They only open for dinner which kinda requires you to make reservation for groups. We made reservations for 5pm their opening time on Friday. It was full, but there were tables for 2 available. So definitely make a reservation if you would like to visit with 3 or more guests or you might have a wait as the restaurant is small. The service was amazing. But the food was not up to my expectations. It was good but not what I expected for the small share size dishes that you get for the price. Had dinner here this week with a good friend who loves a good Korean joint as much as I do. I was a bit biased against this one, given the cautionary language that popped up into my ressie confirmation text message. It notifies you that you are given an allotment of an hour and 45 mins for dining, and a 15 minute grace period for checking in (something that many trendy restaurants have started embracing recently, and which, I find annoying). So as luck would have it, my friend's train decided not to run, and she ended up arriving super late. I was already seated with a cocktail in hand (the gin and Korean pear one, which somehow reminded me of a Manhattan type of cocktail for some reason). The restaurant did not stress me out about her lateness, which I appreciated. We were advised to order 2 dishes per person, so we ordered the Japchae (with lots of crunchy wood ear mushrooms, such a treat), The lotus root salad, the fish stew, and fried squid and monkfish. It was ample food, and we had enough leftovers to take home. The complimentary Kimchi "salad" was phenomenal and so addictive that we got 3 plates worth. We really enjoyed all of the dishes, even the lotus root salad, which some critics have complained about for its heavy dressing. The flavors in all plates were complex, the textures and seasoning, perfect. I especially loved the lightness of the fish stew, with the herbal notes of what I believe were baby chrysanthemum greens, its broth so full of shellfish flavor. We were not rushed, and service was perfectly attentive. Sometimes, you brace yourself for a super- hyped up restaurant that ends up being mediocre. Literally one of the best meals I've had since I don't know when. Every dish was so good. We came around 7p on a Thursday with no reservation and surprisingly had no wait! My friend recommend this place and we got an assortment of her favorites. We ordered the fried soft shell crab, dolsot al bap, scallop diy gimbap, seafood butter-gui, and the seafood japchae to share for 3 and it was a good amount. Every dish was very flavorful and unique. I was really surprised with how much I liked everything and it was really hard for me to compare. The dolsot al bap was served in a hot stone, so you get a nice texture on the rice. Mixed with the cream, it was amazing. The seafood japchae was unique and surprisingly buttery. I'd usually think of japchae as more lighter dish, but this was a lot more heavy and savory. Everything else was what you'd expect, but more. We also got the corn creme brulee for desert and it was delicious. Don't get scared by the corn; it's not overwhelmingly corn and still a sweet treat! I got a last minute reservation for four on a Monday at around 7ish. The place was small and cozy with blaring music. I can't quite say the music was a plus as I could not even recall what type of music was playing. I just remember it being so loud for no good reason. Definitely not a good place for an intimate dinner or for dates. Thankfully, the food and the service were fantastic. We loved the soy braised lotus root salad, the octopus sook-hoe, and the yook hoe. The serving portions were much smaller than the photos let you believe, but the flavors were so on point that I could forgive the smaller portion sizes. The seafood pancake was wetter/not as crispy as I would like. Since we were so full from all that we ordered, I think we would skip this next time. The fried chicken and the soft shell crabs were expertly fried with a different type of flour given I was not used to the texture. They were both favorites. The seafood jap chae had good flavors, but the noodles congealed so I would skip this too. The dolsot al bap with uni was so unique and so comforting while the beef su-yuk was just ok. Even though we were god awfully full, we decided to get the corn creme brulee, which really ended our dinner on a super high note. I would come back for the yook hoe, the fried soft shell crabs, the dolsot al bap and the corn creme brulee. Absolutely loved the warm feel of the decor and place. Seating is limited and a little tight, but it's very cozy and homey inside. Scallop gimbap was something unique to try but the pieces were sliced veryyyyy thin and also I didn't feel like they had a distinct taste, so I probably wouldn't get it again. I did quite like the chungyang mayo that it came with though. Seafood pancake was a classic, and nicely crispy, with average amount of seafood. Duck bulgogi was a little on the greasy side and not the texture I was expecting (it didn't have the roast duck taste but maybe that was an unjustified assumption on my part - it was like pork or beef, but slightly more chewy). Star of the show was dolsot albap. The flavor was AMAZING with lots of flavor profiles and a rich seafood taste. And the bonus was the rice getting beautifully crispy! Next time though I would not add on uni - I thought it would be incorporated into the dish but it was just put on another plate on the side for you, and it also just was mid lol. We started out with the scallops appetizer (which were very thinly sliced scallops that you eat with their seaweed--not really worth the price imo), then had their famous bibimbap (this was creamy and delicious--worth it!), fried chicken with curry powder (also great), and seafood pajeon (quite small, next time I would want to try something else). The scallop was super fresh and it came with apple kimchi. We also got the Yook-Hwe which is their version of the beef tartare ($18), I'm usually not a big fan of beef tartare but this was surprisingly super good. The Dolsot Al Bap ($19) was super creamy but I probably wouldnt get it again. The Duck Bulgogi ($32) was a bit spicy. This didn't stand out as much as the others. There are many Korean restaurants in NYC, and @ariarinyc is such a great addition that brings authentic modern Busan cuisine to the table. Busan is known for its seafood, and of course there's a variety of options available there. The dolsot al-bap (hot stone bibimbap with fish roe and sea urchin cream) is a must get. It doesn't taste as thick as it appears, but brings a delicate ocean-y touch to this popular Korean dish. The other shared dishes such as the yook-hoe (beef tartare) and the fried squid are also delicious, but the spicy fish stew is what's unforgettable for me. Definitely a solid 4/5 stars for the food! It's pretty small inside, and they have an outdoor dining enclosed space too that's where the actual street/parking is. That setup kinda sucks for the waiters though because they have to walk through everyone in the streets to get to the outdoor dining space. But service was seriously impeccable - the staff are stationed, it seems, like every corner so they're always there if you need anything. We got our waters poured for us almost every time we drank, we had plates cleared immediately to make space for the next ones (but they left the sauces for us), and they even helped me wiped my table after a few dishes as they noticed I was taking a lot of pictures. In terms of food, it did live up to the hype for the most part, but I'd say that the one dish that got the most hype turned out to be the most underwhelming one. Yep, that's the dolsot al-bap, which is the fish roe/sea urchin cream that gets mixed into the rice, tableside. I'll get to that later. Let's start with the best: Fried Soft Shell Crab $18: it's two crabs cut into halves, so four pieces. I'm used to, and love, the salt and pepper soft shell crabs at Chinese restaurants and order it all the time. But Ariari really wowed me with how they did this! It's so simple, but the batter is insanely crispy and light, and it all holds together. Fresh crab, seasoned well, pairs deliciously with the aioli that they serve this with. I just loveee the coating of this. It does get greasy, so one or two pieces per person is more than enough. The waiter was just as shocked when I said that this was my favorite dish of the night haha. I initially wasn't even about to order this dish as I had my eyes set on the lamb stuffed peppers, but they didn't have that available that night so the crab was a replacement. DEF meant to be. Order this! Yook Hoe $15: this is the beef tartare with baby octopus. This dish has the most flavor and was soo creamy. A must order again for me if I come back with friends. The texture of the octopus was especially good, I felt like they gave even more octopus than beef. Doesn't matter, the combination of the meat, seafood, and fried onions was perfect. Scallop DIY Gimbap: While the scallop was fresh and everything went well together, I think this was definitely quite pricey for the portion. Beautiful presentation, tastes good, but the scallop was sliced so thinly that it was probably just one or two whole scallops at most put together. I made hand rolls out of this, but I also added the yook hoe to make the rolls bigger/packed. This one I would say is a bit hard to share, unless you don't mind each roll only have a tiny sliver of scallop. I don't think this is really worth it exactly, it wouldn't even cost as much at an omakase. Still delish, nonetheless. Squid and Pork: actually very generous with the pork here! Flavorful, sweet, a bit spicy. It's good, just not unique Dolsot Al-Bap $19: here comes the dish that I've been seeing all the videos about! Unfortunately, I hyped myself too much? I was expecting something with more umami and the rice to be a lot creamier. But it was on the drier side for a rice dish. It's a quaint shop from the outside that I almost walked by despite following directions, but it's packed with flavor. For three people, we ordered: -Kimchi (complimentary): Excellent. Great balance, not too acidic. -Seafood Butter-Gui (5/5): An interesting Mediterranean feeling dish with the pita, but it blends the butter with delicious seafood and the perfect accompaniments to balance out each bite. -Seafood Pancake (5/5): They manage to get squid or shrimp or mussels into each bite of the pancake. Stellar texture. Delicious balance with the chive and basil. -Fried Soft Shell Crab (6/5): Holy smokes. Must order. Not sure how they fry this but it is excellently crispy and still fresh tasting at the same time. -Fried Chicken (4.5/5): I give this a good rating for excellent portions. It's fried in a similar way as the soft shell crab. I think it was a bit weaker in texture but overall, still very good. -Duck Bulgogi (4/5): While this was the weakest dish in my opinion, the duck was still very tender and flavorful. I think it should have been served with some rice or something other than beansprouts. -Spicy Fish Stew (4/5): Went very well with rice, very tender fish and clams but not enough to share with 3 people. -Seafood Japchae (5/5): The heck did they do to make this Japchae so good? The octopus perfectly balanced the Japchae texture and it's a great level of spice. The quality of seafood was overall excellent. I was really excited to check out Ariari after hearing a lot of hype about it. I went with my cousin recently and both of us thought that it was only OK. This is coming from two Korean Americans. The food here is supposed to be a nod to Busan, the second largest city of Korea, which is especially known for fresh seafood. Therefore, the menu is appropriately heavily seafood focused. We tried the Mak-hoe, fried soft-shell crab, duck bulgogi, and dolsot al-bap. The mak-hoe is thinly sliced raw fish served with the standard accompaniments including lettuce wraps and ssam-jang. This was overall a nice start to the meal. They gave us two types of fish and both were really fresh, although at nearly $30 it was definitely overpriced. The fried soft-shell crab batter was way too thick and greasy. I could barely taste the crab since all I got was oil. The duck bulgogi tasted good but was texturally off. The beauty of duck is in the crispy skin and this failed on that account. The most popular item seems to be the dolsot al-bap but my cousin and I both thought that this looked better than it tasted. It was fine; however, the flavor was mostly one-note and overall lacked seasoning. We spent $17 to add-on fresh uni and even the uni was not able to really elevate the dish. One of my new favorite Korean restaurant in NYC! There's been a influx of elevated Korean restaurants in the city recently, but ARIARI ranks high with its different menu and great service. Will definitely be back. Honestly everything was a 5/5 here (even the starter salad lol) so I won't individually rate them. The standouts for me were the Soy Braised Lotus Root Salad and the Fried Soft Shell Crab. The salad had the most amazing dressing and I loved the contrast of different textures from all the ingredients. The crab was so extremely crispy, but not oily from the frying at all. Not a very strong seafood flavor which I liked. The Lamb Stuffed Fried Pepper, Beef Tartare, and Bulgogi were great as well. My GF and I were somehow able to walk in at around 5:30PM and grab a seat. (we were told the wait was going to be 2 hours but a seat somehow opened up last minute) The food (mostly seafood based) was really authentic and fresh; my favorite was the Scallop DIY Rolls. The portions were on the smaller side; I'd say it's more ideal to share multiple dishes as each one was unique in it's own right. The food pays homage to Busan, and according to my GF it tasted quite authentic. The drinks we got were also really good! The place is tapa style ish and they actually recommend a certain number of dishes to order when you get there based on how large your group size is. We were quickly seated and the staff was extremely nice and friendly. The place itself is actually pretty small so everyone is pretty close together in terms of tables. We decided to get: -Octopus Sook-Hoe: Pretty flavorful and the octopus was pretty tender but not my favorite dish here. -Fried Soft-shell Crab: Very crispy and flavorful; I really liked this dish but my friend found it a bit too oily for her liking. -Seafood Pancake: Also crispy and flavorful. Definitely my favorite appetizer. -Dolsot Al-Bap: One of the stars of the dinner - this was so creamy and tasty. A take on Busan dining in the East Village, Ariari has been hyped since it opened and for good reason. All of the dishes we tried were good. The scallop DIY gimbap was super fresh. The scallops were cut thinly, but you could still taste the flavor of the scallop with each bite. There was the softness of the scallop and crispiness of the rice with each bite. Loved the apple kimchi pairing. Jang-eo was perfectly crispy, and the Korean raspberry sauce made it tart and sweet. Octopus sook-hoe was tender, and the perilla seaweed sauce was umami. Dolsot al-bap was the most underwhelming. I couldn't really taste the uni, but it was still good. Tried the Busan soju, and it was smooth. Smoother than the soju that you can typically get at the grocery stores. An amazing experience. The staff are super friendly and attentive. Came by so many times to refill our waters. I was at this popular Korean restaurant with a bunch of others and as per many of my recent reviews several months ago as I have a backlog. The food here is based on Busan which is unique to most Korean spots in the city and it has a nice atmosphere though it's a bit loud as the place is tiny. As it is Busan related, there's a whole lot of fish on this menu but we got a mix. I found the eel very disappointing but mostly other dishes were pretty good even if they were a bit pricey. To drink I had the Maesil ($14) which is with Seoul Night (or rather The Han Seoul Night Plum Soju) Green Plum (said maesil,) Suze (a French bitter apertif,) Peach, and Lemon. The drink came humorously topped with a piece of gummy peach candy. I found it pretty sweet and I couldn't taste the alcohol and it was alright though I would likely get a different cocktail next time. We first got the Scallop DIY Gimbap ($26) with scallops, squid jeotgal, scallion mayo, apple kimchi, and gim. I couldn't have the squid of course but the scallops alone with the mixture and gim/seaweed was tasty. The jeotgal I presume would have added a spicy salty flavor. It was pretty good though I guess my only complaint would be that the scallop a bit too thinly sliced so it lacked texture which is surprising as usually hwe is cut into thicker pieces for chewiness in Korean spots. The Lamb Stuffed Fried Pepper ($14) with Korean green pepper and cumin perilla yogurt was pretty tasty. The texture of the batter was unique and I'm curious if it was some type of rice flour. This was a bit oily but well flavored and the yogurt definitely helped reduce the oiliness. Also fried with the same unique batter was the Fried Soft-Shell Crab ($18) with scallion yuja aioli, and lime zest. As per before, it was a tad oily though less so than the pepper and again the aioli helped with that. Very tasty albeit a small bite. My favorite bite of the night was the Dolsot Al-Bap ($19 or more with uni) consisting of a hot stone bibimbap with medley of fish roe, poached egg, and sea urchin cream which is also mixed at the table. The fish roe which definitely included flying fish and tobiko among others popped in the mouth and the rich cream worked well with it even if it didn't taste much of uni/sea urchin. It was a tad salty but delicious and I would order that alone as a very filling main again. As this was several months ago, their Bulgogi (unknown price but presumably $26-$28) back then was more traditional with char-broiled thinly sliced ribeye, king oyster mushroom, and sesame oil. You can find this dish in many other Korean spots and outside of it being a bit less sweet and the beef being very tender, it was pretty standard. It's more uniquely made with duck now and I would try that. Unfortunately our main dish was the Glazed Jang-eo ($25) with fried sea eel and eggplant tossed with Korean raspberry sauce. I love eel in basically all of it's varieties and I know that Busan is pretty famous for eel. The sauce was cloyingly sweet and I honestly wouldn't be surprised if it contained bokbunja/Korean raspberry liqueur from how sweet it was. It reminded me of General Tso's which isn't a good thing and I couldn't taste the eel. I honestly don't get how anyone likes this unless it's usually not that sweet. The sauce should honestly be on the side as they're good enough at frying but I guess it's prepared this way because it looks nicer. I think a Gochujang based (something similar to Ojingeo bokkeum) would be better. It's hard for me to rate this place. Our main dish was well terrible but the rest of food was decent. So excited to finally try Ariari! While there's a lot of Korean food in NYC, Ariari is unique because of it's Busan style food. We ordered the Scallop DIY Gimbap, Salmon Hoe Gooksu, Dolsot Al-Bap (added uni), Steamed Monkfish, and Hap-Cheon Pork Soup. Everything was pretty tasty! My favorite was definitely the Salmon Hoe Gooksu - the flavor of the sauce was delicious and there were a lot of long pieces of salmon. Like some reviews said, the scallop was pretty thin on the DIY gimbap dish, but I think it was still good and a nice lil experience to make the gimbap. For the dolsot al-bap, I would recommend not adding on the uni - I think it already has good sea urchin flavor and they just give it to you on the side rather than being on top of or part of the dish, so I don't think it was worth it in my opinion! For dessert we got both the Omija Bingsoo and the Corn Creme Brûlée. I think it was great to get both and split because they had pretty different flavor profiles. The Bingsoo was super nice, refreshing, and tart, while the Creme brûlée was sweeter and had a nice mild corn flavor. Definitely recommend coming by if you get a chance! It is on the expensive side so I probably won't be coming frequently but a good place to take friends or family visiting or if you want to treat yourself! read more

TLDR: A fun experience for korean cuisine with an emphasis on seafood. We started with a few drinks and definitely had higher expectations for them based on the description. They felt unblended and too strong. The uni rice is the popular dish and though the presentation was good, the dish itself lacked the umami flavor I was looking for and it got dry fairly quickly. The seafood pancake was my favorite savory item and paired with the sauce was very good. The beef tartare is definitely to be shared as its a super rich flavor. Such unique dishes and efficient dining experience! I'm a huge lover of Korean food but these dishes are unlike any found in my typical home style or kbbq joints. My boyfriend and I had a reservation for prime time Friday night and the place was packed, so I highly recommend having a reservation to dine here. Everything we got was absolutely delicious; however, the must gets are the scallops DIY and Dolsot Al-Bap - I will literally come back just for these two any day. The eel was perfectly crispy and sweet and paired really well with the dolsot. They mix it at the table for you and recommend you enjoy it immediately, we basically inhaled it. Highly suggest setting a resy notification if you're not a fan of late night dinners. The whole space isn't too big, but it looks like they're mostly saved for reservations because there were quite a few empty tables when we arrived at 7:45p on a Friday. I'd also recommend going with a group of ~4 to maximize the sharing. We got all the recommendations from our friend plus a few others and while some dishes were smaller than others, 5 dishes + dessert was a good amount. Faves: - pork & fried squid stir fry: super crispy squid and thinly sliced pork in a spicy sauce. YUM! - uni al bap: interesting souffle presentation and mixed table side. Tried a bunch of dishes here and it was super yummy. I would say that the portions are on the smaller end so I suggest getting some dishes to share for the table. The food was very flavorful.
