I think this place needs more employees. They were quite busy and the service was totally lacking. I felt like she was annoyed with all the customers. The food was okay. I tried their dulce de leche pastry and it was just ok. The pastry part was hard and dry and the caramel part was very generous. Their empanadas are baked here and are pretty cheap. $1.55 for a hot and flaky empanada. I tried the brisket, beef & jalapeño, and spinach. The only one I enjoyed was the beef & jalapeño. The brisket tasted like a super salty turkey leg and the spinach wasn't very good. The filling reminded me of bad saag paneer. I do like the pastry they use to make the empanadas because it's a lot lighter than those I've experienced before. Overall, the bakery is very charming. I love this place. Pure and simple. In a city where even national chains are fleeing (Starbucks, which was just across the parking lot from Argentina Bakery, just left a few months ago, which means only one Starbucks is left for the entire south-of-114 region of Irving), Argentina Bakery's staying power is a testament to the quality of its service, products and yep, even marketing. Maybe I'm being a little generous with my rating because I'm desperate to have more independent cafes - hell, ANY cafes - in my side of town, but seriously, Argentina Bakery hits all the right notes. The selection of pastries is staggering - you could visit every single day for weeks and try a different, delectable sweet every time. Do they all taste as good as they look? Well, no, but that's to be expected. No one hits a home run with every at-bat, and the more at-bats you have, the greater your chances of striking out. Still, even the so-so pastries are just so pretty, so gorgeous to look at, that they almost make up for their mediocre flavor. You can't judge a book by its cover, but that doesn't mean you can't admire the cover anyway, simply for its aesthetic value. My favorite treats, though, are the flaky, bite-size empanadas with any number of filling options, from beef with jalapenos and eggs to chicken to spinach and cheese, and lots, lots more. I love scooping up about 3-4 of these, along with a cold bottle of water, and call it a great lunch. Polish it off with any of the desserts -- from the beautiful, colorful fruit tarts to the yummy cupcakes of various sizes to the chocolate-dipped madeleines with a thick layer of dulce de leche sandwiched in between -- and you will want to come back again and again. I almost hesitate to recommend Argentina Bakery because I'm worried that my favorite place in all of south Irving to hang out, get some work done, or just quietly read a good book, will soon be overrun with Starbucks refugees and hipster wannabes. So in a half-hearted effort to drive folks away, I will say that the coffee is so-so. I've had lattes, and my husband has had their regular coffees, and they're not anything special. I wouldn't make a special trip for them. Even their black, generic-label to-go cups have this vaguely 7-11-ish look to them, despite the fact that you're paying Starbucks-level prices. Still, that's about the only complaint I have of them. Their wi-fi is fast, and their bistro tables and chairs are plush and so comfortable, they clearly want people to hang out and stay awhile. Argentina Bakery has remodeled it's interior and I've got to say it makes a big difference. The place looks warm and inviting now. They taken away those loud fluorescent lights and added some lamps. The coffee menu has expanded with mochas, green tea frappes, pumpkin spiced latte, espresso, teas, and more. The iced caramel latte is awesome! Oh my gosh it hits the spot and goes perfectly with the cakes and cookies. My bud & I indulged and got the assorted Trens, masitas (cake with whipped cream), and assorted cookies. Another place that blows Starbucks out the water. It's also quiet enough to study and read. Half priced bookstore is next door... why not? Can't wait for my next visit. I think the ARgentina Bakery is a jewel in Irving. Tucked away in a strip mall by Target and across from the Irving Mall, you can easily miss it. When I saw it one day, I was amazed at how many baked goods they had. Huge cases packed with Latin pastries. The real treat are their fresh empanadas. They have several to pick from with all for a reasonable price. My favorite is the beef and jalapeno but then I also like the spinach as well. They have great coffee, espresso and lattes. They also have Argentina cooking supplies for sale like coffee and filo dough. If you haven't been then you have been missing out. As soon as we entered, the scent of freshly-made pastries lured us to try 3 or 4 items. We tried the cream puff and some of the flaky pastries with fruit. Everything was much better than the average bakery and very fresh. This place is is also a coffee shop - nicely decorated and inviting. I love when you walk into a coffee place and you don't feel like contemporary furnishings are stealing your soul. The service has always been very prompt and very friendly. And the pastries! Oh my God, the pastries! I always go for the empanadas, which are equal to none I've had anywhere else. They're flaky and moist with incredible, flavorful fillings. The beef and jalapeno is to die for. The little slivers of boiled egg they tuck in their are like little bites of heaven. I haven't sampled much of their sweets, but I'm a huge fan of the little shortbread cookies you can get in chocolate or white chocolate. Argentina Bakery has a large assortment of baked treats, both sweet and savory. I liked the spicy ground beef, hard boiled egg, and jalapeno empanada. The traditional arced shape of the ham and cheese empanada was a little doughy around the folded edges. Loved the vast array of dulce de leche pastries. I tried the besitos, which are small bite-sized rounds of puff pastry sandwiching dulce de leche. I like a higher dulce de leche to cookie ratio than what the alfajore de maizena offered but it was interesting to try the maizena cookie (made w/ corn starch). I preferred the conitos, which are small cookies topped with a large cone of dulce de leche and then enrobed in white or milk chocolate, yum! The tres leche cake cups (layered cake in a cup, not a cupcake) also looked good, but one can only snack so much! I went to Argentina Bakery in the late afternoon and the empanada selection was a bit limited but I would go back to try some other options. So , I went here and got the mini cakes and I got every single flavor and it was a better deal b/c if you get a half of dozen it's $6 . Super cheap! I tried it at home with my sister and parents. This bakery has by far one of the best Empanada for breakfast, lunch, snack or anytime for that matter because I just can't get enough of it. They sell mini desserts to made to order wedding cakes, etc I had the americano with empanada and the napoleon which was pretty good considering the location of this bakery across Irving mall. I saw so many people visit the bakery in the morning to get pastries, like it was a donut shop in the morning. The place sells tea bags and baking flours for those who wants to bake some at home. The pastries are more geared toward south american delicacies but do sell croissant, tarts, cakes, etc It seems that the place seriously has pastry chef working behind the establishment. Service was poor when my friends and I dropped by after 6 p.m. When asking about favorites, the worker had a bit of an attitude. Left and realized my iPhone was gone! Went back and the worker said it wasn't there. Used find the find my phone app, and it said it was still there but very soon the phone was turned off and the app could no longer locate it. Someone obviously took it since I had good battery power. So the worker was lying or a customer had it. Within minutes, we went in talking on the phone with the police and the worker magically said someone turned it in. We probed on who since nobody came in and the same customers remained. The worker was nervous and didn't say. We were nice and didn't report the crime, but it was a terrifying experience! Cannot comment on the food, but the Chai Latte is good if you like it milky. read more

I stopped here on the way home from work because I needed a cake for a dinner party that I was attending. I chose a chocolate chip chocolate cake with butter cream frosting. The decoration was gorgeous on the top of the cake with fancy little chocolate striped straws. However, I was awestruck when my total came to $42 dollars for three empanadas at $1.99 each and a cake. That's a seriously expensive cake and I thought... this better taste really really damn f'n good for that much money. I would say that the cake was really good, but not the really really damn f'n good like gold that I would expect for that much money. I'm not sure I would ever buy a cake here again, I would probably make the effort to get to Texas Star Bakery instead. Very nice place, nice seating area- excellent to spend some time drinking coffee and chating with friends. It is cozy and warm. Pastries are very good but almost all items have "dulce the leche" or guava paste in it. The guava paste is not creamy as I would expect- it has a funny texture instead (when cooked or baked too long). They also have cookies and fruit tartelletes plus empanadas and other items but we were in a mission to get desserts!! It is an excellent place to go to skip "La Madeleine/Starbucks" type of pastries and have more "home made" style! A must go if you are in the area. read more

Came to this bakery specifically for some good got coffee. They had the Mayan mocha latte, which I've always wanted to try and it was amazing. Very comforting with just the right amount of Spice. We ended up buying 6 empanadas. Chicken, steak, ham and cheese and spinach. They were all very good, and well stuffed. Chicken was my favorite. Can't wait to have some more of the coffee. read more

It was really tasty and the latte was blended perfectly (and the espresso was not burned like it often is at a chain coffee house I will not mention by name). It really helped me start my day right. Super excited to be back. The Mate was nice for a cold day with some sandwich De miga de jamón queso tomate y huevo. I remember the finely chopped huevo con jamón y queso a bit of mayo and inside of very thin slices of bread with fondness. SO delicious! I had driven by several times and wondered about it, so after checking reviews on Yelp & Urbanspoon, decided to give it a shot. I was immediately wooed upon entrance by the gigantic selection of pastries. I especially loved the beef & jalapeno empanadas and strawberry cream puff!!! After my first visit, I was still thinking about how yummy the empanadas were and how many pastries had yet to be sampled, so went back two days later. This time I tried a chicken empanada (in addition to the beef/jalapeno), some sort of dessert with spongecake, peaches, cream, merengue, and dulce de leche, and brought a fresh fruit tart home for later. I have no idea why there are so many dang ethnic establishments in Irving at which to grab your artisan goods, but I like it. Around this rather crappy suburb of Dallas, you can find empanadas galore, various foreign grocery stores set up around town, and many a sweet shop to satisfy that sweet tooth of yours. Argentina bakery is no different because there is quite a hefty selection of sweets and sugary drinks. They are not kidding around when they say they are 1 part coffee shop, 2 parts bakery, 1 part grocery store. And as custom at an ethnic eatery, there is a hodgepodge of random goods from Argentina. The goods here are moderately priced with coffees and the like running ~$2-3 and baked goods at about $1 a pop for some of the smaller items. Also, you can't eat some fare from South America without popping something along the lines of an empanada or turnover or something in your mouth. The flaky dulce de leche pastries were awesome, boasting a fantastic buttery crispness partnered with the typical creamy, milky consistency often found in the likes of DDL. The alfajore was very soft and buttery with just enough snap to give that South American cookie feel. All in all, AB certainly provides a good experience for a coffee appointment or a snack. Convenient location right on 183 and Beltline, to boot. Service could use a boost, though. read more

I've also had their cream cones and they're delicious. I have yet to try the rest of the pastries. The best thing of it all, its open till 9pm almost everyday. Its hard to find anything on this side of the town that stays open late, unless its a chain restaurant. If you're a resident of Irving, you must check out this fabulous bakery! That and the powdered sugar covered puff pastry. On the other,I asked for "two dozen" cookies. I received two dozen cookies. The next day, however, my receipt fell out of my wallet, and I saw that I'd been charged for 36. I'll be more careful next time, but such a pity that it's necessary! read more

Very happy to find this bakery during my work trip to the DFW area. Very nice ambiance, loved listening to Mana and Enrique on the speakers here, but it's a little too loud to get any work done. The tables are also too small to be anything other than a place to set your coffee while having a conversation. That being said, the desserts are traditional Latin American and beautiful, and the coffee is great. I loved the spinach ones and thought the beef ones were okay. Decent price if you buy a dozen. I was feeling experimental so I ordered a small Americano espresso and a dulce de leche pastry. The empanadas were calling my name too so I tried the spinach and ricotta one. Boy had I wished I ordered more than one! They were so tasty. They were out of lids for the coffee at the moment so I think the lady shot me a deal and only charged me $2.50...for coffee, a pastry, and the empanada. Fine by me. Great spot to come and just veg out solo or bring friends. There's also a Half Price Books next door so maybe venture to get a book and go to the coffee house to just chill. We just popped in here for desert after a spicy meal at Bangkok orchid nearby. I tried the strawberry masita which is a small piece of cake. Unfortunately it was a little dry and not very soft. My colleague tried the pineapple masita and it was slightly better. The nice lady behind the counter said thats the way they usually are. My other colleague was wise enough to ask her what the usual favorites were and she said the Dulce de leche is the way to go. They had several different cakes with ducle de leche ( caramel) and they were all very good. I will be back to try the rest of the stuff. Condiments were artificial sweeteners, white sugar, brown sugar, and half & half in tiny sealed cups. They did not have honey nor fresh cream like at Starbuck's. Their empanadas weren't the huge homemade empanadas with olives, ground meat, and veggies. These were small empanadas with a bit of meat & egg or spinach & cheese. The empanadas were hot and crispy. These empanadas were under heat lamps, fly free and not in their room temperature pastry cabinet. Only the room temperature pastry cabinet had flies in it and they had a fly buzzing around inside their coffee shop, too. Atmosphere (*** out of *****); A slice of Argentina with nice comfy armchairs next to electrical outlets for your tablet computer or smart phone. They have free wifi, but it wasn't working on the day that I went. Service (*** out of *****); There was only ONE employee inside, so it is just a self service and pay at the counter establishment. There were some crumbs on the chairs, but I don't fault her because she was the only one there. Conclusion (**** out of *****); I snuck in another star for value as I only paid a little over $6 for breakfast for 2. Empanadas were only $15 per dozen and coffee was less than $2. I have found myself in the Argentina Bakery 3 times this week after reading the Yelp reviews. I have tried several pastries which I sadly cannot even begin to pronounce(but are absolutely delectable)and I highly recommend this place to everyone. I have had both the Easter latte like drink and the regular cofee. The latte, I am sad to report, was something on par with very a very good latte from one of those machines at a 7-11. This is not to say that the latte was "bad", I just had higher expectations seeing as how I was not patronizing a convenience store. The house blend coffee on the other hand is absolutely fantastic. It is rich and flavorful while not being too bitter and is frankly a superior cup of coffee. If you are ever in the area, I highly recommend you stop in for a cup of coffee and a pastry. If you are like me and hopeless at anything more linguistically challenging than say "bad english," don't be shy, just point at what you want and the girl behind the counter will be very patient while you absolutely murder the pronunciation of your desired treat. The atmosphere indoors is very nice, with comfortable seating and plenty of tables if you want to go with friends. The outdoors seating is just as nice and my preferred spot to sip down some excellent coffee while having a nibble on some enchanting baked good. If I had to complain about anything it would be lack of parking. Being located in a shopping center, they are not blessed with the most abundant of parking facilities but even if you have to park a few doors down, the short walk is worth it for frankly outstanding coffee and baked sweets. read more

Empa Mundo piqued my interest in Argentinian food and with the proximity to my work I thought I'd give this place a try. SPOT on. The espresso drinks taste just like a college coffee shop, a little more care and personality than Starbucks--not that I'm not a Starbucks fan, but sometimes a change is welcome. The pastry selection is insane. I got an eclair and it took me all day to eat it because it was so filling! Pricing is right where it should be, I thought the eclair was a steal at $2.
