I'm not too familiar with the dishes, so I opted for the mini Bandera Paisa, which is a traditional dish consisting of pork skin, sausage, sweet plantain, fried egg, thin steak, corn cake, red beans, white rice, and avocado. Not sure how this was the mini dish, but everything was so good. The food was well seasoned and not overly greasy or heavy. My request for spice was delivered with 2 salsas and grilled serranos. My beverage of choice was a mango juice, very refreshing, and the natural sweetness was complementary to my savory dish. As a Colombian I am picky about my Colombian food. This place is the go to spot for Colombian food besides my mother's house of course. For starters always get at least one empanada as an appetizer, they are packed with beef and potatoes and full of flavor. When I go I usually get the Carne Asada with a side of Patacones (fried plantains) for my meal. The steak is cooked perfectly, comes with a potato that is smothered in cheese and some sauce. The fried plantains are nice and crispy. They bring out two salsas and I put them on everything because they are just that delicious. Other plates to try are the Bandeja Paisa and Picada. I use their online menu to order my food, I ordered the Chicharron Plate and it showed the price of $9.25, I went to pick up my food and I was charged $20 for it and my food was a bit good. So happy we found this place!!! We got there 30 minutes before closing on Sunday. We ordered carne asada con papa choreada and bistec con yuca guisada. All was good and the rice brought back memories of my grandma's rice in Cali. The beans were softly cooked. The carne asada was way too salty for my taste but the bistec was seasoned beautifully with garlic and herbs and little orange notes dancing in you palate. I don't enjoy spicy food but did risk tasting their hot sauce and both were vinegary and spicy. The hot sauce was amazing in the fried empanada which was meaty and those soft potatoes and criollo seasoning was the best combination. The shakes sounded so good but due to my dietary needs wasn't able to enjoy Lulo or Raspberry which were my favorites to transport me back to Carvajal in Cali! But today we wanted some Colombian food and we heard praises about Casa Vieja so we just had to check it out. Walking into the restaurant, I immediately was feeling the vibe. The lively decor and friendly staff made me feel like I was already going to enjoy my time here. They have a variety of options to choose on the menu. Now I'm not Colombian and I'm not too familiar with Colombian food however my husband is and he vouches this place so that is a good sign. For my beverage, I got a mango smoothie made with milk. They have a number of different fruit smoothies where you can choose it to be made with water or milk. It was delicious! For my dinner I got the Plato Caribeño. (Which translates to Caribbean Plate) it comes with your choice of grilled steak, chicken or pork (I chose the steak). Along with rice beans, plantains and avocado. I opted for extra plantains because I didn't want beans. The food was very well seasoned and full of flavor. And the plates came with good portions so you will have leftovers or at least be very full. They also have " ají " on the table. Ají is a Colombian salsa that is used for empanadas and other meats. I put it on my steak and it complimented it very well. So good!! They also have a section in the middle of the restaurant where on the weekends they clear out the tables and it becomes a dance floor. Let me start by saying: I am Colombian and I endorse this restaurant !! OMG !! This place was good !! We had never been to this place before but after our visit I feel like we are family !! No joke, from the moment we came in we were not only greeted but welcomed with enthusiasm! I thought maybe they knew some of the people in our party but no, it was all our first time there and that is just how the staff is. We were quickly taken to our table and provided with a menu but also offered some of the drinks from the bar or just regular drinks. That was nice because it got us engaged in conversation right away and not the typical "here is your menu, I'll bring you water while you figure out what you want - - I'm busy - - " kind of treatment you get at other places. I started the night the typical Colombian way, shot of aguardiente and a soft drink, in my case a Crema de Limón or lemon cream. I ordered a "morcilla with yellow potatoes (papa criolla) my favorites. I haven't had those in sooooo long, maybe 7 plus years. I ordered a second portion shortly after the first one came. The morcilla was really good. Not overly seasoned or with chunks of onions or anything like what you may find at places where they cut corners... it was very well done. I ordered a "bandeja paisa" or typical platter... comes with rice, beans, fried egg, chorizo, pork skin, flank steak, plantain, slices of avocado. Everything in it was great !! Again, sometimes you find beans made with chunks of onions or pieces of fat to "give it flavor" but that is the gross and lazy way to add flavor. These were good beans, made by someone who cared. For dessert I got me a side of figs with cheese and arequipe (dulce de leche - not caramel - is not the same) and another crema de limón. They have many varieties of fresh fruit drinks and it will take at least a dozen visits to go through all of them. My daughter tried the mango mixed with milk... Small thin skirt steak atop the most delicious rice, I don't eat rice, put I ate every piece of this rice. This was covered by two fried eggs, a piece of avocado, one of their flavorful sausages, and a potato disk (this was kind of bland). That was on about half the plate the other half was some of the most delicious beans I ever had. Service was solid - fast, efficient and attentive. It came with sweet plantains also. You can never go wrong with sweet plantains. That is my all time favorite!!! I can never get enough! The steak in the steak and chicken kabob was chewy and hard. It was too tough to eat so I threw away all the steak and ate the chicken. This dish was really salty. Is that how columbian food is suppose to taste like? salty? Drinks : They have a wide variety of fruit flavored margaritas, mojitos & milkshakes. Chose the custard Apple margarita frozen and the blackberry margarita. The margaritas were good but the fruit flavors were not a highlight. Tasted like a regular margarita. Appetizers: The beef empanadas with the house salsa were awesome. Highly recommend it. Everything is sooo amazing here from the empanadas to the bandeja paise to the Picadas! We always order extra so we can take some home! It's very tasty. COLOMBIAN CRAVE CHECK! Only thing that I didn't like too much was the arepa was a bit dry but every meat and starch we tried was delicious. Would definitely recommend!
