He ran the serial number and saw the unit was 17 years old, diagnosed that I had an issue with the compressor which was probably about to die, and should likely start comparison shopping for a new unit. He offered to send a salesman out the next day to take a better look at the overall job that would need to be done and provide an estimate; his initial ballpark was anywhere between $6,000 and $9,000. The salesman came out promptly the next day and was very professional and well-informed, having previously been in the field himself. He took his time explaining and provided estimates for two possible units, one under 6000, one under 7000. He sent me all electronic paperwork related to the estimate on the spot; again, very professional. At the end of the day I would have been extremely comfortable going with them to replace the unit, which did end up dying completely within the next day, but ended up getting my socks knocked off with a lower quote from another AC company I've used in the past for the same, lower end unit. After doing some research online looking for local recommendations, I called Ziegler Heating & Cooling on Monday morning at 7am. I was sent to voicemail when I contacted Ziegler, so I hung up and called Knoechel. (I called Ziegler first because I have an American Standard AC unit, and based on Zieglers website, it appeared that American Standard was a preferred brand of theirs/they may specialize in. Whereas Lennox appears to be the preferred brand at Knoechel. - my thought process was, if I was going to need a replacement, then I'd want an American Standard, hence Ziegler was my first call). Spoke with a woman who answers incoming calls for Knoechel, who took all of my information (contact info and description of the problem) and informed me that I'd receive a call back shortly. 30 minutes later I received a call from one of their techs who then arrived at my house less than 10 minutes later (I am local in Zelienople, where they are headquartered). Within an hour my AC was running normally again without any attempts to upsell/oversell. (Thorough cleaning of AC coils on the outside unit, replacement of dual capacitor, and temperature checks - about an hours worth of work, $177) All that work PLUS the expediency in response time came at a price that was in line with a competitor a family member had used last week located in Pittsburgh (which was too far away to service my house in Zelie). Without question, I'd recommend Knoechel!
