For me it was an amazing experience. I (tried to) save money by dying my hair at home and it got a terrible, ugly color, orange-like. After trying several things to make it look nicer, I gave up and decided to check it out online and found Ardan Salon. Gave it a shot and got an affordable - not cheap at all - price. I negotiated before doing it, so I wouldn't be surprised. They checked my hair out and asked what I wanted, so I explained and they fortunately had a colorist able to stay after hours making my hair! She did an AMAZING job and I'm thrilled with my hair. So happy that I am actually going back there to refresh! Her name is Jocelyn. The owners were very sweet to me, understanding what I wanted. I tried this in other salons but never got the color nor the effect that I wanted. So yes, go there, explain what you want and be happy! read more

Came here on my graduation day to get my makeup done. My appointment was scheduled for 8am but my makeup person didn't arrive until 8:45am, which ultimately made me late for my graduation class photo and lining up for my graduation ceremony. Because my makeup person was late, the appointment felt very hectic and rushed. At the end of the appointment, she wanted to curl my eyelashes, but only had a really crappy Revlon eyelash curler that basically just pulled some of my eyelashes out (you would think that if they do makeup appointments that they would have some quality supplies?) Ultimately, although I didn't end up looking like a troll, I was disappointed with the result. This review is for facials only. I was referred to Ashley by a friend, and I have been so pleased. She has been able to help me clear away my maskne, and reduce my oil. My facials have been nothing but relaxing! She's introduced me to a whole new version of self-care. We started with chemical peel on my first visit, and have since moved on to dermaplaning and hydrafacials with a jelly mask. Teenager bullied by the hair stylist! My daughter went for a haircut. She just wanted layers on her fabulous long hair. She brought a picture and also told the stylist that she wanted to keep the length as much as possible. The stylist agreed and yet cut her hair so short in the front like a bob! When my daughter mentioned it was too short the stylist lost it and yelled at my daughter. She paid $90 to have her hair ruined and be bullied!!! Yipes. I've gone to Ardan Spa for the last two years. I had always gone to the same person and was recently told she was no longer working there. I had enjoyed dealing her and developed a good working relationship with her. After she left, I was extremely disappointed in how the owners and staff repeatedly disparaged her. It was not my experience with this stylist and the repeated gossip and character assassination seemed unnecessary and unprofessional. On my last visit, the owner also told me I had a bad hair cut and asked where I got it. It was cut there on my previous visit by a new stylist. He did not apologize for his employee's poor cut nor did he offer to compensate me for the "awful" job. I won't go back. Karma's a bitch. read more

I was reading reviews, and I felt that I had to write to support what some of the others have said. I haven't been to Ardan in a while, but the examples of the upsell that has been described really resonated with me. Every time I went for color and/or a cut, I would end up buying something that was told I "just had to try." It became a running joke with my friends, as I would try to buy the least expensive item that was pushed on me. I was young, and while I would never  fall for this now, then I did...every time. I will never forget how disgusting, rude, and racist the workers were at Ardan to my friends and I. We were walking through the Wellesley Village, looking for a good place to get our hair cuts. We walk into Ardan to price a wash, and blowdry or flat iron. First of all they all froze as if we were about to rob the place, and before we could even open our mouths to say hello, one of the women ABRUPTLY AND PROMPTLY yelled "We do not do ethnic hair, Thank you," as if to summon our little black asses to go back to wherever it was that we came from and not to come back. Alas, we live in Wellesley, this is our home, after all. I was so hurt, so disappointed at the service here, especially after I'd been there alone to get pedicures and my eyebrows done. I thought why not bring two girlfriends, and why not try their hair salon. I've never stepped foot into Ardan ever again, nor shall I ever. Shame on you all! And please tell me, what exactly IS ethnic hair? Is it anything that isn't bone straight? It's so funny because "White" hair, especially if you're of Sephardic or Eastern Euro descent is often more curly and coarse than my hair, and the people I went with were all of mixed races and had wavy hair, at best and chemically relaxed straight hair. I have gone to this spa for a few years because both owners, Helena and Ellie, are excellent at color and cutting my hair. Unfortunately, they are not as good at the service end of things. Ellie, in particular, often walks away from cutting my hair to talk to his wife about their vacation plans, for instance. He often acts like he is too busy, but will cut my hair anyway. They are always pushing extremely expensive products when I leave, on top of the extremely expensive services. I rarely get out of there for less than $300. My last visit was the worst. When I declined a free makeover during my highlights, both owners got upset that they couldn't up sell me. When I go to get my hair done, I don't want to be sold too. It's supposed to be my quite time. I am done with Ardan. read more

I was thrilled when I got a gift card for my birthday to Ardan Medspa & Salon. I read the reviews and was counting down the days until I could have a day all to myself. I booked an appt. online for a 60 minute therapeutic massage for this morning. Parking was not so bad, but I think it was because it was early morning otherwise I could imagine it being a pain. Upon entry I was impressed by the bright white and modern space. The floors were however muddy and wet, assuming due to the snow outside. Either way, this should be a clean area. I was greeted by a very nice lady who escorted me downstairs to the spa area. I waited for under 5 minutes when the woman who was giving me my massage arrived and brought me to my room. She gave me a few minutes and came back and immediately started. At first I thought wow this is great but as the minutes progressed, I noticed that I was getting a "massage" like what I would give my husband...I'm not a massage therapist by the way. She had no technique, the entire hour was just rubbing and mind you she used wood on my legs vs. her hands which I thought was weird. I've been getting massages for years and this was by far the worst ever. By the time we were done I was covered in an overbearingly scented oily lotion and was not even offered a towel to wipe down which is typical. I got dressed and as I was walking out the woman who did my massage and another were literally outside my door giggling and whispering about what seemed to me a conversation about me because as I walked out they seem startled and made a comment about the corridor being tight and scattered. I have never felt so uncomfortable in my life, especially when I'm there to relax and feel good. Instead, I just wanted to get the heck out. I usually tip very good, this time I decided to give the bare minimum and thank goodness I did because as I left she told me that I really should take better care of myself. I was appauled. What does she know about me and who does she think she is telling me I need to take care of myself? I cannot believe I still have $120 on my card to use here. I have no intention of returning. Note that I cannot remember the name of the woman, all I remember is she had a very think latin accent. I would stear clear. If you are going to pay and want a real nice massage go to Bella Sante. I have mixed feeling about this. The services are great, but the staff attitude left nothing to be desired. The services I have tried are the ultrasonic facial and hair cut/style. The facial is great as it cleans your skin thoroughly. I like ellie when I get my haircut because he is talented. However, almost every time I went, my appointment with Ellie is not on time (I went there three times for haircut). One time, when I brought a friend, he was so busy that he was just so careless, he almost nip my ear and he poked my friend's cheek with his scissors. The front desk girls are not that competent. They would make mistakes in my appointment time, and sometimes, downright rude. Another thing, be prepared to have their products pushed upon. They are very aggressive in selling their product. If you dont want to end up spending 300-400$ (yea, their products aren't cheap), stand on your ground. read more

The colorist left my hair orange. She made me think I was crazy and tried to convince me otherwise. I have dark blonde hair and decided to give ardan a try in January as it is close to my home. Big mistake. The owner didn't listen to me, ruined my hair, and I am not spending hundreds of dollars to fix it. The owner didnt have amy empathy, understanding or good taste. Worst place i have ever been. Only once I made it home did my husband and sister say, oh wow you are red! Not the color I was going for.. Also.. super racist towards arabs. Went there because it's very close to where I live. Wanted to get my eyebrows waxed (they have two different services, "shaping" and something else different by $5 in price). I went with the cheaper service and was very pleased with it - the room where I was was very comfortable, the girl helping me was nice and talkative, she did a great job with my eyebrows. However, the overall atmosphere of the place was very uppity, the other clients seemed all to be wealthy white women. I had to wait for my appointment for half an hour even though I called in ahead a few days before. Also, when I tried to make an appointment on line through their website nothing happened. The first good haircut I have ever gotten was from Elie at Ardan. My roommate made the first appointment for me my sophomore year at Wellesley College (I just graduated) and I've continued here ever since. Elie, Helena, and the rest of the staff have always made me feel like part of the community. They say hello and ask how I am doing if they run into me on Central Street. I've patronized Ardan for their spa services for over a year and have always enjoyed my massages and facials (and even a little Botox, I won't lie!). When my best friend suggested that I get my hair colored there (I'm not as young as I used to be!), I immediately booked the appointment with Helena. My first appointment was so-so. I had an all-over color done and it was all right. When I went back for highlights is when the proverbial you-know-what hit the fan. I looked like one of those striped monkeys! The worst part was that Helena tried to convince me that the look was "cutting edge". What a joke. I'm a broker with many high-profile clients...I can't afford to look unprofessional with streaky, funky hair. When I asked her to cover it up, she said she couldn't or my hair would be damaged. I had to go to CVS and get a box of color to try and tone down what she did, since I couldn't find an appointment anywhere else that evening. It is as stressful to find a new stylist as it is buying a new car. I used to live in Virginia and had an AMAZING salon, however, its a little too ridiculous to fly to VA for a hair appointment. I have tried numerous places in Boston, from High end salons on Newbury St that were SO expensive (and trust me when i say i'll pay for good hair). To smaller family owned salons in the suburbs that took too long. I had been walking by Ardan salon for months, and seeing all the "Best in Boston" awards on the windows, I FINALLY decided to go in. Other reviews said it was a snotty atmosphere, but thats sort of what I expect for a good hair salon. I like clean, fancy, places. However, the people working there were FAR from stuck-up. They were soo helpful and attentive the second I walked in the door. It was obvious that the other ladies in the salon had been regulars for a while. I made an appointment with Mary. She was so sweet and very chatty (also a good thing with a salon). I was in and out in the usual 2 hrs for a partial High Light and Cut/Blow dry. She did a GREAT! job on the color. It was just what i needed/wanted. And the Price was incredible. I was used to paying over $200/odd for my hair in VA and it was a good deal less here. Love! Love! They were a little pushy for me to buy products, but I just kept saying no, and that was enough. I have been going to Arden for waxing services and that has been just fine. All of the aestheticians have been skilled and professional. However, I was in this morning and the older man, who I think is the owner was berating two of the employees. He was demeaning and rude as he screamed at them about how they entered data in the computer system. The woman who was doing my service sent me downstairs to wait, but I could still hear that guy lecturing and humiliating the women. It was painful to witness. I went to Arden for a spa service and listening to a man be so verbally abusive to a women was not at all relaxing -- it was disturbing and I am still upset about it. I"ve been a client at Ardan for over twenty years. Elie is the greatest hair stylist and has unique eye for finding the right hair cut to complement one's face and general appearance. I've always been very impressed with the results when Elie has suggested one change or another over the years. I enjoy going to the salon in that the staff will always be a mix of familiar and new. Despite being in the heart of an extremely wealth (and somewhat snobby town), the salon staff make everyone welcome. A highlight of the salon is of course Elie's wife and noted colorist Helena, full of good advice and enthusiasm. I cant imagine a better place to go. I recently went to Ardan for a haircut, hair treatment and facial. The ultrasonic facial was amazing and my skin never looked so good! It did not make my face red or irritated like other facials have in the past. Noah cut my hair - and it was a drastic cut. I've been getting my eyebrows waxed by Erin for years and she is the best! I have been going to school in San Francisco for the past 4 years and yet I always manage to wait until I am home for a visit to get my eyebrows done because I don't want anyone to do them but Erin! I will say I have a couple of friends who have gotten their eyebrows done at Ardan by other people and had horrible experiences. One friend had her eyebrows reduced to a thin line one time and had the skin pulled off with the wax a second time. Another friend was told that she had horribly uneven eyebrows and there was little magic that could fix them. BUT that is not my experience at all. I have been to several very well known spas since moving to Boston 10 years ago, and am never failed to be impressed at the level of quality, attention and service I get on my visits to Ardan. What I really appreciate and like about Ardan, outside of the fact the spa is owner owned and managed by Ellie and Helena (husband and wife) who are the essence of hospitality, is Ardan is sooooo very relaxing and accommodating. The knowledge and expertise of the staff, along with the excellent services offered, in my opinion are beyond compare and is never pushy or demanding but very intuitive, guiding, and I feel they listen to you and your needs and then proceed to exceed your expectations! As previously mentioned I have been to several very well known spas in the Boston metropolitan area, so trust me when I say Ardan is definitely a cut above average compared to most other spas I have tried in the area. In fact, since visiting Ardan for the past 8 years, Ardan is the only spa I've wanted to have my hair cut, have a facial or body massage. Also, the pricing at Ardan and selection of services are very reasonable priced and every time I left there felt I got excellent value for my money. I have gone to several high end medical spas and by far Susan Fallon, RN at Ardan Medspa has given me the best results that leave me happy and always returning. She does about any medical procedure you would want which is great and has done botox, fillers and lasers on me and listens to my concerns and makes recommendations. She recently helped me with bad scarring after a surgery and now the scars are greatly improved. As a former student at Wellesley, I had tried Ardan out a couple times--very hesitantly as the reviews on yelp are far from superb. The first ever time I tried out Ardan I had a massage, while it was not as intensive as I would've hoped, my bum shoulder (which had sharp pain) was completely pain-free. The second time I visited Ardan I decided to get a haircut. I don't remember my hairstylist name (it started with a 'J') but she was amazing! She cut my hair exactly as I wanted and gave my hair the best blowout I have ever had-- so voluminous and perfect. Right before graduation, I went into Ardan for a facial (there was a half-off special) and got my eyebrows done--I wish I had been before as the "Ultimate Ardan Facial" cleared up my skin instantly and it looked incredible the next day, and my eyebrows were perfectly shaped.
