I woke up on Sunday and decided I needed a milkshake. It was the only thing in the world I wanted. I looked for places near me to get one, because I didn't wanna make it myself and this restaurant popped up. I have thought about trying it for sometime, and Sunday was the day. I got my person off of his computer game and we drove down to a decently busy drive through, so we decided to go inside as we wanted to review the menu anyways. The restaurant was clean and cute, almost set up like a little diner. THIS PLACE HAS EVERYTHING. or at least every fast food type item I wanted to see on the menu. We ordered chicken strip basket, a jalapeño burger, a chocolate shake and fried zucchini. There was at least 40 other things on the menu that I wanted to order, but figured this was a solid order for our first time. There was a little confusion with the cashier over the jalapeño burger, but I refuse to dock stars for a cashier who looked like they were still in training. The important part of the mix up, was the chef came out to clarify exactly what we wanted, so it was never really a problem to begin with. That chocolate shake has been living in my head rent free ever since, because it was perfect. The jalapeño burger (we ended up with 3 patties instead of two, per the menu confusion) basically brought tears to my partners eyes because it was so perfect. And they actually season their fries!!! I would give 6 stars if I could. Don't sleep on this gem. Whether you would call it a drive in or just fast food it is AWESOME. read more

We've had Burger Shack on our list for a while. We love stopping by old school drive in type burger shops for a no frills, just good food experience. We stopped in later in the evening for dinner and got the mushroom cheeseburger combo ($12.99), the Pastrami Cheeseburger combo ($14.99), cheese curds ($5.99) and fried okra ($5.99). They gave us our drinks right away and they have the nice crushed ice that's like tiny pebbles. It's always a treat when a spot has this ice because it's tiny and crunchy and not offered a lot. The food didn't take too long and came out on a tray for our dine in experience. There are plenty of booths here and during our visit there were a lot of other people enjoying meals in small groups and couples. The food was hot and fresh and the fries were nicely cooked crinkle cut fries. The fried okra as good, but needed a bit more seasoning or sauce to dip (we had ranch). The cheese curds were great, hot and the cheese was perfectly melty. My husband got the mushroom cheeseburger with just mushrooms, cheese, pickles and added bacon. He said it was a good burger and satisfied his craving, but isn't something he'd specifically seek out. I got the pastrami burger with everything on it and thought it was delicious, but the pastrami was a bit overcooked and dried out so the texture was a bit hard to bite through with the burger and I found myself eating the pastrami separately from the burger. What a solid, low key gem this place is! Was looking for a casual spot in the area and found this place. From the parking lot it doesn't look like much, even from the inside it doesn't look like much. But the food, the food was the star! I ordered the classic 1/4 lb cheeseburger meal, but instead of fries I got the zucchini. The burger was a good size, the toppings were fresh, the zucchini was very tasty that they didn't even really need the side of ranch that came with them. The burgers were HOT and juicy! Banana Shake is so thick and creamy. The customer service is always great and their fries and actually PERFECT. I some times get the curly fries too and they're just like Jack in Box style! Highly recommend the Chicken Sandwiches too! I purchased the Pastrami Combo with fries and upgraded large Pepsi. Substituted the fries for zucchini sticks- which I appreciated- and purchased another order of zucchin sticks and large Pepsi for someone else. That said, the pastrami sandwich was really good. I was hoping the fried zucchini sticks were made from scratch. Unfortunately, they weren't, but this was just a first time seeing and trying experience. I'm new to the area. The Pepsi was sparkling fresh. Plus+ Plus+ in my book! The restaurant was clean. The cashier was really super nice. I appreciated that. All in all the food was delicious. What might have made the visit better: Being acknowledge through a greeting when I walked up; I stood there waiting for about 3 minutes- ready to order. The owner was standing in front of the cash register looking at a piece of equipment (a headset), but I think this prevented the cashier from taking my order, until he finished what he was doing, which didn't have anything to do with her taking my order. I'm only mentioning it because I could tell the cashier wanted to take my order, but she wasn't able to. It's just a nice acknowledgement to patrons. I KNOW he didn't do this on purpose. He was just preoccupied. Also 1/4 of my pastrami sandwich bun had no pastrami. BUT having said that, they buttered and grilled the bread, and the flavor and crispiness was PERFECT! So it kind of made up for that. I'm thinking the empty 1/4 bun was probably just oversight. As you could tell the way they prepared the food, they do a really great job in flavor and also packaging. So I definitely think it was not intentional. I spent a total of approx $26 on my visit for a combo meal plus adding on an extra large Pepsi and zucchini stick. The zucchini stick at $5.99 is a bit pricey IMO for the amount in the bag. I think it's about 8 sticks the size of a mozzarella stick. The soda $3.45 was a good price for the sparkling fresh fizz! The combo meal price at $17 upgraded was decent. I'd like to do comparison experience for pastrami and zucchini. I'm new to the area. I appreciate they gave me 3 banana peppers with my pastrami. I'd like to come back and try their cheeseburgers next time with a large Pepsi. The Pepsi rocks! You should definitely try this place. We're currently taking some dance classes down the street and we wanted soemthing quick to take home and eat. We found this gem down the street and decided to try it out. I didn't have the highest expectations going in, I thought it was going to just be an okay fast food burger and I was blown away. We ordered at the drive thru and our food was all made to order, since it took a minute but we didn't mind. She got the avocado burger, and I got the pastrami burger. We also tried a normal fry and the curly fry. She said her burger was full of avocado and she really enjoyed how juicy it was, and mine was in the same boat, super full of pastrami and super juicy and flavorful. The regular fries were okay, but the curly fries were super good and crispy. Whenever we eventually return I'll definitely be getting the curly fries again. I upgraded my rating to a 5 star, because I came here last night to try the milkshake, and it was probably the best milk shake ive ever had. It was really creamy and they even give you the thick straw drink it with. I used to only come here to get my daughter a glacier and grilled cheese. I never ate here myself, but my friend was telling me how good the food was, so I came a month or so ago and got a burger, and it was really good. I was also surprised that they have a really good ranch, and a lot of sauces. This place is right around the corner from my house, so I will definitely be coming here more often to try some of the other menu items. read more

We found this place through Yelp reviews and decided to give it a shot, and we were pleasantly surprised! The ice cream dishes here are delicious and also insanely large portions. We ordered a cheeseburger, a grilled cheese, and some seasoned French fries. It was actually a really good meal at an even better value. I've been here a few times. I've seen them clean with the same towel in the back as the ones as the customer tables. Eww! The cooks don't change their gloves after touching raw meat. Or after helping do a drive thru transaction. The ladies who take orders are amazing!! The front of the house staff are truly polite and try their best under terrible leadership. This place is pretty good, little hidden spot. They have a baby burger thats like almost $4. Pretty damn good, Imagine an old school McDonalds double cheeseburger, but made with quality ingredients. I liked it more the first time tho, I feel like the bun was different on my return. The bun matters so much for me on a burger. Really good desserts. Just a small little hole in the wall burger joint. Good, food, good seating it is mostly empty but the seats werent uncomfortable. I got the mushroom burger, my husband got a double patty burger and we shared the fries it came with. First thing I noticed is the burgers are so big!!! Definitely match what you pay for. And they are so fresh and just flat out good!!! The fries are crinkle cut and have a good seasoning on it! Not overly salty and not under salted and seasoned. The sauces are .50 cents on the side and they are good and I don'tond paying that. The burger shack sauce is definitely in house made and it is like a delicious thousand island. It's rare for me to receive five star food when ordering from DoorDash, so this was a very delicious surprise! I can't speak about the actual restaurant and customer service, but from the reviews that doesn't seem to be an issue and looks clean. I love that it's halal! I will definitely try it in person in the near future. Okay... onto the amazing food! I placed my first order and got the double super bacon cheeseburger combo as well as a Banana milkshake. I was truly taken back at how juicy the burger was, packed with flavor and how big it was!! Definitely worth the price and it was easily shared between two. It is definitely giving my favoritelocal burger place a run for its money! Also, the perfect crisp to the fries! The milkshake was EXCELLENT and exactly was I have been searching for in the area instead of having to drive to Franklin blvd. My second order a few days later I ordered the shrimp basket and double super cheeseburger. I'm going to say it was just an "off day" because the burger definitely disappointed in flavor, the tomato was cut thick and not ripe at all. If you're looking for that old-school, nostalgic, hole-in-the-wall, no-frills burger joint, then "Burger Shack" will definitely have you covered. Located at 4545 Manzanita Ave. (adjacent to Winding Way) in the heart of Carmichael, this place has been in business since early-2023. But to many of those that remember (including myself), this is where a "Dairy Heaven" once stood for several years (from 2015-2022) and before that, a "Dairy Queen" was here for a couple decades. Since I love me a good old fashioned burger, I got to see what this place was all about; especially with a ton of 5-star Yelp reviews. The parking here is quite generous and I can guarantee that no matter what time you come here (they're open 7 days a week from 10am-10pm), you won't have any issues finding a spot. But with the business tucked very far back (think a good 20 yards from the street), it can be very difficult to spot it driving by. Once you step inside, it absolutely gives you that feel as if you've stepped into the late-70s/early-80s. From the floor tiles to the orange & yellow booth seating, and fake wooden tables, I don't think much has changed in many, many years. But now onto the food. This place has your typical burger menu items that you would expect; the standard (and loaded) cheeseburgers, chicken sandwiches, pastrami sandwiches, burritos, corn dogs, chicken strips, hot wings, and a ton of sides (fries, onion rings, nuggets, etc). They also carry a respectable amount of shakes, sundaes, slushies, and freezes. I am taking a wild guess that the previous owners of Dairy Heaven might have left quite a bit of the dessert equipment behind and still in good working order. But I could be wrong. I ended up coming here during the evening of Friday 8/25/2023 at around 7:45pm. And what really surprised me is that I was the ONLY customer inside this place. However, there were a few people ordering food in their drive-thru. After reviewing the entire menu, I finally settled with the "Deluxe Burger Combo". This consisted of 1/4lb. all beef patty, lettuce, red onions, and mayonnaise as well as a side of Krinkle cut fries and a medium soda. I do have to say that the service here was absolutely wonderful as the lady that took more order was super nice. Service was quick as well as my burger was piping hot and ready in just 5 short minutes. I've got to say that everything was well put together and quite delicious. However, they put in a TON of red onions! Nothing wrong with that but I had to remove most of them just so that my taste buds aren't overpowered with onion breath. Everything else was good and the burger was not greasy at all. The fries were crispy yet soft on the inside. I do have to say that this place was clean to a tee as the staff took good pride in assuring excellent sanitary conditions. I just hope this place stays around for awhile since the employees were very nice and accommodating. Is it the best burger I've ever had? Not by any means. But it was above average and is definitely a step up from what you'd find at a typical fast food place. With their extensive menu, generous hours, and overall service, I am giving "Burger Shack" in Carmichael an above average four-star Yelp rating. read more

We went there on a whim after doing some Christmas shopping and we're very pleasantly surprised. I had never heard of it just drove by and saw the sign and stopped in on our way back from shopping. Sunday afternoon - no customers. Nobody in eyesight behind the counter / kitchen. Waited a bit and someone finally came out. I should've left before then. The place didn't feel clean. But it had such good reviews and people on FB were saying it was good so I stayed. I'm convinced all the good reviews were from people they know. Ordered a bacon cheeseburger. There was a lot of bacon but it was limp and soggy and had no taste which was weird. The burger also had no flavor. All a huge disappointment. Fries are crinkle cut. Nothing fresh about them.
