So this is our third time staying here and of course we love it ! This year was a bit different with all new staff and they are all fairly new . Not as friendly but the check out lady was extremely friendly ! The rooms are nice , the view is even better , we didn't eat there except some dessert and sat at the bar . Service, room and location. Our stay here was great. On the lake, we took a walk in the morning the leaves were turning. They had a fire going outside. We went to the restaurant and had dessert and coffee. The server said it was on the house! The only bummer was on Sunday the brunch was cancel and restaurant was closed. Had a wonderful stay at this property! Great staff makes all the difference. So I want to start with thanking them. Taylor and Hailey at the front desk were so nice and accommodating to our needs. Mike the grounds keeper was friendly and very helpful in making our stay in enjoyable. Trinity waited on us for breakfast and was attentive with great positive energy. Finally Hailey and Billy Joe from housekeeping were just as friendly and helpful as the rest of the Plum Point crew. The rooms were clean and with extra touches just to accommodate us! Our 2 day stay included staying in 2 different rooms on the property by our choice and the property's accommodating our request. We stayed in a traditional room the first night and their famous Yurts the second night. The yurt was our favorite, being a unique and enjoyable experience. The property has changed names recently from Rainbow Cove to Plum Point. Regardless of the name this is place is worth staying at for its location, unique rooms (the Yurts), and AWESOME staff!! We didn't eat at Sapalta for dinner due to it being a little too fancy with its menu choices for our taste. However it was great for the breakfast buffet. The first day we arrived, sunday, there was a wedding being held. Both the ceremony and the reception were held on property. The next morning we saw most of the wedding party at breakfast. The parents of the bride and groom raved at how wonderful everything was and how accommodating the plum point crew was in helping the wedding and reception be a great time!! It's a little more expensive but so worth it because the food is exceptional, the staff is so professional, and the location on the lake is magical. What a gem of a place! Highly recommend - we enjoyed our stay and the unique yurt experience. It was a good value and the staff was very kind and welcoming to our group. Location is amazing and so is the view. It's adorable place that's been updated and is clean and well maintained. The view from our room (room 1) was great. The decor is very cute and the toiletries were good as well. I'd stay here again in the fall when we could open windows (or even try a yurt) but definitely not when it's hot outside because the air conditioner is VERY loud every time it kicks on and off. It was hard to get a good night sleep because of that. It would be nice if they offered even a continental breakfast and coffee/juice because 2 of the 3 mornings we were in town, nothing was open for breakfast (Tues and Wed) so we had to get boring Dunkin in town. I'm taking one star off for the ac unit volume but other than that, it was a pleasant stay and friendly staff. read more

We stayed at a yurt while visiting a friend who lives in a small cottage (too small for us to sleep there) down the road. We loved the yurt!! There was a queen bed for hubby and me and a futon for my 6-year-old and the dog. We even had plenty of room to add the pack n play for my 1-year-old. The site was beautiful! We didn't get to go in the pool but wish we had more time to do that. The dock on the lake was stunning. I spent time there journaling, reading and relaxing. I was able to buy a bottle of wine from the shop (although it was marked up quite a bit). We got the breakfast buffet in the restaurant one of the days we were there and it would've been fine if it were free... but it was definitely not worth $15 a person we were charged. Oh well. Checked in today at 3:30. No one was at the front desk. Called the two numbers provided. No one answered. Nearly five hours have passed and no one has called me back. I received an email with a code to get into a yurt but not the yurt number. I tried every one--it didn't work on any of the 6. Finally got the kitchen staff to let us in. It was filthy. Dirty floor. No rugs or mats. Because no one was working (sign said they wouldn't be back til the morning) there was no way to light a fire. Because no one was working, I couldn't ask to switch rooms. I actually had to leave. I've sent emails to the provided address. No one seems to care. This was a nightmare. read more

This review is specifically written for a YURT. GLAMPING: Lovingly referred to as Yurts, this little tent is hotel meets tent. Luxury camping is the idea. As it sounds like, the walls are the same fabric as a circus tent. Natural light can be let in through optional zipper windows and a translucent skylight. There are two sleeping options LOCATION: There are 6 yurts located behind the parking lot. Leading from the gravel lot is a gravel pathway with Yurt 1 being the closest to the parking lot and Yurts 5 and 6 being farthest and closes to the back wood. There is fire pit located closer to Yurt 3 and 4 and will stay lit until 11pm. AMENITIES: As mentioned there is a gas fire pit but what sets the yurts apart from the hotel rooms is the fact that there is a microwave and mini-refrigerator in the room! There is also a small high top table with four bar stools for eating, a futon with extra sheets provided for additional sleeping, and a full and spacious bathroom with shower (no bathtub). The bathroom is enclosed so there is no worries about the whole yurt getting humid if someone is taking a hot shower. No continental breakfast but their restaurant Sapalta offers pastries for purchase and coffee (not on the cheap side). PRICE/RESERVATIONS: It seems that other than Sunday the Yurt rentals are 2 might minims. Also, Friday and Saturday night are and about an additional $100 more, give or take. Still the cheaper option of all the types of rooms. TIPS: While the stay here provided all the necessities, here are some tips to make your stay more comfortable: -Bring slippers! Then mats are all that protect your feel from the hard cold concrete floor especially during the fall or winter. There is an optional portable heater that could warm the yurt but concrete stays cold. - Keep your front door shades drawn. Random patrons who are not staying in Yurts will walk straight up to your door and look into your room through the windows. Awkward. -If traveling with cribs or pet beds, there is plenty of space to set up and still have room to move around. In conclusions: It is perhaps worth it to book early and check other places if you are looking for a better deal than a $150+/night to stay in a fancy tent but if money is no object then Plum Point Lodge is a lovely little stay while you tour the wineries of Seneca Lake. read more

This is a charming area to spend a night, but location is primarily what it has going for it. Right on the water so you can enjoy a relaxing drink on the water and take advantage of the fire pit. Upon entering we noticed a strong smell. I became innings to it after awhile but it did cause a headache. The rooms have *very* thin walls. We could hear our neighbors when their phone rang, when they snored, and while they were, um, partaking in extra curricular activities. Our AC unit was extremely loud and the constant cycling made it hard to sleep. Finally, I used the hair dryer provided in the room and it tripped the circuit breaker. I'm quite certain the rooms aren't wired correctly because it took our power in the whole room, vs just the bathroom. read more

The hotel is in a great location. Very nice by the water and chairs on the dock. Very quiet. It feels a bit like an Airbnb. Code to let yourself in. No conversation with the people that work there. Nice room but needs more attention to detail. Trash can was not empty and stain on the bathroom counter. No labels on the shower soap dispenser. The shower water was really hot or scalding. No coffee in the room and not available in the lobby until 7:15. read more

Location is beautiful! Right on Seneca lake with nightly bonfires. Check out the yurts, very cute. The rooms are adequate. Adorable little bar with great drinks and a great bartender Tori. Don't eat at the restaurant on site....expensive and not very good. We pushed around our dinners, the wine was good but the bill was $160. Go to a local winery with food. About 25 minutes from Watkins Glen. Also.....I would fire Trinity if I owned this restaurant. read more

For the amount of money that is spent to stay at your establishment, I would expect to stay in a clean room. My wife and I were immediately grossed out when we spotted all types of hair on the bed. On top of the covers and underneath. Considering the rest of the room "looked" clean, the bed sheets were either not changed after the previous customers had checked out or the washers and dryers on site are sub par. Nevertheless, we stopped by to see the manager on duty to explain the situation. Shortly after, she stopped by our room and dropped off replacement sheets which also contained some hair. After we changed the sheets ourselves we decided to spend the night. This made me not even mind that the AC sounded like a jet engine taking off every time it kicked on. The following morning we were told we would be contacted by the owner which never happened. We not only called and left messages which were not returned but we also emailed and received no replies there either. Please stay and spend your money elsewhere. read more

Event planners beware I just want to start off by saying this location was beautiful and this place has so much potential! The location was the reason my husband and I fell in love with the place. We decided to get married here thinking it would be perfect to have everything on site rooms for our guest to stay, reception and ceremony. Which would be perfect if anyone on the property knew what they were doing or had any kind of communication with each other. We should have canceled when the event manager would take days to weeks to get back to us and her voicemail was always full. We planned a stay the month before our wedding because we are from out of town and needed to figure everything out prior to the wedding. With that said we were promised a king room over looking the lake. We got there and they put us, a soon to be married couple in a room with two full beds. This trip was supposed to make me feel more confident about our wedding weekend and it just made me more stressed, realizing how un managed this place was! Fast forward to our wedding weekend our guest arrive and all their rooms were dirty my parents rooms sheets weren't changed my brothers shower had hair in it, our shower had hair in it and my sisters room had a mouse that she found mouse pellets in her bed. this mouse ate through her food that was in her room as well. These rooms are not cheap! Especially for the quality. I was extremely embarrassed to have my family stay at this resort due to the conditions. The day of the wedding I was promised help on setting up our reception area, but was later informed the day of our wedding the event manager was not showing up till 30 mins before I had to walk down the aisle. Needless to say my wedding party and my fiancé were running all over the place trying to get everything set up. Without my sisters and family this wedding would of never happened. I do want to say the two staff members that that were in charge of cocktail hour and the bar were absolutely amazing! I wish I knew their names because I have no complaints. They did what they could and were very nice and accommodating. Next our food, we were promised pizza for the kids as a separate food option, this never came. The shrimp we chose during the food tasting was not the same shrimp that they had at the wedding. And lastly we chose asparagus and had green beans. All and all my ceremony and reception area both turned out beautifully, even with all the added chaos and stress! I'm just disappointed because we chose this place based on our stay a couple years back and It's definitely not the same. We made our guest travel 4 + hours to come to a subpar hotel that charged 250 a night for a dirty room. Our guest were all supposed to receive a discount and unless you brought it up the the front desk multiple times you weren't receiving a discount, so multiple guest didn't receive any kind of discount which is mainly the reason we had guest stay on the property. I think this place is beautiful and it's a shame the owner is just letting it go. We will not be returning until there is some kind of change, and that is sad bc this is the place we got married read more

Giving this place 4 stars because the combo of solid diner-ish food, throw-back kitschy atmosphere and awesome view of Seneca Lake make for a really really enjoyable dining experience. The seasonal restaurant is attached to a kind of hotel/motel. They are open from Mother's Day to mid Oct (10/18/15 this year), and their rooms are booked solid a year in advance. The place has no access to lake swimming, but they do gave a pool and you can rent pontoon boats for $50 per hour. The view is the perfect lake view, though there is no outside dining - but a big bank of windows affords views from everywhere inside the joint. Out front they have a dock with chairs where you can sit in the sun, enjoy the boat traffic and digest. Food, well, really nothing special, only that it is totally solid diner fare. We had pancakes, home fries, eggs over easy and bacon plus English muffins, with endless cups of coffee. Portions were large, and for under $20, with tax and tip, it's a great deal. Right now, the bridge off The 'main' road (App--- something) to Rainbow Cove is out, so you have to enter at Plum Point Rd (off Rt. 14) then turn right at the end and it's on your right. We made the mistake of turning when we saw the huge sign off Rt. 14, ignored the 'bridge is out' sign, drove all the way down and had to turn around and drive back. From Geneva it's probably 20-30 min drive. Highly recommended! read more

Had a very nice stay over Labor Day weekend. The General Manager, Natalie, was most welcoming and shared with us some of the history of the place, including how the property was the Rainbow Cove Motel until 2018 but then underwent a renovation and re-opened as Plum Point Lodge for Mothers' Day weekend 2019. Very comfortable beds and the renovated bathrooms are very nice (although one may have to wait a minute or two for the water to get hot in the shower). The plum-and-grey color scheme is everywhere and even the bath products are in keeping with the theme. The rooms have standard hotel room-size refrigerators. Sunday brunch at the Sapalta Restaurant was great - recommend the frittata. The staff lights a fire in the lakeside fire pit in the evening (weather permitting). The property is about at the mid-point of the west side of Seneca lake with plenty of wineries within just a few minutes drive. 15-20 min to Watkins Glen and the awesome state park there. The one part of the property that needs work is the pool. With the room and restaurant renovations complete, might be worth asking if the pool is next before you book for next year if that's important to you. read more

We made reservations a year ago and when we went to check in they had moved our room. The room they moved us to only had one bed for 3 people. They offered to give us a little discount but told us they could not give us another room because they were fully booked. They moved our reservation without notice or no explanation. The receptionist called the owner who was not willing to help us. We ended up getting all our money back and then had to struggle to find another place to stay after driving 6 hours. Then they offered to book us again next year. If they couldn't get our reservations correct this year why the hell would we go back. read more

This is a vintage hotel left over from last century. We are at the restaurant on occasion, but I've never stayed at the inn. The restaurant has a beautiful view of the lake, and the breakfast special is a great value. They serve it up quicker than anything I've ever seen - so fast we laughed about whether they had it waiting for us or something. We were very disappointed by the room. It gave a dirty, cheap, cold and dark appearance. The bed spread was over washed and had lots of pulled threads. The room was very cold and had a loud rattling air conditioner running. There was no carpeting just a vinyl floor. The people above us could be heard walking around. We could only go to sleep when they did. The view was obscured by blinds and curtains. People could look right into your room. Location is the only thing going for this place. Only the outside part of the restaurant was nice - food so-so . Breakfast was coffee and pay for a bun. The following day there was no water in the whole place and no indication that it was going to be fixed anytime soon. We left. read more

Had a wonderful stay over 4th of July weekend. Room was very clean and beds very comfortable. Bathroom was lovely. It was a very hot weekend but the AC worked fabulously and no funky smell like some individual units cause when the filter is not cleaned!! Had breakfast on the patio of the restaurant and loved it! Wow. This is a great place where it feels like you've gone back in time to a simpler era. The complex looks like a cool campground from the 50s. A long 2 story buildings and then smaller bungalow cottage buildings. The decor matches the retro wooded wilderness feel but the rooms are very clean and comfortable. They rooms have shared patios that have a great view of Seneca Lake. All of the rooms provide a lake view and the lake is just about 15 yards from the building. Upon arrival we rented a pantoon boat for 2 hours and cruised Seneca Lake, taking time to just float and going for a brief swim. The boat rental is done right at the front desk and was cheaper than I expected. I currently live in L.A., but spent a number of summers as a kid around Seneca Lake and the Finger Lakes. I wound up at Rainbow Cove while traveling there with my girlfriend for Labor Day during an extended trip back east. We went to Lloyd's Limited (the world's best pub) for dinner then returned to find that the motel makes a bonfire by the water each night. As the bonfire died out, we listened to the gentle crashing waves onto the shore and watched the water dance under the full moon. They have a retro diner that matches everything else about the place and offers breakfast specials for prices that don't seem to have changed since the 50's. But we choose instead to have a fancier breakfast at Glenora Winery which was also beautiful and delicious. The proprietors were very friendly and helpful. The guy helped launch our boat and make sure we had everything we needed for our cruise. We liked the place so much we bought sweatshirts with the motel logo. There are fancier places along Seneca Lake but this is a fun place for adventurous couples looking for a unique experience and a story to tell. It offers a romantic feel for the price of an inexpensive hotel chain. When I travel back to the area I hope to stay there again. read more

Stumbled upon this little gem near our rental cottage. Stopped in for breakfast and was pleasantly surprised. Simple breakfast menu, with all the breakfast essentials and exceptional prices. The staff was extremely welcoming and great breakfast service. Older vibe but beautiful views. I would enjoy writing a review of our stay, but it never occurred. Our travel agent booked 9 rooms (with her credit card) for our group 6 months ago. When she attempted to confirm our reservations a couple of weeks ago, she was told by Penny that there was no record of us. She followed up with Natalie with whom she originally made the reservation, that it had been lost in the system. Although she acknowledged copies of the emails exchanged proving our reservation, she was cavalier about her error, reprimanded our travel agent for being discourteous to her colleague Penny, and said there was nothing she could do. A follow up with David proved equally as frustrating. He offered us a 10% discount for a future booking (the same as if you sign up for their marketing emails)....so really nothing for their mistake. It's one thing for errors and glitches to occur, but it was the dismissive, non-conciliatory attitude that made this more infuriating and inexcusable. None of them apologized for the mishap, but instead... surly and unprofessional in their responses. read more

Room smelled moldy, was freezing when we first got there, had to get a manager in to control the cold temperature. The guy who works the late afternoon/evening shift at front desk did nothing when I reported that a motorcycle was parked in front of our room door. Apparently this establishment attracts a lot of motorcycle riders. I had to ask the owner myself to please move his motorcycle, which he did. What if he had refused? I was on my own. Room was very small for nearly $250 per night. Dinner at restaurant there was good, but very overpriced. The evening bon fire sent fumes into our throats and lungs, which was very disturbing and we finally had to leave our seats on the lake to get away from it. No concern at all for the people affected by the wind blowing the smoke towards us. Woman who works day shift at front desk is very nice and understood my complaints about the really poor communication of the desk guy on the later shift and the manager. This is a place that looks pretty on the outside and has a beautiful lake view. But inside the rooms is a different story. Look for a place that's worth the $. read more

Local family owned hotel and restaurant out of the 70s. Stopped in for dinner because the restaurant was down the street from the cottage we were renting. Ordered haddock dinners. Food came quickly. Shrimp we're dry and overlooked. Haddock was not freshly prepared; been on the steam table a while. Salad bar choices were limited and lettuce was not crisp. The corn was canned.Prices were moderate. There is so much competition in the area; they should really update the menu and focus on preparing the food fresh and to order. Diner quality is the best description. read more

I am extremely frustrated and disappointed with my experience here. We booked two nights in a yurt and when we arrived everything looked great! However, the yurts are not equipped with heat and the temperature outside was in the 20s. The hotel staff called me a week in advance and told me there would be a space heater provided as it would be very cold the nights we were planning to stay. Technically, they did provide one, but it didn't work. It was so cold my partner and I could not sleep, even with 5-6 layers of clothing on, and ended up leaving at 4am to go back home (a 4.5 driving distance away) because we couldn't take it. I would have called the front desk to ask for a heater, however, when they called a week in advance to provide details about our booking they made it clear that we were the only guest checking in that night and because of this, they would not have any staff on the property. They told us not to call for anything until Friday afternoon. So I called Friday afternoon to ask for a credit/refund for our second night's stay since we left early and they refused saying I should have called earlier in the day so they could try and rebook the yurt. How was I supposed to call earlier in the day when there was no staff on the property and I was instructed to not call until Friday afternoon? The receptionist I spoke to was very rude and rushed me off the phone when I tried to explain the situation. It seems like this place only cares about the money they can get out of their patrons and not much else. I am very disappointed and will not recommend this place to anyone in the future. read more

STAY AWAY So disappointed. We stayed here a few years ago and loved it. It's worn down and gross now. They are changing the name of the hotel, so beware. Mattress was unbearable. Definitely nicer places to stay in the area. Our kids were bored out of their minds here and the dock got really really slippery in the rain. The Rainbow stands out among the many small hotels and motels that circle the Finger Lakes. No road between you and the water. We loved the quiet, the nightly bonfire and the morning sunrises. We discovered it under new ownership on our return visit this year and so far so good. They've added a bar, a lounge and are building yurts, but they haven't messed with the quiet or the lake and that's what we come for. A wine shop and new games room are promised. We'll be back to watch the progress. We just hope the "improvements" don't make it too popular! read more

I had high hopes for this restaurant. It has signs up and down Route 14 so we figured we would give it a chance. It is off the beaten path. Sometimes you find a gem other times you find stones. The location is breath taking. It sits across the street from Seneca Lake. The hotel is from a bygone era well maintained. The restaurant had cool antiques to look at. The gentleman that greeted my family was pleasant. The waitress was pleasant to a point (if you can forget the facial expressions when she didn't think you were looking). The cook was rude and unprofessional. My niece has a food allergy that causes her throat to close down. I recently had lap-band surgery to I am limited in what I can eat. My nieces wanted a bacon, lettuce and cheese sandwich. I needed the turkey salad on a plate instead of a roll and wanted soup broth only no vegetables or beef. You would think we asked her to go to the lake and catch us fresh fish and hunt for a wild turkey. Her exact words "Why can't they order like normal people?" Last time I checked most people make modifications to their order. Food arrived: 1) Turkey Salad tasted wonderful until I found a long piece of blonde hair in my food. I have short brown hair. 2) The beef vegetable broth tasted like water with a beef cube in it. No seasoning at all. 3) My nieces sandwich - bacon under cooked, cheese and toast burned. I was overall disappointed in the service and food. I wish it was a better experience. Maybe it was just an off day. Maybe I will go back again in the future. read more
