Today we recently visited Arco di San Calisto, located at Via dell'Arco di San Calisto 45, in Rome's vibrant Trastevere neighborhood. The restaurant very clean and established sometime ago and is known for its traditional Roman cuisine. After spending most of our time in the city's historic center, we were excited to explore a place where locals dine. On the recommendation of a friend's business partner, we decided to give Arco di San Calisto a try. Initially, things looked promising. Rome was buzzing on this Saturday night, and our party of six was warmly welcomed and seated without delay. Our waiter, an older gentleman who spoke some Spanish, was assigned to our table, and we appreciated the effort. The outdoor seating was comfortable, and the traditional decor added to the charm. I ordered a glass of red wine, and we began the evening on a positive note. But unfortunately, the good start quickly faded. It felt as though our waiter had decided what we should eat, rather than taking the time to listen to our actual orders. We had to repeatedly clarify simple requests, which became frustrating. While he got the drinks and appetizers right, the main courses were a disaster--completely off from what we had hoped for. The food lacked the flavors we had come to expect from Roman cuisine, leaving us disappointed. Sadly, we weren't satisfied with the overall experience and decided to leave shortly after finishing our meals. Although the restaurant let us down, the Trastevere area itself is lively and full of promise, and we enjoyed being there. That said, for anyone looking to enjoy an authentic Roman meal, I'd suggest trying other options in the area. read more
