Dropped in here while visiting Chico recently. We were drawn in by the cozy bar atmosphere, and stayed to have a couple of cocktails. They were getting ready to do a music event in the back, which we didn't stay for, but the back patio looked like a cool spot for music. It was EDM night, but the night before it sounded punky, so they mix it up - which is great! Good spot. They have some interesting cocktails, and it seems like chill place. First and last time visiting your bar. I went with a group of friends to your bar, it was the evening and it was not very busy. We waited for a while to get our drink orders in, finally we get our drinks and walked out back. We sat and then I had to use the restroom, when I came out of the restroom and tried going to my table I was stopped by an employee and said I had to pay to go out back, Umm I was just out there, my friends are back there and so is my drink. He said NO you have to pay to go in the back. I said all the people in there did not pay, he said well now you do. I asked if he could get my drink, No again. This ended you as a place to spend money. You will not be recommended and I hope your employee's learn some hospitality. I am embarrassed for you. read more

So I have to give a very negative review for Argus!! When I went to pay for my drinks tonight at Argus, the bartender dropped my card and did not give it back with the receipt. When I asked for it back, she said I gave it to you already. When I said no, you didn't can you please look for it, she was rude and ignored me. I requested to them to talk to the manager to review the photo cameras , to which they discovered they had dropped my card on the ground. They returned the card with no apology and attitude, and no offer of any compensation. Customer service beyond poor, downright rude. Not impressed! read more

In a college town where most all bars cater to the barely 21 drunk crowd, I found this place and I'll definitely be going back. Inside the decor is as "loungy" as it gets in Chico with soft lighting and good looking full bar that caters to a mix crowd and serves good drinks. Good friendly service... There's also a large back outdoor area where live musicians perform (I've heard), and there're games to be played too. Smoking is allowed so you can enjoy your drink, smoke if you like and enjoy the music and patio games. read more

I was extremely impressed in every single aspect. I have no clue what the other reviews are talking about with bad customer service. I think maybe they need to better manage their expectations? This is not a dive bar, wait your turn and you receive great service. We came here by suggestion from some friends went up to the bar to find a well stocked bar (one of the few in Chico) that has some interesting and good bottles not just your standard bullet Smirnoff and casamigos spot like most everywhere else. The bartenders do expect you to wait your turn to be helped but let you know and once they are ready for you they are happy to talk over different bottles and talk through their cocktails which is awesome! They have the craft cocktail bar vibe with quality and unique cocktails, good alcohol, good atmosphere but what made it for me was the service, normally craft cocktail bars the bartenders are extremely pretentious but here it seems like they really do just want to make you a good drink and aren't so stuck up on their 50 different "special" simple recipes that no one cares about and making sure they stir the cocktail with some special spoon exactly forty three and a half times after they waft the essence of some random berry from lands unknown over the drink. These guys get your order and make it for you right then without the useless fanfare. Fantastic! read more

Seriously top notch service, bangers for beverage recommendations and all around a great time. Highly recommend! And they have bougie bar snacks now! Pretzel bites were a huge hit. Great non college bar. A bit on the expensive side, they aren't selling well drinks, hand crafted cocktails, 10+ bucks. And they are delicious, at first I was like woah, tastes great, where's the booze, then I stood up I realized I didn't taste it cause it was so well done. Also because they aren't slinging Coors and wells, it takes time to order and wrap up your tab. Be ready with your order and maybe close tabs as you go. Staff were friendly enough but it felt like part of the vibe was old times rough. It's small on the inside but very cool. Outside was smoky smelling unfortunately and the night we were there they had duelling pianos so 15 dollar cover to be out there. Seemed like a good crowd though so maybe a thing to check out. Bought tickets to outside venues for music performance. What they failed to tell you is you will be standing outside wall-to-wall people. Not exactly sure what you're paying for but it is not a concert and you are not guaranteed a seat. Overall negative experience and 105° weather. read more

I like the ambiance of this place but please please please check your receipt before closing out your tab. The bartender last night kept charging my tab for drinks my friends got instead of them. When I asked him about it he seemed unapologetic and shrugged his shoulders with a who cares attitude. Super unprofessional. Other than that this place is worth checking out. read more

They are redecoratinggggggggggggg. I love the new additions and the art pieces being put up and I really think that it adds so much more character to Argus. The bartender was super nice and talkative and it was very nice to just have a real chat with em. The outdoor patio was revamped as well and I'm lookin gn forward to coming back during the warmer months to enjoy sipping some cider in the patio. Lol plus they always have one of something of beer to try. Def a good go too. Honestly it never gets too packed on a regular night which is awesome in a sense for me. Haha though I will say on special nights with music it does gather quite a crowd. read more

First time customer. Stopped in for a drink before a concert at Chico State. Maybe 6 people inside when we arrived. Placed my order for a Paloma and a coke. Guy who took my order made the Paloma and immediately left the building with a group. I paid a different bartender with a $20. and received my Paloma only and the bartender walked away. Caught bartender again and said, "I also ordered a coke." She said I was only charged for Paloma" and walked away with no desire to serve me. Not impressed. read more

Love the strong drinks they serve, able to tolerate the fam. We were able to score a table on the patio. The outside seating is surrounded by ivy on a brick wall which makes a comfortable vibe. I have a love/hate relationship with this place. There are times I feel like I need to grow an ironic mustache and wear non-prescription glasses to fit in here. It's overrated, and some of their drinks just taste awful to me. I do like the pub mix on the tables and the outdoor bar. Their Moscow Mule has a real kick of ginger. So if you don't like ginger, I wouldn't recommend it. Their Waterfelon is pretty good too. Now don't get me wrong, I love Whiskey, but Argus' specialty whiskey drinks are not the best and I have yet to find one on their menu I like. They sold a lot of tickets but had limited seating so no where to sit when we arrived . I did complain to the sweet bouncer who brought 2 inside chairs out for us since we are in our 70s. A classier bar meant for older college students, grad students, and working professionals. Interior is a bit small, but offers plenty of seating. Bar top itself is very small, and since its a mixology bar, you may find yourself waiting for up to 10 minutes for a drink. Prices are above average as far as Chico prices go, but they carry high quality spirits. Patio is spacious, but unfinished. They should add some music, more seating, and some heat lamps. read more

Man this is a cool bar! No doubt I stumbled on this by chance... They had a happy hour sign outside with specials and they run till 7 PM. College students need to make their way on over if you ask me but not everybody wants them around. Once inside I had a great old fashioned and my date had the Irish Mule. Both were enjoyed and we found their patio to be super cool. Inside the bar is kind of dark and I guess that's normal. The bartender was very courteous and helpful. I was able to solve the puzzle outside in the rear patio and so once that was done I made my exit. Overall the place seemed clean and chic... Definitely worth coming back or checking out if you haven't yet! read more

This is probably my least favorite bar to go to. It's extremely hipster. I don't blame the bar, but the people that go and the Thursday music make it uncomfortable. It's fitting for Chico. Everyone is guaranteed to have a beard. Stop in and play ring toss and drink a beer. The inside bar is better than outside. I really like this bar because of the aesthetic and vibe of it. Whoever they have at the front door checking IDs that night are always really nice. My poor review is coming from a night that I went. It was very slow this night, not really anyone in the back where the bar is at which was surprising to us, but we loved because yay no line for drinks. There was a girl bartender that night, Caucasian, long hair I believe she was a red head, not sure. But she was absolutely rude. Did not greet us at the bar whatsoever. She was cleaning and putting up chairs while we were standing there and didn't ask if we were ready to order drinks or anything. I asked her if they had Red Bull, because I like to use it as chaser. She made a snarky comment rolling her eyes saying "we're not that kind of bar." And walked away to put up more chairs. It was only 10/11pm at this time. Don't know what she meant when she made her comment, she could've easily just said "no sorry we don't have that." We were put off and quickly decided to leave because of how rude she was.
