In our case, we had pages of silver pieces, most of which needed to be valued for insurance purposes in the late 80s. Fair job, fair price. With insurance, updates are required periodically. By 2007, we phoned JKS to find out whether anything had changed, having observed that the price of silver had gone from three dollars to thirty-five dollars an ounce in that twenty year stretch. Next thing we know, I agreed to update. I left for an appointment and my wife stayed for the balance of the account. She was asked to pay by check, $900. and she did. When we got the report later, all the values were the same. The catch occurred even later when we discovered that a pair of candlesticks were wrongly described and valued. The plated silver holders for $800 were really Georgian 1831 holders valued at $4000.00. No consideration, no apology. Who is this person? Why did he not just say, you know... prices are the same and I find no reason to change much. I could verify that you have these items and use the same reviews for you. Not twice making a ridiculous error about the candlesticks and then overcharging. Beware!! Send us a check for overcharging us Mr. JKS, I was just going through old papers and saw that invoice and figured... why let others get soaked.

M.H.R taught the…read moreclass and I must say, this was the most amazing experience I've ever had in a teaching environment. From the very start, we were welcomed into the bindery by M.H.R and Joel. We knew we would be spending the day here, so we brought our own snacks and drinks. The bindery studio is small, organized and compact. It has a wonderful vibe - you know good work is being done here. We were immediately at ease. M.H.R was ready for us - all of our materials were on the table. Joel left for the afternoon to run errands, leaving us to our devices and that's when the learning began. Before getting started, we were walked through a review of different types of bindings. M.H.R wanted to ensure that our expectations were level and we both understood what we would be creating in this experience - a great way to start. M.H.R is incredibly wise and detailed in their craft. No question is unanswered, no curiosity left unexplained. As an amateur bookbinder, I thought I had the "basics" down, but I was wrong! I quickly understood that I had room to improve on even the smallest techniques. Within the first hour, I knew that this class was worth every hour and penny spent. Over the next two weekends (2 days, 14 hours), we created the most beautiful case bound books. The first day is all about the text block - folding, sewing, gluing, etc. The second day was the case - cutting boards, measuring spine, adhering the bookcloth and then applying gold tooling using the Quickprint machine. M.H.R's instruction is hands-on. We're first shown the technique and then asked to perform it on our own books. Throughout, M.H.R was with us checking on the progress, answering questions and challenging us to try again in order to improve on our technique. When the whole project came to an end, I was sad to learn that my book would need to stay in the press overnight. Fear not - M.H.R packaged the book wonderfully and mailed it to me the very next day (I live a fair distance from Seattle) along with a note via email thanking us for spending time in their bindery. This was a fascinating opportunity that I would do a thousand times over. I hope M.H.R decides to teach more advanced bindings at some point - I'll be the first return customer! Some notes: Joel was there later in the afternoons, but was quietly working on projects while listening to some pretty smooth tunes on the radio. He was very kind and I got a 60s/70s vibe from him. The studio has various animal skins (goat, calf, python, to name a few) hanging here and there. We found it added to the character and didn't bother us at all, but I'm sure some folks might take offense so I figured I'd tell you. There are plenty of places nearby to have a snack break or eat dinner. The bindery is focused on binding, not eating, so don't expect to find a vending machine ;) The phone would ring after 5pm while we were there and it would go to voicemail as this was after hours. They were very polite the one time I heard them answer the phone. I encourage you to check this place out, it's a unique, rare gem with a timeless feel in an age where everything is manufactured.

It…read moredetails how Keenan Valdes, the owner of Sachi Fine Jewelry, who presented himself as a capable jewelry designer, took advantage of a customer at every turn, failing to provide any documents, receipts, invoices, or certifications, and breaking every promise made in their verbal agreement. Nearly four years ago, in the spring of 2021, I entered Keenan's store to inquire about designing a ring with a yellow sapphire. I had narrowly survived a life-threatening incident while traveling and was struggling with my health, hoping for a miracle to aid my recovery so I could care for my daughter. A friend's guru, an enlightened yogi known for his expertise in stone healing, recommended that I get a yellow sapphire ring and wear it constantly. I showed Keenan a photo of the design I wanted, stated a budget of $5,000, and requested a stone size of 2-3 carats. Keenan quoted a price of $2,000-$2,500 for the ring, based on the weight of the metal. He was exceedingly charming, assuring me that I was in the right place and that he had a dealer who could get the stone at the best price. When I asked about a down payment, he said I would pay the full amount upon completion if I was satisfied, and that the ring would be ready in six months. Based on consultations with other jewelry designers, I knew that 1-carat should cost around $750, so I believed the total cost would be under $5,000. However, with each meeting, the design and price drifted further from the original plan. Keenan ordered a much larger stone, 4.15 carats, claiming it was a rare find that would make my ring unique and valuable over time making it a family treasure passing through generations. His enthusiasm convinced me to agree, and he told me that I needed to pay $7,777 in cash for the stone within 30 days. I sold my company's stock to make the payment, believing I would receive the ring in six months and that Keenan didn't profit from the stone. (Only 2 weeks ago by pure incident I learned that he made 300% markup on that stone.) Despite the lack of paperwork and the higher cost, I was captivated by his stories and trusted him completely. As time went on, Keenan's behavior became more manipulative. He claimed the stone was too high-profile for the design I wanted but assured me he could create any design. I proposed a few more designs but none of the designs I suggested worked for such high profile stone, and he had no interesting creative ideas of his own. In February 2022, he tried to sell me a premade ring that was completely unsuitable. Realizing I had made a mistake in trusting him, I felt trapped because I had already paid $8K for the stone. The ring was supposed to be ready in August 2022, but Keenan prioritized other orders and suggested I take my business elsewhere. When I asked if he would buy back the stone, he refused, claiming the stone and ring were separate transactions. It was another lie to keep my money. Along the way he pressured me into adding diamonds and making design adjustments to fit those, so the prototype I finally saw in April 2024 was far from what I had envisioned. Finally, after a long wait the ring in platinum was ready on December 14th, 2024. I paid $2,222 in cash and picked up the ring, but upon closer inspection, I found numerous flaws. The stone was set incorrectly (wrong angle) and too high, and the band was twisted in an awkward way. The ring caused discomfort (made my finger to swallow). It was poorly designed, bulky, unstable, and absolutely unwearable. Feeling betrayed and emotionally drained, I requested a refund, but Keenan refused. He lied about taking the money to the bank and paying for materials but after pressuring him to stick to the contract agreement he finally returned the same bills I had given him. He suggested creating a new design, but I had lost all trust in him. When I asked if he wanted to keep the ring setting to sell in his store, he said it was only good for melting down. This meant he knew the ring was so poorly designed that it couldn't be sold, yet he still wanted me to pay for it in the first place. Throughout this ordeal, I received no documentation, invoices, or certifications (even though I requested those). I have no proof of the materials used, their weight, or the authenticity of the stone. After nearly four years, countless appointments, and significant financial loss, I decided to seek legal action. Keenan's refusal to take responsibility and his unethical behavior left me with no other option. When I offered him to settle this case outside the courtroom, he didn't bother to respond to my emails. (I read in another review that he just ignored his clients when he doesn't want to return money for the unfinished work). She had driven by Elegant Gems several times and decided to stop in for an estimate. When she came home, she told me about this little shop on 5th with this really nice fellow that KNOWS ALOT about gems and such. He did give her an estimate of the repair and explained the issues clearly. I then decided to up the anty and surprise her with a bigger diamond, so I snuck down and met with Brent. He showed me three different options and clearly explained the different grades, handing out a very gentle re-education to loose stones. I decided on one and the ring turned out just stellar and best of all, my wife went all nuts. This was perfect on so many levels and Brent's simply the best.
