Already into icing protocol to reduce swelling

My 8 year old Golden Retriever came up lane after playing with some other dogs on Memorial Day afternoon. By 9 pm she still couldn't put any weight on the leg and so I Googled emergency vets. Amazingly ARISE is a true emergency vet and is open 24 hours a day even on holidays. I ALSO LIKE THE FACT THAT THEY HAVE ORTHOPEDIC SURGICAL SPECIALTY THERE. I SUSPECTED MY GIRL HAD TORN HER LEFT CRUCIATE LIGAMENT BECAUSE THREE YEARS AGO SHE HAD TORN THE RIGHT ONE IN A WORK ACCIDENT. THE SYMPTOMS LOOKED VERY MUCH THE SAME. ALSO ARISE WAS ONLY 20 MINUTES FROM MY HOUSE IN QUEEN CREEK. When I arrived at the facility, a young lady from the front desk came and open the door for me and asked how she could help. I briefly explained what was going on and she asked me if I needed help getting my dog into the lobby when I told her I did She arranged for veterinary staff to get a gurney out to my car and help lift my girl out and bring her back into the examination room. There were several other people waiting at this late hour in the emergency room lobby and only one attending that on staff for the night so it took about three hours before my girl was seen. But still, I was very grateful. About 1 AM the vet came out, sat down with me and explained what she was thinking which matched my worst case scenario. The staff made me a surgical consult appointment in the morning for 10 AM and sent me home with some pain meds. I came in in the morning for the 10 AM appointment and ended up meeting the orthopedic surgeon who I liked very much. She's done this procedure many times and recommended We put my girl on the calendar for the surgery the very next morning with a 7:30 am drop off . I walked out of there this morning very impressed by all the staff again as well as the surgeon and I'm confident things will go as well as they can tomorrow. I'm very grateful for how I was treated. Have to add post-surgical compliment. Got calls from staff as she went under anesthesia, and then into actual surgical procedure. Couple hours later, call from surgeon explaining how everything worked and setting up discharge session. Love they keep the patient overnight to stabilize on pain management. Next morning went over to get her and spent about 45 minutes with nurse and surgeon going through post/surgical care, answering ALL my questions and they even helped me get her in my car. Really an all around excellent standard of care. Now it's in my hands to manage her recovery.

Our pup was sick, found out she had a fever 105 degree In bad shape needed over night W/ meds Next day we brought her home She's getting better each day The staff was excellent in every way She was their #1 patient at that time & next day

    inside waiting room

The staff were amazing! They were very attentive to my nervous black lab that had to stay overnight. They called me with updates on her even at night which I thought was very reassuring since she was there overnight & has separation anxiety. Staff did an excellent job informing me on what was going on with my pet & how they were going to treat her since she ingested something she wasn't supposed to. I hope I don't have to come back, but if I did I would be more than happy to! :)

    Waiting

They nice ya, but almost every other dog was seen before ours. She had pulled both of her hips and almost every dog has been seen before her, I wish they just give her pain medicine for now but we have been here for about 4 hours!?

Our Shih-Tzu took a flying leap as though she had wings and broke her leg. Our whole experience from the front desk through the technicians and medical team was very friendly, professional, and assuring. And a big shout out to Dr. Bates for the amazing surgery she did on Lulu's ankle & paw

Note the large elbow swelling which he ordered Amantadine an antiviral for his pain and swelling

$245 visit and the valley fever specialist Dr Clark did not assess my dog, do labs, or lay a finger on him and sent us home with an antiviral rx to control his pain and a sedative for him to take when he comes back for a visit because he growled out of fear at the visit. An improvement would be a professional exam, with labs, X-rays and experience in handling animals that may bark or growl (animal bedside manner and skill).

Do not go there. Brought a puppy into the emergency room. Puppy had fever and elevated heart rate. Vet made it seem like he was in distress and said that she thinks he has distemper. Was offered 3 choices. 1st 24 hour to stay which was 2800, 2nd 12 hour stay 2100, 3rd option was to put puppy down and send body to a lab for testing. I called my brother and he said what is the discharge option. They gave the puppy fluids and sent me on my way for 720. Woke up at 3 am and puppy was completely back to normal. Thank goodness I didn't put him down. Took 3 days to get results and the distemper test was negative. I paid $720 for nothing. And was so scared for 3 days that my 10 dogs had distemper. Do not go there. Only good thing is the front desk had good customer service. I did not refuse diagnostics by the way. The vet said he most likely had distemper. Her advice was to euthanize him. Thank goodness I didn't follow her recommendation. I'm so thankful I asked my brother what to do. He was the one that told me to wait for results and do outpatient treatment first. I really hope that this situation is being shared so that the staff can learn from Rollo's experience. I have shared my experience with the valley and all my doggie clients will be aware of what happened. Update 7/15/24 Rollo is doing well. He is growing and thriving with siblings.

We waited hours before anyone came in to speak with us, and eventually we were sent home and told we would be called when his procedure was complete. We later learned Gunner's injury was so severe that he had to have his toe amputated. After another couple of hours, we were called to pick him up. When they brought him out, his foot was completely bloody and dripping with no bandage or covering. Blood was getting all over the lobby, our vehicle, and Gunner. I asked if it could at least be covered, but was told they didn't want to because of swelling. I understand swelling is a concern, but after the traumatic night we had just experienced, seeing our dog carried out looking like he had just come from a freaking war was heartbreaking. We paid $2,000 for his care. I decided to reserve judgment and see if they would at least call the next day to check on him. They never did. In all my years of having dogs, I have never had a veterinary office fail to follow up after a procedure--even after routine vaccinations. After an emergency surgery and amputation, I expected at least a simple phone call. Thankfully, Gunner is doing well and recovering at home. But I am 150% disappointed with the lack of communication, compassion, and follow-up. If this hadn't been an emergency, I would have driven the extra five minutes to another clinic. **UPDATE -- Two Weeks Later** I wanted to update my original review because there have been some significant developments since I first shared our experience. The day after I posted my original negative review, I was only then contacted by the clinic to check on how Gunner was doing. Unfortunately, two weeks after Gunner's toe amputation, he developed postoperative complications that required another emergency veterinary visit at a different clinic. We ultimately spent more than $500 at that clinic for treatment, including additional medications, bandaging, and follow-up care. This brought our total expenses related to this ordeal to more than $2,400. After I requested reimbursement for the additional emergency care, I was contacted by management. During our conversation, she told me that she had reviewed the footage of Gunner being brought out to us after his surgery and agreed that the situation should have been handled differently. She acknowledged that we should have been taken into a room, that we should have been given better postoperative instructions, and that more time should have been spent with us rather than sending our still half-sedated dog out into the lobby with a bleeding surgical site. She also told me that, as a result, the clinic had changed its policy and would now begin calling emergency patients the following day rather than waiting two days to check on them\. I appreciate that the clinic recognized these issues and made changes. However, despite acknowledging that Gunner's discharge and postoperative care should have been handled differently, management offered to reimburse us only $200 of the additional veterinary expenses we incurred. I understand that complications can happen, and I have never claimed that the infection was definitively caused by the original surgery. My concern has always been the lack of appropriate postoperative care and followup after an amputation, and the fact that another veterinarian was concerned enough about Gunner's surgical site to provide additional treatment and followup that should have been addressed from the beginning. At this point, I am extremely disappointed with how this entire situation has been handled. We trusted this clinic with our dog's care during a terrifying emergency, spent more than $2,400 dealing with the injury and subsequent complications, and were ultimately left feeling that both Gunner and our family deserved better. I will not be returning to Gilbert Queen Creek Emergency Veterinary, and based on our experience, I cannot recommend this clinic to other pet owners.

I was asked to authorize or decline CPR and an intensive care evaluation. We authorized the evaluation but not CPR. A little while later the vet came to let us know what the evaluation showed and she was so thorough and kind, explained the possible causes of seizures and potential treatment plans. They kept our pup overnight to monitor for more seizures, give her IV fluids, etc. We brought her home today. I have a medical background and I found the care was excellent, appropriate and the communication was great. I received 3 calls from the various vets on duty and each time they were informative and kind. My regular vet had already been notified within about 12 hours of admission and they called to check on us. The only hesitation of have is the cost of services. It seems very expensive. Medication that they provided when we took the pup home cost $62.38 for 30 pills. The price for 120 tabs from Chewy is $25.08. I understand the cost of intensive/ER services is exorbitant in general but $2000 for a 24 hour visit is something that many people can not afford.
