Tuam maybe isn't somewhere where you want to spend a 2 week holiday; but if you do want a night away somewhere different in the West then try Tuam - and stay in the Ard Ri.
Very clean, comfortable and reasonable rooms (€50 single, €80 sharing - weekend prices) - that included breakfast the next day.
The staff are just the right friendly - helpful and nice without fawning all over you.
The location is great - the outskirts of Tuam (Milltown road) with plenty of parking, you don't even have to negotiate the tricy centre of Tuam if you're coming up from Galway.
The hotel bar is similar to all hotel bars - you wouldn't make it your local, but having said that it was getting fairly lively when we were there (a Saturday night).
The only down side is the food - I would have expected better for the prices - wrong accompaniments delivered, badly battered fish (!) and cheapo frozen burger. The breakfasts the next morning were fine though.
To sum up - if you need to stay in Tuam or it's environs head for the Ard Ri - maybe bring a packed lunch though. read more
