The food, service and ambiance are all great !! Eating at the bar is fun but at a table is more personal.

Had the chance to revisit Crush recently while passing through Chico. It really held up. We made a reservation so we could be sure to get in this time. We were promptly seated, and given a great spot near the wall-sized indoor fountain which was nice. We started with cocktails and appetizers, and they all came out quickly. We started with bread, which was excellent. We moved on to the grilled artichokes, which were also pretty special. The jalapeno aioli added to the smokiness of the grilled artichokes. We loved them. The bib salad was also a treat - nice chop, and the lardons were perfectly cooked little flavor bombs that stood up nicely to the blue cheese. We had the lobseter ravioli, and the single-layer crispy lasagne for our meals. The lobster ravioli was delicious, and the freshly made sundried tomatoes added a little extra structure to balance the plate. The single layer lasagne was really interesting. Wasn't sure what to expect, and the server said it was a little controversial, so I tried it. It came out as a large sheet - fresh spinach pasta sheets, layered with a delicious bolognese sauce, and topped with pesto and bechamel. Unconventional? Yes. Delicious? YES! I'm so glad I was feeling experimental - it was an innovative dish. Overall, we loved it. Service was very solid - attentive, without being intrusive. Perfect evening! Previous review: Dropped in here just to check it out. We came early on Thursday, and it was jumping! Got a seat at the Kitchen bar to have a few apps, and a cocktail, and had a fantastic snack and talked with some great folks in the kitchen. 10/10 - Read on for why. My wife and I have enjoyed coming to Crush for years. The location and ambiance have always been amazing, and we've also never had a bad meal here. In the past, we used to come much more often for Happy Hour as their appetizers, pizza's, and small plates are delicious. Yesterday, we decided Crush was the place to be for our 14-year anniversary, and it exceeded expectations. The food was delicious as always (I had the Allen Prime Rib and my wife had the Short Rib Stroganoff). But what took it over the top was our server - Ethan. He was awesome. He was friendly, warm, personable, attentive, and on top of everything. Being at a great restaurant with great food is still only a GOOD experience if your server is disengaged. However, when your server is awesome, it elevates everything. My wife and I ended the evening highly satisfied and grateful. Thank you Crush (and Ethan) for such a great anniversary night. read more

I made reservations for dinner at Crush for my husband's 60th birthday. I chose Crush over other restaurants in town because they have chicken piccata, his favorite. I have been there many times and never had any complaints. We started by ordering cocktails and after they were brought we ordered an appetizer, salad and entrees. While we were starting the appetizer the salad came which was not great but no big deal. Halfway through eating those items the entrees came so we had to put them aside to sit and get cold while we finished what we were eating. It felt very rushed, like the server Katie just wanted us out of there. She offered to fire us up new entrees or keep ours warm but I make it a rule to never send food back. She brought us a birthday dessert which was great and we ordered coffee. Then she brought us the check without ever bringing us coffee. It was starting to feel personal. Katie ruined our experience and I wonder why she wanted us out of the restaurant so quickly. I observed other tables having their dinners spaced out nicely. I hope this is not the norm for Crush because it was extremely disappointing. I liked the food but will never go back for a special occasion. read more

For my daughter's birthday, she chose Crush in Chico, and as first impressions go... this one made a strong entrance. You step inside and head upstairs, and suddenly the outside world is forgotten. It's its own little realm holding court in the heart of Chico. It is warm, inviting, and has plenty of seating, with a full cast of attentive staff, and decor that doesn't shout "Italian!" from the rooftops, but is very hipster whispering with confidence. We opened with the lamb appetizer, and I'll admit this with measured humility... it rivaled my own. Tender, well-seasoned, and not a trace of that gamey nonsense. The Brussels sprouts followed suit, crisped just right, delivering that perfect bite between char and flavor. The bread and dipping combo? Let's just say restraint was not my strong suit. A few pizzas passed by like temptation itself, and every one of us took notice. Plans were made... our future visit in the works. For the mains, the birthday girl claimed the ribeye, and it arrived exactly as it should... cooked to perfection, with potatoes that could quietly steal the show if you weren't paying attention. Her boyfriend and I, in a moment of questionable maturity, settled our fate with Rochambeau. He emerged victorious and took the crispy chicken breast with gnocchi, a dish generous enough to test even a committed appetite. I went with the short rib ragu, rich and comforting, the kind of plate that doesn't need explaining. The drink selection holds its own, and the dessert menu read like a final act worth staying for... but we were defeated in the best possible way and bowed out early. Service never missed a beat. Present, attentive, and smooth from start to finish. Parking, as with most things in downtown Chico, requires a bit of patience and perhaps a small offering to the parking gods. But once inside, it's quickly forgotten. All told, a night well spent. Good food, good company, and a place that knows exactly what it's doing without needing to announce it. We'll be back... if only to answer the question those passing pizzas left behind. read more

I've dined at Crush before. But that was years ago! I went there recently and thought it was time to share my thoughts! The atmosphere of the restaurant is busy, yet you don't feel packed in like a sardine, or overwhelmed by all the hustle and bustle of servers and customers moving around. My party and I sat down and we were immediately served chilled water from a fancy bottle. They gave us these fancy-looking, small glasses. Loved that! And then we ordered soft drinks - asked for Coke. It was fine, but we got it in bottles. Not that I don't like drinking a bottled Coke every now and then, I just would've preferred it from the fountain machine. Anyway, they gave us larger glasses with ice to better enjoy the soda. We ordered appetizers - Bruschetta and Meatballs. They arrived quickly and were phenomenally exquisite. I just wish the portions were slightly bigger because they were gone like that! Bread used for the Bruschetta was light and crunchy - how I like it! And the fresh tomatoes and vinegar really impressed me. Meatballs were also excellent - high-quality meat and delicious tomato sauce and everything was appropriately seasoned. Out of curiosity, and because we were still hungry, we ordered a pizza. It was a slightly above average pizza - nothing to write home about. I probably wouldn't order it again, but it was worth trying. For our main courses, we all ordered steaks. They were all cooked how we had requested them and cut like butter. The mashed potatoes we got with them were kind of bland - not much flavor or texture. And I feel that for the price, maybe a side salad could've also accompanied the steak. Our server, while friendly, was very slow and we seemed invisible to him at times. This was the part of our dining experience that really upset us. Overall, Crush is still a worthy restaurant to try if you're a Chico resident or are ever in this city. I would love to go back, mainly because I want to try some of the other appetizers and even a dessert or two. I really enjoyed the chicken Parmesan at Crush. The cheese was perfectly melted with just a touch of browning, and I could still taste the crunch of the breaded chicken underneath. I also loved the balsamic vinegar served with the bread. It had a hint of sweetness that set it apart from others, and I appreciated the beautiful pattern they made with it before adding olive oil. The Brussels sprouts were delicious too, with a soft inside and a perfectly crisp outer layer. The restaurant has a lovely patio for outdoor seating as well as spacious indoor dining areas. First off this place is beautiful and elegant. We had the opportunity to sit on the balcony with the view of downtown Chico while the sun was setting! The weather was perfect and the service was excellent. Our waiter suggested drinks for us and breakfast and oil was brought out to us. Loved the cute touch with the restaurants bake in the oil. We started off with Brussels sprouts and the shrimp arrbbiata. The appetizer set the standard for the meal and these did not disappoint! The Brussels sprouts were crispy and crunchy yet sweet and salty! The shrimp was placed on a thick sourdough bread that was so soft by the lemon garlic butter that the fork easily cut into it! This dish lemon scampi sauce was so delicious I need the recipe asap!! For entree we ordered lobster ravioli that has a form cream lobster reduction that was so creamy and buttery! The ravioli was perfectly cooked and soft! Probably the best lobster ravioli I've had! The second entree was the shortrib ragu and the rib meat were tender and the pasta soft! Got a to go order so take my review with a grain of salt. I'm sure it would be better if I ate it there. I got the Hillstone salad and the Short Rib Stroganoff. For those two dishes it was around $65. The salad was fine, they pack it in the to go container upside down so at first I thought they forgot the toppings! I didn't love the dates in it, I'd have preferred dried cranberries. Also the avocado was not salted at all which I didn't like. Otherwise, it was tasty. The Short Rib Stroganoff was very heavy. The meat was tender and pulled apart without a knife, which i liked. The pasta was topped with cheese, and by itself tasted great. The sauce the short rib was in, which sat under the pasta, was super heavy and wasn't my favorite. I liked that the taste at first, but ended up having to stop eating sooner than I would have wanted from the richness. It's almost like when you eat a chocolate cake that's too sweet and you just can't go on. I like it but probably wouldn't order it again. read more

We've been going here more and more. The menu is on point. Service is great, but depends very much on the age of the servers. The mixologist behind the bar is a bright star, as he is certainly going places. We can't wait to go back every time we're in town. We can't say enough good things here. read more

We made a reservation through Yelp at Crush and arrived on time, only to be told our reservation had been "canceled by guest." We did not cancel and never received any cancellation confirmation. What made the situation worse was how it was handled. The manager was dismissive and insisted there was no way this could happen unless we canceled it ourselves, rather than looking into it further. There was even a "restore party" option visible, but they refused to use it. To their credit, they did eventually find us a table, but by that point the interaction had already been uncomfortable. We stayed because we had limited options, but the experience definitely took away from the night. Hoping they take a closer look at both their reservation system and how situations like this are handled with guests. A little accountability or willingness to investigate would have gone a long way. read more

Food and service were excellent at Crush. The restaurant itself has a nice ambiance. We shared truffle fries, fried mushrooms, pappardelle bolognese and a sausage pizza. Everything was excellent except the aioli that came with the fries. I am not sure if it was bad or just a weird flavor but it was definitely not good. Other than that it was a great meal. Only thing I didn't appreciate was a split charge for the pasta...had I known they were going to charge to share we wouldn't have mentioned it...to me it's a bit tacky to charge to share food. Would like to do a redo of this place. Felt very upscale but still casual. Place was packed and our reservation was for later in the evening. We got there a few minutes early with 2 more people than we had made reservations for and the staff was very accommodating and sat us quickly. Brought our own wine and corkage was $15 a bottle. I shared a wedge salad and pizza with my wife. Wedge salad was very good. The burrata and basil pizza had great taste but the sauce was cold. Not sure if the burrata made it cold but would have been so much better if it was at least warm. Our friends ordered pizzas as well. Fig and prosciutto pizza and a sausage pizza. For me the sausage pizza was the best of all three. The fig on the one pizza was burnt and gave off a strong taste. Had high expectations for our 40th Anniversary dinner. Service was outstanding. Our server was great. The room was very nice with a window table. The ambient temperature outside was 72 but the A/C in the restaurant was blasting away and blowing on us even after we changed tables to get out of the "wind". You could hang meat in the place and watched a couple of people put on coats or sweaters. Our server asked the MGR to turn it off or down but we were told he wouldn't. We both told the manager we would have stayed for dessert and more drinks but we couldn't stand it anymore. Food was just meh. We shared roasted Brussel sprouts which were tasty.
