but I'm leaving. I have people waiting on me. He tried again and again to get me to come back and even said he would give me back my money but I didn't want it. I was done with the place and didn't want any connections to it again. I went to Wendy's and got myself something to eat and went back to my friends house. They couldn't believe I had all that to go through AGAIN. Because they all knew the other story and was just shocked. So, now I won't go to Carolina Diner ever again no matter what location they are at. read more

Had breakfast at Carolina Diner--nothing to write home about, but also nothing to send back to the kitchen. The food did its job, the service showed up for work, and the price didn't make my wallet cry. All in all, a perfectly average meal in the best way possible. read more

We've been several times and the service is always a hit! I typically get breakfast food in one of the dinermite specials. I copied my mother-in-law once and ordered my eggs soft scrambled and they're always perfect. My daughter loves the waffle and strawberry meal. I've done the grilled chicken meal and it was decent--the sides were phenomenal, the chicken was a bit underseasoned for me but an easy fix. read more

I used to love going to the high point location so I was excited to come here! The service was wonderful but the food was below average. My hash browns were soggy and cold. Grits were flavorless. An excellent little diner in a very convenient location (right off of 85 and not quite in one of the relatively larger cities, so not too annoyingly overcrowded). It's not fancy, but is about as good as you'll find in a region with very few diners. Certainly far better food than the Waffle House or Cracker Barrel, and other chains. Diners are a foodies dream come true. So we jumped at celebrating my niece Lexi's 21st birthday at then near High Point University where Lexi is a junior this year. On a busy Saturday morning our group of 7 got seated right away. Our server, Amber, was awesome and accommodating. On point 100%+! The grits and omelets were tasty and filling. The "star" breakfast item IMHO was the hash browns. They tasted fresh and had a crispy crust. Delicious! On our next visit to HPU we will be headed back to the CD. read more

Evening stop for dinner on the way to the beach. Restaurant was not the cleanest by any means. Decent sized menu which is about half breakfast items. Prices were average in my opinion. We all ordered various items, some breakfast, some sandwiches and some dinners. The food was average, nothing to write home over. The biscuit I had for example came out hot, but hard as a rock, with the texture that it was old and simply reheated. Our server was extremely friendly and attentive. She introduced us to a local beverage called Cheerwine which she encouraged us to order. She even brought us samples. It was a decent soft drink. On my way to Charlotte NC, I stopped at a Diner with a group of 5. The vibe is very retro, and is your typical Diner. It was actually very clean. As for the food I was very impressed with the omelette. It was packed with meat and the eggs were pleasant as well. It wasn't super hard hitting but still sufficed my hunger. The grits were pretty bad. They molded and clumped together like jello and weren't salty enough. The sausage links were a little too thin for me. I would've liked a meatier sausage but they had a good snap and decent flavor. As for the service, it was really good. The young lady with red hair that helped us was super nice, and she was able to get anything we needed. The food also came out super fast. I wanna say it took 10 minutes tops for all five of us to get what we ordered. It was warm and hot too. Nice little family diner right off 85 halfway between Charlotte & Raleigh. Standard diner fare served hot and quick. Fair prices for breakfast, sandwiches, and country style dinners with a bit of local flavor. Place was hopping, but tables were turning quick, and waitresses were friendly and personable. I stop by the diner at night while visiting the area for work and ordered a chef salad to go...the service was awesome and the waitress that took my order was able to up-sale on dessert and I don't even really have desserts too often. We were hungry for lunch and decided to try this diner rather than eat at one of the chains. While the food was average, it was a better choice than any of the alternatives. Samantha was an excellent waitress with a great, cheerful attitude. Breakfast was good - eggs, bacon, grits. Meeting up with friends about 1/2 way between Raleigh and Charlotte put us at Carolina's Diner. The place needs a facelift but the service and food were fair if not just slightly better than A-Okay. Atmosphere is severely lacking - plain white wall paneling that needed a deep cleaning. Tables were clean. Think 50's era diner but with a run-down feeling to it. I'd imagine if they did remodel, the food prices would go up substantially. The triple-decker melt would not be my first choice next time around, should have gone with my first instinct which was the Reuben, but I wanted to try something different. Good afternoon, Can I say how much we love this restaurant. We usually come every Sunday (frequent diners). Food and service is always great!! However, this past Sunday I was very surprised of how "Ashley" our waitress was with our table. First we always go during the rush on Sundays, and yes it was busy and we don't mind because we are never in a hurry. once we were seated it took almost 10 min before another waitress came and took our drink order. No worries. However, it took around 20-25 minutes before "Ashley" came to our booth. She slammed down the plates she had in her hand on the table behind us. And proceeded to tell us " Well I had a large order to handle first". mind you, we didn't even say anything. That was her first words to us. No apology. We ordered, and she never looked up and never smiled once. She was rude and I was very very surprised. I know we all have those days, however, when we come back we will ask not to be placed in her section. She made us feel like we were a burden. Yet, it was just 3 of us. read more

I want to start off by pointing out that the service we had here went above and beyond my expectations. We were a group of 10+ that had an original reservation for a table of 5. As more of our party came straggling in, our server took it in stride and helped us add more tables and chairs to our booth. I really appreciated her help and how she was able to keep track of everyone's order. If I were to review Carolina's Diner on service alone, it would be a solid 5 stars. One thing lots of smaller communities do well is family restaurants. Carolina's in High Point is a good example. This was a surprising place but not for the reasons you might think. The menu is substantial and with standard fare, but the food is done well. Not gourmet, not unpalatable, but slightly better than basic. What makes Carolina's stand out, is the waitstaff. Despite being slammed with customers, they all managed to stay focused and smiling. There appeared to be a lot of locals on the day I was there and the staff had next-door-neighbor style of rapport with them. Since it's located not too far off the interstate Carolina's is obviously familiar with waiting on those passing through and were disciplined enough not to bat an eye at my unusual request. The only thing that appeared to take them aback -- my server lost her nothing-surprises-me composure -- was my declining the hash browns that come with every breakfast. Of all things to cause an eyebrow raise. Weird. Anyway, the omelette was perfect. Perfectly cooked, perfectly folded, and perfectly seasoned. That's pretty hard to do when the kitchen is getting inundated with more orders than I could count from my seat at the counter. 5 stars for that. I've come to be a fan of sitting at the counter when one is available. It gives me a unique view of the workings. Plus, I get an opportunity to see true customer service -- does the staff ignore me, forget about me, or check on me more frequently? Here, Carolina's gets rave reviews. Nearly every waitress on her way to the kitchen would stop and ask if I needed anything regardless of whether the counter was at her station. It wasn't enough to be annoying, but was enough to let me know they kept up with their customers. Again, nicely done. read more

This place had to be the worst restaurant experience I have had in at least a decade. This was about 6-8 months ago, and I have been so mad ever since, I haven't been able to type. So I finally can write a review. When you're trying to get breakfast with a 2 and 4 year-old, it can be a trying experience anyway. I decided to come to this place b/c the Eastchester, and Regional Rd. locations are amazing, and I frequent them often. How this place even has the same name as the others is a mystery to me. We were quickly greeted, and sat at a table. The restaurant was not that busy. We ordered within five minutes, and waited for our food. The kids were coloring, and everything was fine. The waitress brought my son a cup of water, even though we ordered chocolate milk. No problem. Just bring me some chocolate milk. I realize readers of this review will think I'm exaggerating, but I have a fabulous Swiss timepiece that says otherwise. 20 minutes later, the waitress, who I thought had been abducted by aliens, I mean. . . this is a very small restaurant, and she was simply GONE. . . . She returns to our table to assure us that our food would be coming directly. She sort of did this in a drive-by kind of fashion, and I didn't even have a chance to ask about the chocolate milk. Fine. We're okay. I'll ask when she brings our food. I am not lying when I say I did not see this woman for another SOLID 20 minutes. When I saw her, she was carrying food. It was for a table that was sat at least 10 minutes after us, and all I could hear behind us was the guy complaining b/c it wasn't even remotely what he ordered. The rest of the table got what they ordered, but this one guy's food wasn't even close. I started to lose hope. The kids were absolutely starving. She literally walked right past our table without a single glance. I saw her again about 5 mins later with some more food for this one guy. Again, there wasn't even a glance in our direction. I was out of drink at this point. After about 5 more minutes, I couldn't find the waitress, I left money on the table for our drinks, and we left the place. Never can I imagine any circumstance in the future, short of a thermonuclear war that destroys every single other restaurant on Earth, where I would set foot back into this place again. And that's depressing, since it's the closest location to my house, and I hit the others at least twice a week. read more

I absolutely love coming here! It's about halfway from unc to Charlotte so I love taking a break and eating breakfast here. I've only been a couple times, but the servers recognize me and are very friendly. Another big plus is that the menu is VERY flexible. Whatever you want, they'll substitute in for you.
