Decided to try this Indian restaurant due to recommendations that I saw. Unfortunately that was a mistake. The food was a major disappointment and probably the worst Indian food I've had. We ordered the butter chicken and beef skewers. Butter chicken did not taste like butter chicken. Beef skewers were not what we expected it to be and did not have flavor. Don't waste your time coming here; there are better options to choose from in Sac.

Delicious food from the chicken, Naan, and the Rice! Flavorful and quick Service, you get served immediately and sit to wait for your order to come to your table! Medium size location that can accommodate a party of six or more. They even chai on tap! A+ if you're willing to get out and enjoy a delicious meal that isn't your typical east asian meal!

We have been waiting to come to Shalimar for years, based on a friend's recommendation. He visits the SF location with his father and has for 2 years, I think! That says a lot! Oh, and they are Pakistani...so if they say it's authentic and delish, I'm a believer! We missed our change to visit the SF restaurant but caught this location on our way home. The dining room needed some attention, like a broken booth covered in plastic and several dirty tables, but we were hungry and still interested in trying the food we've heard so much about for so long. The wait was relatively short, and our friend showed us the hidden treasures - a sauce fridge and hot chai-style tea that was complimentary with your meal. Perfect on a cool early fall day! We ordered chicken kofta, 3 seekh kebab murghs, bunha gosht, a chicken biryani and 2 orders of garlic naan. Chicken kofta are lovely tender meatballs in sauce, the kebabs are formed spiced chicken cooked on skewers, bunha gosht is a spiced goat stew...all of these were new to us! Chicken birynai is chicken cooked on the bone cooked in savory, lemony rice, and of course, no meal is complete without garlic naan! Each dish was flavorful and hearty, and plenty to share for our party of 3, plus some leftover to bring home. Overall, it was quite a value, especially after spending 4 days dining out in the Bay Area! Our whole bill for 4 entrees and naan was $73 with tip!!! Bottom line, this is good, no-frills, homestyle Indian/Pakistani cooking. A hearty stick to your ribs meal but the dining room could definitely use some more frequent bussing and table washing.

I have frequented the SF and Dublin locations many times over the years when I have visited the Bay Area. This is my first time in Sacramento, and low and behold there is a location across the street from my hotel (and not too false from the airport). I wasn't sure if it was affiliated, a lot of South Asian restaurants use names interchangeably or with a slightly different spelling. The menu is the same. And the food tastes the same The food is great, and is as authentic as it gets.

Hands down my favorite spot for chicken tikka tandoori breast and leg. Freshly cooked to order, with a proper char and smokey flavor imparted on the meat. Too many imposters out here that oven cook their bbq, other than using a tandoor. The deception ! Beef seekh kabob is properly spiced and their lamb chops are great as well. Service is prompt and all the brothers that work there are kind and attentive. This review is strictly about the tandoori, I've had the salan (curry) plenty of times, all delicately cooked and enjoyable. Oddly enough their Daal masala is one of my favs, along with the saag gosht, ginger chicken, and oddly enough, brain masala.

I called the meat company that's delivers their chicken and they stated the chicken is not halal despite shalimar being advertised as that.

Food quality and service is good. It's definitely a bit pricey. But overall a good place to enjoy Pakistani food.

Friday night, buffet $17.95. Worth it! You get to sample chicken biryani, chicken curry, butte…read morechicken, tandoori chicken, chickpeas (not sure the name), pakora, spring roll samosas, plain rice, minty chutney, another sauce, fruits, pasta and more. Plus, chai masala to wash the food down. Not bad at all for the price. I If you're craving for several tasting of Indian cuisines, go for the buffet. Friendly service, good food.

Pieces of flavorless boneless chicken chunks thrown in with rice. It is not biryani. No chutney, no raita, no salan. The chicken was so dry, we couldn't eat it. The picture is what we threw away. It gave the entire house stomach issues. 0/5 stars -Go to Curry Leaves in Rocklin Chicken Tikka Masala was super sweet with old chicken. The chicken was mushy like a baked potato. It's tikka masala, not tikka gulab jamun. I honestly think they served the chicken from the day old or longer buffet. Never again, more stomach issues. 0/5 stars -Go to Shalimar in Natomas Aloo Palak was edible but little to no flavor. 2/5 stars -Go anywhere else Garlic Naan was not garlic. It was plain with butter. 1/5 stars. -Go anywhere else I hate to leave this review, but if you have eaten at a quality Indian restaurant, cafe, chaat house, or even hole in the wall you would realize the overwhelming disappointment in flavor, preparation, pricing and commitment to quality. The kicker, guy that handed me the food said we are making it all fresh for you right now...these were leftovers from their buffet I suspect. Sad I had to post, would love a quality Indian option in the area, you will have to drive elsewhere. I challenge those that love this place to measure it against Trader Joe's frozen entree options. ¼ of the price, more flavor and tastes fresher...which is crazy for me to say, I know, but try it. Extremely disappointed patron....oh and don't use the left door, you will walk right into their Open Hours sign face first...saw a man do it on his way out. I wish I saw Monica's review before mine, but Yelp decides to default to the best reviews first. Yikes!!

Shalimar in South Sac is a solid Pakistani restaurant…read more.. This place has been around for a while and is part of a small chain you will also find in the Bay Area and around Sacramento. Some locations have come and gone over the years, but this South Sac spot has stayed pretty consistent. The food is classic Pakistani style. Nothing fancy, just straightforward, well-executed dishes. I have had a lot of their menu and most of it hits. The kabobs are always a strong choice, the biryani is flavorful and satisfying, and the chicken tikka masala is decent. Not the best I have ever had, but definitely solid enough to enjoy. It is not mind blowing food, but it is reliable. You know what you are getting, and more often than not, it delivers. One thing I will say is that not all locations are the same. The Natomas one, for whatever reason, just does not hit the same. This South Sacramento location is the one to go to if you want a good experience. The vibe is pretty casual and no frills, which fits the food. Area is a bit rough but that's to be expected in this part of town. Overall, if you're craving solid Pakistani food in Sacramento, this is a dependable spot. Not elite, but very consistent and worth coming back to.

I ordered the Lamb Karahi with rice and garlic naan. It was delicious! But the best part about this restaurant is the people who work there. Two women were working together to make my food and take my order. They were very accommodating and kind. We had some language misunderstandings, but we ended up laughing in the end. I highly recommend this place for good food, fast & friendly service. Between 11AM and 3 PM on weekdays, they have an extensive buffet that looks fantastic. I will have to go back and check it out. I also ended up spilling an entire fountain drink in the front of my vehicle. After getting my food, I went to the minimart next-door and purchased an extra large Coke. Then proceeded to spill the entire thing inside the front of my vehicle. The gentleman, who I believe was the owner of the restaurant came out to help me when he saw what happened. Offered to give me a rag and water to clean things up. It was so kind and helpful and he invited me back another time to enjoy a buffet lunch on him.
