The people were friendly, the crowd welcoming. I was a regular patron who enjoyed the atmosphere 2-3 nights a week. I came for the Karaoke. SIL had 2 hosts until recently. I like them both but a week or so ago one was "let go". This was done without notice, without considering what effect this might have on its clientele. OK, people lose positions all the time, right? Yeah, but the way they did it, their lack of loyalty, both to the KJ and to us their patrons who were not allowed one last night to say goodbye, that dismissal showed us all that WE were disregarded. I, and many of the regulars will not be back.

It's unique and full of character, even if it isn't perfectly aligned with my usual preferences. My husband, a local who grew up in Butte County, shared some great stories about his Chico State days, back when this was still a quieter town of wealthy families with unpaved roads. We ordered at the counter and then sat down at a table. We only waited about 15 minutes to get our food. My son and I ordered the Great Bacon Burger and specialized it to our liking. I ordered the side salad and he got curly fries. His roommate ordered the Near Burger with curly fries. When we got our food, the boys' burgers were not the way they had ordered them (one had cheese and the other had tomatoes). And it wasn't clear was whose was whose. My side salad was basic basic fare. I should have ordered the curly fries. I probably won't be back, but it was fun to visit the iconic Chico restaurant.

Leo came by and cleaned our table off. Unfortunately I had removed my lower partial denture to eat and I wrapped it up in a napkin. I wasn't paying attention and Leo grabbed our baskets and empty drinks for us. About 30 minutes later my gal says where is your denture? Oh NO!!!!! IT GOT THROWN AWAY!!! So I found Leo and told him to see if he remembered which garbage can it may have been tossed in. We went to the first one he apologized but it wasn't his fault. I dug in and couldn't find it in the first can and it was a mess. Nasty! But no denture. He says must be the can behind the bar. I expected him to bring it out for me to dig through. Nope Leo dives in digging through the trash and about half way in the nasty mess he suddenly pops up with my denture in hand!!!!! Hands it to me. Amazed he didn't hesitate to help find it. And apologized for taking it. It's was his fault and I appreciate his help BIG TIME! Saved me about $1700. Couldn't believe we found it. Can't say thanks enough for the effort.
