This restaurant was close to our Airbnb and we were exhausted when we came in so we decided to give it a try. It was probably one of the best meals we had while we were in Rome, even better than some of our splurge/fancy meals. The best part of it was that we were just a one minute walk away instead of going into the city. It's a no frills type restaurant just really good food that's English friendly. The only thing I knew how to order in Italian was red wine and we managed to communicate with ease. The staff was really kind and accommodating. Our favorites were the Cacio e Pepe and the Spaghetti Vongole (clams). The pasta was cooked perfectly and was so flavorful. The eggplant parm was wonderful was well. We came back a second night because of how good this place was. The dessert was also amazing, the tiramisu trio had the most amazing limoncello flavored one.

This is what left ---- Nothing !!!

We were walking all around and found this Restaurant. Its in the middle of students night life. Italian pizza - thin and very delicious. Our kids eaten all margherita pizza. We have tried Picante... Great ... Lovely... Full plate with hams, rocket and parmezano cheese - very nice. What to say ??? Highly recommended to people from outside Italy as we and for local lads. Good job !!!

One of my favorite meals in the week I was in Rome. It's a ways off the beaten path (located in San Lorenzo) so you're unlikely to get a lot of tourists. In fact the two times we went there for dinner there was only one other tourist group. The food was fantastic. Some of the things we ordered included lamb shank, cinghiale (boar), squid pasta, octopus salad (oddly, it had potatoes), lemon cream shrimp pasta, etc. They were all delicious and the portions were good for the price. We also tried the pistacchio tiramisu on one occasion and it was fantastic. The staff speaks limited English and I pretty much don't speak Italian, but they didn't mind my miming and poor attempts at Italian. In fact, they were incredibly accommodating and friendly. Good thing I had Google translate and they had an English menu.

Seafood pasta & house white wine. One of the most delicious meals we tasted in Europe!!!

WOW. Out of 17 cities across 9 countries that my boyfriend and I were lucky enough to experience during our Eurotrip this past summer, this restaurant made it to our top 3 meals of our entire trip. This restaurant is located right behind Termini station. There's quite a bit of seating, but it still manages to keep the cozy, intimate feel that is expected for a family-owned Italian restaurant. This was our first meal in Rome, and boy did it set the bar high. We came in for lunch, and ordered the Seafood Spaghetti to split. Out came a gigantic bowl of pasta, marinara sauce, clams, octopus, shrimp, crawfish, and scallops. Absolutely to die for. We also ordered a quart (or 2) of the white house wine which was delicious as well, and super inexpensive for how great it tasted. We loved this restaurant so much that we also came for dinner the following night. My boyfriend was still so impressed by the seafood spaghetti that he ordered it for this meal as well. I wanted to try something different (since I was convinced all of their food would be to die for), and ordered a lamb skewer with vegetables. It was amazing too, but nothing could top the first dish we tried. We were sad to leave such a wonderful restaurant with such sweet, friendly owners, but are so excited to return the next time we find ourselves in Roma :)

    Can eat this every day!

Has an English menu if you're not fluent in Italian (and pictures!!) We were in Rome 5 nights and came here 2/5 times for dinner.. that's how good this place is. The staff was amazing and interactive, and worked hard to understand our English bc our Italian is terrible! The shrimp and lemon pasta was so amazing my favorite in Rome! For dessert.. the amoretto tiramisu is definitely a game changer. Must go when in Rome :)

Expected better given the good reviews here. The gnocchi were somewhat al Dente and the fish fried in thick batter. Staff was super enthusiastic and enjoyed the atmosphere. I had gnocchi alle Vongole with porcini mushrooms. Loved the flavor of the mushrooms.

    Lasagna with zucchini and Gorgonzola.

Wonderful food and great service. Linguine with mushrooms is wonderful. The pizza is great with very thin crust. We will be going back.

Our hotel manager had suggested another restaurant, but I was apprehensive to try, but did later, more on that restaurant review in it's own post. I rather did what I should have done throughout the trip to, which is to search google for local reviews. This tactic I found to be much better than to trust American reviews for restaurants to visit from Youtube or even here, just because the American touristy taste tends to favor bland or Olive Garden style pseudo Italian. The real Italian taste is much different and something one needs to develop. I was familiar with European Italian food, as I had said before in other reviews that Mexico has better Italian food outside of Italy. Additionally, the good restaurants here in Italy do not open before 7 PM. If it does or if someone that looks foreign to Italy is outside trying to lure you in, it's a tourist restaurant with iffy flavor. At this restaurant my husband had the Lobster pasta and I had the spinach/ricotta ravioli, and we both were beyond satisfied. We also had the artichoke as an appetizer, and trusted the waiter with his suggestion for a bottle of wine. He must have been some genius because the wine went well with our meal. The ambience was cozy and very family oriented, however, the rain outside made it romantic for us. Another key point for this restaurant and it traditional flare was that they brought out the olive oil and red vinegar for our salad and of course olive oil for our wonderful home-made bread. I'm so glad we chose this place for those of us Americans who understand culinary cuisine.

After ordering some tasty vino we went the Focaccia with mozzarella, black truffle with a truffle cream sauce. The Focaccia was lite and a thin crust. Topped with some delicious mozzarella and black truffle made this appetizer and home run choice. After the Focaccia I decided to stay on theme and went with the Fettuccine al tartufo nero e porcini (fettuccine black truffle & porcini mushrooms). Holy cow, a delicious culinary delight. Some other hits of the table included the beef fillet with green pepper sauce & Digione mustard. Astice grigliato, verdure al vapore e maionese alla curcuma (Grilled lobster with steamed veggies in a mayonnaise turmeric sauce and a Lasagna, tartufo nero, funghi, mozzarella e grana (lasagna with blach truffle, mushrooms, mozzarella and Parmesan cheese) All were just amazing. Impeccable service and an old world Italian charm decor made this a delightful experience.

Very Disappointing Experience - Osteria da Fortunata, Pantheon Location…read more We have visited Rome several times and have eaten at Osteria da Fortunata della Cancelleria on Via della Cancelleria. During our previous visits, we had excellent experiences with both the food and the customer service, which is why tonight's experience was especially disappointing. We ordered the carbonara and spaghetti, and unfortunately, the pasta was undercooked, very chewy, and cold. It was not at all the quality we had experienced during our previous visits. When we asked the waiter to take the carbonara back because it was not edible, his attitude was extremely disappointing. Rather than offering to replace the dish or addressing our concern professionally, he told us that the manager had approved it and that we could simply take the food home. What made the experience even worse was the atmosphere of this location. The restaurant felt more like a factory than an authentic Italian dining experience. We noticed the staff using walkie-talkies to communicate with the host, and as soon as customers left their tables, the waiter would communicate with the host to immediately send new customers in to fill the space. It gave us the impression that the priority was turning tables over as quickly as possible rather than providing guests with a pleasant dining experience. The constant rush was noticeable and took away from what should have been an enjoyable meal in Rome. It is very unfortunate because we have visited Osteria da Fortunata several times in the past and genuinely enjoyed both the food and the service. Tonight, however, the cold and poorly cooked pasta, the attitude of the waiter, and the rushed, factory-like atmosphere made this a very disappointing experience.

It is a large restaurant and was full of lively patrons. The indoor decor is warm and inviting. The first thing I noticed was the camaraderie between the waitstaff - everyone seemed to get along, helped each other and were having fun. We had 2 wonderful Filipino waiters. One had the same Ray-Ban meta glasses as my husband, which they bonded over. We ordered the bombolotti carbonara and lasagna-both delicious. For the mains, grilled Turbot (which was perfectly de-boned tableside) and meatballs w/ mashed potatoes. While the waiter was de-boning the fish, the song "Take Me Home, Country Roads" by John Denver came on overhead. My husband and I both looked at each other and smiled, thinking WTH?! I asked the waiter, "did we tell you we were from West Virginia?" and he smiled and shook his head. But later confessed, he played it for us (I guess we did tell him, lol). It made our night. Rome was the last city in our multi-city 12 day tour and we loved every minute but we were looking forward to going home. Hearing "Country Roads" at a popular and busy restaurant a block away from the Spanish Steps blew our minds. A young couple sat next to us for a quick snack, I asked her what she ordered (it looked delicious) and she said "Im from a different part of Italy but come here just for their artichokes". A few minutes later, I saw a plate full of artichokes pass by, being brought to a table outside. They made my mouth water. Al 34 was one of our favorite restaurants in Italy -- wonderful food (extensive menu), very lively with a mixed crowd (lots of Asians, English speakers and native Italians). It is a fun place to go and the wait staff is one of the reasons I will be coming back. I cant wait to try their artichokes! If you see the word, carciofo (artichoke), order it!
